Challenging the Doctor by Patricia W. Fischer is a 2018 Tule Publishing publication.

I love medical romance/dramas, but they aren’t as plentiful as other romance sub-genres and Harlequin pretty much has that market cornered. So, I was happy to have found this series released by Tule publishing.

Edmund is looking for a change of pace after barely retaining his medical license. His sister, Lucy, just picked up and moved to Marietta, a small town in Montana. He’s not sure why she finds the place so appealing, but he’s willing to stay there for a while to fill in for another doctor.

Before he even makes it to Lucy’s home, he meets Jade Phillips, a woman who instantly intrigues him. Jade has a very troubled past and is also coping with her ne’er do well brother, whose crimes are dangerously escalating.

Unfortunately, ‘Challenging the Doctor’ was not much of a challenge for me. Edmund immediately rubbed me the wrong way after making remarks to his sister about being saddled with someone who has a medical condition. I wondered what Edmund would advise her to do if she had a child with asthma?

We aren’t ‘saddled’ with those we care about, and this coming from a doctor, no less. From that point on, I never warmed up to him.

I’m not necessarily a huge fan of ‘insta-love’ and the immediate attraction between Jade and Edmund, two people who had been severely burned in past relationships didn’t quite ring true.

The story line involving Jade’s brother was the most compelling part of the story. The medical or hospital scenes that I love were not prominent, which was also a bit of a disappointment. That said, this one works for those times when one’s mind is overloaded or would make a nice ‘airport’ read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I also purchased a copy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I read it in one sitting. The characters were believable and the plot was interesting. Edmund and Jade both had painful pasts. What I really enjoyed is that there was open communication between them. Their pasts were discussed and overcome. I could really see the chemistry between the two of them right from the beginning.

There was a scene when Edmund had dinner with his sister and her boyfriend that was a little disappointing to me about Edmund but because the book had a dual POV format, I was able to completely understand where he was coming from. While I may not agree with his opinion again at least I understood him better.

I really have to go back to read the first book in this series to meet Edmund's sister and Jade's best friend get together. It sounded really good.

I do recommend this book to anyone over the age of 18.

There was a lot to like in Challenging The Doctor, book two in the Marietta Medical series. I admired Edmund Davidson for the way he came to grips with having been duped by a former girlfriend, and for his unstinting loyalty to family and to Jade Carter, the ER nurse he meets and falls in love with on arrival in Marietta Montana. By the way, that setting is also something to like - a gorgeous small town set in scenic Montana and filled with a community of people who genuinely care for each other.
Getting back to Jade, Edmund’s love interest, here was a woman I could respect for her grit and determination to get her life on the right track after one misfortune after another besets her. At the same time though, I truly wanted to bash her around her ears for not standing up to her dropkick brother Junior and telling him to take himself elsewhere and now. Clearly Jade is a woman who strongly supports the notion of family and the hope that her younger brother will one day wake up to himself so I guess she has to be respected for her loyalty.
Things I didn’t like about this story included some dialogue that didn’t seem particularly natural and spontaneous to me and an incredibly long and detailed, in a nuts and bolts sort of way, sex scene that was frankly boring and really did nothing to ramp up the emotional pull between Edmund and Jade. I don’t have a problem with sex scenes but I really don’t need to know that he pinched this, sucked that and stroked the other, especially when it drags out for several chapters.
Despite that mood killer section I did enjoy most of this book and as I like the setting and generally like the characters I’ll be looking to see how things pan out in book three in the series.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This was book 3 in the series. I previously read books 1 and 2 which introduced the Davidson family. We meet the second sibling, Edmund in this book. Dr. Edmund comes to Marietta on a temporary locum assignment to work with his sister, Dr. Lucy. As soon as he arrives, he meets Jade who previously had been a problem for his sister. They have a lot of chemistry. Edmond has problems connecting with most people due to his personality. Jade holds him at arms length because of all the baggage she has with her brother junior. Jade had inherited her father’s house upon his death and Junior is against her selling it. Edmund tried to get a relationship with Jade and she keeps pushing him away. Edmond also had some past baggage. He escaped problems with his ex fiancé who tried to involve him in her illegal scams. He is also very wary toward being involved with another woman, especially one with as much baggage as Jade. We learn a very disturbing secret Junior is keeping. There is quite a bit of suspense, romance and medical intrigue in this romance. I liked it a lot and gave it 5 stars. I look forward to the next installment.

Challenging the Doctor by Patricia W. Fischer is about doctor Edmund Davidson that relocates to the fictional town of Marietta in Montana to work at the ER.
Jade Phillips also works at the ER in Marietta and let´s see what happens when the two of them get´s together.
The books is a little to slow sometimes, but the story is nice and that´s why I give it 3 stars.

Challenging the Doctor brings an interesting mix to the Marietta Medical series. I had mentioned in my review of Resisting the Doctor that Jade struck me as rude, bad attitude, snarky… yet I felt she was holding on to some deep pain. Ah, yeah, you could say that. Jade is a complex character on many levels. I didn’t always like her, but I understood why she did the things she did and the things she said. If we follow the “Narnia-like” theme of this series so far, then Jade fits perfectly in her role (although Jade makes out far better in the end than her counterpart) By the ending of this story I could respect the woman Jade became, or allowed us to see even if she wasn’t my top heroine of all time, she was realistic for what she’s gone through.

I simply fell in love with Edmund. He has his own personal and professional issues to deal with, yet his reactions to Jade are believable and endearing. He’s not afraid to dig beneath the surface, and also, to deal straightforwardly with what is uncovered. There are many parts of this story that are not easy, are rather painful or will simply make you angry. This is a roller coaster ride, where the ending isn’t always clearly in sight.

If you are a fan of Marietta, Montana and have read many of the series based there you are aware of a tragic thread that has been woven through several stories and series. Challenging the Doctor is a story that will have information about that event that you will want to read. Not going beyond that.

In all, I enjoyed this romance, even when a character made me annoyed with her as often as I cheered her on. That happens sometimes, and really makes for an interesting reading experience.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Edmund is in Marietta to reboot his career after an incident he could not come back from. He settles into his new role as ER doctor easily. When he meets nurse practitioner Jade, she challenges him like he has not been challenged in a long time. Jade wants to sell her later father's house and get a fresh start. She wants to leave her past behind. When her brother shows up he threatens her plans and puts Edmund's career in danger. Jade puts her trust in Edmund, but at what cost to both of their futures? Great read!

I enjoyed reading about Jade and Edmond in Challenging the Doctor by Patricia W. Fischer, book two in her Marietta Medical series. Dr. Edmund Davidson travels to Marietta, Montana for a fresh start after being forced to leave his practice in Florida. One of the first people he meets is nurse practitioner Jade. Despite challenges and abuse growing up Jade is an amazing woman, a Wonder Woman, but has her own demons and baggage. Edmund finds instant chemistry with Jade, so unlike any of his previous relationships. Jade never believed she would find her fairy tale ending, yet spending time with Edmund, a prince of a man, makes her believe it is possible. These two broken souls need to move away from their pasts and find a future that they create together.

Ms. Fischer wrote a wonderfully sweet and moving story that is not to be missed. It had me laughing, crying and everything in between. This story is filled with sexual attraction, fun dialogue, and endearing characters. Also an element of suspense is added to this story. I highly recommend this book to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.

Challenging the Doctor is a contemporary romance set in a small town. Edmund, the hero, is new to town. Before he even hits the town limits, he meets Jade, a nurse practitioner and her rambunctious puppy. What follows is a sweet story with happily ever after.

Thank you to NetGaley, Tule Publishing and Patricia Fischer for an ebook copy to review. As always, an honest review from me.

My actual rating is 3.5 stars, but since there aren't half star ratings I always round up.

Challenging the Doctor is a contemporary romance set in a small town with a medical backdrop. Medical books, romance or not, are always a hit with me, so add in the feel good romance with a happily ever after. That's going to make me a happy lady.

Edmund is the main love interest. He's new to town, a doctor, and an honest to goodness good guy. The romance is also quite steamy. A perfect mix of passion and sweetness.

The medical settings and small town vibe also add to the appeal. The upscale diner food sounds amazing. The vibe is a bit like Candace Calvert's books except more sexy times and less religion. Bonus points for Fred the dog, who is so dang cute? Also Edmund has social anxiety, so that's some nice representation. It would have been better if they went more in depth in his struggles. However, it's a romance novel, so I get why it wasn't a main focus.

The let downs in the book include the classic eye rolling line about how most women aren't like her. Problematic for so many reasons that I'm not going to go into right now. Also some of the other tropes felt a little old and overused. Fro example her in trouble with the law brother to stir up drama. But yet the guy likes her anyways, despite her worries.

Overall, an enjoyable read that's perfect for taking your mind off the stresses of life.

I really enjoyed this one! Jade and Edmund are both strong, intriguing characters and I wanted to see them succeed both professionally and personally. They are two lost souls who seem to be exactly what the other needs to heal and move forward. This book is very well written with a nice easy pace to the story making it an enjoyable relaxing read. I definitely recommend this one.

Challenging the Doctor is the second book in the Marietta Medical series and provides readers with a nice, drama-free, and descriptive story. I really liked Edmund’s character, and Jade had a lot going on. Many challenges faced our couple during this book, but a HEA is always guaranteed by Patricia W.Fischer.
A good story that I would definitely recommend, and I’m looking forward to Peter’s book now.

Loved this book!! Dr Edmund Davidson needs to start over after a scandal, so what's better than to work in Marietta. He works along side Jade, a nurse practitioner. Jade is a very strong person but has her own demons in her closet. Jade has also recently returned to Marietta after the death of her father. There is an instant chemistry between the two, can I say hot!! Will these two kindred souls finally find their happily ever after?

Loved these two broken souls, both needing to leave their pasts behind them and move forward. Jade is such a strong woman, with her past and present situations. Edmund is a prince, will not let anyone/anything stand in his way of having his HEA with Jade. I must say I loved Fred too. Author Fischer has done an excellent job on her medical information. An element of suspense added into the story makes for the perfect read.

A big thank you to NetGalley and This Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. First time reading this author. This is book two in the series. I think you need to read these in order. I packed information and found it frustrating. They said that Jade was mean to Lucy in the first book, and suddenly she is nice now? Why, what changed and the instalove wasn't very convincing. I flat out didn't connect with the characters at all. I found Edmund boring. Maybe if I had read book 1, I would like this one more? I was disappointed. Not for me. I am sure there are lots of romance readers who will like this one. I rate it a 3.

Both Edmund and Marietta are looking for a fresh start. Edmund is a Doctor and Marietta a nurse practitioner and working together brings them closer together but they both have secrets. Will their pasts ruin their future? This is a fast-paced emotional read with plenty of drama. I liked the characters and the story really drew me in. A good read.

Jade Phillips and Edmund Davidson meet on the highway into Marietta when he stops to ger his first view of the mountains and her errant dong jumps into his car. There is something that connects in the air between them-a strong pull of chemistry that neither is prepared to feel. Working together in the hospital draws them even closer but both their hidden pasts creates a barrier to love. Add in a criminal, erratic brother and there is a mix for danger.
If you are a Tule publishing reader, the bombshell at the end of the book will finally answer a lingering question posed in other Tule books. This book is not to be missed for you!

An awesome book. Extremely entertaining, captivating and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

What a wonderful surprise Challenging the Doctor by Patricia W. Fischer. I had enjoyed the first book in the Mariette Medical Series, but I adored these characters even more. Edmund and Jade are people who have struggles, been treated unfairly in life at times but are trying to move past that now. Edmund, I will say, may be the more gracious of the two but Jade acted like many people would have. Their growing romance was such fun to watch.

A big plus in this story is one rumbustious puppy. Boy, did I love him. Then there are several subtle parallels to other literature that I enjoyed finding. Most of all this well-written novel solves a mystery that has been plaguing the town for a couple of years. With al the clues given as the story progress, the final “Ah-Aha Moment” was not a huge surprise. However, until this story I never would have guess.

Easily read on its own but why would you want too. I am not really into medical romances, but I found this series to be amazing.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
