Wo-eee ! This book really keeps you guessing! There are lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing and wondering if you have it all figured or not. I liked the combination of the tough policeman and the not so tough one. The author keeps you guessing throughout the book. I enjoyed this book. Its a very good mystery. I highly recommend it.

This book was so much fun!

Matt and Marie have been married for 24 years. They have two lovely daughters that are away at college, money, and a beautiful home. What more could someone want?

"There are two dilemmas that rattle the human soul. How do you hold on to someone that won't stay? And how do you get rid of someone who won't go?" ~ Danny DeVito, The War of the Roses

Matt and Marie decide to take a weekend away in hopes of rekindling their marriage. While out hiking Marie decides to take a selfie at the cliffs edge only to lose her footing and she plummets to the raging river below. A tragic accident.

Detectives Loren and Spengler think that Matt isn't being completely truthful with them and once they find out that Matt had been married before to a woman that also died in mysterious circumstances they no longer suspect he knows more, they know that he does, and they will stop at nothing to prove his guilt.

Of course there is way more than meets the eye with this one. If you think you have it figured out then I assure you that you do not. JoAnn Chaney will keep you on your toes for sure!

"Men kill their wives, women kill their husbands - you can't be tied to someone for any significant amount of time without at least considering knocking them over the skull with a baseball bat."

Now I'll admit that we get a lot of backstory on Detective Loren about an incident that takes place twenty years prior. These chapters took me out of the story a bit but the reason for the backstory does become clear toward the end so it isn't all for naught.

~ Final Thoughts ~
If you aren't married - rejoice! If you are - you will be side-eyeing your spouse throughout this entire book! Enjoy! 4 Entertaining stars!

A wicked page-turner sprinkled with dark humor that should be the hit thriller of 2019!

You're going to want to be ahead of the hype. So preorder, be first on your library hold list, mark your calendar. I absolutely adore JoAnn Chaney’s wicked brain. Her writing is sharp, insightful, and darkly funny. And wow can she write a deliciously evil and giddy page-turner! The novel starts with two wives, decades apart, same husband. Each wife about to reach her fate at the hands of her husband. But how can a spouse possibly get away with murder? Twice?! Enter the first detective who doesn’t believe the husband’s story and then decades later two more detectives who don’t believe the husband’s current story when they find out the first story. The book brilliantly gives you slices into each characters life and brain while not only giving you the two focal mysteries but one of the current detectives is accused of murdering a previous partner. I know! I am so excited for everyone to get to experience this ride of a book!!!!

I ended up not finishing this one - for me, it started great but then it lost me in the middle. It was too procedural & slow paced for me. Apparently the ending is amazing but I found myself not caring & not wanting to finish it.

I started this book and found it a little slow and verbose to begin with. But it was interesting enough so I kept at it and what a brilliant little gem this one turned out to be! It starts off simply with a story of 2 wives over a decade apart married to the same man. You think it’s pretty obvious what’s going on so you drag yourself wondering what to expect since it seems so obvious. And then WHAM, out of nowhere there is a twist that blows you away and shakes you awake! The best part is that the surprise is not a small one, it’s a complex layered twisted tale that makes you gasp!
Initially you wonder how a man can commit the same crime twice and most likely get away with it twice!! But as you read it’s evident that this story is not that simple. The author has written a wickedly brilliant plot. She has given the readers a great perspective on marriage, partnership and on human psychology to a certain extent. I enjoyed the narration completely and found myself pausing many times to re-assess how I get about each character. I especially liked the change of narrators in the book and thy helped it be a real page turner. I enjoyed reading the insights on the 2 detectives that are handling this case and I also found their relationship with each other very insightful. The only thing that I fee did not add much to the plot overall was the subplot about Detective Loren and his past. I don’t think it added anything to the story and could be completely done away with.
This book makes you relook at marriage on the whole and makes you realize that the lines between love and hate can be very blurred in this relationship. The author has thrown light of how intense the emotions can be in a marriage and had dropped in many life lessons along the way. My absolute favorite quote from this books is this: “You can never know what a person might do, and if you try to guess, you’ll almost always get it wrong. A person’s actions can’t be choreographed; life isn’t a ballet recital, after all, it’s a rave, and you have to keep your feet moving to the beat, keep your eyes open so you don’t get knocked to the floor.”
This books toys with the reader, it teases you and taunts you and then reels you in hook, line, and sinker!
As soon as I finished this book I quickly checked what else this author has published and will definitely be reading more of her work. This is a book that you must have on your pre order list. It has the potential to become one of the best books of 2019. Enjoyed every minute of it, time most well spent.

Way too much murder in a short time was a turn off to me. The man who is involved in more than one of them, both involving his wives, is Matt, who sounds like no bargain at all as a husband and as a person.

Then another murder was thrown in by people who hadn't been introduced to us yet (or maybe I missed it as I was skimming by then) and I decided to call it quits about 25% of the way into the book. There are so many good books out there that I saw no reason to waste time reading one that I didn't care for.

Thank you NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Fans of Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone, rejoice! "As Long as We Both Shall Live" by JoAnn Chaney is a fun, stay up all night type of read. The set-up of the novel is Matt, the husband to two wives, twenty years apart, both wives who appeared to have died under mysterious circumstances. Was he responsible for their fates or was he simply unlucky in love? This book will keep you turning the pages until you get to the end. I don't say that lightly, either. It's been rare for a thriller or mystery to keep me invested until the last page, simply because there's so many of them and most of them don't tend to stand out. But I really enjoyed this one, I thought it moved quickly, had some sassy, darkly comedic moments in it, and didn't have an overreaching, convoluted plot. One thing I could have done without was a subplot involving one of the detectives, however.

Wow! This book really keeps you on your toes! At times I had to go back and re-read parts to make sure I was following. There are plenty of twists to keep you questioning whether you have figured it all out or not. I liked the combination of the no nonsense cop and the more easy going one, it makes for good chemistry. It was also interesting that there was a subplot to figure out. I recommend this if you want a quick read with a good mystery.

I enjoyed this novel much more than I expected to. Over the past few years there have been a spate of novels like The Girl on the Train, and Gone Girl, that are stories about marriages that seem wonderful on the surface, but there are psychological undercurrents within the relationship that leads to tragedy. I have read a number of these books, but have often found them disappointing. The use of an unreliable narrator in many of these books feels like a cheat to me—I don’t much enjoy sharing the thoughts of a character who is not seeing reality accurately.

In some ways this novel feels similar. It is also the story of marriages gone wrong, and the detectives who are investigating the suspicious deaths of one man’s first and second wives. And early on in this novel, I was somewhat worried that it might use some of the familiar tropes that I have seen too often recently.

But, the more I read, the more I realized that this novel pushes past the standard tropes and includes twists well beyond what I had anticipated. For me, the resolution was completely different than what I had expected, and was extremely enjoyable and satisfying. I definitely recommend checking it out.

I received a free copy from NetGalley. This one starts out a little confusing but comes together part way through and if you can get through the beginning, is an enjoyable read. Great twists and turns. Chapters clearly labeled so you know which story line is being told. A good one for the reading list on a cold winter's night.

Whoa!!!! What a wild ride the author put me on reading this page turner!
I mainly read romance novels, but love indulging in a mystery murder novel from time to time and As Long As We Both Shall Live was the perfect treat! I literally had no idea what I was getting into with this book, but the Synopsis sounded interesting because being married for over 9 years I know how challenging at times it is dealing with your spouse... So I couldn't wait to read what Chaney had in store for me.

The story takes several different twists and turns that you don't see coming.. I did get confused with the multiple characters in the plot, but I just reread certain parts that helped me remember who was who. The book goes back and forth between POVs along with past and present. It really helps give you complete understanding of the book plot. There are a few gory details in the book if that's not for you then you might want to skim over these details. Again being a primarily romance reader these are not things I normally find in my preferred genre of books.

All in all a PERFECT suspense, murder mystery novel and if you enjoyed the twisty-ness of Gone Girl then you will definitely LOVE this book!

You’re going to hear so many comparisons to “Gone Girl.,” but if I may direct your attention elsewhere. Not since Adam Ross’ “Mr. Peanut” has a book depicted the souring of a marriage in such a dark, twisted, and satisfying way. The twists and turns are absolute gut-punches. This one is wicked, wicked fun!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review. My honest review says you need to put this book on your To Read shelf!

After reading the marketing blurb, I had it in my mind that this was a tale based loosely on some story I heard somewhere (48 Hours, maybe?) about a husband whose first wife fell off a cliff. Getting rid of Wife No. 1 worked so well, he tried the same thing on Wife No. 2. Well, this story isn’t that story.

Matt’s first wife dies in a tragic accident, then 20 years later Wife No. 2 falls off a cliff. But did she really? hat the question and, oh, there are so many twists to this plot that I can’t do it justice in a review without giving any of it away. While I was reading, I thought there was a typo, and I’m like, no, that’s not right. Keep reading, and you suddenly realize it’s right, and the twist will make your head spin.

This is the tale of a marriage gone horribly wrong, with secrets and manipulation aplenty, a plot that twists every which way. The great helps you keep it all straight. here are some dark moments, then there are others that actually make you laugh. There is also a sub-story, not part of the plot, that works along the same theme but approached from a different manner.

Perfectly thrilling page-turner!

Wow that was good! I wasn’t sure I was going to like this when I started the prologue but it was clever so I kept going. So glad I did!

This story is dark but so funny too. My opinions of the character changed throughout the story, some a few times. There are many twists and shocking surprises. And they were shocking to me at least. I can’t imagine too many people will be on top of this one

The writing is fantastic! The narrators change throughout and give us an in depth look at many of the players in this story. They are all interesting characters. The plot is unlike any I’ve read before and the way it was relayed was spot on. The ending was excellent! I will look forward to the next story by this author with great anticipation!

So.... when you start reading a book and the first page is this, hold on my friends cause you are in for a wild ride!
So here’s the thing: if you want to kill your wife, don’t. Don’t kill her, don’t touch her. Ditch the bitch if you have to, get on with your life. Or make it work. But kill her? Nope. You want the opposite of Nike’s advice: Just don’t do it. Because sooner or later, no matter how careful you think you’ve been, you’ll get caught.

This was such an outstanding book. The strong characters of Marie, and Matt. And the marriage they have built.
The detectives Spengler, and Loren, I loved Loren and his smart mouth.
But you just couldn’t see what was coming, that’s the best. Usually I have it figured out. Kudos JoAnn Chaney for such an enjoyable read.

ALL TOGETHER NOW WITH FEELING.
(to find out the meaning of that, you’re gonna have to read this little thriller)

Easy to follow easy to swallow..... so say Detective Loren 😉

I knew I was in for a treat with JoAnn Chaney's opening paragraphs:

"So here's the thing: if you want to kill your wife, don't. Don't kill her, don't touch her. Ditch the bitch if you have to, get on with your life."

Man.. phew was this a ride! I think we've all be in a relationship and we've wanted to throw something at our partner's etc. Well.... I don't know about you but I CERTAINLY have!

Chaney's writing is dark, complex, witty, and darkly funny with a mix of sassiness. I don't think I've ever read a book that's marketed as a thriller that actually made me laugh. But, my friends Chaney will leave you on your toes.... with this deliciously giddy and evil thriller.

The novel begins with two wives each decades apart the were married to the same man Matt. Each wife is about to have their ultimate fate at the hands of no other than their loving husband Matt. OR is he?! So... the book sets up a portrait that you think Matt has killed his wives.... how can he possibly get away with murdering not once but twice?! But, is this dark web of lies true... can it be that plainly obvious that the husband is the killer?

The story alternates between 1995 and 2018 with dual perspectives of multiple characters which include Matt, his wife Marie, and Janice his other wife. Let me tell you this NOTHING is what it seems in this ride. Secrets, betrayals, and just enough of a twist that will leave you wanting more.

My only tiny issue with this one... was the story had a sub plot that in my opinion wasn't necessary to the storyline. It was a tad confusing and threw me off a little bit.

I think if you enjoy domestic thrillers and are a fan of secrets, lies, and deception than this is the perfect book for you.

Thank you to Netgalley and Flatiron Books for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest thoughts.

second guessing so many things, in my my marriage, even everything in my life! I couldn’t put it down!!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

I did not expect this book to be this good! What a warped, twisted, darkly funny look at marriage and life! It's billed as a thriller, but believe me parts are hilarious. I found all the characters wickedly good, especially the detective Ralph Loren. I happen to be going through a divorce after a many decades long marriage and really really really related to Marie. I don't think you need to be going through the same to enjoy this clever and marvelous book!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy to review.

In 1995, Janice and Matt were married. One year from now, Janice would be dead. Matt had been cheating on Janice after less than a year of marriage. She had been late to work to be sure that the girl Matt was cheating with had arrived. Her boss, Jesse, knew she had some problems with Matt and offered to help. She told him no but she did need to leave a bit early. Matt and Janice had kept a gun in the table drawer by the front door. Janice went in the door. A single gunshot...

2018 - On a trip to Estes Park, Colorado, Matt and his wife, Marie, took a hike and while Matt was "taking a leak" in the trees, Marie screams, "Please! Don't! Stop!" Matt runs to find a Park Ranger and tells him how Marie fell off the cliff!"

1995- "My wife, she might be dead". It looked as if Marie had been beaten and doused with gasoline in bed - almost too burned to even ID her. But, Detective Andrew Reid was on the case. The detective had been forced to let Matt go after Janice's boss, Jesse, was found almost dead in an apparent suicide - unrequited love on Jesse's part.

Now, in 2018, Matt joins the search party looking for Marie. Det. Spangler and Det. Loren are put on the case, together. Loren has a shady past with three possible murders from 30 years ago that cannot be proven...

Loren goes to Matt's office and finds a map with an X on the exact spot that Marie fell from. The insurance company had upped Marie's life insurance policy for her to 3 million dollars only months before.
on her husband's say-so. Looks grim for Matt...

When a body is found we all think that it's Marie - but it's that of a woman from Matt's office with whom he was having an affair with at the time. So where is Marie? How could she have been a part in this if Matt saw her fall and no one saw her walk on the way down the cliff? So, Det. Spangler & Det. Loren check the fast-flowing river at the cliff's bottom. Loren picks up a tiny blood stained pebble as evidence, and now they also have rock climbers searching for clues. The rock climbers say that Marie had to have had someone who "... helped her every step of the way."

Now 89 years old, Det. Reid visits the police and states that Matt & Marie were BOTH in on this...

Many Thanks to Flatiron Books and NetGalley for a very entertaining read!!!
