This book accomplished what any great history book should do: it educated me, entertained me, and left me wanting to learn more.

This book should be required reading for anyone interested in the Civil Rights movement.
I learned so much from this book. From the South Carolina Federal Judge (Judge Waring) to Harry Truman...all had a major part of beginning and the Civil Rights Movement.
I was really caught up in the story of the blinded service man and what he endured. The author did a great job filling in the behind the scenes drama, abuse, and segregation that black people had to go through after the Civil War.
Great book.
