4/5

The Cowboy's Last Rodeo is (I think) the first book I've read by Jeannie Watt. While I don't read that many western/rodeo themed romances I usually enjoy them when I do. Shane is competing in his last rodeo circuit with the goal of winning first place so he can use the money to start his future. Ella is trying to live more spontaneously while also doing research for a grant that she wants. The chemistry between Shane and Ella is instant but can their summer turn into forever? I enjoyed this book. It was sweet and steamy, action-packed and all about pushing your limits both physically and emotionally. I liked how Shane and Ella meshed - two seemingly opposites who compliment each other and understand about/relate to the pressures put on the other by their siblings. Overall The Cowboy's Last Rodeo was a fun ride.

I received this book for free from NetGalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This was a good book. I enjoyed the tie in to the 79th Copper Mountain Rodeo as well as start another series for the author with the Marvell brothers. I loved Shane and how he struggled with the break up with his long-term girlfriend. Shortly after the break up, the ex-girlfriend becomes engaged to the Marvell brothers' CPA. Shane is left reeling. He meets Ella as she is following the rodeo and interviewing bull-riders. Ella is working for her Master's degree. She is extremely intelligent and is following the rodeo to gather data to write a proposal for a grant. Upon meeting Shane, both feel an immediate attraction. They decide on a summer fling. This story of their adventure is a fun feel-good read until things go wrong.

This story is one that will grab you from the start. The dual POV is wonderful to help me identify with both characters. Their thoughts and actions are so much better understood with being able to see into their thought process.

I highly recommend this story to anyone.

The Cowboy's Last Rodeo by Jeannie Watt is book 4 in the "79th Copper Mountain Rodeo" series.
If you like books about Cowboys, Montana and rodeos. This is just the book for you.
It´s situated in the fictional town of Marietta, Montana, and it´s all about a Cowboy, that meets a lovely girl, and then we all know what happens eventually. It´s a great story, perfectly written, and with just the perfect amount of swagger to get us hooked on every last word.

Ella comes from a family of risk-takers. When she is passed over for a position because she isn’t like her family, she decides to have her own adventure following the rodeo and work on her own study. Shane Marvell isn’t in her study group, but something about him makes her look twice. Shane Marvell has finally gotten serious about his life and future, so he is trying to leave the tour with enough money to make his way. Meeting Ella wasn’t part of the plan, especially since he feels he has nothing to offer a woman. These two opposites work well together and balance each other out.
The characters are interesting and the story is well-written. This was a fun, quick read that takes us back to the Copper Mountain Rodeo in Marietta, Montana.

So when Shane meets Ella he has been dumped by his girlfriend of more than two years because he was not financially secure and with no plan to become so. But Ella so instantly cares for him so much she’s more interested in him, not seeing dollar signs, or lack of, that’s shes willing to work hard
, hot, dirty ranch work right along side him. Is this where I should not mention he has some fun ways for them to get clean again? So if you want to know the bare facts about this and the BEAR grab the book, you’ll be glad you did.
I love a ending that leaves me all happy and misty eyed, like I said grab the book!

Ella Exetberri is working through what she thinks is her looking at herself as not taking risks, where as everyone in her family does. They take them to the point of putting their lives on the line in what they do, at least from her prospective. Now not getting into a program in college she is doing her own case study. This is where she meets bull rider Shane Marvell who is looking at this being his last year on the circuit. What he did not expect was to be thrown by a women he never met before and now he is scared when she tells him who she feels about him. She also stands up to her own family when she tells them she is not going back to school or to the ranch. Now it is time for Shane to step up or get bucked off. Read this book and see what happens.

This is Shane's last yer competing in the rodeo circuit. That means he has to win and win big. He needs to money to secure of new future for himself. He has no idea what is next, but he knows he has nothing to offer anyone. Then he meets Ella. again. He knows that she looks familiar. She use to help her brother when he was competing. Ella always plays it safe and follows the rules. She is the only one in her family everyone can count on to do the right thing always. After she suffers a setback on her plans for her future she decides to take a ride on the side of spontaneity. What starts out as a fling and her chance to break the rules makes Ella question the future she has mapped out for herself. The time Shane spends with Ella makes him want to be a better man for her, despite his feeling unworthy of her. They will have to decide what is really important to them and if maybe plans for the future are just that, plans until the right person shows you the way to happiness. I couldn't help but love Shane's character. Great read.

I enjoyed reading The Cowboy’s Last Rodeo. It’s the fourth in the 79th Copper Mountain Rodeo multi-author series, set largely in Marietta Montana. This is a light and entertaining read, particularly if you like cowboys and rodeos.
Shane is riding his last season and is carrying a shoulder injury. He’s on top of the points board and determined to stay that way until the end so he can collect a bonus purse, which he believes is necessary to securing a future outside the rodeo ring.
Ella has been an academic for years but after missing out on a job she’s decided to research the risky behaviour of rodeo bull riders to find out what makes them tick. She’s always been cautious in her choices so spending a summer with Shane is quite out of character for her.
I liked the interplay between Shane and Ella and the way each of them changed as their story progressed. The characters themselves were likeable and well developed and I found myself hoping for their happy ending, feeling for Shane when things didn’t go to plan and for Ella when her family tried to intervene.
The story is well paced and kept my interest throughout. An excellent and relaxing weekend read.

This is a great novel of determination, grit and romance. Shane Marvell has reached his last rodeo season, his last opportunity to earn the money he needs to stabilize his future. He meets Ella Etcheberry, sister to a rider who was killed and working on rodeo risk research. They form a relationship full of chemistry but fraught with personal problems and insecurities. Shane is beat up by the rodeo; Ella is beaten down by family expectations. Together, they are strong and determined.

The Cowboy’s Last Rodeo gives us a rather unique look at a rodeo cowboy’s life as his career winds down, not necessarily by choice but by the wear, tear and abuse a body goes through while trying to stay on a bull or a bronc for those precious eight seconds… and the resulting injuries when the animal was truly the winner in the contest. I liked Shane. It’s that plain and simple, I liked this man. He’s realistic with himself, he knows his time on the circuit is ending and that he has to make this his best winning season ever for these rides will fund a future for himself, and maybe one day for his family. He knows what he doesn’t want, and he’s honest with himself in that some of his choices weren’t the wisest for the long haul. His ex has really done a number on his mind, on his pride and in his view of himself. It’s going to take a unique woman to show Shane that he is worth a lifetime commitment from a woman who can love him exactly as he is.

Ella is the non-risk taker in a family full of the biggest risk takers around. At times, it’s almost as though she was a foundling discovered on their doorstep with no idea what to do with her… except maybe love her for those differences. We’ve run into Ella before in this series, a quick glimpse of an interview where she asked some uncomfortable questions that got into a cowboy’s head right before a ride. Now I might never have sat on the back of one mean-spirited , angry bull but even I know not to ask some questions right before someone risks their life on the back of that animal. So, while Ella might not be seen as a true risk taker, she has the potential, even if she or her family doesn’t see it. She’s trying to understand the mindset of risk-takers by interviewing the rodeo cowboys (and cowgirls). What she will discover is a man worth some risks, a man wounded but still facing his reality in a way she has to admire even if she cannot fully understand. I liked Ella… but I loved Shane and Ella together, they fit, become a whole unit… eventually.

The best possible gift one person can give to another is to love them, unconditionally, exactly as they are. Ella and Shane are opposites in several ways, yet they each embrace who the other is without demanding they change for their comfort zones, but strengthen their love by accepting and celebrating those differences by committing to a love for a lifetime. Because of that solid foundation they are free to take chances, make decisions that will change them knowing that their love is returned no matter what differences are seen by the rest of the world. That’s romance, that’s the kind of love that is worth any risk imaginable… and that is what I saw in Ella and Shane. Sure, there were bumps along the road, but the final destination was worth it.

If you’re looking for a story that will touch your heart, make you think and definitely allow you to feel an unconditional love… then you’ll want to pick up The Cowboy’s Last Rodeo. I’d highly recommend this one, and the entire 79th Copper Mountain Rodeo series for Romance readers who enjoys the journey to that lifetime love.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

4 star

The story has laughs, pain, secrets, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
The Cowboy Meets His Match (The 79th Copper Mountain Rodeo Book 1) by Sarah Mayberry
The Bull Rider's Return (The 79th Copper Mountain Rodeo Book 2) by Joan Kilby
Cowboy Come Home (The 79th Copper Mountain Rodeo Book 3) by Sinclair Jayne

This is Ella and Shane’s story. Shane has only wanted to be a rodeo rider. Now that his career is ending far sooner then he wanted it to he is taking chances that he should not be. He wants to win as much as he can before he is done. So if it means being injured and still riding so be it. Ella was an always play it safe person but that didn’t keep her safe. She is researching rodeo riders and she meets Shane. She can tell he is risking everything. Can she help him? She is all about risking and he is just about done with all the risks. Can these two find a common ground? Or is the risk of forever just to high?

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

Ella Exteberri is interviewing bull riders on the rodeo circuit to understand why they take the risks they do in hopes of making it her latest research project. However, there's one man she wants an up close and personal study of and that man is Shane Marvell. Yet, the more time she and Shane spend together, the more Shane believes he's not good enough for Ella because he has nothing to offer her. Will Ella be able to convince Shane that she loves him just the way he is or will Ella end up with a broken heart?

This series is really enjoyable and I've got to say that this fourth book of The Copper Mountain Rodeo series was an absolutely engaging, fast-paced, wonderful read where the main characters had interesting back stories and an exciting journey to happy ever after and the dialogue was entertaining and had me reading quickly, determined to discover whether Shane would realize how much Ella means to him before it's too late. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time where this story really takes off, as there's so much chemistry between Shane and Ella.

With the main characters, they're relatable, likeable and I really enjoyed their back stories, as Ella has always been the sensible one of the family. Yet, this time she's looking to let loose and finally have a bit of a social life while still working towards her goals for the future. Will she be able to make her family understand why she's on this journey and that she's not crazy? Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked how determined she is to show Shane that she wants him as he is. While the hero, he doesn't believe he has much to offer a woman, which all leads back to his ex and the reasons she left him for a more accomplished man. Yet, in saying that, I liked how he's managed to get on with his life and worked hard to make money on the circuit in order to have more to offer the woman he finally makes his. Really, he's resilient, courageous, stubborn when it comes to pushing the limits of his sport and I liked his determination to be the top of his sport.

Overall, Ms. Watt has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry between Shane and Ella was strong; the romance had me smiling because Shane needs someone that will love him unconditionally like Ella does; and the ending had me loving that the heroine doesn't give up on the hero and had me loving the hero's determination to make things right with Ella after their relationship goes awry. Yet, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely because of Shane's surprise for the heroine and how he's ready to finally move on to a new chapter of his life. I would recommend The Cowboy's Last Rodeo by Jeannie Watt, if you enjoy the mysterious strangers trope, stories encompassing cowboys or books by authors Heidi Rice, Sinclair Jayne, Sarah Mayberry and Joan Kilby.

I liked way the reality of the “cowboy up” attitude, being “ranch rich and cash poor” and Shane looking at his future instead of living on rodeo dreams forever are shown. Ella realizes she needs to discover what she wants in life and who she wants in life (though her conscience adds a small ahem and “you know the who”).

But after spending time with Ella, who knows her way around ranch chores and who doesn’t hesitate to tell Shane what’s on her mind, he’s thinking of more. Until he hears something that makes him go all noble. Ella meanwhile, is having none of this (you go girlfriend) and I was happy that this didn’t drag out into a long Self-Denying “no, we mustn’t because I won’t let you waste your life on me” thing. Shane tries it but Ella is smart – she’s got a 2 college degrees! – and knows what she wants from him. Well glory be, that they actually end up talking and listening to each other. I was all set for at least one round of flouncing and smoldering angst but the overall communication here was a nice surprise. So their plans didn’t quite turn out as expected but in the end, everybody’s happy including me. B

Shane has made a career of being a bronc rider however although the spirit is willing the body is starting to rebel. He knows that his career is coming to an end and he is on a mission to make as much in prize money as he possibly can in his final year even if it means competing injured.

Ella comes from a family of adventurous people, but she has always taken the safe route. When it doesn’t appear to be paying off she decides that interviewing cowboys about why they take the risks they take should be the basis of her thesis.

Their attraction to each other is instant and intense but is it enough to overcome the differences in their careers, lifestyle and education especially as they are both re-evaluating what direction their life will be taking. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.

Oh, this was a good read. Take a woman doing research on risky behavior of rodeo cowboys. Take one rodeo cowboy having his last go-around and risking everything on every ride in order to go out on top and with as much $$ as possible. Both cross paths due to the research and before they know it... they want to research each other.

The Cowboy's Last Rodeo by Jeannie Watt is a case of how plans change over time especially as one matures or grows as a person. Some might say that it is simply an “opposites attraction” story but it is as much about personal growth as it is a romance story. Shane and Ella do a lot of thinking, analyzing and examining their approach to life and the type of life that they now have. Certainly, they are at the rodeo for very different reasons, but those reasons seem to collide and intermix as the story continues.

The story is solidly written especially as the reader sees both perspectives on the rodeo lifestyle as well as taking risks in life. The characters are thoughtful and diligent. Shane and Ella are likable characters that in their opposite approaches help each other to find a balance, in other words they are good for each other. It would be nice if all couples were able to say this about their relationships. The Cowboy's Last Rodeo is fun but thoughtful read.

Risk taker vs non risk taker. Shane is riding for his last year in the rodeo, going for it all even if injured. Ella has been passed up for a grant since she wasn't willing to take a risk, so instead she is traveling with the rodeo talking to bull riders on why they take the risk of their profession. Ella starts interviewing Shane when a friendship develops and leads to more. Are they both willing to take the risk of falling in love.

An enjoyable book that makes you feel like you are right there at the rodeo. Likable characters, loved on how Ella would not give up on Shane. A great addition to the 79th Copper Mountain Rodeo, these are all stand alone reads, one thing in common though, sexy cowboys!!
