As a practitioner of witchcraft which is more heavily learned from Celtic, Slavic, Norse, and Greek (ie, white) - I didn't have much personal experience in learning the ways African-based cultures practiced their religions. Instagrammers can have a lot of information but feeds don't loan themselves well curating all that information. In 365 Days of Hoodoo, Stephanie Rose Bird pulls together many sources about these rootworking practices. There is so much information which I believe readers of different types will appreciate: you can binge it or take the daily small doses.

I admit I've glanced at other reviews and they have some good points such as recommending that the author include shopping lists or other resource lists for each section. That would be a great addition, but I've never seen it done in any other book.

I love books that offer specific things for each day of the week. It is such a beneficial tool for a read through or to space out over a year and use as a tool for spiritual work. Hoodoo is a very interesting topic; not a lot of books have been written on the subjects, specifically ones that could be used as a day-to-day workbook for contemplation and practice, rather than just reading. I like that this book is a starting point for spiritual work, versus one that may be overwhelming or too steeped in actual spiritual work or philosophy, rather than being a nice conglomeration of the two.

What many people don't seem to realize is any book like this is going to include practices passed down which will be found in other books. This is a good compilation.

'Tis the season again. That time of year where I scramble to find unique and exciting gifts for the people I love. Many times that includes books about obscure subjects, and since my daughter loves all things esoteric I knew that this would potentially make a great Christmas gift for her.

3.5 Stars

This book is divided into three sections (including an extensive introduction) with each section being broken down into several chapters. Each of the sections begins with an introduction, followed by spells, rites, altars, ceremonies, recipes, and tricks. At the end of each section, there is a blank space for you to write down any personal thoughts you may have.

-- Section I (Hoodoo's Fixin's).
-- Section II (Tricks of the Hoodoo's Trade: Spells, Rites & More).
-- Section III (Disturb Me Not: Shielding, Noticing & Undoing Negativity).

This book is described as being aimed at both newbies and experienced practitioners alike. It begins with an overview of Hoodoo including its history and origin. Sprinkled throughout are special pages called HOODOO'S GARDEN AND CURIOS OF NOTE. which include step-by-step directions to growing and harvesting special herbs to use in your practice.

Unfortunately, my ARC copy didn't include any graphics or fun typography. This may be due to the file format that was available to me, but I was certainly disappointed by that as the visual aspect of these type of books is often one of the main selling points. That aside, the book was still a fascinating read and would certainly make a great gift.

I enjoyed it! 365 Days of Hoodoo is a great tool for beginners of Hoodoo to get our feet wet and learn about this spiritual path. This book came right on time for me, as I am new to this. I have taken what I've learned in this book, along with what my spirit tells me to do, to create my own conjuring work. Although this book is designed for readers to use every day, readers can do more than one task a day or skip ahead. I intend to start rereading January 1 just because.

I can’t speak highly enough of this book. It offers a complete introduction to Hoodoo practices geared towards any interested reader, regardless of their religious denomination.
I knew virtually nothing about Hoodoo when I began. There's a lesson for each day of the year talking the reader through obtaining the basic supplies, how to go about “tricks” and general Hoodoo philosophy and advice.

I am a plant enthusiast and was delighted by the sections interspersed throughout covering Hoodoo plants that grow well in the garden and how they can be used.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to pick up a hard copy for my own personal use.
I read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I'm currently a bit obsessed with Hoodoo so I was delighted to see this book. I particularly loved the historical aspect depicted in the book. Not all ingredients are available in Australia but most of what is in the book can be accomplished. I shared this across my social media platforms and received a good response. It appears that Hoodoo is of great interest at the moment.

A progressive (as in, it builds upon previous steps) work on hoodoo. It should prove to be an interesting starting point for anyone looking to explore this area of magical work.

I didn't care for the layout of this book. It was quite hard to read due to the layout itself. There is some good information contained within but please rethink the layout.

I love this book. It's full of love spells, break up rituals, justice, work place spells. So much packed into this one book. 365 days of Hoodoo and it's for the beginner and the more advanced practitioner. I just couldn't believe how great this book is. There are blessings, how to use your herb garden for more than cooking. The one I like most is making mojo bags. There so many kinds. This book is well written and researched. I have a friend that will get this for as I know she will love it as I did. I received this book from Net Galley and Llewellyn Publishing for a honest review and no compensation otherwise. Thank you!!!
