Six school friends go on a camping trip and after a night of partying, one is missing in the morning; the discovery of her body thirty years later reopens a cold case investigated by a former classmate who envied the group from afar in a gripping thriller for readers of The Woman in Cabin 10 and the Lynley series.
One night during the scorching summer of 1983, a group of teenagers go camping in the forest. The evening starts like any other--they drink, they dance, they fight, they kiss. Some of them slip off into the woods in pairs, others are left jealous and heartbroken. But in the morning, the youngest in the group, Aurora, has disappeared. Her friends claim that she was safe the last time they saw her, right before she went to sleep. An exhaustive investigation is launched but no trace of the teenager is found. The search is eventually called off.
Thirty years later Aurora's body is unearthed and Jonah Sheens is the detective put in charge of solving the long-cold case. Back in 1983, he had played a part in the search as a young cop, and their small-town community meant he had known the teenagers--including Aurora--personally. Now, he's determined to finally get to the truth of what happened that night. His investigation brings the members of the camping party back to the forest, where they will be confronted once again with the events of that night--events that left one of them dead, and all of them profoundly and forever changed
my thoughts
wow just wow , i was up all night read it , just couldn't stop had to know what happened next.. And it didn'tlet me down ,not once , i can see why it might not be everyones pick or like but i loved it loved the story , loved how i was pulled into the story , loved how it kept me questioning everything i thought knew about what happened to Aurora,With that said i want to say thinks to Netgalley for letting me read it and review it can't wait for the next book in this series.

It took me quite awhile to finish this book, although that was not the fault of the book itself. I was immediately intrigued by the plot, and in times when I wasn’t able to read as much as I wanted, I found myself constantly thinking over the events of the book and puzzling over the characters. The author did a masterful job of provoking distrust of certain characters, while keeping the guilty party safe from suspicion. I read many thrillers and found this one to be unique and exciting up until the very end.

This book will grip you from the start and you'll have to keep reading in order to find out what happened! I both loved and hated this book because it was so hard to put down that when I had to, I kept thinking about how it was going to end and I couldn't wait to get back to it!

Holy Flashbacks, Batman!
Seriously, there are a lot of flashbacks here. I did my best in reading them, simply because they tended to be where most of our clues were. But I admit I got tired of them.
We do have a solid mystery here as we try to find out what happened to a young girl many years ago. There are quite a few suspects, but you’ll find that our *who* is pretty obvious from the start.
I did keep reading, mainly to see if I was right. I just wished the author had found a slightly different way to tell the story.

She Lies In Wait is a who done it story that keeps you guessing. I wanted to keep reading as much as I could at a time. someone in a camping group killed this young girl and reading about who she was and how she died is so heartbreaking. Even after finishing the book I feel angry and sorrow at the loss.

3.5/5 Overall, I enjoyed this novel, but I think it could have been punched up a little bit more. It read like a standard police procedural, which was fine, but I think with a little bit more plot and character development and some unexpected twists it could have been a lot better.

Great storyline. Lots of twists and turns. Got confused at one point so had to go back and read it but overall grear

The story was good. Well written with an air of mystery and angst as well. I think the characters were well developed and the story flowed very well. One doe st think of murder, lies and secrets within a group of teenage girls. I would read more from this author.

This was a good read. Although I did enjoy it, I couldn’t help feeling I’ve read it before. The storyline was much to familiar from many other books. I do recommend it, but not a stand out., stay with me kind of book. Thank you for the opportunity to read.

Interesting novel but def not a thriller--more of police procedural that tells the story of a 14 year old girl who had disappeared 30 years ago from the present day when her body is found. The chapters alternate between the present police investigation which is underway and the camp out in the woods of 7 teens thirty years prior when Aurora disappeared. There are many twists to the story. This book reminded me SO much of Final Girls and The Last Time I Lied both by Riley Sager, both of which followed the same type of thriller/murder in the past type of stories, that I had a hard time NOT comparing them. The story moves slowly as Det. Jonah Sheens attempts to piece together the events of Aurora's last night alive last seen with her sister and her sister's friends all partying out in the woods. I was not that crazy about any of the characters, all having little background info or depth, plus the alternating timelines made it hard for me to keep all the characters straight. I also figured out the story well before the ending so the suspense part was not there for me either. There have been many similar plot lines in books that I have recently read, so I was disappointed over all. Just not the book for me.

Very interesting book that kept me guessing the entire time... I much liked the interaction between all of the characters, present and past. Looking forward to reading more books in this series!

She lies in wait was a good easy read, like a beach or sick day read. A good debut novel, I look forward to watching Gytha Lodge grow as a writer!

I was very disappointed in this book. The plot was easy to figure out by 25% mark. The writing style was really good but the plot was lacking. Not very enjoyable on the whole.

This book flowed seamlessly between multiple narrators over the course of 30 years. Everyone wants to know what happened to Aurora Jackson, and it is not until the end of the book that Gytha Lodge's web is finally untangled. I simply could not put this book down!

Thirty years ago, a few teenagers went camping and the youngest was never found. The book alternates chapters between Aurora's last hours on Earth and the hunt for the murderer in present day after her body is found. Besides this mystery, other small mysteries are included along the way.

“””loss does strange things to people””” 1983 (who doesn’t want a look back at the 80’s lol) seven kids go camping. Partying, dancing, fights and couples wandering off. The next morning Aurora is gone. Thirty years later her body is finally found, and a small town cop is out to find out her truth. He knew them all as kids and stops at nothing to seek out her killer. Page turner for sure. This debut novel is fast paced and well written. Can’t wait for the next in this series.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.
Who killed Aurora Jackson? This is a 30-year old "cold case" that suddenly becomes hot when the skeletal remains of Aurora are found in the woods. The book is a UK police procedural which introduces DCI Jonah Sheens and his team of 3 assistants to the world. It is interesting to see how they react to the case and each other. As a young detective, Sheens was involved in the original investigation and knows, to some extent, all of the key players (i.e., suspects). The newest member of the team, a young woman, not only has to help with the investigation and learn how the team works, but also, whether she can trust her new boss. I look forward to further adventures brought to us by Gytha Lodge.

She Lies in Wait had the potential of a fantastic thriller; 6 friends + 1 little sister go camping in 1983 only to wake up to the sister gone. 30 years later, the body is found right by the campsite and everyone becomes a suspect. First off, the strengths. I liked the premise despite it being a bit redundant from other recent works. There are two or three novels I have read recently with similar storylines. This one was good. Similar but still good. I also liked the style of crime writing which had the focus on the detective and how he was going to solve the case. The strongest part of the plot was the ease in which the author went back and forth in the timeline, explaining the story from the victims point of view.
Some things that weren't the best...the story is long and at times the pacing is slow. It can be chaotic because there are just too many elements of the story that seem to be a big mash of anything and everything "thrilleresque" thrown together. Overall, it was a good easy vacation read for me and although not my favorite thriller, I do look forward to what the author can do next.

She Lies in Wait is a psychological thriller told in a past & present storyline. Six friends go camping one night with one of their little sisters tagging along, and she doesn’t come home. Thirty years later her body is uncovered in a spot that only the 6 friends knew about. Is there a killer amongst them?
This book was decent. There was nothing that stood out in either a good or bad way. None of the police characters were developed very well. Their personal lives seemed very awkward to me.
