I originally downloaded a free preview of this novel issued by Hatchette from Netgalley. After enjoying the four chapter taster, I bought and read The Paris Seamstress fully.

Told from a duel point of view, the narrative switches between the two female protagonists; Estella Bissette's life as a seamstress, living in nineteen-forty Paris before she's forced to flee to America to begin a new life. Fabienne Bissette, Estella's granddaughter brings the story to the present time as she delves into her family's past after her father, Xander died.

Filled with heartbreaking intrigue, the shocking discoveries made by Fabienne certainly add darkness to the riveting narrative. Fear not, plenty of high points are included too. With equally fascinating characters who pull everything together in this well-researched page-turner.

'That a piece of clothing could do so much. That it had power beyond the fabric and the thread and the pattern.'
It's always a delight to learn something new when reading a novel and I particularly enjoyed learning the fascinating details and techniques used by seamstresses working on couture designs. The insightful inclusion by the author is a fascinating embellishment for this curious reader. It's always a treat to finish a book knowing more than I did before I began.

My favourite reads for 2018 have mostly been those with a historical theme and The Paris Seamstress is definitely one which leaves a lasting impression.

I loved Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale, and I have Martha Hall Kelly's The Lilac Girls on my TBR, and Lester's The Paris Seamstress definitely belongs on the same shelf of women's stories in WWII shelf. I can't wait to read the full book soon!

Sign me up! The Paris Seamstress is so well-written and captivating! I was extremely drawn in to Estella's story. While I only got to read a small piece of the journey, I am sure that this book is an emotional and heart-breaking roller coaster of ride. I can already say that the author spares no character or historical details, and the story is rich and full of vivid drama. I have added this to my TBR and can't wait to read the whole thing one day.

Ms. Lester has written a gem of a story set in a tumultuous time in history. Fortune smiles on her by way of friends and opportunities.

From teasing Marie in the atelier, to singing in the jazz club in her newly-made gold dress, Estella quickly drew me in to her story. The tension mounted when she was asked by as dying man man to pass on information to the nightjar. Oh my, the story flew off the page as I read these four chapters in one sitting. As the German army marched into France, her mother packed her off to America, where dreams of being a rising star in the fashion industry awaited.
With her dear Maman and beloved Paris always in her thoughts she prepares to reach for the stars.
And here's where I have to read the rest of the book.
Thanks to NetGalley for this tempting treat. Definitely a story to be pursued.

The Paris Seamstress entails the escape of Estella, a seamstress, from war torn Paris. Estella has worked at an atelier (workshop) yet longs to design her own fashions. She unwittingly becomes involved in dangerous work as part of the French Resistance, and leaves Paris on a ship bound for America. Estella continues to pursue work in fashion and design upon her arrival in New York, after a narrow escape from a German U-boat when she is onboard the ship bound for America.

I only wish this preview contained more than the first four chapters. The story captured my interest from the start, with clearly detailed characterizations and an intriguing plot. The descriptions of Paris as it fell to the Germans were exciting and kept me on the edge of my seat. The author included descriptions of New York which were almost lyrical, with skillful use of language and detail. I definitely recommend this book for those interested in historical fiction and also fashion.

I received this four chapter preview from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed in this review are solely mine.

I quickly finished the sneak preview of Chapters 1-4 of The Paris Seamstress by Natasha Lester, thanks to the opportunity provided by NetGalley. I was quickly immersed in the life of Estella Bissette, a young woman who flees from Paris, before the Germans over ran the city, on a ship to America. at the urging of her mother. She disembarks from the ship with little money, her sewing machine, and the sewing talents she learned at the atelier her mother worked at in Paris. Estella gives a glimpse into her dream of owning her own design business and by the end of the four chapters, she has met and engaged two friends to help her accomplish her dream. I found myself wanting to find out what happens to Estella, and her mother, and look forward to reading the whole story.

I was only given for chapters to sample, perhaps because the book was already published when I requested it, however I am intrigued and enchanted enough to buy it and finish it. Excellent storyline and I care about the characters. I don’t usually gravitate towards historical novels, but this book might just change my attitude!

Thank you NetGalley, the author and publisher, allowed me to read the first four chapters of this amazing book exchange for my honest review.

This was a 4 chapter review of The Paris Seamstress by Natasha Lester. I have wanted to read this book since I first read the synopsis. I love a dual time line historical fiction. We have the story of the grandmother set in 1940 and granddaughter set in 2015. I was immediately drawn into this story by the characters and really want to read the rest of this book.

Well this teaser of a preview left me wanting to track down a copy of the book and finish it right away.
I am already well invested into the story of Estella a young woman working in a Paris atelier with her mother. When Hitler advances into France things change very quickly for Estella. She is forced to leave her mother, homeland and everything she has ever known to somehow start a new life on her own in America.
The first 4 chapters have me entranced so I can only imagine what the remainder of the book holds.

Thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for the preview!

I received a free preview of this book from Netgalley. Thank you, Netgalley! I read the first four chapters, which was my preview. This is a very good book and I wish I could have read the whole book. It begins as Hitler moved into Paris, taking over half of France. The main character, Estella, is sent to America aboard the last ship out of France....no spoilers as to why she gets this special privilege!☺ She makes it safely to America, where her dream job is to design her own dresses.
I love any book about sewing, so this will be a huge hit with me. I also love reading about this time in History. My parents and grandparents lived during this time period, yet they never talked about it. I wish I had asked more questions while they were still alive! It was a sad time for most people. My grandfather had to join the Army to keep from starving. He lied about his age so they would let him join.
This book is going to be a huge success. I look forward to reading the remainder of it.
All opinions are my own.

Although I found it a bit hard to review a book based on the first few chapters, I can say right off that the characters are very likeable and relateable and that the writing so far is beautiful! I already felt emotional a few times. I definitely plan on reading the rest when it comes out!
