Awesome story! Highland Laird Robert is fierce and focused. Janet is a Highland Lass who is determined to go after what she wants. They want each other but unfortunately their clans are enemies. The author creates a wonderful picture of the Highlands, it’s people and lifestyle. Janet and Robert find themselves fighting for their lives together and after surviving growing closer together. They are then ripped apart by her father. Eventually they find their way back together and are able to marry and fulfill the love they have each other.

…if I had to steal away and ride alone, nothing would prevent me from finding your arms…

Laird Robert Grant knows those bloody Cameron’s have stolen his cattle, and he will stop at nothing to prove their guilt. A life-long feud between the Grant’s and the Cameron’s is all the proof he needs, and not even the beautiful Miss Janet Cameron will change his mind.

Janet Cameron is fiercely loyal to her clan, and even if Laird Grant is one of the most roguishly handsome men she has seen, she will not allow him to disparage her family’s name. But Miss Janet’s beauty and allure has attracted one of the English Dragoon’s, and when she finds herself under attack, she is rescued by the one man she never thought would come to the aid of a Cameron.

On the run from the law and stranded in the wilds of the Highlands during a blizzard, Robert and Janet find themselves drawn towards each other and come under the realization that true love is found in the most unlikely of places…

Amy Jarecki has written a page turning historical romance this reader could not put down and did not want to end! Highly recommend!

Janet Cameron, daughter of a highland laird, has traveled to a nearby town with her brother, Kennan, to celebrate the festival of Samhain, where many other clans, and British soldiers, are as well. Laird Robert Grant is also in town for the festival and promptly accuses Janet's brother of having Cameron men steal Grant cattle. Though someone has stolen from the Camerons as well, there is a long-standing feud between the two clans that leads to a duel between Kennan and Robert. (Kennan began to annoy me from here with his immature, blustery behavior and his refusal to own up to his own errors, but maybe we'll some more development from him in future books).

When drunken revelry at the festival ends in Janet's arrest by some nasty British dragoons, Robert finds himself going after Janet, even though he knows this is none of his business and he should just head for the hills. Janet's hatred and mistrust of Robert and his entire clan has been ingrained in her since birth, but she has little choice but to trust him, especially since they've both made a determined enemy in the English lieutenant. With the onset of a blizzard and a fall that injures Janet, Robert opts to get them to his home and keep her safe from the English until she's healed enough to travel to her own home. This angers Janet, who, despite the obvious connection between them, is determined to dislike Robert and maintain the mistrust between their clans simply because the feud between them has lasted for generations. Robert understands the risks of getting involved with Janet and does his best to keep himself apart from her, but he feels desperately drawn to her. Will he be able to convince her to accept him and make peace with her clan?

This is much improved from other, earlier works I've read from this author. Although Janet did really get on my nerves, I liked Robert a great deal as a good example of a flawed hero who demonstrates character development. This one has made me want to start reading this author again.

I received a complimentary ARC via NetGalley. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Highland Renegade
Lords of the Highlands #5

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Laird Robert Grant is a very loyal clan chief who has been having a feud with the Cameron's for more years then he's been alive. Then when a drunk Royal Dragoon drunkenly tries to force himself on the daughter of the Cameron he decides to put aside their feud and come to her aid. He ends up racing against time with her alone in the night. Yes Janet Cameron is beautiful, cunning, and so very tempting, but a Cameron lass is the last woman he should ever desire.

Janet Cameron is not the kind of lass to back down and meekly surrender, not even when surrounded by foes. She takes every chance to escape first from the English soldiers and then from the very handsome Laird Robert Grant. Yet with each day they spend together, his unexpected gallantry is chipping away a her heart bit by bit.

As danger and treachery loom, can she trust him enough to choose love over vengeance? Will their clans be able to put aside their anger after years of fueding and let these two find love?

Amy Jarecki is absolutely fabulous. You will fall in love with Janet and Robert as you read their story. These two characters were meant for eachother. There is enough action and treachery in this book to satisfy anyone's love of what the Highlands were like during those tumoltous times. Ms. Jarecki I glady give you the 5 stars for what I felt was an original story.
