I received The Murder Book by Lissa Marie Redmond as an ARC from Netgalley. The Murder Book is the 2nd book in the Cold Case Investigation series. I have not read the first book but after reading this one I'm going to go back to read it. This is the type of mystery thriller that I enjoy reading. Lauren is a Cold Case detective who wakes up in the hospital after being left for dead by an attacker. She & her partner, Reese, investigate behind the scenes to figure out who attacked Lauren. An interesting story with lots of twists and turns.

A police story with the added bonus of a courtroom drama. Written by an ex cop you can see the authenticity in this book. Loved it! Want more!

"Cold case detective Lauren Riley wakes up in the hospital certain of two things: she was stabbed and left for dead...and the person who did it was a cop.

After being brutally stabbed at her desk late one night, Lauren Riley works her way backwards through the haze to piece together who attacked her and why. A mysterious phone message forces her to enlist the help of a retired lieutenant to track down a witness who is desperate not to be found. As she digs into the Buffalo Police Department's hidden past she uncovers a terrible secret, one a fellow officer would kill to protect."

What a book! i really enjoyed this from start to finish, it gripped me completely from word go! I loved the characters of Lauren and Reece and thought that their relationship was very well written. The plot was well written as well and flowed completely. There is nothing that i didn't like about this book and I will be definitely looking into books written in this series as i loved the style of writing. Complete worthy 5 star read!

Anybody who likes crime and police procedural types of books will love "The Murder Book"

Thank you to NetGalley and Midnight Ink for this ARC for my honest review.
I have not read the previous book in this series, and maybe it would have helped. It is an interesting mystery and I enjoyed the story for the most part though it was slow in some places.
It is a solid read and recommend it if you enjoy crime novels or police procedural.

The Murder Book is the second book in the Cold Case Investigation series. Although this is my first book in the series, I didn’t feel like I had missed out by not reading in sequence as there was enough information and background to know what was going on.

Detective Lauren Riley is stabbed and kicked in the head at her desk in Police Headquarters by an unknown person and her Murder Book taken. Who would want Lauren dead and what was the motive she worked cold cases, had she uncovered a case someone wanted to keep secret? Given where she was attacked and left for dead, was another officer/detective responsible?

Lauren doesn’t know who to trust and so her partner Reese moves into the guest room in her house to protect her and investigate together, get to the bottom of it.

A great police procedural book with elements of psychological drama, plenty of twists and misdirection to keep you guessing, if you love this genre, this is definitely one to add to your list, I look forward to number 3 given the ending… let the games begin!!!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Midnight Ink for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

The murder book is the story about a police officer named Lauren who is working with her partner Reese to discover who left her for dead after brutally attacking her in their police station. I did not realize that this story was part of an on-going saga. Enough background information was shared that I actually felt like I was visiting with old book characters that I had met before. Lauren is a multi-faceted character who has a new appreciation for her family and friends after her attack. One of my favorite relationships in the book was actually between Lauren and Reese's dog Watson. We got to see a warmer side of her and he stole my heart. The book left the reader definitely wanting to keep reading and I can't wait to read the next installment in this series.

There was a lot about this book that worked. I was pulled in by Lauren's backstory: multiple ex-husbands, an abusive ex-fiance, two daughters, a side gig as a private investigator, a living family she hardly sees... Her list goes on. Lauren has a lot to handle as it is... And then she's stabbed in her own police department.

Her relationship with her partner was also compelling. He's a younger, womanizing cop, and their platonic relationship is professional, but tight. His little doggie made a nice addition to this storyline.

I also find the investigation itself very refreshing. Two cops investigating the stabbing of one of them and it all has to be done under the radar. This added a nice element of intrigue and danger to the book.

I had some trouble with the way the author laid out some of the background. She would mention a character several times and THEN explain the background. She did this with the defense attorney, his client, her ex-husband, and others. I understand that this is a sequel, but the book needs some editing to introduce new readers to these characters. Other times, however, she re-told a character's back story, such as with her ex-husband it was redundant.

I would definitely read future sequels. But I wasn't consumed by this book.

I hadn't read the first book in this series but it didn't matter as Redmond fills in the details for you so I enjoyed this novel about Lauren and Reese solving a cold case after Lauren is brutally stabbed and left for dead. I liked the tension and banter between the characters as much as I liked the storyline and the crisp writing style. I eagerly await the next in this series as of course there is more to the story at the end!

OMG! This was such a great mystery thriller that I forgot how much I love to read these types of books. This was a thrilling ride. I so have to get the first book of this series hope that it is great as this book is. Heroine Lauren Riley was stabbed and left for dead at her desk. When she recover she set out to find out who would do this to her. As for every clue she finds leads to more shocking revelations that it's a cop someone she knows. So can't wait for the next book.

The Murder Book is a thriller, but it's more Sherlock Holmes rather than Gone Girl which was just as good. It is a true whodunit. It. really is an engrossing read that is very well written.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Thanks to netgalley/author/publisher for ARC of the book.
.
I picked up this book based on excellent reviews. I have not read the other books in this series though it did not matter and one can follow pretty easily. The book was little slow moving for me and i would definitely not call it a thriller. Its a mystery and a decent read. There was just too much geographical information that was distracting. Instead of that i wish the characters were a little more developed.

Overall, plot was tight but narratives were drawn out .

This was a good solid novel, but I did find myself looking back at the first in the series to refresh my memory - Lissa Marie Redmond doesn't give you a whole lot of refreshers on the previous novel. Which is, I suppose, fairly typical for the criminal thrillers, but I still was lost a few times. Lauren Riley is a well written character, in that she was credible in both her personality and character, but it felt like we didn't get to know her as well as we could've.

Overall a decent read - I would recommend it to others, but I don't think I'd preface it with, "But you MUST read..."

This is the second book in this series and I went back and read the first one over so that I could refresh myself about the characters. Both books in this series were very good and I enjoyed reading them. BUT, another book with a cliffhanger ending. I much rather read a book that has an actual ending and ties up all loose ends

Thank you netgalley. Enjoyed this book very much. The interaction between Lauren and Reese is believable. The end leaves you expecting and excited for another story.

What an exceptional series this is! I thoroughly enjoy the cast of characters Redmond has set up - and it doesn't hurt that it's set in Buffalo, which is 20 miles away from where I type at this moment... In this second installment, Redmond picks up right where she left off - a fact that was confusing to me when I started reading, because the NetGalley blurb never mentioned that it was a second-in-series. Since I found myself confused, I looked the book up and lo and behold learned it was a series - then promptly requested the first book from my library and dove in. I'm glad I did and didn't just give up - the series is great, with strong writing, an incredible protagonist, a great supporting cast, and excellently plotted main and sub-plot murder mysteries. But don't try to read this one without the first (A Cold Day in Hell) under your belt or you'll be utterly lost...

I loved this! A detective duo sets out to uncover a past and present mystery. First time reading a book by Alissa Redmond but will not be the last.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Well written, the storyline kept me interested all the way through the book. A cold case detective in the fight of her life. There was a lot of action and the main character was always on the move, looking to right a wrong committed years ago, along with a mistake from her fairly recent past. Can’t wait for the next one in the series.

The premise of the book started well, but I was very disappointed the book ended with a cliff hangar, I really dislike books that do this.

There are two stories involved, the main one being the attack on Lauren Riley as she works in the Cold Case Unit, writing up notes. The sub story is carry over from a previous book and then do eventually end of merging.

The book does refer to things that happened in the first book, but I think they are explained enough that you don't need to have read it.

The book starts with Lauren being stabbed, and while she cannot say who attacked her, she is sure of one that and that the person who did it was a fellow police officer.

I thought the characters were OK, story was OK, maybe a bit tenuous in places, especially with the voice on the tip line.

Very annoying book ends as it does.

This is the second book in this series but I didn't read the first and it did put me at a disadvantage. I could follow along pretty well but reading the first book, I would have gotten a better understanding of the characters. This book is a solid mystery, good police procedural, but I hate the cliff-hanger ending. I'll probably get the next book as I'm curious where the author is going with the story, but I still feel such cliff-hangers are a cop-out. I received an e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review.

Lauren Is a strong female lead in this book. She is in the middle of an investigation and is attacked and left for dead at the police station where she works. She knows it is a co worker but until more secrets are uncovered not everything will be understood. With the help of her partner secrets and corruption are brought into the light. Will someone get away with attempted murder and murder or will mysteries be solved
Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this story.
