The Mountain Mercenaries series is a bit of a disappointment. First- I can’t imagine a tough group of men picking out that name. Second- the whole “mafia” element doesn’t ring true. What large mafia will be leery of dealing with a small group of ex-soldiers? I know, I know...I read the first book, but it still doesn’t seem likely. Third- the events of this story are so implausible! Let me see, a financial genius who can’t tell that the money coming in is an inheritance?

However, with typical Stoker skill, she created a man who is the hit of the book. While I’m not loving the Chloe character, the hero steals the show.

While I love each Susan Stoker book, this one was a bit slow paced for me, I wanted to get past the brother and his girlfriend and get to the good stuff! More angst, more Alpha male stepping in!

This is book 2 in the Mountain Mercenaries series and I would recommend reading the first book as it introduces you to the characters and you will understand things that are mentioned in this book. This one is about Chloe Harris and Ronan Cross. Ronan works for Mountain Mercenaries but also as a mechanic. When Chloe wanders onto his property asking for a phone, he can't get her off his mind. And is determined to find out what is going on and whether she needs the help that his team can give her. Chloe has been a prisoner of her brother since her father's death. But now her brother is trying to force her into something she cannot and will not do. But she doesn't know who to trust or even who to turn to for help. Until she crosses path's with Ronan and discovers that she may have people in her corner to help get her not only safe but happy.

I loved this one!! Ronan is this hot british guy who can't stand to see a woman hurt or forced to do something against her will. He is definitely the Alpha overprotective type but in a way that makes you fall in love with him. He can be decidedly dumb but he does it from a place of love. Chloe has been through literal hell at the hands of her brother but she is such a strong person in spite of everything that you just want to root her on! And she never gives up, no matter what. I loved that about her. Her and Ronan are awesome together and I loved seeing more interactions with the other members of the team. And that snippet at the end for the next book? I definitely can't wait for that one and to know what happened to her!!

Great next book to this series. Chloe's problem is very different from that in the first book, and Ro falls harder and faster than his team mate. Lots of creepy bad guys to take care of, plus lots of hot, sexy times. I've loved everything that I've read by Susan Stoker, and this one is no different.

This is the second book in this series about rescuing women in danger. I did enjoy the book even though I had a hard time picturing Chloe staying is this situation as long as she did. Giving the point of view of both sides did help me understand where this author was going with this story line

Chloe is a prisoner to her brother and his girlfriend. This has been going on for several years. She has a plan to escape, but the time hasn't came up nor has the opportunity.
Enter Ronan aka Ro.
When Chloe is kicked out of the car her brother is driving (in the middle of nowhere), she meets Ro when she is looking for a phone to call her brother's girlfriend to come get her. She should have left them then. *Sigh*
Ro can tell she needs help so he gives her his business card to call him and he will help her get out of whatever situation she is in. She doesn't call. But Ro feels a connection and looks into her. He finds out her brother owns a certain type of business and goes to check on her.
Chloe knows this is the day she needs to leave her brother since the circumstances have left her no other choice. Then she sees Ro. And he buys time to be with her. Kinda. You'll see what I mean if you read the book.

I enjoyed this book! I'm not normally into this type of book, yet, it grabbed and held my attention.

This is book 2 in the series. I had no problem reading it on its own though.
This is my first book by this author.

I love Susan Stoker's stories. They are heartwarming and nail-biting. Susan always has believable characters in the direst straits. The way she weaves the suspense with the love story is awesome to read. While the ending wasn't as suspenseful as some of her other books it still had me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed reading Defending Chloe.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I also purchased a copy.

I just loved this book. I adore the premise for the entire series, rescuing women and children from abusing situations. This is the second book of this series and as usual, Ms. Stoker does an admiral job of taking the reader on a ride. My emotions were all over the place here. I admired Chloe's spirit, strength and determination to get away from the situation that her brother put her in. Ronan or Ro was wonderful. I loved him in Defending Allye and his character just got better and better in his own story.

This book has a dual POV that helps me as a reader to understand the character so much better. As not ever been in this situation and not knowing how I would react, this is necessary to understand the character's actions instead of guess the why and why not.

This story flows beautifully. The scenes play out like a movie. I was so engrossed in the action right from the beginning. It was impossible to put the book down. My e-reader was on fire this this one. As a devoted fan of this author, I'm awed by her ability to transport me into the story so fully.

I highly recommend this story to anyone.

HOLY MOLY I DO LOVE A GOOD KIDNAPPING SCENE AND SUSAN STOKER, SHE DELIVERED ONE AMAZING ONE IN DEFENDING CHLOE!

This book right here is my absolute favorite in this new series so far! Incredible, sigh worthy, lip-biting good, this story took my breath away and left me hanging on the edge of my seat! Ronan is by far one of the most drool-worthy heroes I have ever encountered. I could hear is delicious accent in my head and I could picture the way he looked perfectly and I was ultimately weak-kneed. The way he was so determined to find and save Chloe is beautiful and will make any red-blooded woman dream of their very own Mountain Mercenary! And Chloe...she is one great heroine. Tougher than nails, sweet, beautiful and strong, even when she was terrified, I found her completely endearing. This whole book captured my heart right from the start to the very end. Its full of sweetness, gentle romance, sexy seduction, and on-the-edge-of-your-seat-suspense. Its EXACTLY the very thing I adore about a Susan Stoker read!

Defending Chloe DELIVERED ALL THE WAY FIVE GLORIOUS SHOOTING STARS!

Oh my, yes please! I love this series so much. Ro is very protective of Chloe, even when he first met her and didn't know her yet. He is truly sigh worthy.

They keep you gripping the edge of your seat and the story line keeps you spiralling to the very end. Its intense and satisfying all in one. Cant wait for more

Defending Chloe. Great story. Ronan is a true hero and Chloe is a strong determined woman. Loved it.

I really liked the previous hook in the series so I was excited to read this one. I didn't love this book though, nor did I hate it-- it was just okay. I found it hard to believe that Chloe would be in the position she was in. If no jobs were available in Denver, then why not move? Why not try to get away when she ended up at Ro's house the first time? She had an excuse in the book, but it was flimsy at best. I liked the romance between Ro and Chloe. They had good chemistry. This wasn't a terrible book, but it wasn't a hit for me, either.

I have loved all of Susan Stoker’s books and this one does not disappoint. Defending Chloe is book 2 in the Mountain Mercenaries series and I can’t wait for number three. The romance between Chloe and Ro is sweet, fast paced and exciting. It’s a quick read so for a night in.

Chloe is a seemingly smart woman who is being abused by her younger brother. Instead of leaving the house, she decides to stay. She is then kidnapped/rescued by a mercenary.

I was not a fan of how the story began but ultimate enjoyed the book. I understand that Stoker is developing a new series, but this book was not one of her best.

I have read many book by Susan Stoker and she is a hit or miss when it comes to books. At times her series can be captivating with strong female characters who want to change the world but need a little extra help. Defending Chloe has be scratching my head. The author has everyone believe that Chloe is smart, went to college lived in the world and than out of no where she is now a sex worker. It is hard to believe someone with Chloe's background would go along with any sort of abuse let along become a sex worker.
Ronan Cross ends up being another alpha in the masses of hundreds of others in Susan Stoker series or in this genre. Nothing set him apart.
Readers either will love this story or others with struggle with the format as well as the editing in this book that is jumpy at best. The author gives readers that when its right time doesn't matter. I agree with that but when someone like Chloe who was being forced into working at a strip club and into sex worker I find it hard she is so well adjusted.
While yes this story is suppose to be romance, action, suspense I found it lacking on all accounts and would recommend you skip this one in the series.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Montlake Romance for the advance copy of Susan Stoker Defending Chloe

A few years ago, I had read a book by Ms. Stoker that was a freebie (the first in a series), and I thought it was pretty good, but not enough that I was scrambling to read more. Then I saw this opportunity to give the author another try via NetGalley and decided to do so. I'm so glad that I did! I enjoyed this book very much, and I could really tell a difference in how the author's writing style has developed. This book was difficult to put down, so I didn't. I devoured it in one afternoon. The author is not afraid of including the ugly stuff in her books, which makes the story so much more realistic. I liked Chloe and Ronan a lot--separately and together. I had not read the first book in this series, but this time around, I will indeed be scrambling to get my hands on that book and more by Ms. Stoker. Many of her books appear to be on Kindle Unlimited, so it's about to be binge time.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for providing an ARC for review.

This was a very good read with some twists and turns. I pretty much read everything this author produces, so I especially enjoy how previous characters appear in the stories, with just enough description for me to keep then straight.
