Healers Need is book 2 in Rhenna Morgan’s Ancient Ink series. The story picks up where Guardians Bond “left off” in a sense but this is 100% a stand-alone novel.
* the world building in GB would be suggested to really showcase the depth of this novel

Tate meets his mate Elise (unbeknown to her) as Elise and h r mom move into a house on Priests protected land. The “want” is there for both of them from the beginning, they feel the pull

“Wanting something and being ready for it are two different things”

This installment has lots of plot, more character and world building, We go on Elise’s soul quest, and watch their love story unfold. It’s not without provocation and a game of cat and mouse. —> Tate wants but is afraid of the chase.

Like in guardians bond my favorite scene in healers need revolve around tattooing. We see a vulnerable side to Tate, and Elise has her strength on display. Though she may be inexperienced in the intimacy department, It pours out of Tate by the truckload.

Vanessa happily plays the Villan in this story, but the clan also hunts Draven into an epic finale!

This is a must read and I hope to get more in this series from Rhenna!

Healer’s Need by Rhenna Morgan is the second book in the Ancient Ink trilogy. This book is about finding yourself, being confident in who you are and doing what feels right.

Elise is hoping for a fresh start and to finally be able to put her past behind her. Elise's mother rejected her heritage and left clan life and as result, Elise grew up not knowing that side of herself. She is shy, sweet, and wary of strangers.

Tate knows how strong and important the bond between mates is but hopes he doesn’t find his other half until he gets better at controlling his basic animal urges. He has lived with his clan his whole life. He is an amazing tattoo artist, gorgeous, and fiercely protective of those he cares about.

Elise is pretty quickly thrust into a world she didn’t know existed when her life is put in danger. A threat against their clan means bringing everyone together and strengthening the wards. Immediately Tate feels the connection to Elise. Not wanting to frighten her, he decides to take things slowly and ease her into clan life. Secrets lie between them and a threat looms over all their heads. Can Elise and Tate find a balance for her skittish nature, their burning passions and the learning curve for what powers she has within to protect the clan?

This book is written in dual POV but in third person. It gives the reader a good sense of what is happening throughout the story line. The main characters go on a journey of self discovery that is beautiful to watch. They’re given a depth that adds a weight to their emotions. From their first touch, sparks fly. Their mating bond strengthens with each caress. The more time they spend together the more they need each other.

Tate trying to take things slow and get to know Elise just amps up the fire between them to a near boiling point. When they finally erupt it’s so well written you’re sucked in and taken for a ride. The pace is at times slow and occasionally I found it difficult to follow the side characters. It’s definitely worth a read and I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys watching someone grow into themselves.

ARC received for review

I read Ms. Morgan's Men of Haven series and loved it, so when I saw this one I requested it. And no I haven't read the first one.

I was a little lost at times since most of the back story appears to happen in book 1, but there was plenty of intrigue, chemistry, and family to keep this one interesting. Tate and Elise are mates, but only Tate knows that. I liked how he took his time and didn't force it on her, nor did he go caveman and tell her she had to mate him. [ I really appreciate that they captured the bad guy and he didn't elude capture until book 7 or 8. (hide spoiler)]

I look forward to future books in this series, and hopefully read the first one sometime when the price isn't over my self imposed e-book limit.

"Only wisdom learned through time allows us to change our responses. The pain of the past is what makes us who we are."

Confession, I don't read paranormal. Well, at least I didn't until I fell in love with the work of an amazing author and followed her mystic side to the world of Ancient Ink. What can I say, she blew my mind with her Men of Haven, and I wanted more of her wonderful word wizardry. Now, I'm a believer....sigh. ♥

Tate is a tattoo artist by day and sometimes a coyote by night. Since learning that Elise is his mate he prowls the perimeter, keeping her safe, and keeping himself sane. His lust and need for her are out of control and shifting lets him run off the excess energy while he waits for her to learn about her heritage and her gifts. His patience is running out and his desire to fulfill his fantasies in the flesh is only getting stronger. His possessiveness is not something he's able to hide though. His clan finds it very amusing to watch him suffer and purposely poke his beast, urging him to claim her.

Holy Hotness Batman! I almost burst into flames reading this story. The inner companions of the many amazing characters that purred, swished, fluffed and growled only added to the heat level, amping up the sexual tension. I loved every second of learning about the clan and their magical gifts. I wouldn't mind having one of those 'special' tattoos. I couldn't tear myself away. The darkness and suspense were riveting also. I really enjoyed the journey as they stalked their stalker, glad that I was on the safe side of my Kindle. I'll not be so reluctant to explore the PNR world in future. The line forms here...

Wow, what a beautifully written story filled with so much depth and emotion. I never anticipated feeling such a connection to these characters.

I enjoyed Elise’s journey from vulnerable and innocent to fully capable and confident. Even as she experienced her soul quest I cried at the pain, the beauty, the healing that comes from choosing to let go of the past and embrace a different way. How one decision can change the outcome in so many ways. It moved me in a way I would have never expected.

Tate was the epitome of an alpha male hero. His sole focus was always on Elise. He exhibited all the alpha traits of jealousy, though there was really no reason to be jealous except if someone happened to look at Elise, possessiveness and overall protectiveness…even from his base desires. And yet that too gave me an opportunity to witness Elise’s transformation as she proves to him she is his perfect mate in every way.

The pacing here is slower, the story all the richer for it. The chemistry between the hero and heroine perfectly perfect causing the heat level to reach volcanic proportions. I loved that despite their intense desire, this couple did not fast forward into consummating their relationship. There really wasn’t much drama here, despite the background this clan has and the danger lurking, and this story is centered mostly on Elise and with her, Tate.

It’s been some time since I read the first book, Guardian’s Bond, and with the slew of books I’ve read between then and now I simply could not remember all the details of the events that led to the opening of this story. That caused a bit of trouble for me and leads me to advice readers to read the first book of the series prior to this one.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Carina Press. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Healer's Need is the second book in the Ancient Ink series and I would suggest reading book one first. You learn everything you need to know about the clans and their history. This also picks up right where it left off in book 1.

In Healer's Need we get Elise and Tate's story. Well, it felt more like Elise's story with Tate guiding her along. Tate realizes in the beginning that there is a past trauma that Elise guards herself from which has him taking things very slowly with her.

As we learned in book two, the males recognize their mates in an instant but the women do not. Its a great mix of instant love and a slow burn love. It's instant for the male but he has to gain the love and trust from their mates to form the mate bond.

While Tate is taking things slow, it in no way means there is lack of heat for these two. In fact, I feel like the heat was on high because Tate had to constantly restrain himself. It was pretty hot.

I also really like how Tate supported her completely. When you have a heroine that has some insecurities, there is nothing better than a hero who will do anything to protect her and bring her out of her shell.

I was a bit surprised with the ending, which I won't talk about and spoil. It just makes me really curious where the author is taking this series next. I'm not even sure who will be the next couple. I like that we are left with no hints and look forward to the next installment. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Tate has known that Elise was his mate for a few weeks, although you'd never know it. He has been avoiding her. He tells himself it's been to allow her time to settle into her new life but it's more that he's not quite ready to admit she is his mate tom himself! That doesn't stop him looking out for her from a distance. But when push comes to shove, Tate recognises that Fate doesn't wait for you to be ready, you get your mate when it's time.

Elise is new to the world of magic and shifters. Her mother never accepted her gifts and she thought her mum had flown off the deep end when she explained the new reality she has landed in. But even when she sees things with her own eyes, it is still a lot to process.

Tate is one crabbit shifter when he doesn't get his own way! The banter between himself, Jade and Priest is totally believable. Taking the nick out of one another as only family can.

Elise is learning what her magic can o and her place in her new world, all whilst trying to evade Priest's brother and dodge the future he has set out for her. I loved the extended family feel of the pack and their inclusive nature of all beings, not just shifters.

Can't wait for the next one. Word to the wise - definitely read them in order!

Just give me one second, I'm recovering from a swoon...

Wow, did I enjoy this book! I loved the hero so much, I'm not sure I'll be able to put in into terms that will adequately express my feelings. Given the culture of the Volan, the amount of stress on the hero and heroine was massive, and they still took things slow in order to get to know each other. I loved how considerate they both were towards each other, and it gave me butterflies each time they took a step further towards a completed bond in their relationship.

Tate has known Elise is his for weeks, but given her lack of knowledge surrounding her heritage, he has waited patiently for her to become used to the idea before he makes his intentions known. Now he is done waiting. Elise has been very aware of Tate ever since she joined the Volan community and learned of her potential as a prima healer. But she assumes he's not interested, since he seems to avoid being in her presence or have much to do with her at all. When he suddenly comes between her and another male at a party, she realizes that it has never been about a lack of interest at all. She has a mate, and he is ready to claim her.

Tate was a very compassionate hero, and I loved how protective he was of Elise. His personality was very alpha male, but he kept it in check for the sake of Elise and her wellbeing. He understood that he had to be patient with her, and I was so happy that he courted her before pushing her toward a relationship. Elise was sweet and shy, but at the same time, she quickly felt very possessive of Tate. She didn't realize why at first, but as time went on, their bond became strong enough that she couldn't ignore it any longer. Her relationship with Tate was borne from instinct, but they also shared a mutual respect of each other. That kind of love is what I would aspire to in real life, and I loved how their love bloomed as the story progressed. Tate and Elise were one of my favorite couples for this year, absolutely, and I was so happy with how everything turned out.

I loved the first book in this series, and this one continued that trend! I can't wait to read the next book and see where things go from here.

AS much as I liked the first book in the series, I enjoyed this second one more. I very much like the world-building, strong characters, and interesting storyline. I will be definitely be keeping my eye out for the next book.

I absolutely love the Ancient series and could not get enough of this story. There was passion, love, an element of danger and true love. Bravo! 4 stars!

While some series claim that the books can be read as standalones, I would definitely recommend reading the Ancient Ink books in order. This will ensure that the reader fully understands the intricate world building and idiosyncrasies of the unique society of shifters.

HEALER’S NEED is the second book in the series and Tate and Elise take an interesting journey to finding their eventual HEA. While there is always an element of danger and mayhem when evil is at play, this is a fabulous story of two people destined to be together, but also trying to maintain some semblance of individuality too. I really enjoyed account of Elise’s personal growth, and realising that the love of a committed mate would only enhanced her inner strength. Tate is a true warrior, but his tender heart allows him to support his mate through good and bad.

Another great story that is complex, but all consuming, with action, emotion and a connection so intense it simply can’t be denied. Ms Morgan has the ability to capture the reader’s attention and hold it throughout the entire book. I can’t wait for what comes next!

This book is amazing. I loved book one and of course I had to read book 2. I'm so glad I got a chance to read this book. This book is the second in the seies but features a different couple. Tate Allen and Elise Ralston are amazing and I really hope there's a third bok.

What I liked most about this book was how Tate gave Elise time and how he took the time to explain why he it seemed like he was holding back at times to Elise. It allowed Elise to keep getting acclimated to their world and give her time to see that Tate was really interested in her. As things progressed it was great to see Elise get more confident, in her relationship with Tate, with her powers and her animals and most importantly with others in their group. I especially liked how Elise dealt with a bully within the clan that picked on Elise, especially at the end when the gantlet was thrown down.

In the larger story arc things went well for the group. They finally seemed to get one over on the big bad and what looked to be a devastating price to be paid, wasn't at all.

A sexy read with a number of hope-filled messages. I enjoyed Elise’s journey, especially watching her and Tate grow together. He is yummy and absolutely delicious. Great chemistry.
It was interesting to see an opponent be turned into an ally like Elise did with Vanessa. I imagine after seeing her grow in this book we will see her in the future.
SPOILER WARNING
The battle with Draven felt a little rushed. He’d been set up as this uber-villain in book one and this one, so have him be captured with the Keeper and a few words from a novice healer didn’t match the setup.
Still, another great read that left me intrigued by the world the author has created. I look forward to more.

Okay, WOW! I was hesitant to start this one, only because I accidently seen a few reviews say that they didn't enjoy this much, probably because they hadn't read the first one or maybe they have. I dunno I am not one for spoilers, UNLESS I am looking for them!
I kind of don't like when you hear about a book you are going to read get talked about. BUT I am happy to say I really, like really enjoyed this story.

I really enjoyed this book a lot, I am super happy it picks up right from the first one too, I really like this authors new paranormal world.

Tate and Elise, damn! what a smoking hot couple. They were seriously a delight to watch, grow and fall in love. I felt there attraction was real, I loved how Tate was with her, especially because she is a virgin in all aspects, but when she got her feet under her she gave it right back to him.

Great characters from the previous book, and the over all story arc rolling into this one, I want to talk about the ending but I cant because of spoilers, but do we think that this is the end?

What I really loved is that in paranormal romance you don't see this kind of of twist in shifter, clans with mates and magic and everything that this author gives us. I love that this is so unique and she writes strong women, and characters they you are invested in. does not hurt that her alpha mean are crazy in love with there mates when they find them!

I really hoping that we get a few more stories in this world, with Jade and Alek finding there mates too!

Healers Need by Rhenna Morgan is book Two in the Ancient Ink Series. This is the story of Tate Allen and Elise Ralston. These two did meet in the first book 'Guardian's Bond' but nothing progressed in their story other than Tate getting the feeling that Elise is his mate. This book opens us up to Tate going forward to start to claim Elise. The group is still fighting the danger that is threatening them and Elise coming to terms with what she is going to be and with Tate.
I am so in love with this series and this author's writing. I just can't wait for more books in this series to come out....love it!

From the moment of their first meeting Tate knows that Kate is his mate. Kate knows nothing about the world Tate comes from and he doesn't want to scare her away so he maintains a distance. Patience pays off in the end because Kate becomes secure in the role she will play as the Healer's Prima. This story captures you from the very beginning and holds you until the last page.

Firstly I should say that I read this book without having read the first installment of the series, but I was able to catch up and follow the story easily.
Obviously if you've read the first book, you'll understand those references I couldn't, but it didn't take away from this story for me.
I enjoyed this one for the most part, it met several of my must have criteria points. Intriguing characters, drama and action, a mix of paranormal abilities and shifters.
Shifter based pnr stories are one of my favourites and this one did manage to surprise me with a different take on the ability to shift. Having never read this idea in other books (and I've read ALOT of shifter based books) I was intrigued and impressed.
I have to say that it did take me a while to feel comfortable with the main characters Tate and Elise. Tate is an alpha, male shifter desperate to claim his mate but holding back because of the whole "she's too innocent to deal with me" bit is tiring to me. It doesn't fit with the animal side of a shifters nature so it didn't feel believable to me.
Elise as the virginal, completely innocent female meeting well experienced male irritated me, this viewpoint is overused in romance stories and it disappointed me that this story went that way. This is the reason for my 3 star rating.
Thankfully Tate and Elise did improve later on in the book and I did come to like them, I just wish it hadn't taken them so long to get to that point.
Now I have to read the first book to find out what I've missed and yes I would continue reading if this is to be a series.
I'd recommend this book to fans of slowburn paranormal romance stories.
