I have always been a fan of Sarah Pekkanen. When she teams up with Greer Hendricks, watch out! I enjoyed the twists and turns in this book. The story flowed well and the perspective changes each chapter added o the drama.

I was thrilled to receive an egalley of An Anonymous Girl. I read Hendricks and Pekkanen’s previous novel, The Wife Between Us, prior to its release last year, and it became one of my favorite domestic suspense novels. An Anonymous Girl is a good follow up, though not quite as good as it’s precursor, largely because there’s not much suspense here. Thanks to alternating perspectives, we generally know what’s going on as it happens. The twists were fairly quiet, the reveals built up gradually. Still a totally enjoyable reading experience, but not quite what I was hoping for given the thrills of The Wife Between Us.

The premise of this book is so intriguing...
I was absolutely blown away by The Wife Between Us. It made it to my Top Ten of 2018 reads, and it was my first read of 2018. I loved it. Naturally, I had the same expectations for An Anonymous Girl.
It took me a while to get into it, I'm not sure why. Maybe just the holidays and everything going on all at once. I found it difficult to sit down and read this extremely hyped book. Once I got started though, it was all downhill, or uphill, from there.
Hendricks and Pekkanen wrote a twisted tale, one where you question everything down to the smallest detail. One thing I loved about this book was the alternating perspectives, but even more so how the authors didn't tell you who was who until after you read the first paragraph of the new chapter. It had me hooked so bad! It was unique to see that, and it gave the book an even more compelling look.
There is one thing that made the book fall a little flat for me: the absence of the 'wtf' moment. The Wife Between Us had two that stuck out to me, even 365 days later. In An Anonymous Girl, I saw one of the twists coming, but even then, there was no 'what the fuck did I just read' reaction. The story is extremely well written and captivating to the point of losing track of what time it is.
I'd definitely recommend this book to those who need a little help figuring out the truth. Or if you just want a little manipulation with your therapy sessions.

An Anonymous Girl was sufficiently creepy and kept me up late reading to see what would happen next. This book will keep you wondering and will have you trusting no one. So creepy!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Having not read Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen's previous work I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but holy wow was this book intriguing! I've read a few books where there was an unreliable narrator but to have a dual narrative told from two characters who weren't completely likable and that left the reader unsure of who to trust. I found this book to be really engaging and will be recommending this book to anyone who is looking for a great psychological read.

Jessica Farris is getting by in New York City, an interesting young woman with few committed relationships. When a friend blows off an opportunity to participate in a psychological study on ethics and morality, she sneaks in and takes her place. Jessica thinks she can make some fast money and then move on. Dr. Lydia Shields is the psychologist running the study, and after two sessions, Jessica is invited to continue to another phase. But things get more and more intense, and the sessions which had been conducted at NYU move to Shields' office and other venues. She knows she is being manipulated, but as smart as she is, cannot change the narrative. An interesting premise and the writing is very good - once you get used to it. Each chapter is told from either Jessica’s or Dr. Shields’ viewpoint, but you are often unsure which for a couple of pages into the chapter. I struggled with my rating on this book as I didn’t necessarily like the format. But the story is compelling. So a strong 3 star rating. Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to review the ARC of this book.

Wow, this book had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I literally had nightmares trying to figure out the ending of this book. Although, I wasn't really fond of the ending. It was a bit predictable. I will surely be picking up any books by these authors in the future. Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

An awesome, gripping psychological thriller that I could not put down. With fantastic writing and a gripping plot, this writing duo seams to have found what it takes to publish hit after hit..and I can't wait to see what is coming next! A who-done-it that keeps you guessing right up to the ending..and what an ending! I fully recommend this book!

This writer duo gave us the bestseller book THE WIFE BETWEEN US. Now they return with AN ANONYMOUS GIRL which, in my opinion, surpasses THE WIFE BETWEEN US. I am sure there will be a lot excitement for this psychological suspense novel, and it will be deserving of it all.
Jessica Farris, age 28, lies her way into a psychology study on ethics and morality (a bit ironic). The study offers generous compensation, and Jessica really needs the money. She finds that the questions asked are invasive and uncomfortable, but anonymity is guaranteed so what does she have to lose. She answers the questions openly and reveals a secret she has kept for many years. Because of her openness she is invited to participate in an extension of the study. More will be asked of her and the compensation will be significantly more.
The study is conducted by the mysterious Dr. Lydia Shields who is also a master of manipulation, pulling Jessica into a web of lies and jealousy. Over time Jessica begins to question the true purpose of the study and what will be done with the intensely personal information she has shared.
Thought-provoking, complex, dark, suspenseful…love, betrayal, obsession. Who can Jessica trust? The story pulled me in from the very beginning with the questions Jessica was asked. “Could you tell a lie without feeling guilt?” “Describe a time in your life when you cheated.” “Have you ever deeply hurt someone you care about? “Do victims have the right to take retribution into their own hands?” The chapters alternate between the perspectives of Jessica and Dr. Shields. This is NOT one of those books that waits until the end to reveal a major twist that leaves the reader going “WHAT??” This one has twists that worm their way in keeping the reader flipping pages and delivering an ending that TOTALLY works.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for the advance copy for my honest review.

The two authors have outdone themselves in researching and creating an intricate plot involving the psychology of ethics and morals. While this didn't have gasp-worthy twists, the slow-burn tension ratcheted upwards and kept me in its grip the entire time; in fact, it was also too tense at times and I wanted to skip ahead to make sure who I wanted to get out of it alive, did (yes, I took a quick peek). The dual narratives from the two unreliable narrators were well done even though the therapist's POV was in the second person which can sometimes be a little annoying.
This solid psychological thriller (heavy on the psychological) reminded me a bit of Hank's Trust Me and A. J. Finn's The Woman in the Window.
Thanks to the publisher for the advance reading copy.

I haven’t been so consumed by a book in a long time until this one! Each page left me longing for the next dying to know what was going to happen. Truly a page turner & so wonderfully written. Thank you net galley for giving me the opportunity to read this book! I will definitely be recommending this! I need to find something that even compares next

This was by far the best thriller I read in 2018. This was completely unbelievable, yet I couldn't stop reading. Moral choices and the power that psychologists and psychiatrists wield make for a twisted, mind blowing read.

Jess enters into a psychological study on morals and ethics in a rather unethical way. She's desperate for some extra cash, so when a client nonchalantly mentions the paid study and how she probably won't be attending, Jess seizes the opportunity to take her spot instead by pretending to be her client. Jess's interest is piqued by the manner in which the study is conducted and the interesting questions that are asked of her. The questions are asked via computer, so Jess doesn't actually see the mysterious Dr. Shields, who is the conducter of the study. When Jess is asked to return to answer even more questions, she has no idea what she's getting herself into.
After reading The Wife Between Us, I couldn't wait to get my hands on An Anonymous Girl. It certainly didn't disappoint! I kept wondering how far the events in the book would go and it kept me guessing as to what would happen next.

Omg! I don’t even know what to say about this twisty and thrilling read! The concept intrigued me, but the actual plot was way better than I imagined! There were so many times that I couldn’t believe the amount of trust Jessica put into Dr. Shields. However much I enjoyed this one, The Wife Between Us was still my favorite read by these authors. I still highly recommend this one!

This book started off strong for me then slowly crept into Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn territory which I immensely disliked. I liked this book better than Gone Girl and there were plot twists that I didn't fully anticipate. Its very noir - where the heroine is very naive in the beginning and then slowly circumstances change her. I would have liked a different ending but at least I didn't throw this book across the room like I did with Gone Girl.
This book is written from two different points of view. That of Dr. Shields and that of Jess. Not quite alternating chapters but you get the idea of who is speaking as soon as you read the first few sentences. Dr. Shields is pretentious and ominous.
I will admit that this is a well crafted book and if you like Gone Girl you will definitely love this book, it just wasn't my favorite.

An Anonymous Girl is a page turning, stay up all night, twisted cat and mouse tale of obsession. Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen had me guessing til the end!

I almost gave up on this book about 30 pages in. It was a ridiculous premise, IMO. I read the reviews and decided to keep going. I ended up liking it more than I thought I would, but it was unbelievable and weird. Note to self: if a stranger is asking personally intimate questions under the guise of a paid psychological survey, it's probably not what it seems lol.

BLOWN AWAY ONCE AGAIN! These authors have defined the phrase "page turner". Not only was I kept on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it but I kept trying to figure out what would happen next and was wrong each time. That kept me wanting more. The twists and turns kept me guessing and was definitely an unputdownable book. I would definitely suggest this book to be read in any book club meeting since there are lots of elements to discuss and I'm sure lots of opinions as well.
I'm looking forward to the next book by this creative duo.

Jessica Farris is a twenty-eight year old makeup artist. At her last appointment of the day (two valley-girl college girls), Jessica stumbles upon an opportunity to make some extra money. She overhears one of the girls talking about a study on morality and ethics. Also overhearing that her client will not be attending after a long night out, she feigns being one of the college girls. With her disabled sister on her mind, she welcomes the opportunity.
However, things go bad quickly when more is slowly asked of her. But with that comes more money to support her sister and family.
Unfortunately, I have yet to read The Wife Between Us. So, I had no idea what to expect coming into this novel, but of course, I was pleasantly surprised. My only complaint was that there was so much deceit (which always makes for a good story). Not one character could be trusted, so you never knew what to expect yet, or what was the “true” story at any given time.
Could you tell a lie without feeling guilt?
An Anonymous Girl is thought-provoking, suspenseful, and gripping. This novel will challenge your morality and ethics!

Wow, couldn’t put this book down. From page one until finishing the epilogue was hooked on this book. Suspenseful and well written. Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are a winning combination. Well developed characters and a fast moving plot. Would highly recommend this book!
