If you've had a bloated belly problem, this is the book for you. It is easy to read and use. The terminology is understandable.

Best of all, the beginning of he book has a test for the reader to take that shows what the cause of your particular belly bloat happens to be, and then directs you to the chapters that apply to your problem.

This book is a Godsend. It answered questions for me that no one else, including gi doctors have been able to address.

I found the title and premise of "The Bloated Belly Whisperer" exciting and lept into reading it. Unfortunately, it didn't give me any insight into my belly bloat, nor that of the three friends nearby.

The quiz was unreadable in the Kindle version of this book (as was anything in point form), so I skipped to the sections I knew were issues for me. All I got was a Web-MD -like explanation of my issue, along with medical interventions my doctor might suggest. Nothing about alternative options, different ways of eating, or dietary and lifestyle suggestions.

The book was well-written and easy to work through. I wish there was more here than basic information.

This book was very informative it helps find different causes of belly issues, how to discuss with professionals. It helps with what to do and not to do. This was a great informative read.

A few pages of this download has error messages so I am not sure if that was my downloaded version or what really happened but I did get to read some. Great book to learn more about your body. I found it interesting and informative.

The Bloated Belly Whisperer takes a look at dietary scenarios that could leave a person, well, bloated. There is a quiz to narrow your problems down and recipes to try.

I found the bloated belly whisperer to be very informative and really explains different situations as to why you might be bloated. The quiz was very helpful to narrow down which chapter(s) will best suit what you are looking for. The book is a great read and would recommend for anyone interested in the subject or just for anyone who is curious.

Thank netgally, the author for an Advanced Copy of this book. I really enjoyed this book. It's well worth reading

I had high hopes for this book, but didn't find it very helpful. It was mostly information I already knew and treatments that I've already tried that didn't help. I was hoping for more information about alternative medicine in this book as that is what has helped me the most. However, the author spoke a lot about how there wasn't much research backing the effectiveness of natural and alternative methods and mainly focused on mainstream medicine approaches. They have their place, but don't help everyone. Thank you to the author and publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book does seem to have good information and potentially helpful advice. There is strong possibility that I could buy the book and recommend it to others. However because a large portion of the book was in gibberish, I felt that I could not get an overall sense of it. I am especially unsure of the recipe section. It seemed like the recipes might have been all throughout the book and not in one section. But I couldn't tell. Should I buy the book, I will do a full review on my blog. So for now my star review is of the incomplete book.

EDIT 1/6/19 - I did in fact buy the book and so here is the updated review:

Ahoy there me mateys!  Okay so this be a weird book to appear on me blog.  A little background.  I don't talk much of me personal life on this blog very often because the focus is books and the point of this hobby is to bring me joy. So the bad things that happen tend to be dealt with on me own.  However, life changes occurred in 2018 that made this book relevant and helpful and so figured I would share in case some other crew member may need it.
Beginning in March 2018 and taking until December 2018, I experienced intestinal pain of such intensity that I would be laid out in me bunk for days at a time.  Thousands of dollars in medical tests later gave me negative results and no pain relief.  Then I got a new primary doctor  who suggested a low-FODMAP diet.  Basically for reasons no one understands, my body suddenly stopped being able to digest certain types of sugars.  Diabetes runs rampant in me family so I don't know if there is a correlation but there is no denying that beloved foods now cause excruciating pain.  And a lot of that pain shows up with anywhere from 4 to 10 pounds of stomach bloat.

This book showed up towards the end of journey into the FODMAP diet.  I had already been (finally) diagnosed and was at the tail end of figuring out the list of many foods that cause me grief.   But I saw this title on NetGalley, thought "well more information is always good", and got a partial eArc from the publisher.  I was mainly interested in the recipe recommendations and to see what other recommendations there were for combating bloat as all the doctors were disinclined or confused about how to actually treat the recurring systems that just wouldn't go away.  None of the standard medication worked for me.

So I ended up really liking this book as an additional resource.  The particular sections that were invaluable dealt with supplements, fiber, and the research results of some of the recent studies.  I do think this would be a great starting point into possibilities of bloating issues and wish I had this back in the beginning.  There is even a quiz to that can help determine which conditions ye might have.  So much suffering and useless medical tests could have been avoided.  I do have to say that the recipes in this book were lackluster.  Basically there are a couple of recipes for each type of diagnosis.  So don't buy this for the recipes.  But if ye experience unusual painful bloating and are at a loss as to how to get rid of it then this book might be handy.

Goodreads' website has this to say about the novel:

Bloating: ugh. About the most common complaint they get from patients, according to gastroenterologists. But Tamara Duker Freuman, a highly trained and sought-after nutritionist, knows something many doctors don't: every unhappy belly is unhappy in its own way. That's why Tamara's clients call her "The Bloated Belly Whisperer," and for good reason--for many years she's successfully helped her clients accurately describe their symptoms, and find a course of treatment that delivers rapid and lasting relief.

In The Bloated Belly Whisperer, Tamara guides readers through the same steps she would use in a consultation, first with a quiz to help them hone in on their specific symptoms, and then by discussing the latest research and patient stories to offer dozens of solutions that will reduce abdominal bloating in a week or less by:

- Helping identify the specific cause of bloating
- Equipping readers with the right terminology and questions to take to their next doctor's visit
- Teaching the most effective dietary remedies for each particular brand of bloating
- Laying out the tools and healthy practices to end abdominal distress and bloating once and for all

There are so many books like this out there that I appreciated the ease of use. There's a quiz you can take that can narrow down your choices so if you feel like things don't apply to you, you can jump to relevant sections, which I appreciated.

This book had interesting suggestions for using dietary modifications to manage bloating due to intestinal difficulties, especially IBS, Celiac, and similar issues. I thought the explanation of the low-FODMAP diet was clear and easy to understand. Even though Ms. Freuman is an expert dietitian, the definitions of the dietary principles wasn't too technical.

I was hoping that the book would help me because I have a disproportionately large stomach. I've discovered that my issue is due to excess cortisol and poor stress management, so these particular dietary changes did not seem to make much difference. However, I do have a family member with IBS, so I will be recommending this to him.

I think this book is a very good solution for specific types of nutritional issues and health conditions, though it doesn't equally apply to all people with bloating because the causes are different. However, because this diet is free of unhealthy and processed foods in general, I believe it would probably help anyone lose weight.

I received an ARC for free through NetGalley and was not compensated for my review nor told what to write.

Nutritionist Tamara Freuman didn’t begin her career thinking she would become the “bloat whisperer,” but over her many years of working with patients, she began to notice certain commonly-reported symptoms and complaints that went beyond usual mild reflux or gassiness. In this book, she gives the eight most common disorders that cause bloat, along with guidelines for how to treat them. She starts the book with a short quiz that narrows down the possibilities of diagnosis. Once you take the quiz, you can read the book straight through, or just read the chapter or chapters that apply to you, which is what I did. Each chapter gives an overview of causes, what each disorder feels like, as well as what you can do to fix the issue.

She also devotes a whole chapter at the end to low-FODMAP diet choices that can help decrease discomfort overall. (FODMAP is an acronym for four hard-to-pronounce molecules found in food that many people have trouble digesting.)

I think we’ve all experienced some belly bloat at one point or another. The trouble comes when it persists—and it’s not always easy to know what to do about it. But this book is honest-to-God amazing at helping to diagnose and solve the most common bloat problems. Plus the info is presented using clear language in an easy-to-follow format with just enough humor to make reading about gas and poop not weird, maybe even a little fun. What a surprisingly fascinating read.

I’m not sure everyone would be able to see results within a week following the author’s suggested program, but she does offer helpful advice for those experiencing bloating and other digestive distress.

The included diagnostic quiz suggested that I likely had SIBO, which was confirmed with a breath test ordered by my doctor. Reading the chapter about SIBO helped me feel more confident discussing the condition and potential treatments with my doctor.

I thought the book was logically organized and written in a way that was easy to understand, with lots of tables to summarize the text. My gastroenterologist gave me some of the same recommendations that the author suggests. Her approach is conservative, but backed up by scientific studies (sources listed in the back) as well as clinical experience. I found her discussions of fiber, the Low-FODMAP diet, and dietary supplements very helpful—she gives very specific recommendations and explains her reasoning.

I have not tried any of the included recipes—most either did not appeal or included foods I can’t eat because of intolerances. The recipes appeared to be clearly written and used ingredients that should be easy for most people to find.

I recommend this book to anyone suffering from bloating and digestive distress.

I was provided an ARC through NetGalley that I volunteered to review. Because I have not seen the final published version, I cannot comment on the final editing and formatting.

A pretty big amount of the ARC I was given to review was unable to be read, however, what I could read was good information in a relatable voice. I will probably purchase a copy after it releases for the recipes that are included and to have the full book as reference.

When something has a name like 'classic indigestion' then you know that the rest of the conditions are not going to be simple. it is mind and stomach blowing that there are so many things that could go wrong inside the digestive system. This book is a treasure trove of that mystery.
breath testing for H Pylori, esophagus ph, GERD, APD, GP are all so many things you will learn about.
Best are the real life examples of profiles and their diets and symptoms which makes you forget that you are reading of troubles.
The book is very detective and diagnostic,

Before writing this review, I must note that about half of the text was unreadable in my review copy. NetGalley did not mention that this would be an excerpt. As a result, I cannot comment on the "belly quiz", the recipes, the information about supplements or the suggested diets for various maladies. I can, however, comment on the descriptions or diagnostic tests.

The Bloated Belly Whisperer /seems/ to be quite thorough. Each part focuses on an area of the body, and the chapters discuss various dysfunctions and diseases that may be leading to discomfort. According to the author, mild cases of illnesses can usually be treated with diet, but most doctors recommend the wrong diet for the illness. She says this usually happens when the doctor is not specialized in gastroenterology, or when a particular condition is not very common. Dr. Freuman carefully outlines common diet mishaps and often recommends a combination of diet and medication where necessary.

When there are tests available for the illness, Dr. Freuman carefully describes them. She uses a very matter-of-fact tone of voice throughout the book. Unlike many related books, The Bloated Belly Whisperer does not fall into alarmism. I'd recommend it for people who have general discomfort in their "stomach" (actually, more problems are likely to occur in the intestines) but they can't figure out what it is, despite visiting the doctor several times. This books may also be helpful for people who have received a diagnosis, but who still have not gotten relief.

The ARC copy I reviewed had symbols in place of words for entire pages and for some of the most pertinent parts. That’s not the author’s fault, and from what I could read, this book is brilliant, groundbreaking, and helpful. As explained by the author, little is known about how to fix bloating, but through her experience she has identified possible causes and several solutions. I am ordering a hardcopy because this is a book I’ll want to own and also because of the formatting issues contained in the ARC.

Thanks to the publisher for the complimentary copy and for publishing this well-needed book. All opinions are my own.

I love that Tamara takes on the basics first in this book, explaining EXACTLY what happens in each part of your digestive tract. Then she breaks down her chapters in relation to that- upper digestive issues, middle, and lower ones. She offers 10 primary problems, their symptoms, typical medications (and why those meds may fail), what you should be eating, and tests that your doctor needs to do, to verify THAT is the actual issue you are having. Plus she gives you a basic quiz to try to narrow down which ones you need to start with!

I was interested to read this book, as my 11 yr old has suffered from reflux literally all of her life and when puberty started, she started with horrendous bloating and while we have been able to resolve most of the issue, she has periodic flareups that leave the doctor scratching her head as well. In this book i found out that her medications may be the issue. Who knew certain probiotics could make some people's stomachs worse? Tamara offers a better choice, which we will be picking up, to see if that could be part of the simple solution for her flareups! This ties in with what we thought was a gluten sensitivity, that may be more of a yeast issue. If it works, this will be a total change for her, and for her diet, ending a cycle of bad choices and pain!

This is a really interesting and informative book, and if you, or anyone you know suffers from gastric distress and bloating, this book may just have the answers they NEED! So get them on the right track for the new year, by giving them this book, this holiday season!

This ARC was unreadable. There was paragraph after paragraph after paragraph that were simply gibberish. It’s as if someone ran the manuscript through some sort of writing application and it ran amok changing letters, punctuation, and spelling. When a critical piece of the manuscript – a questionnaire – was like that, I set the book aside because the rest of the book was predicated on having answered those questions according to the author.

Someone – the copy editor, the proofreader, and especially the author – should have checked this book before sending it out as advanced reading copies. While I don’t expect any ARC to be perfect, a misspelled word here, an errant punctuation mark there, this was a disaster.
