Cut and Run is another solid hit from Mary Burton. I read a lot of romantic suspense, mysteries and thrillers so it's hard for me to find a story that I cannot figure out "who did it". Well every time I thought that I knew the answer, Cut and Run threw me another twist. This story is about many things, a FBI agent named Macy Crow's father has been murdered and he sent her a message. A Texas ranger named Mitchell Hayden is on the case and he's looking for answers as well. The problem is that every time he thinks that he as an answer, another question pops up. Our final main character is Faith McIntyre. She's the medical examiner and gets drawn into this case because she's the mirror image of Macy Crow. Faith knew that she was adopted as a baby but doesn't know who her birth parents were or if she has any relatives. This is a gritty, raw and intriguing mystery that is told from multiple points of view and will keep you reading late into the night until you get the answers to all your questions. I really enjoyed it and it's a 4 1/2 star rating for me.

Mary Burton has out done herself in her latest novel “Cut and Run.” Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden is called to the home of a local informant only to find the man in question tortured and murdered with little explanation as to why the man had so urgently needed to speak with him. FBI agent Macy Crow comes home due to her father’s unexplained death, but along the way a missing girl poster catches her eye just before she is ran down by an unknown assailant. Dr. Faith McIntyre is called to the hospital when Ranger Hayden notices a strong resemblance between Faith and Macy, and as the story of their birth unfolds a sinister plot comes to light that may shed some light on the missing girl from the poster. This was a fast-paced thriller that left me guessing until the end. I was given an advanced copy of this book, and all of the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

If you're looking for a book that will keep you from wanting to get sleep, then this is it. Mary Burton has created yet another book that has not only suspense and twists and turns but some steamy moments between characters that might make you need a cold shower.. I am not a regular reader of romance and therefore the unique way that Mary manages to create the kind of suspenseful story with romance elements that makes me want to keep reading makes me want to send her a kudos!

If you are big on intense, moment to moment, edge of your seat suspense then this is the book for you. There is so much going on in this book and so many players involved one would think it would be hard to keep it all straight but Burton’s flowing storyline and engaging characters, along with descriptive details make it all work. It was impossible for me not to be drawn into this suspenseful murder mystery from the beginning. I have been reading Burton’s work for a while because I really enjoy her writing style and the way she draws you into the story. There is a constant pull from page to page that just keeps me enthralled. There are plenty of surprises and twists and turns to keep you guessing the outcomes of all involved parties in this book. I enjoyed Faith and Mitchell’s characters; they were easy to relate to and made an interesting couple. I loved seeing their relationship evolve and wish Burton would have expanded on it just a tad more. This story is a bit on the darker side but it does not go overboard with overly descriptive scenes and it is definitely not for the faint of heart. If you are looking for a heartwarming read, then this is not the book for you. However, if you are looking for something that will have your heart pounding, keep you guessing, that is chock full of suspense, murder and mayhem with shocking twists and a touch of romance, including a HEA then look no further…this is the book for you.

It’s interesting how things in life intersect. There’s something to the concept of “six degrees of separation,” and in Mary Burton’s newest romantic suspense, CUT AND RUN, intersection is a key element.

It begins when Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden gets a call from an informant. When he shows up at Jack Crow’s house, he finds the “salty” old man tortured and murdered. That leads Hayden to Travis County Medical Examiner Dr. Faith McIntyre, who is examining Jack’s death investigation. FBI Agent Macy Crow is Jack’s daughter, and she comes into town, but during her own investigation wherein she retraces Jack’s steps, she becomes the victim of a hit-and-run. And when Hayden begins his investigation of her attack, it’s clear her undeniable resemblance to Faith is going to be treacherous.

CUT AND RUN is a busy story, with several tangential storylines and a dozen characters. The discovery of Faith and Macy being twins sets off a domino effect that stretches back decades — because their birth mother was not the first pregnant teenager kidnapped in the name of providing healthy babies to wealthier, worthier families. And she wasn’t the last.

The romantic relationship between Faith and Hayden is a subtler storyline that takes a backseat to the explosive suspense happening in the foreground, but its slow-burn approach is no less beguiling. Their romance is as mature as Hayden and Faith are, because they’re not kids — their attraction is real and relatable. Faith was friends with Hayden’s wife, Sierra, before she died of ovarian cancer four years prior. Hayden took an assignment that let him leave town, but his recent promotion has brought him back to Austin. And to Faith. The heart wants what the heart wants, even when it’s cryptic and takes a while to make itself clear.

“A kiss? Are we going steady, Captain?”

Steady may not be the right concept in the beginning, but it is clear they’re both looking for affection. And a connection … an intersection. Burton is a bona fide suspense superstar. And her books may be peppered with enough twists and turns to give you whiplash, but the simmering romance she builds makes for such a compelling, well-rounded story.

Net Galley provided a free ARC for an honest review. I love Mary Burton and I love her books. This is another winner. Faith is a medical examiner and Hayden is a Texas Ranger. They have a "thing" going on and are thrown together trying to solve a gruesome torture and murder. As always the characters are well written and relatable. The story is excellent and moves along quite quickly with several candidates for bad guy as the bodies pile up. I really enjoyed it and tore right through it. I highly recommend this book as well as all Ms Burton's work.

If you are a fan of mysteries and suspense books, then, you need to check out author, Mary Burton. This latest offering from Mary does serve up good characters, a nice storyline with a mix of action and intrigue.

I liked Faith. She was a good mixture of intelligent but personable as well. Thus in turn this made her relatable. A very important quality to have in a character. It makes reading a book much easier. There are several other characters featured in this book. They didn't play second string but equal parts to Faith.

Which, I am a fan of this author's and her books. I do have to admit that I struggled in the beginning to really find my footing wit this book. The first chapter or two were good but after that it seemed like there was a lot of time spent in the details of trying to piece everything together. Not that details are not important but too much time spent causes the story to get bogged down. The second half of the book is much better. It is where the most of the action happened. Plus, the story moved faster. There are a few twists along the way.

It was a good read. Definitely more mystery than romance. You have got a black market baby scam. Its a question of who, what, where, when, why, and how.

Cut and Run is a page-turner. This book provides chapters after chapters of thrill, and romance included in the package too.

We meet Faith, a medical examiner, who is also mentoring a young pregnant girl beside balancing her work, and life. She is also intimately acquainted with Mitchell Hayden, a Texas Ranger. However, when Hayden begins working on a new case, a newcomer arrives in town. The newcomer is Macy Crow, who bears a strong resemblance to Faith..such a resemblance that they might be identical twins.

After this shocking revelation, Faith and Hayden have to pave their way through lies, violence, deception in order to uncover the killer who will stop at nothing to hide the truth.

Thanks to NetGalley, Montlake Romance for providing me with an eARC.

What a fantastic read, this book has a little bit of everything but a lot of surprises that will keep guessing until the end.
When Texas Ranger Mitchell Haydon receives a message from an old acquaintance, Jack Crow who has been known to live on the fringes of the law his interest is peaked. Unfortunately for Mr. Crow, he's a little late getting out to the Salvage yard where Crow lives. When Ranger Haydon arrives, let's just say he's chasing off the buzzards who are also interested in Mr. Crow. It looks like ole Jack took whatever secrets that this killer wanted to the grave by the looks of his poor old tortured body and tossed trailer house.
Ranger Haydon calls in the reinforcements to see if they could come up with anything useful regarding who did this to the old man who was pretty much a hermit.
Medical Examiner Fatih McIntyre and her investigator arrive and take Mr. Crow away and look for the next of kin to identify the body. Mr. Crow had a son, Dirk who lived on the other side of the property who seems to be missing and a daughter Macy who lived in Virginia. They did make contact with Macy, and she drops everything and catches the next flight to Austin.
Macy's first stop is her dad's salvage yard; she's sure that the two initial searches might have missed something. She's right, her dad left her trail, but it was in the right direction. She's back at her hotel room when she sees a clip Faith McIntyre accepting an award regarding a children's home. She's completely dumbfounded by the image Faith; it was like her body double. She sends Faith a note plus a selfie and photo of her FBI identification.
She's following her trail to a bar called "Second Chances" when things go wrong. Macy is almost killed after she leaves that bar, Ranger Haydon can't believe what his eyes when approaches the body of Macy laying broken in the street. He's been working with Faith for a long time and knew she was an only child.
As I stated earlier this book has so many twists and turns, I'm finding it hard to write this review without spewing spoilers all over the place.
Ms. Burton has done it again, another perfect romantic suspense novel that will rival anyone else's out there.
I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this galley in exchange for my honest review. The opinions I expressed above are my own.

I am a huge Mary Burton fan. Her writing style puts me at the scene of the crime and makes me work hard to try to stay one step ahead of her incredibly horrible bad guys! Burton's writing style is expertly paced and plotted with red herrings that reveal so much more about the real killer's motives than anyone would expect! And the romance element is clearly there, not front and center and not in your face, it organically develops and I love that her characters are focused on solving the mystery, not having sex in questionable places at dangerous times! You know, responsible, realistic sex while killers are on the loose!

Mary Burton does her usual stellar job with Cut and Run. Her characters are multifaceted and her twists and turns are compelling. Her ultimate “bad guy” was a surprise and while I felt this story was more mystery/suspense than romance I appreciate Ms. Burton’s skills as a writer. Ms. Burton has yet to craft a story I have not enjoyed. She is a must read for this reader.

This book was intense! The murder mystery was suspenseful and the author did a really good job of keeping me in the dark about the villain. I didn't have a solid guess until almost the very end, which kept me glued to the book. For the mystery plot this gets a solid 4 stars. I was hooked from beginning to end. The characters all played a part and the more that was revealed, the more I was antsy to get to the conclusion.

What I loved the most has to be the strong female roles in this story. Faith, Macy and Kat were strong, capable and fearless. I liked that they each contributed to the story and played a dominant role.

I knocked it down half a star because the romance between Faith and Hayden was pretty non-existent. If you completely took the "romance" out, this book would not suffer. Tbh I think it would be better as a strictly mystery/suspense read. The romance was just really cut and dry with them. They were already involved in a purely physical relationship at the start of the story. Then throughout the investigation, the interactions are few and far between and I never felt a real spark of chemistry until the very end. I was surprised how happy I was when both MCs started softening towards the other, but by then it was too little too late for me.

Would I recommend? Romance wise, this was a bust for me but the mystery part was awesome. Really well done. Highly recommended, but don't expect an epic love story. The romance is scarce.

Mary Burton's books just have everything I could ask for in a Romantic Suspense and this one was no different. With that little bit of romance between Faith and Mitchell, the on-the-edge-of-my-seat suspense, and the massive amount of intrigue, I was completely hooked on this story. It took me through twists and turns and had me guessing at everything. Even when I got to the point where I knew what was going on I still didn't actually know what was going to happen. I loved that it had me so shocked at multiple different times and each turn of the page had me wide eyed.

Overall, this is story-telling at it's finest. Ms. Burton will always be one of my favorite RS authors and each book I read from her only solidifies that fact.

You never know how big your own family may be. You may have a twin, sibling, and who knows what else. As secrets unfold, this story gets more suspenseful, thrilling, spine-tingling, and bone-chilling by the minute. This romantic suspense brings medical examiner Dr. Faith McIntyre and Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden together to work with detectives, FBI agents, and others in trying to solve a murder. The more Faith and Mitchell and other law enforcement dig into the mystery of this crime, the further back in time they must explore. This multiple murder crime spree started at least a decade ago, and involves pregnant women. It is a scary premise, but the author handles everything with thoughtfulness, care, and a lot of heart. I recommend this to anyone who likes what I consider to be a romantic suspense thriller. It was extremely hard to put it down. [I received an early copy of this book and my opinion is my own.]

Mary Burton is on top of her game with Cut and Run. You will Not want to sleep until you have finished this book! I can't say that Cut and Run is Mary's best because she's a great writer and has a lot of great books, she has a super awesome writing style, and she will make you feel like your right there in the book. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Cut and Run!!!! Ok now for the story line....Cut and Run starts out with Jack Crow puting in a call to Hayden Mitchel, Hayden finds Jack dead....and not in a nice way, he was pretty ruffed up. Jack also put a call into Macy, his adopted daughter....Macy being adopted is a BIG part of the story. Jack leaves clues for Macy to follow, but, why?! Macy is FBI, which is why he leaves the clues to Macy. 30 years ago girls came up missing from the same area. They each (3 of them) got taken about a year apart. These girls each had babies before being killed, so now, where are the babies and why is someone so worried about covering what happened all those years ago....someone really wants this secret dead!!!! Happy Reading!! :))

Mary Burton is one of the best suspense writers out there. She puts so much into each book that she writes, and I find it extremely hard to put down.
Macy Crow comes back to town, when her father is found murdered. There are many secrets that should have been buried with him, but he left clues for Macy (an FBI Agent) to find. When she starts looking around she is hit by a car and left for dead. Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden is called to the scene, to be totally caught off guard when he sees that she looks exactly like Faith McIntyre the medical examiner in town.
As the secrets of this town come out, and there are MANY, can Faith and Mitchell find the answers before someone else is murdered.
The end of this book was totally a surprise!! Didn't see that one coming at all....

Cut and Run is another spine-chilling romantic suspense form, Mary Burton. I received an invitation from the publisher, via Net-Galley, to read and review this book prior to publication. My opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way.

This is a fast-paced story with plenty of mystery and intrigue. It kept me engaged from the first page to the last. The writing is fluid, the plot well planned and the characters are enthralling. Ms. Burton held her cards tight, and I was surprised when I found out who was behind the murders.
Faith’s character quickly earns my empathy as she goes about discovering the mystery of the unconscious woman lying at death’s door who is her identical twin. I loved her tenacity, even when it almost gets her killed.

Mitchell is the typical cool ranger, determined to solve the murders. He is drawn to Faith and is determined to gain her trust. While the romance is not the central theme of this spell-binding thriller, it is gently woven into the story. By the end of the novel, I truly wanted them to find their happy ending.

If you are looking for a novel that is hard to put down with plenty of action and mystery, then you will enjoy Cut and Run. I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series. I highly recommend this outstanding book. Happy reading!
