Summoned to Thirteenth Grave is the final book in the Charley Davidson series by author Darynda Jones. As it is the culmination of events spanning twelve books I had a lot of questions I wanted answers for, characters I wanted to visit one last time, and of course a big bang at the end. Well, I got most of those. The book was nerve wracking, frustrating, exciting, tear jerking, laugh out loud funny, and at times sexy, too. It had all the revelations I was looking for, not to mention several surprises! This is a must read for fans of the series but it isn't recommended as a stand alone. The final Charley Davidson story is EPIC! Charley and her crew have to fight an epic battle to save humankind. I was entertained with epic snarkiness from my favorite grim reaper. I swooned over the epic love between Charley and Reyes that is tested to its limits. I felt every emotion! Who knew Charley Davidson could reduce me to tears?

The story brings the closure I wanted to many of the themes that I followed throughout the series. What an Epic ending to this wonderful series...And that ENDING! OMG!!

Darynda Jones completes long fantasy series about Grim Reaper Charley Davidson with Summoned to the Thirteenth Grave. Charley and her husband Reyes have to find out what the threatening plague that is infecting those who can see into the spiritual realm, what killed Charley's mother in child birth, and whether Charley and Reyes can defeat the power of evil. Funny and horrifying at the same time, this is a great climax and conclusion to the series.

What an end to an amazing series! Ms. Jones has outdone herself overall with Charley and the gang. While this is the kind of series you never want to end, the final installment was not only epic, but also satisfying.

Charley has been exiled for 100 years, but is now coming back. She and Reyes team up again, for what appears to be the final showdown with Charley's trademark humor, sarcasm and wit. She's the girl you love and want to be friends with all the time. Her love story with Reyes makes them one of the best couples I've read about.

I highly recommend you run out and start reading Book 1-13 if you haven't already!

OMG! What an explosive and stunning conclusion to the Charley Davidson world! While readers may be disappointed that the series is ending, there is no way for readers to be disappointed in this climatic ending that is such an unexpected outcome! Readers also can’t help but agree that ending the series with the thirteenth book is quite appropriate as the number thirteen has such notoriety to it. The strong, bold characters of this series have continuously wowed readers with fun, sass, and thrills throughout this excellent series and they fulfill their reputation in the final book as they all come together to save the world.

The relationship between Reyes and Charley has always been unique and passionate and the conclusion of this book keeps that tradition going which invokes numerous emotions from readers but they have to admit that it is quite fitting. As always, the story is full of adrenaline pumping suspense, excitement and sass that readers have come to love although this book may actually surpass the overall explosive and thrilling feel of the previous stories. Maybe that’s because the series is ending or maybe it’s because of the whole world ending danger that flows throughout this fast paced story. While readers may be sorry to see Charley go, they can’t wait to find out what the author has in store for readers next.

This is the final installment in the Charley Davidson series. It doesn't disappoint. There are lots of demons, angels, ghosts and assorted other characters to entertain and delight you. There are love stories that not only span time, but also dimensions. And there's Charley - charming, witty, fierce. I love this character and will miss her greatly.

This series! I loved every single page of all thirteen books. Charley, Reyes, Cookie, Uncle Bob, and the rest of the crew will stay with me for a long time. The series is funny, sexy, and the mystery draws you in.

13th grave shredded me. The story was so suspenseful and enrapturing I hung on every word. There were so many twists and surprises in the story line. My heart was shredded by all of the goodbyes and the thought that the series was ending brought on all the emotions. Darynda didn’t disappoint on her WTF endings that I have come to love. I now need to figure out how to move on. Maybe I can do that with a series about Beep and her army?

While I have never regarded the Charley Davidson series as amazing or outstanding writing, I have applauded it for being full of fun quotes, great relationships, and excellent characters. I have also appreciated that the series seemed to have a clear beginning, middle, and end (unlike a similar series by another writer which feels as though it will only end when the author passes away). And so, knowing that this was always meant to be the last book in the series, I have looked forward to seeing how the author would 1) tie up all the little loose ends left along the way, and 2) give the reader the great battle that has been coming since book 1. Unfortunately, this book does neither. Instead, a fluff of a plot line is introduced, and a variety of characters are pulled back in, but the resolution never comes. Instead, the book ends with a whimper instead of a bang, and the reader now knows that everything has been leading to .... a new series. What a letdown! Do not mistake me: when the new series comes out, I will read it because I am invested in the characters and the story. However, I do it grudgingly.
If you have read this series, then you will read this book, no matter how good (or bad) the reviews might be. You haven't come this far just to stop now, and you shouldn't. However, you should be prepared for the non-ending, the teaser for what will come next, and the frustration of having waited so long only to be told that you have to wait even longer.
For all of these reasons, I give this book a solid 3 stars. To rate it less would be unfair to the work done, but to give it more would be lying to the fans of this author and this series.

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave is the final novel of a thirteen book series written by Darynda Jones. The series is a fun, light, humorous, romantic romp about Charley Davidson. Charley is a PI as well as the grim reaper. She approaches life with a sharp wit and disregard for many serious things.

Through the series follows Charley as she meets and falls in love with Reyes and gives birth to their daughter. Charley solves many cases and grows a lot through the series. There are also several series long questions and quests that all come together in the last book. The final tale in the series delivers a fantastic and satisfying ending.

Darynda Jones delivers a fantastic conclusion to this series I love so much. This book is so fun and engaging I had such a hard time putting it down. In her usual style, the book is fast paced, and full of mystery, romance, humor, and adventure. I have loved every one of the thirteen books about Charley Davidson and will miss her so much. I can’t wait to see what Darynda Jones has in store.

This is a great book with well-developed characters, I am sad that it is the last book, but looking forward to the authors new series. Once I started reading this book I didn’t want to put the book down until the end. I can’t wait to read then next book by this author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The reader has to read this series in order, why? Because this is giving clear answers about many of the characters, who they are, who they were in life, closing up questions from the very first book, and if you didn't read the previous you wont appreciate the surprises, or be stunned by the reveals. There are many events taking place in this book, just like the previous ones, with individual as well as group involvement all intertwining with each other. We as readers have to remember Charlie and Reyes aren't really humans, they are both gods in their dimensions and we can't put our human expectations on their decisions, they are seeing the big picture and planning for Beep and her warriors for the future of mankind. I felt Charlie was finally getting it after talking to God in the last book and her dealings with heaven in this one. I will miss the whole crew, but I can hope there will be future books based in this rich world Ms Jones has created and explored with us. The secondary characters were evolved enough to carry their own novella or novel.

Oh how I love and hate Darynda Jones right now...but pretty much all love! This was not my favorite of the series, somewhat because it's ending, but mostly because it made me cry lots, for many reasons. I'm definitely going to miss the snark queen, and her lovable family, but I definitely expect to see Charley and Reyes when *fingers crossed* Beeps story gets told. I want to see how that unfolds with Osh. Highly recommended series and author!

Let me start by saying that I love the Charley Davidson series! I read the first 11 in a matter of days, then agonized over the wait for books 12 and 13. Charley and Reyes are built into such a rich world, and I really enjoyed how well Darynda Jones added to the complexity of the world with each new book.

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave is a lovely end to this series, though I'm sad to see it end!

Per usual, Charley and Reyes team up to defeat the latest big bad, but there are perhaps even more supernatural reveals than usual in this installment. Despite those reveals, in typical Charley Davidson fashion, we are left with some questions at the end. Thankfully, things are *mostly* wrapped up, and well-placed for a series featuring Beep.

Overall, Summoned to Thirteenth Grave is a solid 4-star read. If you've gotten this far in the series, I think it's safe to say you'll enjoy this final installment! If you're debating starting the series, I'd recommend it to anybody looking for unique paranormal, as long as you're good with loosely-established laws of the realm that many powerful beings can break regardless of the "rules". This series is a wonderful balance of action, angst and humor with the occasional steam thrown in.

I received this ARC from Ms. Jones, via NetGalley, and this is my honest review. I have to start by stating that this series MUST be read in order because each book carries spoilers/continuation of what had previously transpired.I am sad that this series has come to an end, but I loved the way in which Ms. Jones did this. True to how I felt reading each and every one of her books, Ms. Jones had me laughing, holding my breath in anticipation, and a little perturbed with some of the characters. I will miss Charlie’s sass and snarkiness along with how she will do everything in her power to help others and keep her family and friends safe. Charlie and Reyes's relationship has had it's ups and downs, but they have always prevailed and stood strong together. I will miss not only Charlie, but everyone else that made this series come to life. I will not go in to details about the book, but I found it well written and it definitely ended on a strong note. I look forward to any spin-offs that Ms. Jones writes. I highly recommend this book to those that have already read the other books, and to those 18+ due to language and some sexual scenes. Thank you Ms. Jones and NetGalley for introducing me to the Grim Reaper world. I thoroughly enjoyed this series, and I am sad to see it end. I look forward to reading more of your work.

This is the final book in Charlie and Reyes’s story. After being exiled for one hundred years, Charlie returns to earth. She was in the darkness for at least one hundred years, in reality, she was only gone ten days. So it begins. There are many loose ends to solve in this final chapter. We find out how Charlie’s mother actually died, who Uncle Bob really is, who Rocket and his sister are and why he constantly writes names on the walls, what happened to Gemma in her office, along with her usual detective work, as well as the prophecy about the up coming battle. All of these events leading up to the war against Lucifer.
I read this book in one night. I couldn’t put it down. I was anxious to see what was going to happen next. During many parts of the story, I actually said out loud, “no way.” What happened to Gemma and who Uncle Bob really was had me pausing a minute to process. This book wrapped up a lot of loose ends and is preparing us for the spinoff of Beep’s books. It was very hard to write this review without giving away some of the juicy parts. Anyone who has read the other twelve books, will not be disappointed with the resolution of what happened to the characters we have come to know. The last few pages tell us what happened to Charlie and Reyes and the major decision they chose to make to keep Beep safe. We are also left with a feeling of anticipation as Darynda Jones writes her last sentence, “Where’s Osh?” Looking forward to Beep’s series.

This was a very fitting end to a series that I have very much enjoyed and a couple that will always be one of my favorites! There are exciting adventures, humor, surprising revelations, twists and turns and a few tears shed while reading this book but it ended in a HFN way that left me satisfied but hoping that it won’t be too long before we can read about Beep’s spin off.

This book takes place right after the shocking ending in the previous book where Charley was banished from Earth. There isn’t a lot I can say without giving away too much but Charley does end up back on Earth to help everyone deal with the hell dimension that is taking over. There were a few side tangents but they all played back into the overall story and I really liked that it didn’t have a large side story but instead stayed focused (or as focused as Charley can ever be) on the main plot. We get closure on a lot of stories and a good look at the future for most of the secondary characters. I actually thought Charley had matured a little in this book (which I had been hoping for) without taking away the crazy quirkiness that is Charley. I also loved the one on one time Charley and Reyes had together in this book and the issues with them I’d had trouble with in previous books were completely absent.

Overall, this was a wonderful ending to a fun series that I’m sad to see end but so happy that it ends on a high note.

Told in the same wonderful sarcastic, witty, and oh so snarky style I have grown to love, Charley and Reyes take on the their biggest threat yet all while keeping their relationship ultra steamy and highly caffeinated. After being sent to a hell dimension she not-so-affectionately names Marmalade for an eternity, Charley is back on earth with an even bigger problem. A hell dimension has opened on earth causing a deadly plague to spread rapidly. With the clock ticking, Charley and Reyes have to fight off demons, save their daughter, and keep their family and friends safe. But of course things don’t go smoothly. There’s a suspected serial killer to track down and in doing so, Charley discovers a long-lost relative to Rocket, a friendly ghost who keeps track of the departed. There’s also the ghost of a young boy who claims to be the son of a young woman who went missing a decade earlier. And if this isn’t enough for Charley to deal with, she only has three days to get it all done. Yep, just three short days to save the world so her daughter, most commonly known as Beep, can fight Lucifer and save the world herself. It’s kind of a lot to throw at one person!

The best part of this series is watching Charley interact with those around her. She is fiercely loyal, incredibly protective, and won’t think twice about making a snarky comment about you. Charley is brave and intelligent and has no problem with jumping in to a situation head first. And her husband? The two of them are so hot for each other they melted the Sahara desert. Really. It’s a lake of glass now. I have really loved going on this wild ride with Charley and the crew and Darynda Jones does an excellent job in wrapping it all up. I'm crying inside. This is so bittersweet but here goes:

Have you ever read a book that makes you really, REALLY try to remember that you’re reading on an electronic device you would rather not have to replace instead of a durable paperback that will survive being flung across the room? Multiple times. During the first half of the book. No? Give it time because this book….this is a throwing book. This is a making faces while reading, crying, yelling at the pages and flinging it across the room kind of book. Now, I’m not a stranger to getting mad at the book I’m reading. *Fun Fact: I actually did throw Trouble With Twelfth Grave when I got to the end of it because I didn’t know what else to do. I’m still angry.* This book, though, I’m mad at it for different reasons. Darynda has taken Paranormal Fantasy to an entire new level in these last few books. It’s almost like one day someone made a bet that she couldn’t throw every wild and crazy element she could think of into a book and people would still read it. I hope the winnings were good. Anyway, my point here is that I’m used to the crazy. I’m used to this world being so far out there that nothing could surprise me. I trusted that. I trusted the characters I thought I knew so well. I trusted you, Darynda….and you broke that trust. And I am not happy. You know what you did. All of it.

Aside from being angry at this book, I did really enjoy it…through the tears…and angry faces…and the really loud swearing. What I love most about Charley, besides her perfected dead-pan humor, is that no matter what fresh hell she has found herself in she will still take a case. I love that about her. The world is coming to an end, people are dying, there is a literal hell on Earth in the making but some little ghostie needs help and, damn it, she will do what it takes to help him. No matter how much is on their plates, the group always makes the time. Even those who can’t interact with the ones they are helping. *Insert standing ovation for Cookie right here. She doesn’t get nearly enough credit for her awesomeness.

Everything about this book was amazing. Even the parts that made me want to throw things. I still can't believe it's over but I think Darynda did an AMAZING job at ending it. I will admit that I wasn't originally thrilled about the many, many different ways things went, but the more I thought about it the more I honestly couldn't think of a better way to say good-bye to this amazing crew and I am so happy I was able to be on this ride.

This series has been one of those I’ll never forget. I only first read it last year but those two weeks of Charley & Reyes was one my favourites of 2018! Being able to read book after book with amazing plots and characters was thrilling for me, since normally I’m reading a series that hasn’t got that many books in it.
This book sadly is the finale of the ‘Charley Davidson’ Series and I can say for I fact that Darynda Jones gives us a perfect last book that will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions! I don’t want to spill one spoiler for you, so I won’t say anything more except do make sure you’ve read ALL the book starting from ‘First Grave on the Right’.
