I really didn't like this book. The writing was too simple. I felt like the whole plot was told through dialogue and there wasn't enough description or depth. I barely know what anyone looked like and the synopsis of the book actually spoiled the reveal for me. Not a good experience for me.

I don't know if it was because I read this book at the end of the summer, and it seems like a book I'd want to read in the middle of December or January, but unfortuneatly I just couldn't get into this book. The author seemed to have an original story line and a story to tell, but the actual writing of it just seemed to get into the way,

I received an ARC copy from netgalley for my honest review, so thank you netgalley and publishers for offering me this book! ♡
The cover and title is what originally drew me to this book.
No one inside the snow globe knows that Morozoko Industries is controlling their weather, testing them to form a stronger race that can survive the fall out from the bombs being dropped in the outside world—all they know is that they must survive the harsh Winter that lasts a month and use the few days of Spring, Summer, and Fall to gather enough supplies to survive.
When the seasons start shifting, Genesis and her boyfriend, Jack, know something has gone wrong. As their team begins to find technology that they don’t have access to inside their snow globe of a world, it looks more and more like one of their own is working against them.
Genesis soon discovers Morozoko Industries is to blame, but when a foreign enemy tries to destroy their weather program to make sure their destructive life-altering bombs succeed in destroying the outside world, their only chance is to shut down the machine that is spinning out of control and save the lives of everyone inside the bunker--at any cost.
This was my first book by this author. It was alltogether an easy read. ♡ I give this book a
4.5 star rating!

This was massively disappointing. I went into this quite excited, even having seen an array of negative reviews, due to the premise of the book and the wonderful cover. Sadly, I wished I'd paid more attention to my friend's reviews. I could not get into this book for the life of me, I found the writing awkward and the pacing disjointed.

This was a totally unexpected yet disappointed read.
I was hooked up in the summary. Jack frost was always my hero and I was intrigued to read this.
But as the story goes the interest dimmed away.

Pretty strong start but it trudged in between, finished predictably.
May or may not look forward to the sequel if it manages to compensate for book 1.

DNF...Sorta...since I skipped ahead, as the story took a lot of time to pick up and wherever I landed I was getting not only the vibes of Maze Runner by James Dashner distinctly but also how the what the conflict the plot was surrounded by.

Its better termed as Dystopian Jack Frost, for you won't find much related to the real Jack Frost here.
I really considered continuing with this, but now I don't see it happening.

The title and summary of the book hooked me. Jack Frost being one of my favourite fairy tale hero, there was no way I would pass this book without giving it a chance.

Such sadness I felt to realise, only a few pages in, that the whimsical and enchanted story I was hoping for, would in fact be a soppy, post apocalyptic teenage romance. Far were the magic I was waiting for, replaced instead by a weak main character and a Jack Frost that is in fact the rude and pompous bachelor of the bunker.

I had to force myself to finish this book, hoping that every new page could be my saviour and would finally bring the wind of fresh air, laughter and light-hearted touch that Jack Frost embodies, but alas.

Although the premise was promising, I am afraid this book simply did not meet my expectations.

I couldn't stand one of the characters because they annoyed me since I don't like their personality. I thought the world was a bit confusing, and I wasn't sure what was going on. I found the book a bit slow for me to read. I wish there are more to story for me to enjoy, and it didn't live up to my expectations.

This was an interesting and different take on the myth of Jack Frost. The snow globe concept is different than anything I have read before. How scary would it be to not be sure what season it would be the next time you woke up! Genesis is a smart character who starts to question some of the odd things that are going on around her and figures out about Morozoko’s involvement.

As much as we learned in this story, there are still so many questions left. I hope we get a sequel to see what happens with the Globe going forward and the people inside. I would also like to learn more about the real world and how the Globe is going to help.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes distopians and retellings.

I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Hey book slayers!

Jana here with yet another review. This time, I was sent an ARC through NetGalley by Xpresso Book Tours of KM Robinson‘s The Revolution of Jack Frost in exchange for an honest review. The book is set to release of near the beginning of November.

My Rating: 2 / 5

First let me say – I don’t really think I was in the mind-set for this style of book at the exact moment, and it very well could have affected my review. I found this book very hard to get in to, and after the wild adventure I went on in the last book I read, I felt this to be slow and drawn out, it actually took quite a bit of will not to DNF it. I do plan to purchase the book when it is released, and re-read and re-review when I am in a better mindset, but I have a funny feeling it may fall flat again.

I don’t know what it was, but between the cheesy romance, the strange concept, the less than convincing character development, and the expectation from when I read the title and saw the cover, to when I read the actual book, I just wasn’t thrilled. I was expecting a lot more out of this and it fell really flat for me. The concept is interesting; living in a snow globe, the weather being controlled by a big brother sort of character, pushing them to survive, to be stronger. But the execution didn’t draw me in, which is a shame. The characters didn’t draw me in at all, there wasn’t one character I felt any real attachment or feeling for. I didn’t really care what happened to any of them, and that is a first for me in a book.

I can’t say I would rush out and recommend this to my family or friends, but, I will eventually make a purchase, if not only for the sake of having this stunning cover on my shelves.

Until next review; may your coffee be strong, and your books be magical!

Happy reading!

Jana

I didnt enjoyed this book. I didnt even finish it. I DNF it after about 70 pages. It was predictable and slow for me. Im not trying to knock the book but, it needed something more.

I ended up DNF-ing this about 50 pages in. It wasn’t a horrible book by any means, I just wasn’t in the mood for this type of story.

Maybe I’ll revisit it in the future.

You know those books that are so generic that it's clear the author just wanted to have a book written but didn't care what it was about as long as it sold? Well, this is the opposite. It's an author who really wanted to tell a story but had no idea how to actually write a book.

Obligatory Summary

Genesis and her band of faceless masses all live in a world with unpredictable weather, left there by some unseen entity to fight for their survival.

Our world runs in cycles that change like a person shaking one of the snow globes we found in the storage room in the bunker when we were kids. Two days of Spring, a week of Summer, four days of Fall, followed by a month of Winter. Most days, I wouldn't mind if our world fell off whatever shelf it is sitting on, smashing the cycle.

She and her boyfriend, Jack, as well as some of her close friends all know that things are changing--Winter is getting longer, Summer shorter, and things are even more unpredictable than ever. But what if they have a spy, secretly relaying information back to whatever force put them there? And what if it's someone Genesis loves?

The Writing and Worldbuilding

Sounds kinda cool, right?

Wrong.

The book is so nonsensical that most of that was taken from the book's description. It isn't that it's a terrible story--it's far too simple to be truly bad--but it is poorly executed, with dismal pacing and utterly dreadful syntax. The verb tense constantly changed, the sentences were run-ons and awkward. Dialogue was...okay, but only for a few characters. Time passing was imperceptible (apparently the book takes place over a few days but it felt like a month at least) and the number of people in the bunker was apparently over 200 but it felt like there was 20 people max. And the retroactive exposition. Like suddenly introducing things 90 pages in that were supposed to be present since the very beginning.

"It crashes into the wall making Jack jump as high as the water in the river over the rocks in the waterfall in Spring right after the snow melts."

There is a certain beauty to how bad it is.

The world itself made absolutely no sense. How on earth was anything able to survive with enough seasons in a year to equal 8 years? Plants don't just grow overnight. Animals require gestation (which takes time) to have offspring. There's a reason why ecosystems are a thing and why they're fragile. It is literally impossible for the entire premise of this book to exist.

It really just felt like I was reading a first draft that had never been presented to an editor or beta-readers. It had potential to not be terrible, but unfortunately, it was terrible.

"He comes to me, quickly and slowly all at once."

The Characters

Honestly, Genesis is super bland. Like, extremely bland. And she is obsessed with Jack in the weirdest way. Like, thinking that his constant evasiveness is "adorable".

Jack is a creep with a lot of issues but I did appreciate the small degree of depth he brought.

Nathaniel, though, is apparently Jack's best friend even though he's consistently death glaring him, and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he had murdered Jack.

Azra was really the only character I genuinely liked! She should have been the main character. She actually has a personality.

Eustace was introduced more than halfway through as if I already knew who he was and then wasn't really ever explained.

Conclusion

Just read Maze Runner. It isn't good but at least it's coherent.

Yeahnah, I must confess my self disappointed in this book :(

I was ready for a fantasy Jack Frost story retelling, but turns out it's kinda more like a Maze Runner ripoff?? In the dystopian genre??

BUT WHY DOES THE TITLE SOUND SO FANTASY IF IT'S NOT?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

Also, there is a Jack in this story, but I feel like the Frost bit is kinda hmmmmmmmmmm

The romance was sweet... and so sO SO cringyyyyyyyyyyy
But I mean... At lease there was no love triangle ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And the main character was BLANDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!! Was not a fan... Also, the name Genesis threw me off. Not sure why, just felt really weird...

Plot was predictable...

BUT I did finish the book, so I guess some small part of me enjoyed it. I have about 10 Netgalley titles atm, and haven't been able to finish any, so finishing this was a big deal!

I REALLY WANTED TO LIKE THIS, Jack Frost is SO underdone, but it just didn't work for me D:

I tried reading this book but found the writing style just wasn't something I could enjoy and the overall plot was rather confusing. It is a shame as I was really looking forward to it.

So I had one main problem throughout the beginning of the book was the seasons; two days of Spring, a week of Summer, four days of Fall and a month of Winter. It literally makes no sense, even when you find out that they're basically in a snow globe where the weather is being controlled. Does it mean their years are only 2 months long? Or do they have multiple of each season in each normal year? IT MAKES NO SENSE!

Throughout the whole book the main character, Genesis gets on my nerves so much so that I almost stopped reading the book on more than one occasion. Yes girl, we get your boyfriend is super hot and you love him, but I'm so done with teenage girls being written this way in books. Actual real life girls need characters to look up to who are badass, not brainless girls swooning over guys 24/7. Secondly, even when she finds out that he has been lying to her practically her whole life, she only takes like three days to forgive him???

I have many questions that weren't answered in this book but my brain can only pull two out right now;
- What has gone on outside the globe? I mean okay this one is pretty obvious in a sense because we know there's war and blah blah blah, but what has actually happened outside to lead to this place happening?
- Why is everyone so blase when they find out Jack has been lying and going behind their backs controlling the weather all these years? If I had just found out something like that I'd go full physco on him.

It's safe to say I don't think I would recommend this to anyone, however if there was a sequel I would need to read it just to see if I got answers.

As a disclaimer, I did not finish this book so my review is based on the seven chapters that I did read.

When I first saw this book I was drawn in by the mention of Jack Frost. The synopsis promised me this high thrill, fast-paced action storyline. I was excited to start reading and for the first five pages, the book progressed well but then it all started to slide downhill.

This didn’t feel like a revised novel ready to be published. It felt like a first draft. There are a lot of technical errors and an overuse of the word ‘as’. Every bit of dialogue is punctured with a physical action or a speech action, for example; ‘he says grumbling', 'She replied innocently', 'She says as she...’ It went on and on. After the first few pages, I began to get really annoyed with the dialogue.

There is no real distinction between characters. They all feel the same and talk in the same manner. I’m not even sure what any of the character other then Jack looks like because they are never described to the reader. None of these other characters was memorable enough for me to even remember their names.

I have always been taught when adding characters to a story, they should never be too attractive or too good at everything and that is exactly what Jack and Gen are like - they are described as attractive, leaders, good with children, inventors, fast runners and more intelligent than anyone else. You name it and they can do. I couldn't connect with them because they were too perfect. They have no flaws.

The romantic relationship between Gen and Jack felt forced and unnatural. Their personalities blend together, feeling like the same person and their physical attraction for one another comes at inappropriate times like when they’re running for their lives. In the middle of a stakeout, they will stop and randomly start making out, an unrealistic feet when posed with the situation that they were in.

The actual leader of their group does no leading what so ever. Every decision is made by Gen and Jack. There needed to be more distinction between the characters.

Even though the storyline did progress at a steady pace and there are instances of action, I was deterred by the unrealistic relationships and bad dialogue. I wanted more, more of everything.

I wish I had have enjoyed this as the premise sounded amazing.

Alas the narrative was lacklustre and moved extremely slowly, at points I skipped whole chapters and still managed to be on top of the story.

I found myself failing to connect with any character involved. I also found that main love interest between Genesis and Jack felt very Stockholm Syndrome-esque for the majority of the novel.

While the novel had great potential, I felt it completely missed the mark

3.5 Stars

So this was an ok read for me. The plot was interesting but I didn’t really connect with the characters.

The plot was really well executed to me with some good plot twists and this was a really well-written novel. The main character is called Genesis. this is a world where the seasons last for a set amount of days. However the weather then starts to become unpredictable and they discover a tablet. Genesis then discovers that her boyfriend Jack is the one controlling the weather and they are inside a globe as an experiment as the outside world has become too dangerous. Therefore Jack has been lying to everyone including his girlfriend Genesis. When the weather machine breaks Jack , Genesis and the other characters travel to a mountain where Jack gets trapped and it is assumed he died trying to turn the weather machine off. However in the epilogue it is revealed that Jack is alive. There were a lot of characters in this book- sometimes I was confused about who was who. I really liked Genesis as a character however I would loved to have known more about her backstory like why her parents put her in the experiment. Personally I didn’t like Jack – I didn’t like that he lied to Genesis and everyone.
