We find Charlie returning to earth after being kicked off for 100 years, and lets just say she isn't happy. She thought it was for eternity but now that she is back there are a multitude of questions that she wants answers for. What happened to her mom, will she ever see her daughter or Reyes again, and what about the rest of her family? Follow along in Charlies journey and find the answers that we all seek to her questions. Will the answers bring her closure along with the readers or will we all be heartbroken in the end? I've loved Charlies story from the beginning and hate that it has to end but I can't be upset with how it was written and understand when an author must move on. In this last book of the series the author truly doesn't disappoint, with amazing twists and turns throughout she delivered an ending that could only be Charlies.

Fun-filled, laugh out loud funny and fighting evil, what else could you ask for for the conclusion of the Charley Davidson season.

I have to admit, I'm a little conflict knowing this is the last in the series but Jones wraps up this zany, outlandish, utterly addicting series with panache that we've come to expect.

Charlie and Reyes are about to face the ultimate show down and it becomes a family affair.

Finish the Charley Davidson series just makes you want to pick them all up and doing a re-read.

4.5 stars--SUMMONED TO THE THIRTEENTH GRAVE is the thirteenth and final instalment in Darynda Jones’ contemporary, adult CHARLEY DAVIDSON urban fantasy series focusing on part time private investigator, full-time grim reaper, and omnipotent god Charley Davidson. SUMMONED TO THE THIRTEENTH GRAVE should be not read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of book twelve – THE TROUBLE WITH TWELFTH GRAVE.

SOME BACKGROUND: The Charley Davidson series is the continuing story of Charley Davidson’s life as the Grim Reaper and private investigator; the corporeal spirits who have yet to pass; and the man to whom she has pledged her undying love-the son of Satan-Reyes Alexander Farrow. Charley has recently discovered she and her hunky husband Reyes Farrow aka the Son of Satan, are gods-powerful, omnipotent beings whose futures, along with their infant daughter Elwyn Alexandra (aka Little Beep) are destined to either destroy the world, or bring peace to the heavens and earth.


Told from first person point of view (Charley Davidson) SUMMONED TO THE THIRTEENTH GRAVE follows Charley and her husband Reyes as they try to stop the end of the world. At the end of THE TROUBLE WITH TWELFTH GRAVE Charley was sent to one of the ‘Hell dimensions’ for disobeying the Almighty’s directives, after Reyes accidentally opened a portal to Hell allowing Lucifer’s minions access to this world. Upon her return to Earth’s dimension, Charley and Reyes must uncover the source of the illness and demonic possession of a number of people in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as Charley is pursued by a not-so-otherworldly spirit. As Charley’s group of intrepid friends are brought together in preparation to ‘bug out’ of Albuquerque, they begin to establish a timeline, and commence their own investigation into the who, how and why including the appearance of a young boy who may or may not have already departed to the great beyond. What ensues are Charley and Reyes’ attempts to destroy that which cannot be destroyed, and the realization that our leading couple may have to sacrifice themselves to save the people they love.


All of the major plotline, secondary and supporting characters from the previous twelve books make an appearance or say goodbye: Cookie and Ubie, Amber and Quentin, Garrett Swopes, Charley’s sister Gemma, former slave demon Osh, Rocket and his sister Blue, gang-banger Angel, Strawberry Shortcake, Mr. Wong, Officer David Taft, FBI Special Agent Kit Carson, Artemis the dog, and three members of the Bandits MC: Donovan, Michael and Eric. I am going to miss these colorful and charismatic friends but the author has plans for a spin-off, and I am hoping for the reappearance of many of the aforementioned characters although some of their stories have come to a close.

As per Darynda’s style of writing, the back and forth interaction between characters is energetic and playful. The author’s use of euphemisms, sarcasm and sass are fun; are blindingly entertaining and, on their own, are worth the price of admission. SUMMONED TO THE THIRTEENTH GRAVE answers some of Charley’s most heart breaking questions including the circumstances surrounding her mother’s death, and the birth of a god.

SUMMONED TO THE THIRTEENTH GRAVE is an exciting but bittersweet conclusion to Charley and Reyes’ story. Most of our questions have been answered but there remain a number of open –ended pathways that continue to meander in different directions: Osh and Beep, Quentin and Amber, and my favorite MC member Donovan and the Bandits. Beep’s army remains behind to protect their charge as Charley and Reyes come to an understanding as to what must be done. SUMMONED TO THE THIRTEENTH GRAVE is a dramatic and entertaining ensemble storyline.

This book was amazing yet sad at the same time! Amazing in the fact that Darynda Jones never cease to amaze me and all the surprises that popped up and were revealed in this book. Sad because this is the last Charlie Davidson book!! This series has to be one of my all time favorites and now I can’t wait to see what Darynda has up her sleeve for us next!!

This one’s a bittersweet review for me, folks. I ADORE this series, and this book lived up to every expectation I had for it...but it’s the last book in the series. So, while I’m sad that, like all good things, the series has come to an end, I’m so freakin’ happy to have read it from start to finish.
I’m not going to talk about the plot, because if you’re a fan of the series I’ll give too much away, and if you’re not a fan of the series, you’ll just be confused because there’s A LOT going on (all of it fabulous, of course). What I’ll talk about instead is all the other stuff I adore about the series:

A strong female lead:
Charley is the strongest character in the book. She has powers that not even she understands to their fullest potential. She doesn’t need Reyes to swoop in and save her. He does from time to time, because that’s just who he is, but if he wasn’t there, Charley would figure things out on her own. There are few things I love in my romance novels more than a strong heroine, and Charley is one of the strongest I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading about.

Reyes:
Reyes is, quite possibly, the sexiest alpha male hero who has ever graced a page. There’s nothing I don’t thoroughly enjoy about him. But besides all the yummy hotness, I think what I most love about Reyes is his willingness to let Charley be Charley. He doesn’t try to change her, even though his life would be WAY easier if she would tone down some of her natural self-sacrificing tendencies. He loves her for who she is and he celebrates rather than laments her uniqueness. Charley and Reyes = #RelationshipGoals

The friendships:
This entire series portrays some of the strongest, healthiest friendships I’ve ever read about. Sure, these are people who are thrown into crazy-ass situations, but their loyalty to one another remains intact no matter what. It’s inspirational.

Pee-your-pants hilarity:
Charley is hilarious and snarky and wonderfully weird. If you don’t laugh when she speaks, seek medical help because there’s something wrong with you.

Was the ending exactly what I wanted? Honestly? No. But was it probably the best possible ending for all the characters? Yes. And it set the stage nicely for what I hope (and pray to the book gods) will be a spin-off series featuring Charley and Reyes’ daughter. (I will 1-click the CRAP out of that spin-off series)

So, with a heavy heart, I bid farewell to the Charley Davidson series. You’ve given me hours and hours of reading enjoyment. You’ve never let me down. And Reyes? I think I’ll miss you most of all…

Darynda Jones has done a mind blowing job with this book. A brilliant finish to the entire series with just an opening for an off-shoot with the last line..

The main story had Reyes starting a zombie apocalypse and Charley stopping it and the reveal of Charley's mother's killer which shocked me so much that now I have adrenaline coursing my body...

Charley, as in the previous 12 books, was the best main character, she was funny, bold, kickass and in this, she was doubly so as she would do anything to protect her daughter Beep. Her love life... Omg... Omg... I have always been massively jealous of her relationship with Reyes. It was so perfect. Darynda Jones has made me long for such a love... Sighhh..

This book has Charley's entire family on her side fighting the last war. I loved every bond she shared with her motley of friends and family. My niggles never showed up in the entire read, a few tears sure did. I loved the entire series.. They rocked!!

Emotional moments, sexy moments, scorching hot moments, along with a complete weaving of all the plot lines made this book the perfect climax to the series (pun intended... Come on it is Reyes and his smoldering glances!!)
What's next, Darynda? So excited!!

Spoiler Free Review! The thrilling conclusion to Charley and Reyes story. A bittersweet moment for any reader who has been invested in the weird and wacky goings on from our favorite Grim Reaper. This series has been essentially, at its core, a story about love and family, especially those you chose as your own. While I am sad that Charley's end has come, she deserves the break, she's been through some stuff!!! I look forward to the future...with Beep hopefully and guys, how funny is it going to be to see Reyes with a teen daughter.....and dating!

Way back at the beginning of this series I couldn't wait to read the next one. Charley was funny, full of attitude and I really enjoyed them. Around the seventh book in the series I started to find a bit less eagerness for reading the next in the series. What it boils down to, at least for me, this series ran too long. It lost its way. When I had the chance to request this, the final book pulling things together, I wanted to find closure. Honestly, I was disappointed. I didn't want to ever say goodbye to Charley and the gang, the characters I had loved at the start. In this goodbye it all felt off balance and rushed. This great series deserved a more satisfying finale.
Would I recommend this series? You bet I would. An author isn't always in sync with their readers when writing a series. I fell out of sync and as a reader I wanted the story to turn out differently and that's on me, my grumbling and resistance to saying goodbye to Charley. Will I want to read a spin off series if one comes along? I'm honestly not sure. One thing I can say for certain - this is one series that has to be read in order. I will really miss the Charley I met on page one, book one. She was a great character.

What a powerful ending to an entertaining series! It had been a while since I had read the 12th installment so I had forgotten how it ended. Reading the first and last books in the series for this review was a little bittersweet. It showed just how much Charley and grown... and just how much she had remained the same.

I'm not sure Charley ever seems to get a break in so far as there always seems to be one crisis or another requiring her attention, and this story is much the same. Reyes managed to unleash a hell on earth when he broke out of the god glass, and it is now up to them to get that portal closed down.

I laughed... I cried... I *think* I saw an opening for a spin-off series... Well, at least that is MY wishful thinking regarding the ending of the last book in one of my favorite series of all time. ;)

I have loved this series for years now and this book did not disappoint! Still as fun and witty as book one! I can’t believe this is the end! The book is fast paced and it still feels like there is more story to be had, hopefully Charlie will make some cameos in any future books by Ms Jones!

Of course all good things come to a end but whyyy? Anyways I have been hooked totally since book one in a few months I devoured them. It had been ages since a series had me like this one. At times I wanted to slap Charley and also her honey. You get the finale you want but also at same time they will be missed. Gonna miss too the t shirt thingys too. It wasn't all drama but has Charley humor too. Have bandages too from some of the scenes from the books with her and Reyes so it had it all too but again one that you will savor is this one.

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave concludes the Charley Davidson series. I will miss Charley and her crazy antics, but it was definitely time to conclude the series. As with many of the last books, there are tons of characters with new ones introduced that can be tough to keep straight. I believe the ending leaves it open for a spin off series for Beep. I won't give any spoilers, but the ending is bittersweet for sure.

So, I am late to these novels/series and read them all over the course of the last two months. I have never really done this with a series, I usually read them as they come out, but for some reason I did not with this series. Not sure if I liked reading them all at once or not, now I have nothing to look forward to...

I thought ending the series on the thirteenth book was a great idea. It was also the perfect ending for Charley and the whole gang. And really the whole gang all deserve their own series, each is so fun and interesting to read. I do not want to give away too much for those who have not read this final book. I think if you have read the series it gives you exactly what you expect, exciting, fun, sexy, dangerous, snarky and just so darn good. Also, a very satisfying ending.

This really is one of the best written series that make you want to read them and find out what is going to happen next. I highly recommend this book and series. Now, I am sad though, what will I read next???

I truly love this series and I'm admittedly sad that this is the final book in Charley and Reyes' story (or is it???). They are one of my all-time favorite book couples - both of their characters have so much depth and I just love reading them. Charley is a study in contradictions: she's both kick-ass and incredibly loving/giving as well as both brave and incredibly ridiculous. And Reyes is just {sigh}.

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave was both sweet and bittersweet for me and wraps up the story pretty nicely although, without giving away anything, it wasn't quite the full resolution I was hoping for (although in retrospect, I shouldn't have been too surprised at what wasn't resolved). It answered some outstanding questions from the series and in doing so, provided some surprises and even potentially leaves the door open for future "related" books (fingers crossed).

I commend Ms. Jones for building a world that was both incredible but believable, and for writing a series of books that literally had me laughing out loud at times while reading them. I hope we see Charley and Reyes again sometime in the future, even if it's just as a cameo.

I love this series Daryinda Jones is fantastic. I’m really sorry to see it come to an end. I can’t wait to see what comes next from this author. I highly recommend this book. It’s a series and YES you do want to read them in order! That will make you laugh, they will tug at your heart strings, and yes at times that will have you blushing and crossing your legs from the hottness (winking). Definitely do yourself a favor and start reading or listening to these ASAP

One could not have asked for a better ending to the series. (Although, that last sentence...what the heck?!) Loose ends were tied up and questions answered. An epic battle, a case solved, old friends reunited. Darynda does not pull any punches, if it belongs in the story, it will happen. Just when you think she wouldn't dare "go there", she does!

Wow! I am blown away! This is the final book in the Charley Davidson series, and I love the way it ended. As you can probably guess, I really can’t say too much as I don’t want to give away anything. However, I can say the book is filled with moments of great joy, terrible heartache, unexpected revelations, and, of course, wonderful writing. I love the way the series wrapped up, and I am pretty sure the series will continue with Beep, especially with the very last sentence…or should I say question? I can’t say good enough things about this last installment. I do recommend if you haven’t read the first 12, do so before reading this one! You won’t regret one minute of it! I highly recommend this book and this series; both are great! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.

I’m in a wonderfully awful place right now. I’ve loved every moment of this series and reaching its conclusion is bittersweet on its own. (I can’t even imagine what this feels like for the author.)

So much takes place in this final installment. It still has the wonderful Charley Davidson humor as well as the steam of her relationship with Reyes. But there is so much more this time around. Even as the ending drew nearer, I could feel it in every word written as well as their tone that we were entering a new place that this series hasn’t taken us to before. I found myself absolutely sobbing through all the bad, the good and the in between. I have a love hate relationship with this author for making me fall in love with every single one of these characters, not just Charley and Reyes, and then bringing it all to an end.

I’m not reviewing the actual storyline here in any real sense of the word because if you’ve reached this point in the series, then I encourage you not to read anything that’s going to spoiler it for you. And really, no matter the actions these characters take, you’re going to be an emotional mess like myself simply because their story has reached its end. If your checking out reviews to learn if this series is “safe”, then pull up book one as quickly as you can and dig in. You can’t find a better time and any delay will only having you kicking yourself later.

So, we are at the end of this amazing series and I just have to say that this blew me away. I loved the ending, I loved the middle, I loved the beginning! Where this book does not have a happy ever after ending, what book with Grave in the title would?
Charlie's growth as a person, she has never lacked in self-esteem, she has grown into such an amazingly skilled person/God from her first step out of bed answering Ubie's summons. Confident in her powers, in what she has to do, and what is right. I felt her and Reyes ended up right where they were destined to be from the beginning
I cannot give too much away, but I cried my way through the last half of the book, had intensely excited, emotional exclamations with every page turn and immediately started the series over again because I am not ready for it to be over.
Well done Darynda, this book is amazing and I refer it to everyone I know, 5 stars!

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave is the final installment in the Charley Davidson series. I strongly suggest you begin this series with First Grave on the Right and read the books in the series in order to fully understand the world Darynda Jones has built. I'll keep this review spoiler free for this book, but it could include information from other books in the series.

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave picks up at a time after the previous book, where Charley was banished from the earthly plain for breaking the biggest rule set by Jehovah. Charley does return to earth just in time to help solve the issue with the demons trying to take over New Mexico, or possibly the rest of the globe.

I really don't feel like I can say more about the happenings in the book without giving away spoilers. I will say I felt like Ms. Jones wrapped up many of the character's storylines in a satisfying way. I will say I was totally thrown by a few things that we discovered in Summoned to Thirteenth Grave. I also found myself feeling really emotional with a few of the character wrap-ups. I loved seeing Charley and Reyes back together again, and finally felt like both characters had finally grown up a bit. They communicated much better than in past books and I felt like they both had matured.

While I felt like Ms. Jones did a really great job with the wrap up of this series, I do feel like the climatic fight scene was a bit too easily won. I'm really hopeful that the rumors of a spinoff with Beep are true and we get to spend time with favorite characters again in the future.
