Different. I don't know. Not for me I guess. I really couldn't get into it. It didn't grab nor keep my attention.

This book seemed like something that I might enjoy, but despite being well written, it just wasn't my type of book. I am giving it 4 stars because I feel that others may enjoy this if they like this particular genre.

This is a really beautiful, magical novel. It teems with magical realism and Hammes turn of phrase is pretty magical in itself. You never quite know what is real and what is an illusion. South Carolina really comes to life and is peopled with interesting and varied people.

It is a pretty impressive debut.

I received a galley of this novel in return for an honest review.

This book gave me a look into some of what of the low country lure. It was exciting from the first chapter to last. I will recommend this to my friends.

This is a story about a family who lives a life fairly isolated from the rest of their small southern town. The town is deeply rooted in legends that are upheld and only whispered about. The town is highly protective of their legends and don’t like any one investingating further. So when tragedy strikes the family and they begin to question and seek answers from these legends things get even more difficult. I found this books plot and story very intriguing, the first third of the book went quickly. I did find the second and third parts to be a bit slower. I absolutely love this story and plot line however some of the things in the middle parts just dragged on for me. The ending was one that left me feeling happy and still interested in reading more from this author in the future.
