Sam has a problem. Whenever he gets near electronics, they tend to explode. But his roommate, Hansen, has powers as well and offers to help out Sam and get his powers under control. Not only is Hansen harboring feelings for his friend, but the world at large also is not kind to those with powers; the Awakened. If anyone finds out, both their lives would be in grave danger.

This is a cute story but I would have liked to see more of the issue around powers and dealing with how society deals with Awakened people. It's made such a big deal of, saying it's life-threatening for 'sleepers' to find out if you have powers but in the end, this plot point was lacking. The main characters are fleshed out but the cursory world building left me wanting. Expanding on that would make a really cool novel but as it stands, this book is a quick little romance that will keep you reasonably entertained for a short while. 3.5 out of 5.

Hansen and Sam end up being “friends to lovers”. This book is funny, sweet, and the sex scenes are hot. I liked the paranormal viewpoint and how Sam tried to help. Overall, it’s a great read. I'm planing on reading the other books in this series.

It was an entertaining book. It took me a while to get myself into it but eventually I got to a point where I was hook to it. The final moments of it were really interesting.

I liked the whole paranormal thing going on about the guys but I think I couldn’t really understand the sense of it or what it meant. It that matter, I felt the plot was underdeveloped. It had a lot of potential but I don’t think it really get to be explored. What I did liked about it was the final moments, there were some events that were very exciting that I just couldn’t read fast enough. Sadly, I didn’t feel the same way for the rest of the book.

Hansen and Sam were a very nice couple. I liked their moments together, even though I did felt like there was too much sex. I would rather have more emotion between them than it actually was. Even with the issues I had I did enjoy the story and being part of a series and really interested on discovering what will come next. I do think the plot whole will be solve in the next instalments.

This was really good! There is some amazing world building with really cool powers- the meet cute is absolutely wonderful! Our two MCs are at school when clueless Sam meets in the know Hansen but it’s Sam who is the jock and the popular kid – so Hansen having the upper hand is a lovely switch. This follows them throughout their lives and into exploring things sexually when it’s decided that they are more than friends.

There’s some frustrating “misunderstandings” that should go away with just some talking – but since these are two college-age-ish guys – it makes a bit of sense that they aren’t great at communication. (It’s still frustrating tho…)

I wasn’t super comfortable with Sam and the girlfriend and her family and all that transpired there. It kind of made things less authentic and more soap opera-y and I could have done without that.

Thus 4 of 5 stars because I thoroughly enjoyed it but it did have some areas that made it a bit less than perfect.

I tend to have issues with novellas because I feel most authors are not adept at creating a beautiful, intricate and fulfilling world under 200 pages. Something always falls flat because something always tends to get neglected. You feel that you are just about to get into it, and then, BAM! It's over.
It's very rare a novella has all the right qualities as a full book, so I judge them on how much is missing and how much I was able to get into the story without those key components.
Equilibrium started out as bit on the rough side, establishing the relationship between our two boys. The story fell just a bit flat trying to gain momentum. The romance was steamy and very compelling. I definitely enjoyed the intimate moments. Those were the best parts, which is why I gave this story a four star rating. I'm hoping their is more in this universe, so that the story and universe can be expanded and more details can be spelled out. I think it would fair pretty well in the long run from having more breathing room.

So, I was in the mood for supers and this came to hand. It wasn't what I was really looking for, these're people with powers going to college, not supers, but well. Anyway, it was short and sweet. The romance went smoothly <spoiler>as the love interest, Sam, turned out to be happily (and knowingly) bi without his roomie, Hansen, realizing</spoiler> and the sex was fairly hot. The non-romance conflict was two-fold. First Sam realized he wasn't alone in having powers and Hansen's family could teach him how to use his safely. Secondly, "normal" people were to be kept in the dark about their existence (because of the "humans destroy the things they don't understand" trope) and, since Sam couldn't control himself, some people found out. And things went south for a while there. Like I said, not what I was looking for, but quite good for an afternoon read.

Sadly, this one fell a bit flat for me. After I stated reading, I realized that I had read this before when it was fist released under a different publisher, so maybe that was part of why I didn't find it as engaging. I, too, agree that there was an imbalance between plot and romance. With that being said, I like where the author is going with this world, and there appear to be more books in this series. I would be open to reading the next book to see if it gains momentum.

I am a huge fan of stories with superheroes and superpowers. Therefore, Equilibrium seemed an obvious pick for me. There were things I liked about it: the prose was good, the characters came across well, and I enjoyed the idea of needing to control newly discovered powers. However, the book fell a little flat for me because of the imbalance between sex scenes and plot. In many ways, I felt you could have taken the bedroom scenes and put any plot around them. I experienced no sense of drama or concern over the events unfolding, because I wasn't given enough detail and time to dwell on them. For me this was a three-star read. It was well written, but I simply prefer there to be greater balance between plot and romance, and this book could have accomplished that either by trimming the sex scenes a little or spending extra time on the plot elements.
