I was absolutely thrilled when I saw this book on Netgalley because I loved the authors' first book, The Wife Between Us. Unfortunately I think I came in to reading this book with extremely high expectations.
This book follows Jessica who enters a study about morality. She is hoping to earn some money from this study. As the study continues and it takes up more of her life she realizes she might be in way over her head.
I can't really say that I particularly liked or cared about any of the main characters. Jessica just seemed so weak to get led into what she did and seemed to blindly follow whatever she was told. Dr. Shields was okay in the beginning but really became annoying with her over the top behavior. Thomas was somewhat of a bumbling idiot.
This was pretty slow for me for the first half. The second half did pick up and my interest did grow but it still didn't leave me amazed at all at the end. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the galley.

I really enjoyed "The Wife Between Us" by Hendricks and Pekkanen last year- "An Anonymous Girl" does not disappoint! Even with the hectic life as a mom of 2 kids and with multiple part time jobs, I still managed to finish this book in less than 2 days.
From the very first page, the story is entertaining and gripping. Lately, I feel like the psychological- mystery- thriller genre can get to be a bit ridiculous, which sometimes makes reading stories like this difficult. Yet, the characters are believable and the progress of the story takes quite a few turns that really move the plot forward and add excitement without being incredulous. I found the main character, Jess, to be refreshing- her choices are what push the story forward- at times I really felt like my own motivations in life are quite similar to hers. Would I have made the choices she made early on in the book? Probably--- and that's what makes it so great.
Lastly, minor details are well-thought out. I'm sure if I re-read this, there would be points I didn't pick up on the first time- makes for good storytelling and something I could imagine picking up to read again someday. Overall, I'm so happy with this book and will be keeping these authors on my 'must-read' list!
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. This book has really made my day/week/month!

This psychological thriller never really built up the pace and pressure for me. The set up and premise, while massively implausible entregued me and the separate voices worked. However, overall it just didn’t quite deliver.

What would you do for love? Would you tell a lie to protect someone else? And if you love someone would you do anything to maintain that relationship?
An Anonymous Girl was an unexpected delight. This book introduces us to Jess and the flow of the novel starts immediately. Jess's life seems simple on the surface but as you learn more about her you realize peoples lives are not always what they seem. While at times Jess could be viewed as a victim she is also a very strong resilient character.
Dr. Shields is such a narcissist that she does not realize that her very actions are unethical. How ironic considering the fact that her research is centered around ethics and morality. This woman is both smart and beautiful which in this case makes for a very dangerous combination.
These characters are so real in the fact that like real people they are flawed. Sometimes no matter how well you think you know someone you have to remember there are parts of their lives you do not see. Assumptions can be dangerous.

Jessica, a makeup artist, overhears her clients talking about not attending a psychology study being conducted, which the client had signed up for. In need of money, Jessica decides to go the next day and partake in the study thinking all she will need to do is answer some questions and be done. As the questions start becoming more invasive, it feels like the person in charge, Dr. Shields, knows when Jess is lying; pushing her to reveal truths she wouldn’t normally admit. As the study continues, Jess begins to feel that Dr. Shields is being manipulative and might have an ulterior motive causing Jessica to become paranoid. “Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.”
I received an advanced copy from Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press in exchange for an honest review.

Well, that was fun! What a twisty, dark, satisfying read. The beginning of the novel makes you ask yourself, what would you do for money? How desperate would you need to be to continue doing what makes you uncomfortable for the chance at more money? Jess needs the extra income, and after all, what harm could come of it? It's an experiment, anonymous, no one will ever know.
The deeper Jess gets, the harder it is to get away. I loved the philosophical questions, the depths people will go to and how they justify what they do. This book will suck you in and make you stay up way too late reading. Trust me, I know! A definite must read, and I am desperately sad that I finished it so quickly. Now it's time to re-read, so I can catch all the hints and clues that I missed the first time around!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, for this free eARC, in exchange for my honest review.
After hearing that this book was coming out, I was so excited. I loved their previous book, The Wife Between Us. At first, this book went really slow for me. But once I got halfway through it, I could not put it down! There were so many things I did not see coming, and it kept you guessing until the very end. I stayed up way too late to finish this book, but it was well worth it!

Only real complaint I have is that sometimes it was difficult to differentiate when thing switched from Jess to Dr shields. Other than that it was a great story, good plot line, story moved along at a good pace and sucked you in, this is my second book by these authors (read the wife between us) and I've loved both stories. Will read the next book as well

Until the very last page, I never saw the twists coming. I lost a night of sleep because I didn't want to put this book down. Every chapter, ever scene, ever twist - I thought I knew what was going to happen, but I was wrong every single time.
From the pacing to the tension to the suspense, these two amazing authors nailed it!

Thank you NetGalley, Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen and Katie from St. Martin’s Press for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review!
Jessica Farris signs up for a study and goes in assuming that she’ll just have to answer some questions and collect her money, but the sessions keep getting more intense and invasive. Soon she meets the famous Dr. Shields and has to take part in outings where she is told what to wear and how to act. Jess begins to feel like Dr. Shields is running her life and knows what she is thinking. Jess starts to get paranoid and is unsure whom to trust and whether what happens to her is real or part of the experiment. Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can turn deadly.
I really enjoyed the way this novel started out learning about Jess and her life and how she is struggling to pay the bills and help her family take care of her sister with her brain injury. I love the chapters going back and forth between Jess and Dr. Shields and what they were both thinking and how different each one of them viewed what was happening. It’s amazing how people come to trust and rely on people who are in this sort of position. I loved that you have no idea what is going on first and who you can trust. With each page, this book becomes darker and scarier for our main character!
Two different people are trying to use Jess for their own means, but she has no idea which one she can trust, and I enjoyed reading her escapades in trying to figure it out! I really enjoyed Jess and could really relate to her and how she just wants someone to understand what she has gone through in her life. I loved both the ending and the last few chapters before hand, they were full of suspense and you couldn’t even guess what was going to happen next! This novel was very gripping and a page-turner! I was riveted right from the first chapter on and didn’t want to put it down until I knew what was going on!
Pick it up on January 8th and cancel all your plans!

After reading this writing teams previous novel "The Wife Between Us" I was very excited to read this new book. I was not disappointed. It's a very nicely paced thriller, with some twists and turns. You can guess as to what will happen but you won't actually have the resolution until the very end of the book.
The book is told from the point of view of the two main characters. First: Jessica Farris is a make-up artist in NYC. She hears about an ethics and morality study being done at the university and since she is always stressing about money - paying her rent, helping her family - she thinks this is the answer to all her problems. Second: Dr. Shields, a professor who is doing the ethics and morality study or is she?
Jess sneaks into the study and becomes Subject 52. She starts to think that something is not quite right with the study when Dr Shields offers her lots of money for private therapy sessions. Once in the study she finds herself in way over her head, in something that might have nothing to do with a study on ethics and morality. While the book is not a major thriller there are hints of betrayal, obsessive behaviour, deception, jealousy and manipulation of events.
It's a quiet book that leaves you thinking about it after you have finished it and put it down.

I did not want to put this book down! What a ride I went on with this book!!! Jessica sneaks into a psychological study in order to earn extra money to supplement her income as a make-up artist. Things get really weird with a lot of strange things subsequently taking place. This is the second book that I have read by these two authors and I can't for their next book. I highly recommend this fantastic book.

A solid 4 stars plus for An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks!
Immediately capturing my attention and holding it throughout, this is a taut and suspenseful psychological thriller. The characters are interesting and the storyline compelling.
Recommended!

An Anonymous Girl is another success by Greer Hendricks Sarah Pekkanen. This psychological mind-trip will take you on ride as Jessica lies her way into a psychology study on ethics and morality.
Jessica is a beautician who does peoples make up at their homes. One evening she is doing the make-up for two college students who will be going out that night. One of them mentions that she has agreed to participate in a psychology study at NYU at 8am that pays $500. She didn’t know why she agreed to participate because she is sure she’ll be hungover. When this young woman leaves the room, Jessica looks at the woman’s phone to get the details. She needs the $500 for her the care of her disabled sister. The next morning, she appears for the study stating that the other young woman wasn’t able to make it, so she is taking her place. Little does she know, the other young woman, already called to say she couldn’t make. Jessica also does not know that this psychology study is one on ethics and morality. As subject 52, Jessica has no idea how her life is about to change…

Thank you very much St. Martin’s Press and Net Galley for the early release of An Anonymous Girl. AMAZING, I DID NOT WANT THIS BOOK TO END!!! I I was looking so forward to reading this book after reading The Wife Between Us, the authors did not Disappoint. What a dynamic team. Please publish another book ASAP.

Thank you very much St. Martin’s Press and Net Galley for the early release of An Anonymous Girl. Honestly, it took me about a quarter of the way of the book to get into, I almost stopped reading it, I am so happy that I didn’t stop. AMAZING!! You think you have it figured it out, but the manipulation is unreal! The characters were sooooo real, you felt like you were in the story with them. I did Not want it to end. Thank you to this dynamic duo for their writing.

An Anonymous Girl was good butI found myself skimming through some parts that were a little boring. The story idea was interesting and fairly unique which kept me reading. The characters were good, which also kept me reading. I'm glad I stuck with it although the ending felt a bit abrupt. #NetGalley #AnAnonymousGirl

This was a good thriller about a young woman, Jessica who shows up to a psychology survey. What happens next leaves her on an emotional roller coaster. Dr. Shields begins to request more of Jessica's time in manipulative experiments. Although this book was fun to read, I felt it went on and on. I found myself wishing that the book wasn't so long. It started to get too repetitive for me. The ending was pretty farfetched too. But fun to read. I received a complimentary ebook from Netgalley.com

Very good book! It's been awhile since I had a book to read that I felt it hard to put down. This is one of those books you pick up and you are absorbed into the story immediately. Everything about it I liked, the characters, the setting, the pace, the storyline were all excellent. I had read these author's book The Wife Between Us and enjoyed it, but this one is far better and I will definitely be seeking out more titles from them.

Authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekannen already had a blockbuster to their names with the bestselling The Wife Between Us. They're sure to have another one with the upcoming An Anonymous Girl.
Let's face it -- psychological thrillers (especially those that build on lies) are a dime a dozen nowadays, and you can pretty much be guaranteed a hit by just putting the words "girl" or "woman" in the title. But Hendricks and Pekannen manage to create a world that's entirely different in An Anonymous Girl, and the results are deeply unsettling (in a good way).
Jessica Farris signs up for a psychological study with the mysterious Dr. Shields. The questions start off innocently enough, and Jessica can't believe she's being paid so much just for her answers. But when the questions become more intrusive and she is asked to do things she is uncomfortable with, Jessica wants out. But will Dr. Shields let her go?
I have to be honest -- as I was writing that last paragraph, An Anonymous Girl didn't sound all that scary. But it is. I think what's most effective is that Jessica and Dr. Shields alternate narration. Dr. Shields narrates in second person and passive voice, which creates a sense of even more invasion into Jessica's life. Hendricks and Pekannen have finally created something different in the psychological suspense category; I highly recommend it!
