This book takes readers through Little Hoo's preparations for going to school! All children can relate to the worries, thoughts, and excitement that Little Hoo experiences preparing him for school. The illustrations are so cute and the story is fun and very relate-able for children. This story helps toddlers and young children ready themselves for their own experiences with starting school! Would recommend to all parents of toddlers and young children.

The illustrations were missing from the e-version we received so we can't comment on them. Here is another sweet addition to the "Little Hoo" series. Mama Hoo encourages Little Hoo as he gets ready for his first day of school.

Additionally, the text seemed jumbled at times, as one moment Mama Hoo seems to be asking (out of the blue) about finding hidden eggs--and the next moment, she wonders if Little Hoo is scared he won't like his teacher. She encourages Little Hoo about learning new things and making friends. A book to help the pre-K set prepare for the first day of school, of course.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very cute book about Little Hoo who is a bit nervous to start school. Eventually he learns that it's a lot of fun. A good story with fun pictures. I think many kids and parents can relate to the story.

A fantastic book to read to a child entering preschool or school for the first time. This is a stressful time for little ones with seperation from Mom and Dad and making new friends. We as parents or Grandparents are stressed and sometimes that relays to the children. If explained to them this will help them ease some of the fears of school. This book definately does that and opens the door to communication and any questions your child may have about their new adventure. I really recommend this book to parents who have preschool or children going into kindergarten. To teach a child school is a happy place is important, to ease their minds is equally as important.
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This delightful little book with its adorable characters will be the perfect catalyst to generate a conversation about feelings and anxieties as your little one begins school for the very first time.

Little Owl is feeling anxious about going off on his own and being separated from his mother and all the familiar things that he engages in at home. His mother lovingly assures him that there is nothing to fear and the day ahead can be fun.

Little Owl is worrying if he'll make friends, if his teacher may be scary, leaving his mother and his favourite stuffed owl toy behind at home, just to name a few. She lovingly guides him through these unsubstantiated feelings that are swirling inside of him and assures him that everything will be fine and he will have a great day.

If you have a wee one that is anxious about entering into a new situation then this book is wonderful to share together and to talk about overcoming these scary thoughts and feelings that inhabit both the mind and the heart concerning the unknown. I too was a very nervous child when stepping out into unfamiliar territory so I can truly relate to little Owl's disquietness. Fortunately I had a great Mother who was there for me and coached me through those alarming scenarios when they arose.

The illustrations are bold, colourful and very kid-friendly. "Little Hoo Goes to School" is part of the Little Hoo series that features short, reassuring, positive texts for preschoolers. They teach very important life lessons. This book assures you that you can turn fear into fun. I highly recommend this book.

Sweet story for little ones helping them get ready for going to school. It is a nice story helping them overcome any nerves by addressing some of the worries they might have about their new adventure -- school. The illustrations are well done and colorful too -- overall a wonderful book great for easing going to school nerves.

A very simple story for little ones. The colorful illustrations dominate the book who has very little text. The characters are very cute. Mum Owl asks little owl about the possible fears he might have on his first day of school.

This is a good conversation starter for parents to reassure their kids there is no need to worry about their first day of school. Yet, their fears are not discarded as groundless or even ridiculous but discussed. Solutions are presented to solve any problem and banish any apprehension.
It's a very small book for very young children.

There is a free 8 pages lesson plan available for classroom use, with several activities for the kids.

I received this book as an eARC from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

For little ones heading off to school for the first time, Little Hoo Goes To School is adorable. It takes common worries that children have about going to school and solves them. It's a little simplistic, so it might be better suited for children ages 2-4 than those going to elementary school. However, it does normalize fears, and it helps kids understand the reality behind their concerns.
The book is short and simple, with large text and colorful pictures. Little ones will enjoy the story, even if they aren't going off to school just yet.

This short read-aloud articulates many of the fears that a child could experience when thinking about the first day of school. Each anxiety is given an airing and a reassurance. Using an animal rather than a human may make it easier for a child to obliquely acknowledge his or her own concerns. I felt that this book's strength lay in recognizing the concerns a child might feel. However, in addition to providing reassurance the book might have benefited from talking about the routine and structure of the school day so as to help a child to know what to expect.

The illustrations were simple and colorful. They added to the text.

My copy just had text, no illustrations. I like the concept of easing a child's worries about school. The book is simple, reassuring, and pleasant.

Little Hoo Goes to School by Brenda Ponnay is another lovely book in Little Hoo series especially suitable for the youngest readers.

As with all the other book this one also talks about very important issues-starting school. Little Hoo is nervous and doesn't know what awaits him. So his mother explains easing his worries.

I am a huge fan of Little Hoo series not just because of daring illustrations but because they always teach a valuable lesson in fun and interesting way that even the youngest readers can understand,
It is a pleasure to read these books especially this one as I have a preschooler of my own I found it very helpful and used the opportunity to talk about my child.
Highly recommended.

What a lovely book. Perfect for young children going to school for the first time. The story follows an mama owl telling her baby what will happen in school while addressing real fears of young children. The illustrations are colorful without being overwhelning and adorable.

This is a cute little book for the young children who are about to start school for the first time. As Little Hoo prepares for the first day, his Mom explains that there is nothing to fear, in fact, the day ahead can be fun! It’s a great way to teach children why they shouldn’t be worried about starting school. It seems to cover some of the major issues that young children worry about when starting school. I love the illustrations in this book, they are fun and show emotions very well. I read this book to my grandson who will be going back to school in a week to begin SK. As he does have a lot of anxiety issues, he picked up on several things in the story and wanted to know, "Why is his teacher angry?" He was relieved to see the next page with a smiling teacher. A good book to read to youngsters, but there may be some explanation needed as the fist page shows the negative or what might upset Hoo, then the next one shows that won't happen. The publisher, Xist Publishing, generously provided me with a copy of this book to read. The rating, ideas and opinions stated are my own.

Not a book I would likely choose for a child about to start school. While the pictures are cute enough and the reading level reasonable for story time there’s something about flow that doesn’t appeal to me. It’s almost like the fears are being pushed onto the new student instead of being a response to his own fears. I feel it would have been better as a two way dialogue where little Hoo expressed the concern and mother responded. It does address a variety of possible concerns a first time student might have.

Colorful illustrations. Might be a bit too juvenile for kids starting kindergarten but would fit with a preschool student. "Copy of this book was provided by Xist Publishing via netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."

A very simple story in which an owl is going to his first day of school and is reassured of all his questions before he can ask them. I’d be more concerned as to why Momma Owl is feeding her kid pickles, but all seems to end well. It’s part of a long series, and without reading any others I can’t tell if this is meant to entertain or simply provide a bit of psychology for those kids starting school.
As expected for such a young audience, the artwork is all exaggerated broad strokes, making things easy for the little ones to understand.

I love the illustrations in “Little Hoo Goes to School” and the storyline is equally darling. It's time for Little Hoo to start his first-ever class and he’s scared because he’s never gone. As he prepares for the first day, his Mom explains that there is nothing to fear, in fact, the day ahead can be fun! Little Hoo Goes to School helps the youngest readers prepare for their own first days and is part of of a series of books that feature cute calming texts for toddlers and preschoolers.  5/5
