Although this book was not quite what I expected, I did enjoy it.

Hattie Green is 42, has a teenage son and they live with Hattie's mum. Hattie is looking for someone to love.

In the valentine aisle at Tesco, a man invites Hattie for coffee. (A stranger, NO!) She tells him "No", and moves to the next aisle where a shelf of baked beans collapses and she is rendered unconscious. She meets the nicest, most handsome man, Josh, who is going to assist her in reviewing (and revising to an extent) her life.

According to Josh, she needs to learn 3 things before she returns home: 1. How to trust; 2. Believe the unbelievable 3. Fall in love.

Hattie travels back and forth from scenes of her past life that she could have handled differently to a type of "heaven". During the time she is "reviewing" her past; Hattie encounters both pleasant and unpleasant times.

(Actually, Hattie falls in love with Josh - but, she realizes, he lives on a different wavelength). His is a wavelength of unicorns, sweet drinks, sweet teas, comfy places, underground aquariums and hand-holding. She realizes that he has to stay here and she must return to her "real" life - and she does...……….

A romantic, fun book that is a fast read - the characters are well developed. Also, the imagery is very good. I could easily picture (in my reader's mind) some of the fantasies.

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a fun read!

I'll start this review by saying I love Debbie Viggiano's books. When life is chucking lemons at you, they're the perfect tonic (and gin) to slice 'em up, settle down and get ready for laughs and tears. Does that make sense? Well, in many ways, this book doesn't make a lot of sense but we're talking about a total flight of fantasy, complete with unicorns, a hunk in a glowing white suit and strange encounters in the supermarket. Given the chance, wouldn't we all like to revisit moments in our past and – if not change them, exactly – then alter our reactions to them? This is what Hattie is given the opportunity to do. See things differently and make peace with herself. The largely comic tone takes an unexpected turn towards a darker side, something I didn't see coming. But the author handles light and shade with skill, balancing the harrowing and the humorous. A line that emphasises the former – 'Why do people stay together in marriages that become layered with affairs, littered with tears and lashed with angry words of recrimination?' But don't let that put you off enjoying what is essentially a fun, fabulous read. If only there were more Josh-like men in the world (or afterlife).

After an accident involving several tins of baked beans at her local supermarket, Holly Green wakes up staring into the eyes of a gorgeous man in a glowing white suit. Josh (or Bradley Cooper as Holly calls him) is from a place in between Heaven and Earth. He’s there to help Holly see what her life could have been if things had been done differently and more importantly to help Holly see that things that happened in her life weren’t necessarily her fault. To be able to return to Earth and fall in love again, Holly needed to learn to forgive people, and the only way to do that was to revisit key moments in her life.

I loved this book! It wasn’t quite what I expected with all the astral planes, unicorns, rainbows and heavenly drinks but that’s what made it so much fun! I mean, let’s face it – where else could you get away with a storyline like that! Holly Green was such a fantastic character. She’s had a real rough life for years, married to serial adulterer Nick, she’s taken what he’s done to her and put up with it just to keep her family together. As Angel Josh takes her on a trip through her past Holly, who has obviously blamed herself for everything that has happened, sees that perhaps not all of it was her fault.

The trips back to Holly’s past were the best bits! Each past memory were so emotional they had me in tears (particularly Martin, her ex-boyfriend and the birth of her son – you’ll understand what I mean when you get there!) The characters were all great, each of them with their good and bad points. Holly’s husband Nick was the Antichrist – well, no he wasn’t really but he was the worst husband that a woman could ever wish for. Angel Josh was just absolutely heavenly and truly made my heart swoon, never mind about Holly’s!!

This was a wonderful, funny, romantic and emotional read! It has a heart-warming thread running through it which teaches how you to forgive. It also shows you that if you could live your life all over again, would you change anything? After reading this, it certainly makes you think whether you would or not! Highly recommended! Fabulous!!!
