I was intrigued by the wager that put Reese and Cara together. Wondering if Reese would fall victim to the bet himself. All Cara needed were votes to go her way and Reese seemed like a good way to garner them. It was fun to see who would get the upper hand. This was a fun story to read and didn't matter that I hadn't read they other books in the series. *Reviewed for Net Galley*

Known for his charm and silver tongue, Reese Delacy, the Earl of Darling, wagers that he can make any proper girl fall in love with him in less than a fortnight. Unfortunately, the boast catches the ear of the notorious gossip behind the Whispers of Lady X. In no time, details of Reese’s wager spreads through Town, making him a pariah in short order. All seems lost until he stumbles upon a Bermudian beauty who is seemingly unaware of his scandalous wager.
One of my all-time favorite rom-coms is How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days so when I saw this historical version of it, I had to read it. It was a quick and cute read that I really enjoyed. I look forward to reading more from this author.

*I originally read and reviewed this novella as part of the "It Started with a Whisper" anthology.

Reese Delacy, Earl of Darling is consoling his heartbroken friend Capt Lucien Gates. Lucien has been thrown over by his betrothed and is drowning his sorrows. Reese doesn't believe in love and tells Lucien that he could make any woman fall in love with him, just by being charming. Lord Daniel Westham overhears him and they make a wager - Reese has ten days to make a woman fall in love with him - winner gets 200 pounds. Trouble is Lady X gets wind of the wager and no woman will give Reese the time of day. Enter the Duchess of Hythe (Lucien's grandmother) she is sponsoring Cara Beckett for the season, Cara is from Bermuda and is only in England for one reason - to garner votes for the Turks Salt Trade bill, her family's livelihood depends on Bermuda's right to free salt trade on the Turk islands. Her father was dear friends with the duchess and she has been kind to Cara, helping her meet the peers she needs to speak with, but the duchess wants more for her. Cara is single minded in her quest, she has lost so much, her father and her betrothed and the business is all she has left besides her sisters. She cannot fail them! When the duchess and her friends learn about the wager, they come up with their own wager - they will have a woman let Reese think he is winning and then bring him down a few pegs and Cara is the perfect woman for the job. The duchess convinces Cara to go along with her and Cara reluctantly agrees.

When Reese meets Cara, he pours on the charm and Cara is hard pressed not to fall for him. She needs votes and Reese offers to help her. He introduces her to voting members and at the same time courts her. When the opportunity to visit the Hadleigh fair, she agrees to go. Archibald Atherton and his sister Emma insist that she stay with them for the three days and of course Reese is going. While at the fair, Cara sees her sister's betrothed, but he avoids her, she wonders why and tells Reese, he warns her not to mention that Ballantyne is betrothed to her sister and that he can't explain in the crowd why. Cara wants answers but will wait. Reese tracks down Ballantyne and asks about Cara's sister - Charles Ballantyne is the man who stole Lucien's betrothed - Charles says that he had no formal betrothal with Cait and Reese punches him. Reese returns to the group, but is withdrawn and during dinner Cara is sure he is angry with her. When her dinner partner seems interested in her political dealings, she tries to focus on him. Chopwell suggests they meet to discuss the vote and Emma shows them to parlor and leaves them to talk. Chopwell attacks Cara and Arch and Reese barely are in time to save her.

Reese takes her to her room and then returns to deal with Chopwell - he calls him out and goes to check on Cara. This is when she learns about Charles' betrayal of her sister - it is all too much and she lashes out at Reese - she tells him she knows about the wager and he is no better than Chopwell.

Reese is hurt and angry, but he will leave her alone, he returns to London to prepare for the duel - it is the least he can do for her. She is upset when she learns he left and Lucien is demanding answers - Emma is drawn into things and even though she is secretly in love with Lucien, she can't tell him what she knows, she also thinks that Lucien is in love with Cara and is a little heart sick. Lucien returns to London for answers, but hits a dead end.

Cara returns and confides all to the duchess, who vows that everything will work out. She then calls for reinforcements. Reese refuse to call on Cara, thinking that is her wish, so the duchess has her work cut out for her. Cara feels terrible about the things she said, she admits to herself that she cares for him and may love him - but everything has gone terribly wrong.

Cara reenters society and works to get the votes she needs. She is at a ball and sees Reese, but he tries to avoid her, but when he is drawn into the group around her, he helps her further her cause and he realizes he loves her. He decides to take a chance and talks to her, but Cara still has a secret and she hopes that when she comes clean, Reese can forgive her.

This is a no steam novella, but it is brimming with sexual tension, secrets, witty banter, very likable leads, great secondary character (who are begging for their own stories!) a well meaning meddling duchess and a sweet HEA.

I had not read anything by Ava Stone before this book, but I am sure this won't be my last book in my tbr list by this author.

This is a sweet short romance loosely based on the rom com movie "How to lose a guy in ten days". Since our hero and heroine only have little more than a week for their mutual feelings to develop I was quite relieved that the author did not try to squeeze in some hurried sex scene as I have unfortunately seen in other instances. This may not make it a first choice for readers who prefer their romances to be on the steamier side, but it does make the story more plausible and the characters are as fleshed out as the constraints of the novella form make it possible.

It was a pleasant read which you can read as a standalone even if some secondary characters belong to previous books and some secondary characters of this book will make the hero and heroine of the next installment.

I usually love Ava Stone but I just couldn't get into this ine. The characters seemed really false and I feel like I have to like at least one of the MCs! Quite disappointed and have up around 30%, gonna try the next in the series to see if it's any better!

Cara Beckett needs to retain control of their family empire and needs votes to ensure this.

Reece Delay, the Earl of Darling needs to win a bet he didn't want to make with Lord Daniel, an entitled bloat. He must have someone fall in love with him in 10 days or less.

When two worlds entertwine, 2 can play at this came... Or not. This book is a good read and very entertaining! It gets 5 stars of originality. The author wrote a marvelous book that gives many laughs while taking you down an intense road of great details in this immensely splendid tale.

Reese Delacy, the Earl of Darling, wagers that he can make any proper girl fall in love with him in less than a fortnight in ten days. In just a few days the details of Reese’s wager spreads through Town. Miss Cara Beckett is on a mission to represent the interests of her family’s empire and to solicit the support of parliament. She’d bargained with her hostess the Duchesse in a reckless wager to win votes in parliament and Reese is the perfect target. What she doesn’t expect is to be so attracted to the darling of the ton, Reese. What happens when two people with their own agenda are instantly attracted to each other? It doesn’t take long before they individually realize that they aren't acting anymore, there’s real feeling developing between them, but will they give into those feeling and find their own happiness. This is an enchanting story of wagers gone wrong and love conquers all. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

Fast-paced historical read with plenty of drama and lots of emotion. The story is fun, with plenty of steam and great characters. I really liked it.

Reese Delacy, the Earl of Darling, bets that he can make any proper girl fall in love with him within ten days. The news of this bet is gossip among all the ton and is printed on the paper by Lady X. Now no proper lady or her parents will have anything to do with him. How is he to win this bet? Cara Beckett is one of the Beckett Salt heiresses in London to plead her case in Parliament, that the Turks should not have to pay the Bahamians a tax on the salt that is exported. Her father is dead and the decision will affect their livelihood. She is staying with The Duchess of Hythe who is aware of this bet and decides to help Cara and win a net she has made at the same time. She wants Cara to play up to Reese to get him to fall in love with her. Since Reese is so handsome and charming, it is not a chore to do this. She charms Reese and several other men. She needs votes for her business. Reese is jealous of the others attention and realises that he loves her and must tell her the truth about the bet but Cara has to tell him the truth about her bet for the Duchess.. Will they forgive each other? And why is the Duchess so interested in Cara and Reese's relationship? I adored this book. It was fun and I loved the complications that ended in a HEA. I received this book from Net Galley and Night Shift Publishing for a honest review and no compensation otherwise.

I received this book as an ARC from Net Galley.
This is a sweet and sassy novella. The hero makes a drunken bet and ends up falling in love. The heroine has a one track mind on getting salt rights protected. The two come together with the help of a Duchess and her friends. This is a great quick read.

Reese Delacy, the Earl of Darling, makes a drunken bet with his friends that he can make any woman fall in love with him in less than a fortnight. Once society hear of the wager they ostracize Reece and he looks to have no hope of winning. But the older female members of this group of friends make a wager of their own to secure marriages for their erstwhile relatives.
Miss Cara Beckett Bermuda to try to solicit votes for the islands salt trade that was her family’s livelihood. Everyone is depending on her after the recent death of both her father and her betrothed. She is encouraged by her father’s friend to partake in the wager to help her in her quest.
What follows is an adventure that no one least of all the main characters expect. I enjoyed this book and despite its shortness it packs a lot of story. Full of heartbreak, danger, and romance this is a compelling romance that grips you from the beginning. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys an independent woman and rakish man

This is the first book I've read by Ava Stone and I enjoyed it very much. This is book 3 in the series. I did not read the first 2 books but it did not matter as this can be read as a stand alone.
Cara is from Bermuda, visiting England to try to influence a political vote regarding the salt mines in the Turks. The last thing she wants is to get romantically involved.
Reese is the Earl of Darling. He has made a bet with his friends that he can get any girl to fall in love with him in 10 days. He picks Cara.
The result is that despite both using each other for their own purposes, somewhere along the way, they fall in love.
It was a pleasant and enjoyable story.

For a longer novella this story packed a punch. Nothing was missing except that a bit more heat might have been nice. I loved both the hero and the heroine and am quite eager for the follow up stories in this series.

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. How to Land An Earl In 10 Days Or Less by Ava Stone is I believe the first book (novella) in her The Heart Of An Heiress series. While trying to cheer up his heartbroken friend Reece Delacy Earl of Darling foolishly agrees to a bet that he can convince a young lady fall in love with him in 10 days or less. Cara Beckett is in London to persuade as many members of parliament to vote in favour of allowing Bermuda to harvest salt from the Turks Islands. Her honorary grandmother convinces her to play along with the courtship as she has a bet with a friend of hers that Cara can turn the tables on the Earl. A charming tale with just enough angst to make it interesting, sweet not steamy. Publishing Date May 8, 2018 #HowToLandAnEarlIn10DaysOrLess #NetGalley

A wager made between gentlemen. Another made between ladies. What could the outcome be? Reese, the Earl of Darling made a wager to charm a lady to fall in love with him in 10 days. Yes, he was a little full of himself but thought it would be easy with his charm. Miss Cara Beckett had traveled from her home in Bermuda to try to solicit votes for the island's salt trade that was her family’s livelihood. In order to achieve her goal she needs help and Reese looks like the perfect target. What happens when two people with their own agenda get together? Fireworks and some unwanted attention!!
Although a novella this story packed a lot of emotion and humor in with the characters coming to life and grabbing your attention. I am looking forward to several of the secondary characters having their own story.

I always give a fair and honest review in return for any ARC I have the privilege of reading. This was really such a cleverly written and enjoyable read. This book would suit anyone as it is not erotic, just very well told. You should enjoy it as I did.
