The author gave easy to follow advice on how to be more successful when fundraising for non-profits. This guide was very informative.

I have been involved with a very small, educational nonprofit in Guatemala for many years. I have been successful with fundraising but there are always tips or aspects that one may forget over time. I do have to admit it took me a while to warm up to the book. The first third read like an infomercial. For someone not comfortable with the "ask" or is new to a nonprofit board, this is a good reference book. There is a lot of good information given in a few pages, which can be overwhelming. My suggestion is to read it and then go back and slowly digest its contents. If the reader is not knowledgeable about Myers-Briggs, it would benefit him/her to read an overview about it. It is good to know about in one's everyday life.

Thank you NetGalley for a prerelease copy of Nonprofit Hero.

Outstanding! Having been on both sides of the “request for support” conversation, if I had read this book when I was doing the asking, I’m certain I would have been much more effective. In addition, if these insights had been applied by others asking me, I expect I would have been more generous as well. As a practical guide to winning support, financial or otherwise, broadly applicable but specifically for nonprofit organizations, the advice and insights in this toolbox are immediately applicable. The personal assessment can be disturbing because it requires an unflinchingly honest appraisal of the self, but the reward is a clear roadmap for the most effective way to engage, cultivate, approach and reward prospective supporters of the organization you serve. Complementing the explanations of the phases of the supporter engagement cycle are vignettes from Val’s highly successful career as a nonprofit development professional. These stories provide the human context that makes clear the why and how of the approach. Highly recommended.

I started working with non profits about ten years ago and came away with some good ideas. There is not a lot written well on the subject and I picked up a few tips. Thanks
