I’ve been a fan of this series since the first book. Sid is a highly improbable character, but he is just so lovable and fun; I would love it if he were real. Madison and Georgia are great characters, as well, don’t get me wrong, but I think Sid is my favorite. In this installment, Georgia is yet again at a temporary teaching job when they discover a murder, a murder of someone Sid plays an on-line game with. What follows this discovery (and before) is great fun, mystery, and action. While I did have a little bit of trouble getting into the book at the beginning and at the quick reveal, I wasn’t put out too much, and I really enjoyed the book. This is a quirky, fun, paranormal cozy! I do highly recommend this book and series! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.

Review of THE SKELETON MAKES A FRIEND
By Leigh Perry

This is the first I have read in this series (it's #5) but rest assured I am going to seek out and read the rest. I love the inclusion of a paranormal element, and author Leigh Perry has demonstrated real creativity in creating an ambulatory, active, talking, will-power operating, texting, online gaming, online researching, skeleton. Yes, I kid you not. This is not the plastic skeleton you see at Halloween, nor the real type in Medical School Anatomy Labs. Sid is for real, and nearly perfect. He's certainly Dr. Georgia Thackeray's (Ph.D.) best friend and companion sleuth. I've decided every household should have a Sid!

In THE SKELETON MAKES A FRIEND, Georgia is summer-teaching at a high school enrichment course at tiny Overfeld College in a beautiful secluded area of New Hampshire. Well, secluded it may be, but tensions are high and awful things commence to occur. Why? Well, you have to read the book to find out. Ms. Perry also manages to interweave some very potent contemporary issues. I leave you to discover what and how, because all I can say is: DON'T MISS THIS SERIES!

Skeleton Makes a Friend is another fun romp with Georgia and her animated skeleton Sid.

Adjunct Professor Georgia gets a summer job teaching writing to high school students in a prestigious, but rundown, New England college. The job comes with a three bedroom cabin perfect for Georgia, her teenage daughter, Madison, and her best friend, Sid.

A teenage girl named Jen comes to the cabin looking for her online gaming friend who is a detective IRL. It doesn’t take long for Georgia to figure out she means Sid. Jen states that one of their online group has been missing for over a week. Unfortunately, she only knows him as Erik Bloodaxe, his gaming name.

Sid eventually convinces Georgia to help him find the real Erik in the college halls. When mysterious events start occurring, only the amateur detective team of Sid and Georgia can ferret out the truth.

I missed Sid, Georgia and Madison. After reading and enjoying the first two books in the series, I must have missed the next two. I snapped this one up when I saw it on NetGalley. It is amazing how useful an animated skeleton is when investigating crime. With no fingerprints, no need for sleep, and more than a lifetime of knowledge, Sid is an extremely good detective.

It is surprising how much a skeleton can feel like a genuine member of the family. The antics of Sid make for an amusing afternoon of reading. Skeleton Makes a Friend, as well as the other books in this series, are recommended to any cozy readers willing to suspend disbelief in animated skeletons for a few hours. 4 stars!

Thanks to Diversion Books and NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Sid that we know and love is back! There is lots of bone-rattling humor along with the ever-growing bond between characters. I enjoyed the way Madison starts to come into her own in this installment, and everything except the reveal flows smoothly. I was kept guessing the entire way.

How wonderful to get to spend some time with Sid, the most awesome skeleton in the world. Along with his flesh and blood family, Georgia and her daughter Madison, Sid is spending time with them at a cabin while Georgia is teaching. As an adjunct professor, she moves around a lot. I was glad that Madison is with them. Sid is also, it turns out, a gamer - he's a techie skeleton and he makes a friend online. When he posts a photo of the lake, one of the gamers recognizes it and shows up to ask Sid for help. One of the gamers has not been heard from and she is worried. Well, Georgia takes Sid (in his travel bag) to the University and to the missing man's office - sadly, he isn't missing anymore, they find him dead - murdered.
There are plenty of viable suspects and more than a few reasons for him to wind up dead. Turns out there is a lot hiding beneath the surface at the university. Georgia has solved more than a few murders and is ready to investigate....with Sid's help, of course.
If you are new to this series by all means go find the previous four books in the series. Line them up and prepare to binge read. The fact that Sid is a walking, talking "living" skeleton is the best story hook ever. Honestly, I would love to have him as a friend. Really, I would. You will, too. Add to that, the mysteries are believable and the characters are well fleshed out. The only down side? I've read all five books and now I have to wait for the next one. Or I can reread one or two to keep me going until then.

I adore this series because the author has created such a great friendship with Sid the live in skeleton and Georgia and her daughter. The books all have a great sense of humor with their great friendship as the foundation of each mystery. Reading about Sid and his adventures is both fun and entertaining.
In this next in series Georgia, her daughter and Sid are spending a summer at a rented cabin on a lake while she teaches summer school at a nearby college. She is thrilled to bring her family to the lake and looking forward to relaxing and enjoying their summer.
When a teen shows up looking for Sid, she has no idea Sid was making online friends doing gaming. This teen is in trouble and wants to contact Sid . Georgia allows the girl into their secret about Sid and soon Sid has a new friend that seems to value his friendship over the fact he is a living skeleton. Soon a mystery ensues and Georgia is on the case with help from her trusty sidekick, and their new friend.
I love the humor, the rich characters and enjoy the adventures of Sid and Georgia as they solve murders. This is a fun take on a cozy mystery and always enjoyable to return to their world. i look forward to the next in series.
Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the ARC for review. My opinions are my own.

5 stars
This is the second book in the series I have read, and still thoroughly enjoy the writing and stories.
Georgia is at Overfeld for a summer enrichment program given to gifted and talented high school students. Along with Georgia are her daughter, Madison and her best friend, Sid. Sid just happens to be a skeleton.
Staying at a cabin located near a local lake, the three of them are out for a swim when a local teenager, Jen, stops by looking for Skalle (turns out to be Sid) from an on-line gaming group. Skalle posted a picture of the lake that Jen recognized. Jen is searching for Skalle to help track down one of the other gamers in their group who hasn’t joined their game in several days and Jen is concerned.
After Jen leaves without finding Sid, Sid confides with Georgia that he agrees this behavior by the missing gamer, is unusual and that he wants to investigate. One thing leads to another and Georgia and Sid find the gamer, alias of Erik Bloodaxe, to be Neil Farmer, Overfeld HR manager, dead on campus. Georgia and Sid next need to find the killer.
This is another, well written, humorous at times, but very heartfelt, solid mystery. An unusual family dynamic, it still feels very real and caring. Other than needing to suspend belief in having a skeleton as a main character, this is a lovely story. LOVE IT!
Thank you NetGalley and publisher, Diversion Books, for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Definitely a cozy mystery series I will be recommending to all. Many thanks to NetGalley and Diversion Books for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Skeleton Makes A Friend is the fifth book in the Family Skeleton Mystery series.

This is a series that needs for the reader to stretch their imagination and accept that a skeleton can carry on much like when it was alive. Sid’s antics and comments will keep you laughing and shaking your head. I’m excited that this series has found a new home.

Georgia, an adjunct English professor, has taken a position at nearby Overfeld College teaching an enrichment program for high school students. Georgia was able to get a good deal on a lakeside cabin so her daughter, Madison, and Sid are able to go with her. Sid, who is very adept on a computer, has posted a picture of the lake where they are staying. Jen Cater-Brams comes to the cabin looking for someone name Skalle(Sid) who is a member of a group that plays Runes of Legend, a role-playing internet game. It seems that one of the members of their group has disappeared and she wants Skalle, who alludes to being a detective, to find the missing gamer.

Georgia packs Sid into his traveling bag and heads for the college administration building and when they arrive they find a terrible odor emanating from somewhere in the building. Their noses lead them to the HR office of Neil Farmer. Sid skillfully picks the door lock and they find the lifeless body of Farmer. It appears that Farmer, is in fact, the missing gamer, so now Georgia and Sid need to find the killer.

Soon after starting to look into Farmer’s death, Georgia finds in her mailbox at school, letters that were allegedly written by students charging an esteemed professor, Davidson Hynes with sexual misconduct. Now they need to find out if the charges in the letters are true and if not who might have put them in Hynes’ personnel file. Or could the murder of Farmer have something to do with the financial difficulties Overfeld College is facing or the activists that are clamoring for the school to pay it’s fair of the communities expenses? They’re going to need to work their fingers to the bone...well Georgia will need too, anyway.

Once again Ms. Perry once again provides the reader with a well-written and plotted story and an enjoyable cast of characters and Sid will tickle your funny bone.

I’m looking forward to the next book in this humorous series.

Georgia Thackery is enjoying her summer job teaching an enrichment class for high schoolers at prestigious Overfeld College. The gig comes with a rustic cabin right where Georgia can relax with her daughter Madison, and Sid the Skeleton. But their time together is interrupted by a teenager named Jen who is looking for her online gaming friend (Sid). Jen is worried about one of their gaming members who has gone missing for real. Sid admits that he might have bragged about his investigative prowess and thinks Jen wants him to find their missing player. Their search leads back to Overfeld College where they end finding HR staffer Neil Farmer dead.

Was the motive behind Neil's murder really related to his online gaming? A series of mishaps at Overfeld College highlights the shabby condition on-site and a lack of money. Then someone slips an envelope containing copies of letters accusing Overfeld's star academic (Davidson Hynes) of sexual misconduct. Georgia and Sid's investigation almost turns deadly for them when a fire occurs on campus but they continue on to find the killer.

This was another fun read and strong entry in the Family Skeleton mystery series.

The author did a great job in staging this mystery with enough intrigue that had me immersed in all aspect of this well-written drama. The characters are well-developed and the dialogue is engaging keeping me amused at the antics of Sid, Georgia and Madison. The mystery kept me going and when I thought I had a handle on who the killer was, the author changed the direction all to better enhanced the telling of this tale. This was an enjoyable read with a comfortable tone and the pacing was on par with how well this story was being told. Is Sid a skeleton? He doesn’t feel like one and that is attributed to the author as she has created a believable character in Sid. I like how the author uses the online gaming as the backdrop and the situation at the college campus to tell a wonderful story of friendship and loyalty. Overall, this was one of the best book in this delightfully endearing series and I can’t wait to see what is in store for Sid, Georgia and the gang.

This book was a wonderful instalment in this series. The relationships are wonderful and complex and the characters that the author introduced were so multi-faceted. I didn’t know it was possible to love a skeleton as much as I do, but Sid is wonderful and his relationship with Madison and Georgia is the heart blood of this series.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not paid for this review.

This book hooked me on the series and I have gone back to the beginning to read them all. Sid the skeleton and Georgia make a great team. The book is suspenseful and humorous. It's a great series to pick up if you enjoy lighter mysteries.

Sid’s friend through an online gaming party tracks him down to where he, Georgia, and Madison are living during Georgia’s summer adjunct job. After a quick cover up by Georgia, Sid wants to get involved with what Jen needs. Jen got the idea that he is somewhat of a detective and one of their gaming friends has gone missing. Georgia agrees to help Sid and they uncover not only a dead body but something much more sinister going on at Overfeld College.
Charles, the Doctors Thackery, a professor with a huge ego and some newly found friends are at the center of the story as Georgia, Sid, and Madison negotiate too many dangers in search of a murderer.
Leigh Perry manages to keep us guessing to the end. It was fun to learn about the role-playing friendships in online game play and how serious these people are about their loyalty and rules of play. Again, Georgia comes close to getting out of the adjunct world and into to a more permanent role.

This book shouldn’t work but it does!!!
The character of Sid the skeleton is totally believable and you are just going to love him. It’s a light read but the plot is an interesting one. As someone who knows nothing about online gaming I feel must better informed now without being blinded by jargon. I would be interested in reading the rest of the series to date and will look out for the next instalment. Thanks to NetGalley, Leigh Perry her publisher and Sid for the pre publication copy.

I love Sid, of course, who wouldn't love a walking, talking, tech savvy skeleton? Sid, Georgia and her daughter, Madison are back at at a college and thanks to a friend have a nice cabin to stay in while Georgia is teaching. This time Madison gets more involved in solving the murder and Sid makes a friend outside the Thackery family. Charles is also working at the same college. This series is fun and well written. Since Georgia is an adjunct the setting changes in each book.

I received an eARC from the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review. - If you haven't tried this series you need to add it to your TBR pile.

This cozy mystery series is super fun and a really great for October! It features a living skeleton who has a penitent for investigating and sticking his imaginary nose into everything. He lives with a family that took him in after he saved the main character when she was a kid. This installment in the series is just as good as the rest, in fact it was probably a little better because Madison is one of my favorite characters and she had a much bigger role in the story. This story focuses a lot on college campus politics and the relationship between the college and the townspeople. The book is well written, well paced and has some really great humorous moments! If you enjoy cozy mysteries check it out!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book!

I've only read one book in this series before (the first) but it struck a cord then, and it definitely did again with this one. There is just something completely unique about a walking skeleton sidekick that you just don't get in your average cozy mystery- Sid really makes this series such a fun ride! Of course Georgia and Madison are great too, but come on now- A WALKING SKELETON. Hn.

I really wondered at this mystery, and the culprit was well cloaked until the very end. there was so much going on around the actual murder and it was hard to pin down a good motive. The police really don't play much of a part, leaving Sid and Georgia to solve it all on their own. This was refreshing too, not having any of the law butting in.

This is a great cozy series, even if you're tired of the same old troupes. I'll say it again- THERE'S A WALKING SKELETON.

I love this series. The mysteries are always interesting, I like Georgia, her daughter and Sid. I love the way the author comes up with great ways to use Sid realistically. Liked the parents and wished they all went on vacation or sabbatical together and all 5 of them have a great mystery to solve.

In this one, the author uses Sid as she has in the past in terms of how he investigates, but the manner she develops to get him involved in the mystery is new and IT MAKES SENSE. How would a skeleton make friends and hide that he is a skeleton in this day and age? Well done. I enjoyed how that whole issue rolled out.

Even loved the cover, thinking about Sid swimming makes me smile.

Looking forward to #6 and seeing what Perry can come up with for that one.

I got my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
