Pekkanen and Hendricks are amazing at spinning a psychological thriller. I have to say this books plot is almost terrifying and extremely realistic. I was completely absorbed in the story and characters. I look to their future books and will highly recommend their books for fans of thriller fiction.

When her decision to participate in a paid psychological study goes awry, Jess finds herself wondering exactly what she has gotten herself into and who she is dealing with.

I could not wait to get into this book and I am so glad I decided to read it. This was one of the best psychological thrillers I have read in a long time. The writing pulled me in from the first page. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I could not put it down. This is the kind of book to just curl up with on a crappy day and lose yourself in. Highly recommend!

An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen was provided to me by NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an honest review. Thanks to both of them.

Jess thought she was signing up for a simple study on ethics and morality, but what it turned into was anything but. Sh wasn't even supposed to be in the study, she needed money and snuck in on it after hearing about it at a job she was doing. That didn't stop her, but she was not prepared for what happened.

Don't miss this psychological thriller, An incredible story by and incredible pair of writers!

Unlike many books that drag the suspense out to the point of tedium in pursuit of Gone Girl fame, this An Anonymous girl is refreshingly different. It reveals it's secrets like breadcrumbs, so that with each twist you think you know what is where the story is headed. But how can you know what's going on when none of the main characters is fully in charge of the circumstances?

Jess inadvertently hears about a psychological study on ethics and morality. She wasn't supposed to be in the study, but winds up being of special interest to the therapist conducting the questionnaire, a very sophisticated and beautiful Dr. Lydia Shields. As Jess is tested via some questionable "in the field" experiments, we see her struggle with ongoing doubts about continuing in the study, Dr. Shield's third person account of her perceptions about Jess start to set off warning bells with the reader as we see the depth of her manipulation.

Enter Thomas, Lydia's husband, and the plot, as they say, thickens. (No spoilers here!)

An Anonymous Girl was a wonderful example of how a book needs no scary monsters, screams in the night or dark strangers to be one of the most thrilling books you'll read this year!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book revolves around Jess, who overhears a make-up client talk about a "study" that will pay $500 to be a subject. The client doesn't go, but Jess goes in her place. Unbeknownst to Jess, the woman in charge of the study, is using subjects in a way that they are not expecting.

I don't want to say much more, because it would give away some of the twists and turns that kept me up all night reading! I enjoyed this book and would recommend to those that love books like Gone Girl and Girl on a Train.

This novel had a lot going for it – good premise, good timing, good story line and strong sinister evil witch! It definitely kept me turning pages! Even though the ending wrapped everything up nicely, it was a let down.

This plotting delved into both trendy areas in chick-lit of “lies” and “secrets.” Thankfully, our heroine was a bit more savvy than most in today’s pop literature, but really not any more likable. In fact the only likable person in the whole book was Noah and, thankfully, he had the smarts to make his exit!

Dysfunction – toxic relationships – one night stands are the themes here. Oh and of course, our characters have incredible beauty along with unlimited wealth, the hallmarks of chick-lit.

For me, 3 stars is generous, but I can certainly understand this novel’s appeal to others.

People are going to eat this book up. It’s going to fly off shelves. It’s original, suspenseful, interesting and I blazed through it. The book is filled with small, subtle twists that kept my jaw dropping. I recommend going in blind - enjoy!

There is an enormous glut of psychological thrillers whose plots are becoming tropes: "gone girls", "girls with bad memories" "unreliable narrators"...and I'm absolutely thrilled to say that this book is NOT ONE OF THEM. This book is a fascinating exploration of the degree of flexibility in everyone's morality and the way these flexions create a ripple effect on vulnerable and dominant personalities alike. This is one of those books you'll be staying up all night to finish.

If you've been tiring of the thriller genre due to the repetitive and stereotypical plots, this novel will re-engage and make you appreciate the genre again.

Oh wow! It's a rare book where I truly can't guess how it ends and who we can/can't trust. This was such a story. It kept me on the edge of my seat from page one. Absolutely fantastic story. Loved everything about it and highly recommend it. Thank you so much to the authors, publisher and netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review. This one is a winner hands down!

From the authors of The Wife Between Us, comes An Anonymous Girl. Equally amazing, this book introduces readers to Jess, a struggling makeup artist. Jess is plagued with guilt after a childhood accident leaves her sister forever changed. With an opportunity to make money, Jess enters the twisted world of what should be a trusted professional, Dr. Shields.

With the same suspense and plot-twisting techniques of The Wife Between Us, Hendricks and Pekkanen kept me up all night, wondering what was going to happen next. The lack of predictability and complex characters and motives make this a must read!

Thank you NetGalley for an arc of this amazing book!

I loved how this was told with the alternating chapters. Chilling and kept me on my toes. I liked it better than The Wife Between Us. Free e-copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Just finished reading this one, I was excited to read this as I loved the wife between us - this book didn't grip me as much as their previous book, I expected twists that werent there and it felt in places like it was being dragged out a little. I did enjoy it though and it is worth a read

Where to begin...The morality test? The lies? The secrets? The truth? Is the good person really the bad person or the bad person really the good person? Is anyone good?

If that doesn't make you want to read this book, then you are missing out.

Why 4 starts and not 5? That's easy, I need more books by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen

The writing was fantastic, more twists and turns then a mountain side drive in Italy.. I loved it. The ending was not ideal in my opinion, but the first 90 percent was so amazing I could not in good conscience rate this book lower then 5 stars. The main characters are not very likeable, for sure, but do they have your empathy? In my case, they did. The best thing about this book is the authors descriptions of the characters--they are so spot on.. I feel like I could easily pick Jess or Dr. Shields out of a crowd (and then run in the opposite direction as soon as I caught their eye). At times, I felt there was too much going on, some wrenches thrown into my original thoughts about what the heck was actually happening but not enough to deter me from really enjoying this book. I highly recommend to anyone who loved Greer Hendricks first book, The Wife Between Us.

Thank you so much to NetGalley for the chance to read and review this original suspense-filled thriller. (less)

I would like to thank netgalley and St. Martin’s press for my ARC of the novel An Anonymous Girl. While having enjoyed the authors first novel, The Wife Between Us I had a hard time believing the plot. Unfortunately, this one was not for me, but I do look forward to other works by this duo.

I love a good mystery/thriller/suspense, whether it be a movie, a book or a show, I enjoy them.

Sadly I was left disappointed by this one. To start it took so long to ignite that I found myself looking for other things to do. I would say the last 25-30% of the book is when I finally felt like it was going somewhere. The build it just so slow.

The plot for the story was intriguing, late twenty’s single girl has secrets and needs cash, test study where said girl can make money by sharing her secrets. It sounds interesting but I honestly was questioning the MC from the start. BUT in today’s day and age people share their inner most secrets with strangers online and so I tried to forget that just because I would NEVER to that doesn’t mean a thing.

The MC, Jessica and Dr. Shields are both seeking something, however neither one of them convinced me to care. I hate saying that, but I just wasn’t drawn into their story. To me it was an almost 30 year old women who had pushed almost everyone in her life away and a doctor who was so fake and pretentious from the start that I never understood Jessica’s “loyalty”.

The story is narrated by Jessica and Dr Shields, however until you read the chapter you aren’t sure who’s talking and although it could be figured out by a sentence or two, it seemed unnecessary to make us figure it out. I found the chapters narrated by Dr Shields to be repetitive and dull. There was a lot of rambling on.

Let’s not for get about Thomas, the man between them. Did anyone else find him confusing? Maybe it was more that I just felt like we didn’t know much about him or Dr. Shields, their story for the most part wasn’t as detailed as Jessica’s. We do learn more about Dr. Shields near the end but to be honest it wasn’t necessary.

In the end there just were not enough twists and turns and the ones that were there I found predictable or unremarkable. I also wasn't thrilled with the ending. It seemed anticlimactic to me.

I know I am in the minority, but this one fell flat for me. That said, plenty of people loved it so what do I know? I still have their 1st book on my TBR list so I'm not giving up on them.

An Anonymous Girl keeps you guessing. No one is who they seem when you first meet them. Who is telling the truth? Who can you believe? Who can you trust? Your loyalties switch back and forth as the story progresses. The authors keep you on your toes. It all starts with a professor conducting an ethics and morality study. Jess learns about it and lies to get into the study for the "easy" money. She is selected to move on to the next phase of the study. Despite lying to get into the study, she is likeable, hard working, devoted to her family and friends. The doctor/professor conducting the study is kind and soothing and draws people in. But let the games begin. How far will someone go for someone they trust? for money? for their family? for someone they love? Who is the villain? Who is playing who? This is a page turner. Told from both Jess and the doctor's point of view, the narrative switches back and forth. At first this was a little confusing and it was hard to tell who was speaking/thinking. Once you got accustomed to the style, it was much easier to follow. You may figure out who the most dangerous person is before the end of the book but the authors still have a surprise ending that you will not have seen coming. I recommend this book if you like twists and turns and a book that is hard to put down. Yes, I admit, I was up reading this until 4am. It is that good. I will definitely be reading more by these authors.

Note: I received an advanced copy of this book for my honest review above.

I really enjoyed their previous novel “The Wife Between Us” and couldn’t wait to read their current collaboration. I was not disappointed. Although not as intense as the previous one; less twists and more of a slow burn but the tension does build.

Jess is a struggling makeup artist who signs up for a morality study in hopes of making a quick $500. She becomes Subject 52 for Dr. Shields. But then it becomes more with promises of more money. Jess is fascinated by Dr. Shields as the psychiatrist is quite charming. Jess feels there is something not quite right with the study and starts to question it and herself. Told in both Jess’s and Dr. Shield’s point a view makes it even more captivating and not confusing at all. I liked it very much. Looking forward to their next one.
