He thought of her as a sleeping beauty, then she awoke…
When librarian Anna Kenner wakes up in the hospital, she’s stunned to learn that she’s been in a coma for a week, and her life has been turned upside down. Anna has always been quiet and self-reliant, but now she must ask for help. To make matters worse, the man she’s coming to rely on is a casual friend from high school, whom she always wished could be more. As Roman helps her recover, Anna wonders if this time she will be braver and have a different outcome—Roman in her arms.
This was a sweet story that I read quickly and enjoyed. Since Roman is actually a doctor and not a cowboy, I’m guessing this is about a series of people from his family ranch. That said, I look forward to reading more if it is part of a series.

Very sweet, quick romance. This is the second in the series and can be read as a standalone though several references are made to the previous book.

The protagonists are Roman McQueen a doctor and the 'cowboy' of the title (though we don't actually see him doing any cowboying other than riding a horse once) and Anna Kenner the sweet and shy town librarian. They were lovely together with their slow-building romance and similar outlooks.

This was a sweet story without too much conflict and an enjoyable way to spend a few hours. It wasn't as exciting as Her Cowboy Prince, but that wasn't a bad thing at all. I look forward to The Cowboy Next Door which I presume with be the remaining brother, Wes McQueen's story.

*Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher*

This is only the second novel I've read by Trish Milburn, and it falls into the sweet romance category, but what drew me to request an advance reader copy of this novel was the title and cover photo, which had me at "cowboy. However, the hero in this novel, Roman McQueen, is a doctor, and while his family owns a ranch, and at one point he takes the heroine, Anna Kenner, on a trail ride, that doesn't make him a cowboy. Also, since he's dressed in a lab coat for more than half of this novel, both the title and cover are misleading, and my guess is that I can probably lay the blame for that on the publisher and/or the publisher's publicity department for both. This disconnect between the title and cover and what the novel is actually about is happening more and more, and I think it does a great disservice to the author, who wrote a rather sweet romance novel about a doctor and a librarian, but if I was a fan of medical romances, I'd never have picked up this book at all, so my suggestion to the publisher is to have someone on staff actually read the galley or author's synopsis and choose both a title and book cover photo after doing so.

The story opens with the heroine, Anna, slowly waking up in a hospital and not having a clue where she is or why she's there. She's been in a coma for over a week, following an accident in which her car drove or was pushed off the road and over an embankment, rolling to a stop upside down in a gully. Luckily, someone found her bruised and unconscious body, and notified the authorities who got her to the hospital--the most serious of if her injuries being to her head, with assorted other bumps and bruises.

While she's been comatose, one of the doctors at the hospital, Roman McQueen, who has known the shy librarian since elementary school, has taken to reading to her after hours, hoping that hearing a voice reading one of her favorite mystery writers, will help her regain consciousness. While doing so, Roman finds himself responding to Anna, someone he's known most of his life but never really noticed, and he's now coming to appreciate her quiet beauty, and he's wondering why he never really noticed her before.

When Anna finally wakes up from her coma, she has no memory of the accident or how it happened, but she does need help, something the grandmother who raised her taught her to avoid at all costs. Anna's mother left her with her grandmother so that she could go man-hunting, and her grandmother also had been unlucky in love, which left her a bitter, angry and cold person, and she passed along her negative views on men and relationship to Anna, telling her to be careful about who she spent time with, not to date above her station in life, never to accept charity, and to always be self-reliant, counting only on herself, and Anna took these messages to heart, working to put herself through college and eventually becoming the town librarian. While Anna remembers admiring smart, handsome and well off Roman McQueen while they were in school, she felt that she was invisible to him, and they traveled in different social circles, so it's only now that she's really getting to know the kind and caring doctor he became, and thanks to Roman's efforts, they are slowly developing a friendship, although Roman is beginning to want to get to know the pretty librarian as more than just a friend, but thanks to her early indoctrination by her grandmother, Anna is almost afraid to hope for something more than friendship. Thanks to advice from her friend and co-worker, Paige, both to Anna, encouraging her to see beyond her grandmother's teachings, and to Roman, advising that he take his time with Anna, encouraging her to push herself in rehab, a taking his hopes for a relationship with Anna slowly, as she's more than skittish. Roman isn't above keeping an eye on Anna when she completes rehab, even seeing to her home care when Paige, who works two jobs, is unavailable. Aside from Paige, Anna is all alone in the world, her grandmother is still alive and in a nursing home, but she's a victim of dementia and living in a nursing home.

As Anna slowly heals and returns to work, her knowledge of the accident is still murky, coming back to her in small bits and pieces, and she finds herself attracted to the handsome doctor, who is already more than a little attracted to her, but her constant inner dialogue is mainly in her grandmother's voice, telling her that she's never doing to be a suitable partner for the handsome and wealthy doctor. There was so much time spent on her increasingly redundant musings that at one point I wished Roman would take note of a scene from the movie "Moonstruck" and tell Anna to "snap out of it!" Roman, however, gets points for his patience, his thoughtfulness, and his willingness to be and do absolutely anything and everything to make Anna care for him, open up to him, and to see herself through his eyes, and realize that his feelings for her ran deep, and that she was more than worthy of his attention.

There's more to the story than just their on again, off again, relationship, and I certainly found myself in Roman's corner, hoping that he'd get past Anna's reserve, her mental brainwashing, and her own self-effacing shyness to see and accept what Roman was offering, but even for a short novel, it moved too slowly and took far too long for 26-year-old Anna to break free of her grandmother's negative influence on her life and psyche.

Of course, there's more to this story than just Anna and Roman's relationship, such as finding out how Anna ended up in that gully, but rather than allowing us to be in on the investigation of how and why the accident happened, it all takes place "off-screen" and we're merely told that the culprit has been found, but we never learn who he is, why his truck pushed her off the road, or even his name--quite an oversight and a let-down in this reader's opinion.

There's also the sudden and unexpected appearance of the man who claims to be Anna's father, a man who deserted her pregnant mother and was already a married father of two when he had an affair with Anna's mother, and whose name Anna never even knew, but that too was given rather short shrift.

Yes, of course, there's a happy ending after all this angst, it is a romance novel after all, but the aforementioned missteps made in this novel, from the misleading cover photo and title, to Anna's uncertainty about her own self-worth, attractiveness, appeal, unwillingness to accept charity, and her less than ideal financial circumstances, couple with her belief that her lower station in life made her unworthy of Roman's attentions, were annoyingly repetitive, and made me roll my eyes on more than one occasion. It was a good idea for a novel, but I felt that the execution was flawed, which is why I could only give it a 3-star rating.

As stated, I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This is such a charming read. You will be enthralled right from the beginning. I love ready Ms. Milburn's novels. She has such a magically way with words. You just get lost in the story. The plot flows smoothly that it is also like watching a movie. I read the first book in this series (Her Cowboy Prince) and it was nice to see those characters here as well and a little of a continuation of their story.

The story of Anna's and Roman's HEA is like a modern day Sleeping Beauty fairy-tale. It will enchant you as to the power of love. I loved that Ms. Milburn writes her novels with a dual POV format. This really helps me to get into the character and understand their actions so much better. It was especially helpful with Anna. Her grandmother really almost brain-washed her into believing that she should only settle for someone of the same financial background. Roman being the sweetheart that he is never once thought she was anything less as they both had college degrees working at what they loved and went to the same school growing up. (SWOON!!!)

I can't wait for Wes' story! I HIGHLY recommend this story to anyone. There is just a few kissing scenes and suggested but not written of a sleep over. Can I give this 10 stars?!?!?!?!

A Cowboy’s Kiss is a tender love story and a quick read. It centers on two friends who want more and slowly develop stronger feelings for one another. Anna Kenner was in a horrible car accident and has been in a coma for a week. Dr. Roman McQueen has been going out of his way to spend time with her each evening reading to Anna in hopes of letting her know she isn’t alone. Anna finds herself waking up and doesn’t remember how she got there. She was quite surprised when she found out about his attention but pushed it off as a friendly gesture. When he continued his attention during her rehab she began to wonder why her. She’s had a crush on him during high school but felt she was out of his league. Her grandmother had ingrained in her to not dream and know her station in life. She has a hard time not listening to her grandmother’s voice in her head and is sorely conflicted with her real feelings for Roman and what she’s been told her whole life. Thankfully she has a very good friend to tell her otherwise and a persistent friend in Roman.

Trish Milburn is a new author to me and I loved the way she weaved a character driven story with a sweet romance. It was a slow build right from the beginning and had a sweet ending. Anna may have thought she and Roman had nothing in common but with each new encounter with him she felt that they did. Both characters lived a simple existence of work making up a big part of their life. They didn’t make time to look for that special someone. Out of a horrible accident these two found each other. After coming to the end of the story, I noticed that this was part of a series and is book 2. No worries, it definitely can be read as a stand-alone story.

This book follows librarian Anna following her recovery after a car crash. Roman is Dr at the hospital where she recovers.

I did enjoy this book, they make a good couple and loved their journey. I struggled with Anna's ruminations and her lack of self-trust. She had lots of issues and it bothered me the most that she thought that a Dr was way above "her station" to be friends with or date. I did enjoy it, but it did not strike a cord and I am a bit disappointed on it.

When Anna is in a terrible accident she spends two weeks in a comma. When Dr. Roman McQueen recognizes her, as a fellow classmate from high school, he starts to visit her on his own time. He checks in with her doctor on her progress. After his shift he spends the evenings reading to her just so she can hear his voice and not feel alone. When Anna wakes up she has to get used to having others help her. Due to her lack of family she is very self-sufficient. Roman tells himself that he is spending time with her just to be a friend and help her in a time of need. It doesn't take long for the sweet librarian to come to mean more than a friend to him. Now that his heart is invested, can he find a way to make Anna fall for him? You can't help but want a happily ever after for the two of them. Super cute story.

How do you combat a lifetime of bad parenting? You just can’t. All you can do is lead through experience. This one took a couple of friends, a town, and oh yeah, a horrible near-death accident.
You see Anna Kenner a librarian was on the highway at night when her car goes over the edge of the road. It rolls several times landing on its roof. She hits her head so hard on the driver’s side window she ends up in a coma for a little over a week.
She then wakes to find an old high school classmate just can’t remember his name yet. Slowly her memory is returning with startling results of how fast things can change. The high school friend is Dr. Roman McQueen. From a wealthy ranching family who also owns a resort in town also. She can’t understand why he’s there because he’s there, other than to help translate doctor talk to her, because really in school they just said hello here and there.
After another week she is transferred to a rehab facility. Where he goes to visit her there too. Now mind you, she finds out from her BFF that while she was in the coma he read to her from a book series that she loves a travel mystery.
After all, her hard work and a month she is ready to go home. He was her ride. Feelings were on high alert for the both of them. But with his past history of childhood cancer and his busy schedule, could he really have a normal life?
With her family background of bad luck women, who couldn’t keep men in their lives, who said, "Never rely on men." She was too leery of anyone but especially men, that wanted to get too close to her heart. She would automatically push them away. Her grandmother told her she always needed to provide for herself that she never needed a man. She did, however, need affection and love…

See how they go from friends to more. I give this: 4 stars. Provided by netgalley.com. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com.

I received an arc from Netgalley. As I was reading this book it reminded me so much of a sweet Hallmark movie. I enjoyed the story of Anna and Roman and Anna’s struggle with her feelings and all she had been taught by Helena was real.

I definitely will be adding this author to my reading list.

A Cowboy’s Kiss is a sweet romance set in Montana and featuring not a cowboy, but a doctor. Yes he’s part of a ranching family, yes he gets on a horse and knows how to make it do what horses are meant to do when guided by a cowboy but ultimately he’s a doctor. Not that this is a problem, mind you. Roman is a doctor who oozes empathy, particulary for car crash survivor Anna Kenner, a girl he’s known since childhood.
This story was relaxing to read - there weren’t too many twists, just a couple of nice people slowly falling in love with each other. You couldn’t help but like Roman and Anna or wishing the best for them. I enjoyed their story though at times I thought it was all a little too perfect. Mind you, as soon as I thought that along came a twist that I hadn’t expected, making for a sense of great satisfaction at the end.

Oh what a slow, sweet, friends to lovers romance.
I loved how well written the characters were, Anna and Roman were so likeable, I had my fingers crossed for them, and even the secondary characters were so real, it made the book easy to read and so enjoyable.
I’m looking forward to the next book in this series, hope its out soon.

A Cowboy’s Kiss is book number two in the Once Upon a Western series. This is librarian Anna Kenner and Dr. Roman McQueen’s story.

I loved Anna and Roman’s characters even though there were times I wanted to shake some sense into Anna. This is a very slow burn sweet and emotional romance with some surprises.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book, book 2 in the series. I was a little disappointed as the angst and steamy factor was pretty low. However, it was still a sweet romance between Roman and Anna. The book opens with Anna in the hospital in a coma. We learn she’s been in a life threatening accident as her car was run off the road and down an embankment. Roman is a doctor but not Anna’s doctor. Roman and Anna went to school together but due to her family’s peculiar beliefs and actions, they were not close. Roman visits Anna and reads to her in in the hospital while she’s in the coma. Anna wakes up and spends time with Roman. She was raised by her grandmother to believe she wasn’t from as good of a family and so she shouldn’t associate with Roman or others of a higher social stature. As a result she drought her attraction. As the book progressed more of the story and romance was shared. I look forward to book 3 and give this 4/5 stars.

This was the first book I have read by this author and I must admit I was intrigues by the blurb. I mean we have a cowboy and a librarian which sounded like a great combo for a romance novel. However, I'm not sure that I would qualify Roman as a cowboy since he is now a doctor and only occasionally gets out to his family's ranch. Secondly, it seems as though these two characters Anna and Roman were never going to do anything other than maybe be friends. And honestly most of the time Anna was afraid to even be friends with someone outside of her social class. I didn't realize that librarians were so lowly in status that they couldn't even be friends with a doctor. Yes, Anna definitely had some issues to work through and fortunately at least her friends could point out the flaws in her thinking. All in all, I simply had trouble getting into this book.

This is a must read! It is the story of a librarian and a doctor who grew up in the same town. Anna was raised by her grandma who imposed her worldviews on her.
Anna is in a coma after surviving a car accident . Roman is a Doctor at the hospital where she is a patient. He is not her doctor but feels a sense of duty and begins reading her favourite book series to her. When she wakes up he realizes he is falling in love with her and continues to cheer her on through her recovery and rehabilitation.
Will Anna follow her heart and love Roman back or will her grandma’s worldviews get in the way..::
