This is a really great book and I really enjoyed it. This is Jamie and Kat's story and I was pulled in right from the first couple of chapters, I adored Jamie he is a fantastic character and is absolutely determined to prove to Kat that they are meant to be together. A super read and a great start to the series I am looking forward to reading more.

This was a great book and I so thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were wonderful. As this was an ARC, there were a few typos that I hope were caught before publishing.

This book was written in my favorite dual POV. That really helped here as I felt there was another book(s) with the beginnings of Jamie's and Kat's relationship. But the author did a great job in filling in the reader so I don't feel like I NEED to read them but as I enjoyed this book so much, I would LOVE to read them though.

This book had just enough angst to keep the reader interested and cheering the characters on. I hope there are more books for the secondary characters coming. The Valentine girls and the McKendrick men would be wonderful.

I highly recommend this book to anyone.

The beginning of this romantic tale picks up where we immediately have some catching up to do to do, folks. But not to worry. The author uses inner monologues filled with sadness and regret and main couple conversations to quickly bring us up to date.

Oh, great Scot, I’ve always had a verra sweet spot for a handsome Scottish lad who goes after his girl, even after she’s up and left him. Jamie, the hero, did not disappoint. He a patient man with a mission, and he won’t be swayed. Time and unfortunate events got between them before, but he just can’t let Kat go without putting all his cards on the table and his heart and life on the line.

This was a clean, fade to black, passionate kisses only, non-descriptive implied sex scenes kind of romantic read. You feel their emotions, but they keep their private parts and intimate smexy moments to themselves.

These two lovebirds do get things worked out, but not before an insecure, hand wringing heroine is revealed. Kat seemed to morph into someone I didn’t recognize. Jamie was a saint for how far he was willing to go to win her back. She was a lucky lass he never gave up on her, especially considering how insecure she felt about herself.

Overall, I enjoyed their reunion but found the inner circle of constantly interrupting family sub-characters rather distracting, especially their lengthy, inconsequential conversations. The conclusion felt rather lackluster and predictable, as well. Not a whole lot happens in this one, folks.

Sweet, manly Jamie would be the main reason I’d recommend this book. Kat kind of got on my nerves near the end with her “I’m likely not good enough for him” mantra. It didn’t make a lot of sense knowing the reason she originally left him was she felt she deserved better.

Title: The Scot’s Montana Bride, Series: The Scot’s Take Montana (Book 1), Author: Jessica Gilmore, Pages: 151, stand-alone but part of a series, clean romance, no cheating, no love triangle, no OW/OM drama, stayed celibate during separation, relationship angst.

Kat and Jamie got married after a whirlwind romance while Kat was in Scotland. Then a couple of not so great things happen and instead of leaning on each other the drift apart. Kat returns to her family's ranch in Montana. Jamie shows up in Montana looking for his bride. Can a love found so quickly be saved? Can Jamie find a way to win back Kat's heart? Sometimes to really get a second chance you have to risk it all. What is there not to like in this story line? There is a Scotsman, a kilt and a case of love at first sight. Perfect summer read.

Oh Swoon! This story has alł the feels as ever so slightly estranged husband and wife Jamie McKendrick and Kat Valentine rediscover the love that brought them together in the first place. Add in a kilt here and there, some cowboy boots and the gorgeous Montana countryside and The Scot’s Montana Bride appeals on any number of levels.
I absolutely adored Jamie - capable on so many levels both as a businessman and as a cowboy, and so determined to prove to Kat that they belonged together. With the patience of a saint he put up with one attempt after another to push him away while at the same time breaking down Kat’s resistance and making him fall in love with him all over again.
The love scenes between these two are sensuous and deeply emotional. Beautifully written, they create all sorts of wonderful imagery while also fully showing the love that is so clearly there between Kat and Jamie. I read in bed until my iPad came crashing down on my nose, a sure sign that I needed to sleep, and started reading again as soon as I woke up. I absolutely loved this story.

This was a moving and emotional story with chemistry that nearly succumb to heartbreak and outside influences and was destroyed. The characters were well defined with very distinctive personalities...It was easy to imagine both Jamie and Kat together as a couple with Jamie’s proud heritage and lilting brogue, and Kat with her fierce spirit.

I truly hope that Ms Gilmore has plans for a series involving the Valentine family...I’d be first in line to read the stories.

2.5 Stars

After a couple days of debate, I’ve decided to stick with my initial rating of 2.5 stars.

I really wanted to like The Scot’s Montana Bride. The story of Kat and Jamie is cute, but also short and sweet. The problem, I believe, lies in the “short” part.

Kat and Jamie meet while both are on vacation in New Zealand. After a brief, but passionate, holiday fling they go their separate ways. But then Kat decides to take a detour on her travels to Jamie’s home country of Scotland. When she runs into him again, they can’t help but feel fate has brought them together. In a rare moment of spontaneity, they decide to get married.

However, both are tied tightly to their family’s land. Jamie, who grew up expecting to be laird of his Scottish home (but no longer is), still has an integral part of running the land his family owns. Kat, whose family has a ranch in Montana, has always planned to run the ranch when her parents retired. Their love for the land they grew up on is something Kat and Jamie share, but it also puts them at odds. When a heartbreaking event causes tension between them, Kat heads home to Montana, leaving only a note behind for Jamie.

Jamie isn’t deterred, though. It takes him awhile, but after getting his affairs in order, he takes off for Montana, doing whatever it takes, to win back the love of his life. It’s a sweet and heartwarming gesture.

At least it should have been.

Instead, it fell flat for me. And after much thought, here’s why I think it did…

The book starts out after Kat has been back home in Montana for two months. We get bits and pieces of Kat and Jamie before things fell apart. But not much. In order for me to be heartbroken - and then happy - for the couple, I need to see how strong their love was up until they hit their rough patch. Just a couple sentences here or there isn’t gonna hack it.

The other thing I had an issue with about this book, is some of the phrases the author had the characters use. I don’t know why I’m a stickler for things like this, but if you’re going to make your characters be American, and have the story take place in Montana, having them use British terms completely takes me out of the story. Here in the US we go on vacation, not holiday. We stand in a line, not a que. Had these words been spoken by the Scottish character, that would have been fine - because those are words he would actually use. (By the way, it would have bothered me if the hero had said they met on vacation, or someone was standing in a line...it works both ways for me!) To the extent that an author can be authentic with characters, I think they should be, and how they speak isn’t a difficult thing to master.

Overall, this was a sweet story. But not much interesting or exciting happened. I wanted to feel longing, I wanted to feel despair, I wanted to feel happy they found their way back together. Instead, it was just a pleasant, quick read. At around 150 pages, there was plenty of room for additional story. This felt like a good start, but I would have liked more.

Despite being less than wowwed by this story, I'm curious to see where else this series goes. I do love a man who call his lady "lass"! 😉

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

This book was such an emotional story as Kat left her husband and went back home. When weeks later Jamie shows up, he surprises Kat.

They finally spend most of their time together getting to understand each other as the reason behind their past actions.

It was intriguing to see their long, path to recovering their love and learning to communicate better!

Hope that we see more of this family!!

I gave up, I was bored.

When Kat Valentine bumps into the holiday romance she can't forget, Jamie McKendrick, halfway across the world, she knows the sexy and fiery Scot is her destiny. Impulsively, they get married, but when tragedy strikes the newlyweds, they question if they know each other at all. Fliss returns home to run her family’s ranch feeling older, wiser, and determined to give up on love.

Jamie McKendrick is still reeling from discovering a secret that has destroyed his family. The only thing he’s certain of is that he’s not ready to give up on his wife or their marriage. He heads to Marietta to convince Fliss that the vows they made are vows worth keeping. He’s not going to let his Montana cowgirl ride off into the sunset alone.

The Scot’s Montana Bride is Book number one in the Scots Take Montana series by Jessica Gilmore. This is Kat Valentine and Jamie McKendrick’s story.

This is a sweet and heartwarming romance. I enjoyed Kat and Jamie’s characters. Here were times I wanted to shake some sense into Kat. A story of two people whose romance blossomed fast. The two grew apart after suffering a loss. Is it too late for Kat and Jamie to have a second chance at love?

Another great story about Marietta, Montana. I reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

The Scot's Montana Bride by Jessica Gilmore has secrets, family disappointments and two star-crossed lovers who have insecurities and different backgrounds. It will take more than instant attraction and superficial love for James McKendrick and Kat Valentine to keep their marriage intact.

I really liked the new life that this book brings to the Marietta stories. It seems like a book has been written about everyone who lives in this fictional town, so I loved the direction that this story took. The characters are fascinating, the story-line interesting and the town, well, it is Marietta, Montana after all. Great start to hopefully a new series. I say, bring on the Scots!

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Scot’s Montana Bride is and enduring story of determination and of love.
Can the hasty marriage of two people of seemingly polar lifestyles really work out? Throw grief, isolation and insecurity into the mix and for Kat Valentine and Jamie McKendrick, it spells the end. Maybe. Jamie may have a home in Scotland but his heart’s home is with Kat, wherever she is. He is determined to face his part in her departure from his homeland and help her to see, to feel, and to know his home is wherever she is.

The Scot’s Montana Bride showcases the passionate romance of Kat and Jamie, two people from different parts of the world who marry after a rather whirlwind holiday romance only to almost immediately face personal tragedy and issues that tear them apart. I liked the story, yet I didn’t find myself engaging or connecting with this couple and it took me a bit to understand why. I didn’t get the chance to experience that passion that I’m told about since we begin this story with Kat back home in America on her family’s ranch just outside of Marietta, Montana … and Jamie has been left back in Scotland at his family castle dealing with family issues.

Kat’s grandfather has suffered a massive heart attack and that gave her the reason she needed to just go home, to no longer fight for her marriage. She left with only a note, so that when Jamie appears at the ranch looking to salvage his marriage to the woman he loves they are so estranged by events that I had no real feeling of a couple in love, at that time. We slowly learn of the events that have happened and while heartbreaking and maddening they happened off page so again, I wasn’t connecting as much as I would have liked to. Eventually I got a better sense of what drew this couple together to begin with, but by that time the chance for making a connection to Kat and Jamie was lost for me.

There is world building and the introduction of Kat’s immediate family, as well as mention of Jamie’s family back in Scotland. All will factor into the rest of the series. The Scot’s Montana Bride is a good story, simply one that I had difficulty connecting with the main characters. I’ll continue with the series, my curiosity is engaged enough to want to know what happens with the secondary characters.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

The Scot’s Montana Bride by Jessica Gilmore
When Kat Valentine bumps into the holiday romance she can’t forget, Jamie McKendrick, halfway across the world, she knows the sexy and fiery Scot is her destiny. Impulsively, they get married, but when tragedy strikes the newlyweds, they question if they know each other at all. Kat returns home to run her family’s ranch feeling older, wiser and determined to give up on love.
Jamie McKendrick is still reeling from discovering a secret that has destroyed his family. The only thing he’s certain of is that he’s not ready to give up on his wife or their marriage. He heads to Marietta to convince Kat that the vows they made are vows worth keeping. He’s not going to let his Montana cowgirl ride off into the sunset alone.
This is Kat Valentine and Jamie McKendrick's story.
Kat Valentine leaned on the wooden corral fence, gazing across the valley. Sometimes when she stood in this spot, with nothing but Valentine land between her and the mountains, she could imagine Mountain View just as it had been in her great-great grandfather’s day, back when he laid the foundations of his simple wooden homestead cabin on this shelf in the foothills of the magnificent Montana mountains. The landscape was timeless, unchanging.
Oh, some things had moved on. That humble homestead cabin was now a three-story house, more than big enough to absorb three generations of Valentines. The land was no longer worked by just one man, those first few heads of cattle had multiplied by hundreds—joined by hardy sheep a generation or so ago—and the fields they didn’t use for pasture were sewn with hay, wheat, barley, peas, and lentils. The stables, although still full of some of the best horses money could buy, also held trail bikes and Jeeps so the ranchers could get from one side of the ranch to the other in a fraction of the time a horse would take.
Unchanging and yet ever-changing. Kat blew out a frustrated sigh, her eyes pinned on the majestic mountaintops ringing the valley.
“Hi.” The deep burr of his voice vibrated through her and her chest tightened at the sound, every nerve ending tingling at the achingly familiar Scottish accent. “Fancy seeing you here.” He turned slowly. “So this is Mountain View? I have to hand it to you, Kat. It’s as beautiful as you said.”
“Kat? Do you know this man?” The confusion in her father’s voice shattered the spell the Scot always cast on her and panic shot through her, reality hitting home hot and sudden. She blinked, not knowing how to answer. The truth was here, was catching up with her, and all she wanted to do was run and hide in the stables, just as she had when she was a little girl and life seemed harder than she knew how to navigate.
She leaned closer to her father, away from the Scot, as if she could put the ocean back in place between them. Green eyes flared hot, just for a moment, before the old easy expression slid over his face. “Dad, this is James McKendrick. Jamie, this is my father, Tom Valentine.”
Jamie’s smile was polite and friendly, as if this was just another social occasion. “Nice to meet you, sir. I’ve heard a lot about you.
Kat couldn’t watch the two men size each other up, focusing on her booted feet as her father responded. “All lies, I’m sure. So, you’re a friend of Kat’s? Nice of you to come by and look her up.”Kat concentrated hard on her boots, powerless to stop the words she knew would come next, the quick glance Jamie shot her burning straight through her thin cotton shirt. “I wouldn’t say we were exactly friends. Would you, Kat?” She raised her head at the cutting tone, and saw his mouth tighten the moment he noted her bare left hand. “And I didn’t come here to look her up. I came here to retrieve my wife.”
I highly recommend reading.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed the story, it had lots of different twists. We meet Kat Valentine who has returned to her family’s ranch after her grandfather suffers a heart attack. Kat had been traveling the world and met Jamie McKendrick also working in Australia and then New Zealand. They had a holiday Romance and then Kat wound up pregnant. They married and moved to Jamie’s family castle home in Scotland. Jamie had found out that he wasn’t the first born son after all and his world was thrown upside down.Kat was unhappy at the family home and she suffered a miscarriage and both were devastated. After feeling neglected she returned to Montana, only leaving a note. She didn’t answer Jamie’s calls. Once he had resolved some of the issues with the new found heir, he comes to Montana to fight for Kat. The book tells us about all that transpires when he shows up. A terrific 5 stars.

Jamie is the Scot and Kat is his Montana bride. Jamie first set eyes on Kat in Australia, but they didn’t have the opportunity to meet. Two later fortuitous meetings made it seem as if they were fated to be a couple. However, an impetuous wedding and heartbreaking miscarriage made Kat question their relationship. She left him in Scotland, returning to Montana when her grandfather was hospitalized. Jamie gave her a little time to lick her wounds before joining her on her family’s ranch. Jamie’s persistence and a little help from her family finally convinced Kat that she and Jamie belonged together. A strong back story involving both sides of their family leads me to think that this may be the first book in a series. I do have one pet peeve. For a story set in the United States, a lot of phrasing and word usage issues made it clear that Americanized English is not her forte. I would suggest editing out those issues before publication.

Kat has come back to Montana, after traveling the world. Little does her family know her secret, until her husband shows up. A fun and loud Scotsman, who just wants her back. Love the banter between the two, and truly enjoyed this story. A different twist with him being the out of towner, but I liked it. Highly recommend this story and author. If you've read others in the Marietta, MT series you will like this one.

Awesome book! I had the pleasure of reading an ARC of this wonderful book.
They seen each other in passing, there was a spark of interest, they finally met. Sparks flew, romance was quick, they married, an unplanned pregnancy ended in tragedy. Jamie threw himself into saving the family inheritance, Kat was called home due to family illness. Calls went unanswered, Kat doubted their marriage. Unannounced Jamie shows up! Many questions are asked and a vow renewal is planned. Will it work? An accident forces Kat to accept his help running the ranch. Just when everything is going well, Jamie has to go back to Scotland. Will this be the end? Can they make it work....

When I was younger, so much younger than today... I used to lap up Mills and Boon ‘novels’. The women on the estate I spent much of my formative years in , couldn’t get enough of the escapist romantic guff... times were hard in Glasgow the 70’s.! This took me right back there .
A world we’re a hero can’t just be Jimmy the joiner, he has to be Jamie the second son of a highland laird.
Dear heavens! Small mercy.. there was no Gaelic!
Nice peaceful escapist drivel. I didn’t hate it.. but I doubt I’ll remember any of it by tomorrow .
