I found Kat Martin a little over a year ago. From the first series I was hooked. She is able to bring out characters who will keep readers hooked even when they know the end will be Happy Ever After. The character are easy to fall in love. As well as the secondary characters that will have their own books as well.

The story flows well with the right amount of suspense, action and romance. Kat Martin has readers pulled into a world where sun is shining and people are willing to kill anyone to get what they want.

While the Story has it moments of being over the top I have to admit I enjoyed the story and readers of Romantic suspense will love this new series as well.

Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher Harlequin for Kat Martin The Conspiracy

I once read that a story should be scene/sequel with the scene being the action and the sequel the time for the characters to rest. The Conspiracy uses that outline to keep the characters first in danger and then out only to be in danger again and then repeat, repeat, repeat. I loved how the story flowed with Harper Winston going to Chase Garrett for help in finding her brother Michael only to find that rescuing Michael puts Harper in danger. This is a thrill a minute action adventure with great characters and an over the top plot. First in a new series that looks like a great lead in for more excitement in future books.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

A romantic suspense filled with gunfire, kidnapping, cartels, lies, family, and love. Harper needs the help of Chase in order to find her brother Michael. Problem is Harper hasn’t seen Chase in years and he and Michael aren’t friends anymore. When Harper asks for Chase’s help, he is skeptical at first but sometimes you even the best of friends can have a second chance. Chase and Harper take us on a wild journey overseas through the ocean, jungles and rebel camps. All the while they begin to feel some hot intense chemistry that is getting harder to ignore. There is also a small side story of Michael and Pia’s and that was even more intense. They met while on vacation and then something neither of them saw coming happened. They both live in a darkness that they don’t know if they will ever come back from. Meanwhile Harper and Chase are doing everything to find out what is going on and how to protect the people they love. There are betrayals and lies in Harper’s and Chase’s family that they can’t even comprehend. Chase is living with a wall up based on his past. Harper is living out her dreams, so when Chase enters the picture, she doesn’t quite know what to make of them together. They both think they don’t work because of the past animosity between their fathers. They must look beyond the past to see a future. I like the suspense and romance because you get a great balance of both. The characters are beautifully written and I love the fact that you get POV’s from other characters. The action in the book wasn’t overdone and the family dynamics are a great addition to the storyline.

A real page turner! A plethora of criminal events and a love affair in the mix make for a fascinating story that keeps your attention from beginning to end. Kat is a fantastic author and I can't wait for the next book.

Definitely more suspense than romance but still good. More than one storyline was happening here. Just when you thought it was over another one popped up. I’ll admit some seemed unnecessary. All in all an enjoyable start to this series. I’ll definitely read the next book

Maximum Security, owned and operated by Chase Garrett, is a firm specializing in private investigation, bail enforcement, personal protection, business and residential security. Years ago, Chase had been best friends with Michael Winston, but after a confrontation with Michael’s mafia-like father, they lost touch. With that being the case, Chase is beyond shocked to see Michael’s sister walk through the doors of his office asking for help.

Harper Winston is frantic when her brother, Michael, goes missing. Pursuing his dream to sail his yacht in the Caribbean, Michael has not contacted her in a week, and she feels in her gut that something horrible has happened. Knowing that former family friend, Chase Garrett, is in the PI business, she enlists his services to track down Michael.

Harper and Chase have a relationship built on past friendship that as the search for her missing brother progresses, turns into something much more. As the truth behind what happened to Michael comes to light, Harper’s life is now in jeopardy. Chase is tasked to keep her safe and eliminate the threat, or their life together will end before it even has the chance to get started.

The Conspiracy is an enjoyable romantic suspense that keeps the pages turning. Would recommend to fans of this genre.

Found this book unbelievable. Overly dramatic. Unrealistic. The storyline was just silly and was too woman’s romance fiction type writing.

Another 5 star book by one of my favorite authors. With its fast pace, page turning temp I had a hard time putting this book down. Kat Martin knows how to keep the combination of suspense, action, romance at the expected high levels. I thoroughly enjoyed this latest edition.

If you like Kat Martin’s romantic suspense books, you’ll enjoy this one. You get the same ingredients of a hunky, alpha hero protecting the spunky, beautiful heroine. Helping the hero in his protection is a group of other hunky guys, conveniently placed former special ops guys who can show up with just a phone call with an arsenal and information to help them get out of a dicey situation. And it also helps that the hero is an heir of a billionaire so he can use private planes or charter other private planes to move them around. There are suitable bad guys out to harm the heroine so there are multiple opportunities for heroism as well as hot sex in tense situations. If that sounds like your thing, you’ll enjoy this newest entry by Martin.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

I ended my dates with a smile and eager for more stories about the members of Maximum Security. While The Conspiracy was heavy on the mystery and suspense angle, it offered some great characters. I am looking forward to the next brother's romance and case.

See my coffee dates with The Conspiracy on January 22nd at Caffeinated Reviewer. It will be shared on all social media and reviews will cross-post to Amazon and Goodreads. Thank you.

The Conspiracy is the first book in the Maximum Security series. Chase and Harper were were great characters and although I didn't want the story to end, I definitely wanted them to have a hea. This was a fast paced, suspenseful, romantic read. It had a great storyline and wonderful supporting characters. I can't wait to read their stories. I would definitely recommend this book and any other books that this talented author writes.

Grab your Kindle and hang on tight because this is one wild and crazy ride, action packed from beginning to end! Harper's brother is missing after embarking on a solo cruise to the Caribbean, and she turns to the one man who can help her find him. As the owner of Maximum Security and college best friends with Harper's brother, Chase has the means and the incentive to help Harper. Although there’s an attraction there, for more reasons than Chase can name, it’s not a good idea for them to act on their feelings. With twists, surprises and lots of steam, this one will keep you reading late into the night, so don’t miss this exciting, riveting romantic suspense!

Pretty good. Heavy on the suspense and crime. Light on the heat. 3.5 Stars
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Conspiracy is a very well written story that ties many of the things I enjoy reading into one. This book is a contemporary hot billionaire, girl next-door, second chance, suspense-laden love story.
There are many aspects to this story that I thoroughly enjoyed. This book is loaded with anticipation. Harper has been crushing on Chase her whole life and seeing him again has brought back those intense feelings. Chase has the same feelings but knows she is off limits because of her father.
Most of the story was dedicated to finding Michael, Harper’s brother, protecting her from potential kidnappers, and her father’s issues. Not as much of the story was actually the budding romance; actually more the reason there should not be one. I really wanted more dedicated to the romance aspect, however.
I loved the suspense and crime portion of the story but for me the romance was lacking. I wanted more of a connection. Other than their words, I really felt the physical connection was a bit lacking. I wanted a deeper, intense connection between these two strong characters.
Chase is awesome character and everything we want in a leading man; hot, intense, protective, kind – sigh. The connection with his brothers and the security company storyline is going to make for a great series. I will be looking forward to more in this series.
Kat Martin showcases her strong storytelling ability in this romantic suspense. For those that love the crime and suspense drama’s, this is a perfect choice!
Thank you to #NetGalley for this ARC
This was my first experience with this author and unfortunately my last. I found it hard to stay on task in wanting to finish the book. The plot was chaotic and it felt as though this novel was the conglomeration of several story ideas unsuccessfully fused into one. The writing comes across as unsophisticated and flat. Subject lines, descriptions, and emotions are given in dry statements rather than worked into a story line that would give the reader any emotional attachment or development into the characters. While the book had a wide range of characters that could have been manipulated and expounded upon to give a diverse culture and dimension to the story, it seems that more detail went into the clothing they were wearing than the context of their being. I wanted to like this novel, I did. With some editing and more attention to characterization, this book would have a chance. As it stands, for me, not a recommended read. 1 star.
I thought ‘The Conspiracy’ started off quite well, with the plot quickly and decisively set up: Harper Winston’s brother has gone missing and her desperation to get him back leads her to his former best friend (and the man she’d always wanted) though they haven’t been in contact for years. That this has ties to their powerful father who has shady dealings—who might have something to do with her brother’s disappearance—upped the ante from the start.
After an exciting start however, it was towards the middle that my interest started to flag. The insertions of multiple POVs, long descriptions of place, secondary characters, their personal histories and scattered pieces of the overall puzzle, simply detracted from the momentum of the main story. I skimmed, then read on when the story got back on track (rinse and repeat)—this pretty much described the entire experience throughout the book.
The initial attraction between Harper and Chase consisted mostly of individual internal monologues revolving around their lust for each other and their indecision about making a move. Still, there’s action, some twists involved and a case of major pushing away…which also happens only to a certain extent because neither Harper nor Chase can stop wanting sex with each other.
I’m not entirely sure how to put a finger on this, but reading ’The Conspiracy’ feels curiously akin to reading an older style of romance (outfitted with contemporary themes of RS and the technology of the day) with a more erotic hook, with Kat Martin’s characterisation steeping her protagonists in more ‘traditional’ roles that historical (?) romantic fiction tends to perpetuate.
In this case, Harper cried a lot, turned pale a fair bit, gasped each time as she stared at Chase’s body, was somehow naive as hell at the heart of it yet magically transformed into someone who knew how to be part of a military op. On the other hand, Chase’s eyes burned with hunger constantly as though he was on the verge of ravishing her, got hard with the slightest thought of her and pretty much played the macho man throughout. That he used their sexual attraction to get back into her good graces felt like manipulation: did Chase have to really do stupid things while knowing it would cause Harper some pain, then bend over backwards to make it up? That it had to take something so monumental for him to turnaround to decide that he wanted her permanently when he’d initially wanted a clean break with her?
Most probably it’s Kat Martin’s style that doesn’t gel with me personally. I simply thought 'The Conspiracy' could have been so much more (a leaner, meaner read that could have left me reeling the good way, essentially) but fell far short of my own expectations.
This isn’t a book for me clearly; from style to characters, there were quite a few things that I couldn’t really get on board with, though I can imagine that this would be a typical offering for the RS crowd from a staple RS author.
Harper Winston is worried about her brother. She thinks he is in trouble. She hires Chase Garrett, the owner of Maximum Security, to help find him. Chase was best friends with her brother in college but came to a parting of the ways. There is an immediate attraction between Harper and Chase but their family histor could get in the way.
This book is the start of a new series. I look forward to reading more books in this series. There is something for everyone, suspense, danger and romance. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
