Pecan Pies and Dead Guys is the seventh book in Angie Fox’ Southern Ghost Hunters series. The story begins with Verity being torn by the needs of her boyfriend, Deputy Ellis Wydell, and her ghost, Frankie the German. Ellis calls Verity to a crime scene that he feels is a murder but may be ruled a suicide. Frankie is doing his best to hide from fellow ghost Inspector de Clercq, who is calling upon Frankie to help solve a 90 year old case or be forever imprisoned on Verity’s land. The assignment is to be present on the Adair Estate for the three nights of the Red Hot Ritz.

When Verity arrives at the crime scene she can read nothing that will tell why the woman has died. The bigger surprise of the day is when Ellis’ mother, Virginia Wydell, invites them to a bar-b-que at the family home. Separated from Ellis soon after arrival, Verity makes the acquaintance of Zoey, former fiancée Beau Wydell’s latest squeeze. To her surprise, Verity finds zoey refreshing and really likes her.

Verify leaves the party to head to the dilapidated Adair Estate to begin ghostly snooping to discover who murdered Greasy Larry Knowles, a crooked judge from the late 1920s. But Inspector de Clercq is not happy to see the “live” girl. After some sleuthing, they find it necessary to hightail it out of there, as they do the second night of the annual Red Hot Ritz.

Meanwhile, mysterious pecan pies appear at Verity’s home. The second one spooks her to the point she takes it to the police station to have it tested and is taken aback when a police department employee dies as a result of a sneaked slice of pie.

With three mysteries to solve, two in reality and one on the ghostly plain, Verity, Ellis, and Frankie have much to do and will take you on a wild ride towards the answers. Again, Ms. Fox has woven exciting and interesting tales. I did enjoy this book and do recommend it!

Verity is back again! Pecan Pies and Dead Guys is the 7th Southern Ghost Hunter novel. I have to say that I usually give up on a series after so many books, mostly because they lose something over time. Yet, Angie Fox keeps Verity fresh and fun even in number 7. I have to say that if you haven't tried this series out you are definatly missing out.

I literally couldn't put this book down. I was guessing up until the very end. I have read all of these mysteries and each and everyone is better then the next.

Angie Fox is brilliant once again! Verity Long is a wonderful heroine I always enjoy spending time with. Sadly, I haven't read all the books in this series, but I don't mind. Never one to have spoilers, Angie Fox's books can be read in any order. I did peg the baddie right away, which didn't distract from the story at all. There was a twist that I didn't see coming. Always a nice surprise. As always, the characters are real and easy to relate to. Their relationships are honest and entertaining. I highly recommend this book. It was absolutely fabulous.

Lots of kooky, crazy and chaos while mystery solving here and in the ghost realm. I appreciated the zany and fun-filled way Fox bring her characters to life. I was more enticed by the present mystery and less intrigued by the ghost realm antics but in the end Fox melds physic sleuthing with modern day mystery solving creating an enticing book-cation.

Inspector DeClercq is still after Frank but he makes a deal, if Verity and Frank can help him solve the mystery that's stumped him for decades, he'll get Frank a posthumous pardon. The two will have to accompany him to a local mansion where, during the course of a three-night revelry, a judge was killed. DeClercq has made the partygoers relive those nights every year since he died (or they all died? I'm not remembering if that was explained, but it didn't matter while reading). He's narrowed down the options to five people. The hosts, a couple who are their best friends, and the lover of the female best friend.

In the present day, a young woman is found dead near the pecan orchard and Ellis calls Verity in for help, even as his workmates mock him. But Verity can't find the girl's ghost.

There were some things that were glossed over in this book but I enjoyed it too much to care overly much. A nice addition to the Southern Ghost Hunter series.

Ok, first things first, this book is #7 of the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries, if you haven't read the rest of the saga (really, what are you waiting for?!) these are a few things you need to know (if you already read them, skip the bullets):

- Verity Long has a vase that her ex-fiance (Beau) gave her as a gift, only it wasn't just a vase, it contained the ashes of a 1920s gangster name Frankie.
- When she wanted to clean the 'vase', she washed the ashes from it with water and threw them to her flowers 'grounding' Frankie to the property and now he can't leave unless she takes vase with her (which, she apparently didn't clean very good)
- Frankie can lend her his power to allow her to see the ghost side and when she is connected, she can get hurt by both sides.
- She left her fiance a day before the wedding because he was cheating on her and thus 'humiliating him', and now her almost-mother in law hates her.
- A year after that and now she is dating Ellis (Beau older brother... small town) but they are so cute and so in love with each other.
- During her last adventure, she met detective De Clercq who wants to put Frankie in jail, and because of his 'situation' that would mean converting Verity's house into one - so they made a deal, Frankie helps him solve a murder and he walks.

Now, De Clercq has come to collect... he needs help solving a Great Gatsby-era cold case, and Verity is dragged straight into a raging, otherworldly house party, where everyone is hiding something. On the other hand, Ellis Wydell needs Verity's abilities to aid with a police case of his own. After a dead body is found near a pecan orchard, she starts to receive mysterious pecan pies and she has no idea if someone is thanking her or stalking her...

I have to be honest here... I hadn't read Fox's books before I signed up for this ARC but I did have some of them downloaded to my library and to prepare to this one I read them all... in 4 days! And let me tell you I love them all!! I especially love when she mixes a ghost murder and a current one, that way you get to both sides of her, and how her worlds collide. Also (SPOILER) I loved that this time around she did it all by herself.

The mystery part of the book was amazing and I don't know if I'm too obtuse but I never guess the murder correctly, I like to think it's because Angie is awesome and not because I just don't get stuff. I LOVE Verity, sometimes I want to slap her and make her stand for herself, insult someone and the hell with everything: the 'extended family', the busybodies, the town... but she is a lady. She doesn't let anyone stand in her way and when things go wrong, she holds her head high and lets them come, go or pass, she doesn't put herself at their level and stands high.

This saga has become a MUST to me, do read!!

Sugarland Tennessee is supposed to be a sleepy Southern town, but it is really a home to all kinds of ghostly former residents. Verity has a connection with ghosts ever since she inadvertently messed up the remains of a local gangster who now reluctantly works with her on murder cases both new and historical. This installment has one of each, but we're not talking CSI here, more like Nick and Nora Charles with no money. Most of the humor is situational, but it's still pretty snarky. Fun book in a great series, don't miss it!

This is a great fun cozy paranormal. Verity Long is back and so is the ghost of a 1920s gangster that lives in her house and she is dragged into a mystery murder.

Verity has her hands full because her living boyfriend, Ellis needs help with his own police case.

I have say, this was a great read and I laughed out loud so many times. I mean, who gets stalked by someone delivering Pecan Pies to their house? Only Verity.

The story had a well developed plot and well thought out characters. While this is book 7 in the series, it can definitely act as a stand alone story.

Verity is such a fun lovable character along with her pet skunk. And the messes she gets herself into are always entertaining.A favorite for the series, very enjoyable and well done.

This is the 2nd book of the series that I've had the pleasure of reading, and I loved loved loved it! I really need to go back and read some of the others.. This is such a well writing series. Love the relationship between Verity and Frankie. And the skunk! Makes me want to get one too!

When an unidentified woman is found dead, Verity Long is asked to come to the site with her ghost housemate to see if they can detect anything. Shortly afterwards a pecan pie, hot from the oven, shows up on Verity's doorstep. When another one shows up on her kitchen counter while she was not at home, she has to rely on her police chief boyfriend's help to find out who is leaving these pies....and if there is something or someone who has it out for her. To top if off, she is trying to help Frankie solve a murder that will gain him his freedom from the law, only to discover a malevolent spirit is going to extreme lengths to keep the secret of what really happened.

I love the Verity Long books. They make a very cozy and fun read that will keep you guessing. I highly recommend this series and this book

Lucy the loveable skunk brings so much fun to this story of Verity Long and her ability to see ghosts with the help of Frankie a 1920’s gangster. She is taken back to the 1920’s Great Gatsby style Adair’s party where a murder was committed of Judge Knowles known as greasy Larry. She also has to beware of pecan pies no matter how great they smell. This is a fun zany mystery which will make you smile.

It was wonderful to see that Verity, Ellis and Frankie working together again. More of that please. I hope that Ellis calls on both Verity and Frankie more in the future because they all make such a wonderful team.

I would have liked to see Verity and Frankie help Ellis more with his living mystery rather than all the time that was spent in the ghostly realm. Maybe the next case will be a cold case that Ellis asks for and receives help from Frankie.

The only negative in the book was the hostility towards Verity because it is tiresome to read. We are already on book 7 in the series. It has gone on long enough. Virginia using Verity as a scapegoat is beyond ridiculous and Verity allowing herself to be treated that way shows her lack of a backbone. With each book their drama drags out in makes me lose respect for Verity. If this pettiness and vindictiveness isn't resolved in the next book, it will really be a deterrent to continuing on with the series because it sucks the joy out of the story. I don't associate with people like that in real life and I read books to be entertained.

While I can understand Ellis' fellow officers feeling protective of him, they are also over the top in how disrespectful they are towards Verity. I am really hoping that the pie incident will teach them all a valueable lesson.

All the scenes with Lucy were just precious. It's impossible to get enough of her. I am so relieved that she was not hurt in this story.

Another cracking mystery for Verity to solve with a little help from her friends ! If you are new to this series then I actually do think this works as a stand-alone as there’s enough background information to make it interesting. Verity might be more in touch with the spirit world then most but to truly experience it she needs assistance from her resident ghost Frankie and it’s never going to be straightforward. So when Frankie actually needs her help to escape a spiritual prison Verity is ready to dive in but going back into the past with all its deadly secrets puts Verity in danger. Now you would think that’s enough for Verity to contend with but alas no as there’s a murderer hiding in Sugarland and they’ve got Verity in their sights !
I mentioned initially that this can be read without the previous books but honestly there’s quite a journey that several supporting characters have gone through and with this story there are certainly what could be huge developments on the horizon. If I’m brutal I actually felt the mystery from the past had a lot more going for it with suspense, danger and real emotion. What didn’t quite work as well for this reader was the killer stalking Verity as I had actually worked out very easily who it was. That having been said this book had so much going for it with humour, whimsy ( who doesn’t love a cute skunk?) and absolutely bonkers ghostly goings on . I always want a touch more romance but with the sweet and slightly sad ending I can truly say this author never fails to delight.

I didn't realise it was part of a series... I saw the cover and thought it looked like a funny read... I'm glad I jumped in as it was just comical... I'll be adding the rest of the series to my TBR pile.

Always a fun read, this latest book in the series does not disappoint. Verity and Frankie have a case to solve and a time limit to do it. The estate where the case occurs is a character of it's own that the author describes so perfectly you feel like you are there. There are a host of new ghosts making an appearance and they are fun to read. Ellis has his own case and Verity is dragged into it, sometimes unwillingly. There is more than one mystery going on in this book and both have some surprising twists you don't see coming. This is another winner.

There's rarely a book that I want to read in one sitting but Angie Fox's Southern Spirits series is hard to put down. This is the 7th in the series and just as good as the others. I want to jump in the pages and live with Verity. I love the small town feel of Sugarland with all its history. I felt like I was at the party at the Adair mansion with this book. I'm looking forward to the series continuing.
