I loved this book! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I read this book at the beach and it was a perfect beach read. There were a lot of twists and turns and when I thought I had it all figured out, I realized I didn’t, which had me guessing right up until the last page. Highly recommend for those that enjoy suspense books, I’m really excited to read more from this author.

This one kept me completely intrigued while reading, and I wanted to know what happened...but there was no huge explosive, make me gasp ending. I also didn’t particularly feel connected to any one character. They were kind of vanilla. It’s sad because I truly felt this book had amazing potential. I mean, I came up with all kinds of twists in my head that I was waiting to see if it would happen...but, alas, it didn’t. I’ve been told the authors’ other book, The Wife Between Us, is amazing. I plan to read it soon and hope I love it. This one was just a bit of a let down for me.

Thanks to the publisher and authors and NetGalley for the arc I received.

**3.5 stars

I loved the first half or so of this book. The beginning was so intriguing with figuring out the purpose of the study and getting to know the characters. But it kind of dragged on. I also found Jess to be a bit annoying and unlikable, as demonstrated by the ending. However the mystery behind Dr Shields purpose and to see how the story ended kept be turning the pages.

It was a pretty good read though overall.

A crazy moral testing book involving intrigue, betrayal, cunningly twisted scenarios and a protagonist in the midst of it all who will do anything to get to the truth and the reason she is being played!

Reminded me a bit of that Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick film.

Special thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers for this review copy.

Was excited to get to review this book. It draws you in for the first few pages and it keeps you wanting more. Fast read and loved the ending. Thanks for the opportunity to review this title. This is their second together hope to see more.

This book was impossible to put down. Intense. Twisted. Unique. Realistically creepy. Jess, a professional makeup artist with her own set of issues, signs up for a paid psychological study and the fast paced cat and mouse game moves on from there. Lots of unexpected turns. Just the type of thriller that I enjoy. I seriously can't wait to see what these authors come up with next.

From the amazing author team that wrote The Wife Between Us comes another high stakes thriller that will leave you racing to finish.
An Anonymous Girl reads like the ultimate cat and mouse game, leaving you constantly questioning who is chasing who. Jessica, a struggling makeup artist, happens to see an ad for a paid psychological study about lying and honesty while out on an assignment. From the initial session, alarm bells are raised, but desperate for money, Jessica continues the study, eventually meeting the study's lead, Dr. Shields. The professional barrier between the two women gradually fades away as they become more and more immersed in each other's lives, with secrets becoming apparent on both sides.
I read this book in less than 24 hours as I became consumed with an intense desire to see what would happen. Unfortunately, I cannot divulge much more of the plot or the strengths and weaknesses without somehow giving away or hinting at one of the many, many twists, but this was a standout book for me. As I remembered being a young, struggling twenty something, I deeply identified with Jessica and remembered all too well my own days of signing up for studies in hopes of some extra cash or other perks (like a free lunch). Tight writing and expert plotting with relatable characters and a mostly satisfying ending make this one a five a star read.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a free advance copy. This did not impact my review.

Yiiiiiikes what did I just read (in a really good way)?!?!? I was 110% enthralled with this book from start to finish, and I have no idea why I waited so dang long to pick it up. Off to find The Wife Between us now....

Unfortunately, I can't finish this book. This book is suspenseful, but I realized that I didn't care about the characters at all. Characters are what make me want to keep reading, and unfortunately, this fell flat for me. I wasn't impressed with the writing, nor was I impressed with the plot. The blurb of this book sounded fascinating, but I wasn't impressed with the execution.

This book was amazing! I read their previous book, and liked it, but this one was so much better. The twists and turns held me captivated to the page long into the early morning hours. I highly recommend this book.

I don't know what it is about these two authors when they decide to collab on a story, but they make suspenseful book magic together.

The book starts off different then any other book I have read and that drew my attention immediately. I have read a lot from this genre so not much surprises me but the premise was different and intriguing. Dr. Fields and Jessica seemed like they couldn't be more different, but by the end I wasn't so sure.

Each chapter your getting alternate POV's of Dr. Fields and Jessica in the present. While your getting inside the head of each narrator, not all is revealed to the reader, much like The wife between us. I love this way of a plot unfolding and this duo collabs so well together, you never feel a break in their storytelling or any plot holes. The suspense is a slow build that keeps you wanting more.

I look forward to Greer Hendrickson and Sarah Pekkanen creating more best sellers in the future. Their flow in storytelling is effortless.

When struggling makeup artist Jessica Farris signs up for a psychological study on ethics and morality, she thinks all she’ll have to do is answer some multiple-choice questions, collect her $500, and leave. But when the questions grow more intense and invasive, and the study “evolves”, as Dr. Shields puts it, Jessica begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know not just what she’s thinking, but also what she’s hiding.

On one hand, Jessica is comforted by the weight lifted from her after confessing so much about herself to someone behind a computer screen. On the other, as the study continues, Jessica grows more paranoid about what’s happening in the real world and what’s another one of Dr. Shields’ experiments. Just what exactly does she know about this Dr. Shields anyway, and can Jessica actually trust them?

A gripping story about obsession and jealousy, An Anonymous Girl was, for me, the perfect blend of You and Gone Girl. Told from alternating points of view, from Jessica and Dr. Shields, readers will be caught up in the game of mental chess the two characters are engaged in, unsure who they can trust or what turn the story is going to take next.

And ultimately, even days after finishing the book, I’m still wondering about the same questions posed at the end of the book: was it all worth it? Do the ends ever justify the means? Can anyone ever really change? What boundaries are you prepared to cross — for love, for security?

I had such high hopes for this novel and was so excited to read it, but sadly, this one fell short for me. I'm not sure why, maybe the pacing and structure of the writing, but I was bored to death. I loved the premise of this novel and found the plot and characters to be unique, unfortunately, both Dr. Field's and Jess just didn't excite me. I have no idea how to pinpoint what exactly my issues were and apparently, based on other reviews, I am in the minority. I didn't experience any major suspenseful or thrilling twists while reading it, but instead, found almost all of the "big moments" predictable.

The first 60-75 pages were intriguing, but after that mark, it dragged on and on for me personally. I don't read thrillers all of the time (probably 2030% of my reading), but the ones I love are the ones that are full of surprises and An Anonymous Girl had almost none.

"Doubt surrounds even the most banal of explanations.
This is the legacy of infidelity."

An Anonymous Girl tells the story of Jessica Farris, a young woman who agrees to participate in an anonymous study about morality and ethics. She thinks it will be simple – show up, answer some questions, get paid, leave – but Dr. Shields shows an interest in her and wants to continue the study beyond the walls of the testing room. These studies show an increased manipulation of Jessica as she is told how to dress and how to act in various settings. It isn’t long until she doesn’t know who to trust – she doesn’t even know if she can trust her own thoughts as truly her own or as those of Dr. Shields.

I love a good story about an unreliable female narrator, especially one where she is in her twenties as that is more relatable, but it felt almost too like their previous novel, The Wife Between Us. I think I’m noticing a pattern to the authors’ approach. Not only are both of the main characters unreliable as narrators, but there is a distinct formulaic feel in the format of the story itself. In both books, every other chapter jumps between the two central narrators; in The Wife Between Us, we alternate between Nellie and Vanessa, while in An Anonymous Girl, we jump between Jessica and the mysterious Dr. Sheids. In the first half of the book, there is a build-up to a “big reveal”; I am notoriously bad at figuring out reveals in thrillers before they happen, but I was able to figure out both in advance. The second half of the book is more fast-paced as more twists and turns are introduced, leading to a conclusion that is more subtle than the initial “big reveal” (and, for me, unexpected in both cases).

I honestly didn’t enjoy An Anonymous Girl as much as The Wife Between Us, though from the description I was expecting to like it more. Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood for a thriller, or maybe the authors’ formula felt a little tired in their sophomoric book. I plan on reading the next book by these authors, but I am not waiting as eagerly as I was for this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced copy of this eBook in exchange for an honest review.

I will say that I was not a fan of their first book. I did thoroughly enjoy their writing style, so I wanted to give them a chance to get better. It was better. However, I did pick up on the twist early on, so that was majorly disappointing. I still absolutely love their writing style and I will still pick up their next book happily, just knowing that I will at least fairly enjoy the journey they give me.

Wow could not put this book down. Slowed a bit in the middle but great carefully drawn characters. Thrilling read.

LOVED THIS BOOK! Jessica joins a morality study at the university given by Dr. Shields, a professor. Seems pretty simple and straight-forward. However, Jessica is guided or misguided by her deep seeded guilt over an accident that she feels responsible for that left her sister forever altered and her parents taking care of her. This plays into how she answers questions and her answers play into Dr. Shields and her messed up view of her own life and marriage. Things get really interesting when Dr. shields husband comes into the mix and the study then becomes their reality. The twists and turns leave you wondering where the study ends and Dr. Shields need to insert herself begins. This is a book you won’t want to put down so plan out some time to soak it up.

This was a good read. I enjoyed the plot twists and turns. The beginning of the book was a bit slow but it really picked up toward the middle. You didn't know who to believe!

This book grabs you from the get go! I love the POV from Dr. Shields, I hadn't seen this style of writing in many books and it really works here!

An interesting, original premise. I originally got this on netgalley but ended up listening to the audiobook. The use of passive voice for one of character's POV lended to the character's creepiness, but I grew weary of it by the end. Not sure I could have made it through if I had read the ebook instead. The narrators did a good job bringing it to life.

Thanks to the authors, publisher, and netgalley for a copy of the ARC.
