This was a chilling thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat!

There were two narratives in this story: Jessica and Dr. Sheilds. Jessica’s narrative was from her first person perspective, but Dr. Sheilds’s perspective was second person, speaking to Jessica. This second person perspective, with her speaking directly to “you,” brought me right into the story. It felt like she was talking to me, which was so creepy.

This story kept me guessing until the end. It was very hard to put down because I wanted to know what was going to happen. I had no idea how it would end, and I was thoroughly surprised!

I loved this thriller! I highly recommend it for a fast-paced read!

An Anonymous Girl by Sarah Pekkanen and Greer Hendricks is told by two narrators, giving you the perspective of two damaged women. Are they both reliable narrators or is one manipulating the reader? Who can we trust?

As a reader, you are immediately interested and feel compassion for Jessica, a struggling make up artist in New York City. You know there is more to her story but you do know enough to have sympathy for her and want to find out more. Dr. Shields at first is nothing more to you than a doctor performing experiments but when her cracks start showing and Jessica becomes more intwined in Dr. Shields' experiments, oh boy!

I started this book as an audiobook. And while I do think that medium made it easier for me to understand the two distinct voices and characters, it took away the surprise that Jessica had that Dr. Shields was a woman. And in 2018/19 that is even a surprise? Yes, a woman can be a doctor! Not as shocking as I think the authors wanted it to be. As I continued with the audiobook, I did become invested with the characters but nothing much seemed to be happening. I blame the medium. I think that if I was reading the book myself, it would have had more of an urgency. And in fact when I did pick up the book itself, the story seemed to pick up the pace and I had to finish it right away.

I did enjoy this book but I do feel like it dragged a little in parts. The big reveals weren't so shocking as I had hoped but it was good enough that I would read and recommend this author to my patrons looking for new thriller/suspense books.

I really enjoyed this book. I have to say, this book left me looking at my life and the choices I've made in it so far. I love books that, even after reading, they still continue to resonate with me. An extremely good read.

I haven't read a thriller in so long and I almost forgot exactly why I love them.
But thanks to An Anonymous Girl, I remember everything.
I remember the suspense, the thrill, the intrigue.
I remember the terror, the uncertainty, the loss.

And can't believe I haven't read a thriller in years.

Well written, fairly fast paced, and it'll make you think.

I'm so terribly slow and behind on my ARCs from last year! This book came out in January and I had started off really excited by the premise of this book. It was to be my first Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen book but then life and things got in the way and I ended up not reading and reviewing it before its release date.

Now it's months later and I'm not only disappointed in myself but also this book. It started out slow but I was intrigued by the chapters that came from the therapist - her reports that came with a bit of distance from our subject held my interest even though I'm in a bit of a reading slump. Once I hit the 50% point, I was hooked and wanted to just keep reading. I needed to know if Lydia was going to discover all of the truths and whether or not, homegirl was going to make it to the end of the book with her sanity intact.

Fast forward to almost midnight on November 6th, 2019 as I lay in bed, eyes half-mast trying to finish the last two percent of the book and pffffft. What a stellar letdown. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love that Lydia managed to turn her subject into just another anonymous girl but after all of the shady stuff she pulled, there just was no resolution where she wasn't still holding the winning hand. It wasn't a bad book, I just rolled over and went to sleep feeling a bit let down by the ending.

I am still excited that I've got A Wife Between Us to still read, I just really had seen this book closing in a different way. I don't exactly know which way but that felt too easy, like a simple cop-out to just wrap everything up and in the end, it just proved people aren't as moral as they say they are.

This book kept me on my toes from the very beginning. People will go to great lengths for what they believe in. Just when you think you have it all figured out, something else pops up and will leave your jaw on the floor. This was an amazing read.

First, I must say that I didn't read the previous novel by these two authors; but the premise of "An Anonymous Girl" seemed particularly promising.

I won't even briefly describe the unfolding of the story; other readers did it very well.

Let me just mention that this novel is written from two alternative first person points of view: that of Jessica, the voluntary guinea pig, and Dr. Lydia Shields, the psychiatrist in charge of the study on morality and ethics. And a part is in the second person and the passive voice. The characters and the story-line are good. Its chapters aren’t too long. The pacing is terrific.

Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, the authors of this psychological suspense, were able to arouse my interest from the first pages and keep me guessing what comes next until the very end. It’s a well-structured and coherent novel. There are twists and turns throughout the story. The authors have incorporated elements of mystery throughout Jessica's journey.

However, I found Jessica a little naive. As the sessions of the experiment continue, and the payoff increases, Jessica’s involvement becomes more elaborate. She is forced to participate more actively than just by answering questions. And then, she grows paranoid and doesn't know anymore what is real and what is one of Lydia’s manipulative schemes... <spoiler>[which may have already led to the death of a woman known as Subject 5 </spoiler>. But I think I'd have had doubts well before Jess did and I'd have hesitated to divulge as much to a total stranger. I even found myself shaking my head in disbelief sometimes that Jess could be so clueless. Even if there are some surprises thrown in, I think that some plot points are a bit obvious: we guess pretty easily where it's going. But maybe the author wanted to unravel gradually the mystery so as to give the reader time to make their own suppositions.

But the ending is more unexpected and satisfying. So I can say that on the whole, this thought-provoking story made me think of my own life values and captivated me enough to want to read other works by these two authors.

I give 4 well-deserved stars to this novel.

This book was fine. At first the story was intriguing but it became so incredible that I didn't like it.
Not as thrilling as a thriller should be, darn it.

It was an interesting book but some parts seemed to drag on for me and I never really got into how the story was broken up. Sometimes I had to figure out who’s chapter I was reading. I would read this author again because it did have me wanting to find out what happened.

An Anonymous Girl was a great read by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. Jessica needed some extra cash and agrees to be a test subject for a psychological study. The study is about ethics and morality. Dr. Shields is the person in charge of the study and seems to know what Jess is thinking as well as hiding. She is not only monitored but her behavior is also manipulated. I really enjoyed this book and all the twists and turns that the authors take you on.

What a way to start off my thriller season of reading! This book was intriguing and full of drama. At points it could become confusing on which direction the plot was going but overall it ended and clarified everything. I really enjoyed this novel and look forward to reading more from these authors in the future. I especially enjoyed the duel perspectives. It made it that much more entertaining. If you are looking for a suspense novel that will sastify your creepy mood craving, pick this one up.

An Anonymous Girl was a fast paced tense thrill ride. I really enjoyed The Wife Between Us, so when NetGalley had this on their board, I jumped at the chance to read it. I love the duo's writing style and how they keep me gripped page after page. I will not hesitate to pick up any further books they write.

Jessica Farris is a New York makeup artist just trying to make ends meet. On a client call she peeks at the clients cell phone and see that she has been invited to participate in a study about ethics and morality. Jessica seizes the opportunity, but pretending to be someone she is not.

Dr. Lydia Shields is the professor conducting the study. She pulls Jessica in further and before long secrets come to surface.

If you love twisty, psychological books, than I believe you will enjoy this.

An Anonymous Girl by author duo Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is their second co-written venture. Their debut, The Wife Between Us, was my favorite read of 2017 AND 2018. (I was lucky enough to get my hands on an early copy, so I read it in late-2017, but the novel released in January of 2018.) It was SO GOOD. The writing, the twists, it was all perfection. Rarely do I read books that are so well-crafted I miss foreseeing twists and turns before their revealed, but when I finished The Wife Between Us, I screamed my adoration from rooftops. So when I learned their second book was releasing in January of 2019, I was ecstatic to read it.

This time, the story follows Jessica (Jess) Farris, a struggling makeup artist, and Dr. Lydia Shields, a brilliant NYC psychiatrist. As the novel progresses, the two become intimately known to each other, yet both try to hide secrets. Most times, they fail, and each tries to upstage the other in the dangerous game of cat and mouse they play. The twisted ending turns deadly, and I was left with mixed emotions.

I enjoyed this book, but not as much as I enjoyed their debut, The Wife Between Us. I finished that in a matter of days (it would have been mere hours if life hadn't gotten in the way), but it took nearly two weeks to finish this one. At times, it was paced too slowly for my liking, and I even wondered if I'd ever finish it. Other times, it was so exciting I couldn't put it down as I tore through page after page of deliciously twisty prose. The former, paired with the fact that I foresaw the ending and many of the twists before they were revealed, is why I gave this one four stars instead of five. But in the end, I've never had this much fun with such a depraved psychiatrist, so I still recommend it.

This book was so amazing. I really felt like I was in the head and conciousness of Jessica and Dr. Shields. The book starts with such an interesting premise, Jess wants to be part of a study on honestly for money (and ironically has to lie about where the person who was invited to be the real partiipant was), that she really doesn't see the red flags that come up.

Dr. Shields has an interestng motivation for the study, a few times you think you might understand what she's after, but her real motivation is quite unusual and not what Jess or the reader would suspect. A few other characters come into play, but most of the action is between these two and one other I won't mention as s/he is best to be surprised by their identity, motivations and actions.

The characters are belivable and compelling. Readers will find themselves unable to put this book down to see how far Jess will go when Dr. Shields wants to continue using Jess for more and more involved experiments, and what her final motive is. The ending is unpredictable, yet totally believable for our characters.

This is a highly recommendded page turner.

Jessica Farris is a twenty-eight-year-old makeup artist, who travels to her clients and does their makeup in their homes. She does not make a lot of money and her father has recently lost her job. When she hears a phone message at at client's house about a psychological study that is recruiting subjects, she decides that if her client isn't attending, she will go instead. The study is about morality and ethics, and she has not idea what she is in for. This decision changes her life.

I do not want to share anymore about the plot because you need to discover it for your yourself. This was a gripping psychological suspense novel with a great storyline, excellent characters, and twists and turns that kept glued to the story. It was dark and suspenseful. There were unreliable narrators, interesting and unlikable characters, and a creepy story of obsession, without violence. There is obviously some mental health issues with some of the characters, and one who preys on innocents for her own, selfish reasons. It was a story about love, anger, betrayal, morality, and obsession. One thing I learned is that you need to make sure you read the fine print before signing anything. I read this book in one day, because I wanted to find out what was going to happen next. Definitely a page turner.

After reading their first book, I was looking forward to reading this one. Jessica signs up to be a participant in a psychology study. She pretends to be someone else who was asked because she desperately needs the money. The questions become very personal and invasive as Jessica starts to question herself and how far she will go. An invitation from the person in charge of the study leads to even more personal tests. Jessica soon wonders how she will escape when the person you are trying to escape knows your deepest secrets and isn’t afraid to use them. An intense psychological thriller that I couldn’t put down.

I wasn't sure what to expect when going into this book. It had been on my TBR list for a while and I knew that I needed to read and review it. So, I dove in, without even reading the synopsis and refreshing myself on what the story was about. It was honestly kind of fun because I had forgotten what it said and it was neat to discover the different twists and turns with no idea of what the story was or who the characters were. I hadn't even read the previous book by these authors so I was going in completely blind.

That being said...

This book was pretty darn awesome. The differing points of views was a really cool quality as it gave a deeper insight to the character of of Dr. Shields. At first she's presented as an apparition-type character. She's there, with heavy influence, but we know absolutely nothing about her or what her role is in the story. Once we do get to know her character, we get to one of my favorite parts of this book. Her character. Her personality and the way she was written was so clinical and odd that you couldn't help but like her even though she makes you slightly uncomfortable. The ease in which she controls all situations of those around her and speaks as though she and her actions are those of someone else, someone that she's observing, is very unsettling and makes for a super interesting contrast to Jessica's normally average, though no less interesting, character.

The lengths that Dr. Shields goes to in order to complete her "study" and the true goals behind her charades is so deliciously twisted that there was no way I could put this book down. I had to know what was going to happen next and what he obsessive mind would come up with. This book was awesome and I would honestly love to see it as a movie.

Thrilling story with a plot that kept me turning the pages, really well written with great characters. Highly recommend to everyone who is a fan of this genre.

Just like 'The Wife Between Us', An Anonymous Girl was very well written. It was intriguing and I was very quickly drawn in and could not put the book down until I was done.
