What a wonderful surprise this book was! I received a copy from NetGalley and the publisher, drawn in by a stellar cover. This story moves along in a wonderful flow, settings transport, and I loved the characters’ development and voices. Such a lovely read! This is the kind of book that you hang onto for a future re-read.

It reminded me a lot of The Selection series so had a fairly predictable plot line, but that didn't stop me thoroughly enjoying this book!! I did like the twist with the Aladdin retelling and I thought it was clever how there are also links for some of the other Disney princesses in there. And I've already downloaded the next 2 in the series, looking forward to seeing where it goes next!!

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

This review isn't going to be long. I'm not a huge fan of a review rehashing the entire plot and spoiling it for everyone.

I had a little trouble getting into this book. Once I got to chapter 3/4 I really started to enjoyed it. I enjoyed it so much I purchaed the next book in the series.

Thief of Cahraman was one of the most creative fairy tale retellings I have ever read so far! I adored Adelaide! She was a strong protagonist. The rest of the characters were well-developed. There were a few things that I didn’t like about this book. The world-building was very confusing and needed more explanation. Also, I thought it should have ended better. Nevertheless, I’m excited to read the next two books in this trilogy to find out what happens to Adelaide. This is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Mass, Naomi Novik, and Marissa Meyer.

3.5/5 stars

Very engaging and I adored the focus and development of side characters, particularly Cora who was a real standout. My favourite scene was Ada saving Cherine on the cliff, it was very thrilling. I loved that Ada had practical skills and went out and fought for what she wanted without sitting by like the typical YA heroine. The only thing was I thought the Cyrus reveal was a little too obvious so it took away from the big plot reveal at the end but I still love Cyrus.

The best element of the story is definitely the complex female characters who show both good and bad qualities and do not need a man to complete their personalities. It's refreshing to see women portrayed in their many dimensions, as displayed in life. However, I did not feel a strong connection to Bonnie and her father as they were barely in the book so I didn't really care much about their disappearance which made it hard to connect and empathise with Ada's purpose. The pacing was also a little slow at times but this was somewhat redeemed by the interesting challenges that Ada refreshingly did not always have amazing talents to win which made it much more relatable.

A good start that definitely makes me want to continue the series but just didn't have the gripping element that keeps me hooked from page to page. Will continue this series and am excited to see what develops with the secondary characters, especially Cora!

ARC received in exchange for an honest opinion

Yaaaaay! This book was such a fun ride. You follow a young girl who is trying to turn her life around from her thieving days but gets drawn into a world where she has to win a very different kind of tournament.

This book is such a wonderful fairytale, it seems to be some sort of Aladdin retelling, but with a new refreshing twist.

Ada is such a fun clever character and Cyrus is Bae. They had all the chemistry lab experiments woven into their storyline and I just loved it.

My only real complaint and the reason the book only got 4 out of five stars and not the whole enchilada, is because I did feel at times that the dialogue and thoughts were quite modern and it did make me have to remember what kind of era this would have been set in. Also, the whole twist about the prince was very obvious, but then again I have read this type of story many a time. But this was still a great tread and I can't wait to see where things are going =)

I am not a big fan on YA books.
Saying that - I would recommend this book for a simply reason. Good writing and plot. I will continue to read following books because the first one was a good read. This book is based on a famous fairy tale Aladdin, but it has a sweet twist in it!

When I read the description of this book I was so excited because I love Aladdin and I love retellings. When I first started this book I thought it was a bit slow, but after few chapters in it picked up quite well. I ended up LOVING this book. This is Aladdin with a new twist and it's got an amazing ending that left me wanting the sequel RIGHT NOW. It was a quick read and I can't wait for the sequel to come out soon.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. This book was a lot better than I heard. The characters and the storyline is very well written. Adelaide is a thief who has been living on the run and she is taken by a witch and forced into an impossible task. She is doing this to protect her new family and she has to put everything on the line including her life. She is in love with a fellow thief. She is competing in a contest to become the future queen. Her world is turned upside down when the mysterious prince makes himself known. Want to know what happened you are going to have to read it. It is great.

I am so hooked on these books! I can't wait to read the next ones in this series. So well written and such a great twist on an old tale. Lucy Tempest is definitely onto something with this series. The covers are gorgeous and this story was so well developed! All the characters add something to the story. You will just keep reading from beginning to end in one sitting because it is that good.

Adelaide has gone from town to town and has made a living stealing things. Her mother died when she was young and she has no other family so now she continues to wander from place to place. Adelaide has found somewhat of a family that has taken her in, but when a witch tells her that she has to steal a certain thing from the Prince in order for them not to be sold to the beast forever, she has no idea how she is going to accomplish this. Her way into the Prince's castle is to be one of the fifty girls that "tries out" to be the Queen of Cahraman.

With Adelaide being so far from a princess or knowing anything about how to act like one, trying out for the spot of the Queen is going to be a task that she has no idea if she is able to accomplish. When the girls that are cut are announced, Adelaide is never on the list. How in the world is she able to make the cut to keep going? Adelaide has to figure out how to find the one item the witch wants, but with guards and eyes watching her every move, will she ever be able to sneak away and get what she needs to save her new found family? Will Cyrus be able to help her in time? How does Cyrus know so much about everything pertaining to the castle?

You will fall in love with Adelaide and root for her immediately. In some places you will be holding your breath to find out if Adelaide succeeds with her "try outs" and with accomplishing the heist that she needs to. I can't wait to read the next books in this series to find out what ends up happening with Adelaide. Very well done Lucy Tempest! These are very unique stories that hook you immediately!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advanced copy of this book.

Thief of Cahraman is a fairy tale retelling with a bit of a twist. Ada has been a thief all her life and is happy to leave that life behind. She's settled in a town and has made friends with Ella and Bonnie (other fairytale retellings). Unfortunately she is kidnapped and blackmailed by a witch who wants a golden lamp returned to her. Sound familiar? Here comes the fun twist. She's thrown into a competition ala The Selection and has to keep winning every week to extend her time to search for the lamp.

The author is a master at weaving the story and creating the land they are living in. The characters are all very three dimensional and she keeps the reader guessing with mini mysteries and upsets over the course of the story. Ada is a very strong, practical and loveable heroine in this story. And the prince? He seems to be absent throughout the whole story. Not to say she may or may not get help from another street rat she caught stealing from the treasure vault.

I'd say if you are a fan of fantasy, fairytale, Aladdin or a combination of all three, run don't walk and pick up this book.

I received this book from netgally and gave a fair and honest opinion.

Raise your hand if you think it would have been cool for America from The Selection series to have been a BA thief. Is your hand raised? Then this book is for you. I am not trying to say that this book is EXACTLY like The Selection, I wouldn't have given it 4 stars if that were the case. It did feel like a mashup of The Selection and the TV show Once Upon A Time- in that the parallels between a lot of your favorite stories are evident. I won't spoil any of that for you other than to say I really enjoyed discovering who everyone was.

I gave this book 4 stars for a lot of reasons, but I was also compelled to give it 3 (aren't I always). The beginning of the book was a bit tough to get through. A good analogy would be a rubbery steak-all the flavor was there, but chewing it gave my jaw a workout. As far as spelling and grammatical errors go, Tempest is pretty solid. There were a couple, but nothing so glaring that I had to put the book down. She does have that going for her. However, her sentences are long and can bog down pacing. That, paired with all the names being thrown at you in the beginning could have been grounds for a DNF in my book. There were also a few logical fallacies at the hands of flowery prose.

I did not DNF this book, though. In fact, once the story really started moving, I was all in. There were compelling reasons to keep going, the biggest being the MC, Ada. Like other reviewers, I probably wouldn't call this an Aladdin retelling so much as inspired. Our MC has been a thief most of her life for survival purposes and now that skill is being used by someone powerful (NO SPOILERS!). The landscape changes throughout the book so you get a look at what seems to be a good chunk of the Folkshore-it is very diverse in climate.

Finally, this book is pretty tropey. For me, this isn't a problem. Send me all of the tropes, I live for them. If you are open to that, among all of the other things I have mentioned, I think you will really enjoy this book. It was a fun read.

Ok so I clicked on this book solely because that cover caught my eye and after I read the synopsis Selection meets Alladin I was hooked. I love a good retelling and this one was so good cuz this was based on Alladin and I’ve not read or heard of an Alladin retelling our there.
The story revolves around Ada who’s a smart, strong and likeable heroine and so easy to root for. She’s not there to marry the prince but to try and save the people she’s grown to love and care for. She’s against some really tough competition and yet she tries to see the the good in everyone. There are also a few other female characters whose stories resemble other fairytales and I’m so excited to read about them in the coming books.
Lucy tempest has a way with words and the imagery she creates brings this story to life.
This was an amazing story, full of intrigue and lots of twists and turns that will make you keep wanting more. I can’t wait to return to Folkshore after that cliffhanger and see where Ada & her friends are upto. Can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I’d highly recommend this for people who are fans of The Selection and Fairytale retellings.

I really enjoyed this and I always know I did when I go straight to buy the sequel as I need to know what happens next. The start was a little slow , but I’m glad I stick with it. A retelling of Aladdin and the characters are likeable even some you think you won’t like grow on you, once you get past the beginning the pace really picks up and you don’t want to put it down. Looking forward to the next books.

I loved it! So easy to get into. Although why does it have to end with a cliffhanger? ANYWAY. I enjoyed reading it. Fast paced and well-written!

I adored this book! I honestly wasn’t sure if I would or not, because romance isn’t what I usually read, but this one blew me out of the water.

It’s not strictly romance either, and it’s perfect for people who like action/adventure in their fantasy as well. The beginning is a bit slow, but once it starts it’s irresistible!

Normally I LOVE fairytale retelling but I have to say, It took me a good while to get into this book!
Once the price came into it and the two characters actually interacted etc then it wasn’t too bad and actually became fun and enticing. It just took a while to get there I think!
But I’ll definitely be keeping a look out for book 2!

Thank you again for letting me read this book.

I think this book was good, retelling of aladdin (everything that I needed) but not mind blow. I think I already have a read a lot of book in that genre I think the plot was too predictable for me. Also I didn't feel any attraction to any characters and this is the thing that missed for me.

I'm probably going to check her other book because her writing is really good tho.
