I love this sweet children’s book series and continue to recommend to family and friends. A simple beautifully illustrated way to share God’s stories with little ones.

Unlike many animal books this one will grow with your tot. Each concept is illustrated in a simple way. We see an image of an animal. Then, for the slightly older child, we're given a Bible verse that illustrates the idea and puts it into a larger context. For a child growing up in a religious family, religion can sometimes feel disconnected from the rest of life. Books like this one build a foundation of greater life context for young children.

A generally thought out book with illustrations which I think will appeal to the young being read to, and children reading or exploring the book themselves. The focus on opposites within the creation story is a lovely idea. The only illustrations from the electronic version that were not so clear to me was the contrast of dark and light, and quiet to loud - the use of black for quiet seemed strange though the radiating colours to indicate increased sound seems effective to me as an adult - I am not sure it would be clear to a child....
These comments aside I do like the book.

Beautiful read! Danielle Hitchen is an incredible author that mixes developmentally appropriate words, images and teaching with theological truths you wouldn't normally find in kids books.

I truly love the way this author writes for readers to young children. I enjoyed this book (and the other books in this series). The illustrations grabbed by attention as well as the words boldly listing opposites. The integration between the Bible and this book flows in an easy to read but heart-filling format. I will read this to my children and share with my friends.

This book is meant to be read to babies to teach them the meaning of simple opposite words (quiet/loud; dark/light; above/below; wet/dry; day/night; empty/full; large/small; alone/together; over/under; work/rest) with images that reflect these words, while teaching a biblical message. The bulk of the text in this book is worded beyond a baby or toddler's level of understanding, however little ones will likely love the colorful illustrations in this book.

This is such a gorgeous children's book! Reading it on my kindle has made me want to see the hard copy of it, since it is such a delightful book.

This book is gorgeous with a wonderful premise!! I am always looking for ways to include scripture in the day to day with my 1 year old and this book of opposites does a great job of that! I am looking forward to getting my physical copy as well as other books from this publisher. This would make a darling gift as well!

“Let There Be Light” by Danielle Hitchen is one of the cutest things I’ve read. The board book is from the Baby Believer Primers series whose purpose is to acquaint little ones with scripture and theological terms. “Let There Be Light” functions both to introduce children to scripture and opposites such as light and dark, wet and dry. With excellently chosen verses on each page to show God’s creative power and His wonderful creation, this book is perfect for you and your little ones to go through and discuss. For the older children, the book will serve as a great place to begin memorizing sctipture. The artwork is also unique and pleasing; the font matches the aesthetic of the board book beautifully. I’m sure children and adults alike will enjoy reading this book together.

The illustrations are beautiful in this book. The messages are just as beautiful. These two elements work very well with each other making this a delightful book. It really is a nice family book and wonderful for little ones.

Illustrations of this book are beautiful but as I was reading a digital copy it was very difficult to really understand how they book was designed to display opposites.

I liked the use of colors, the font choice, and the illustrations as well as the inclusion of the Scripture.

3.5 Stars

I would probably rate this higher if I had a physical copy to really experience the book.

I loved the verses throughout this opposites primer that corresponds with the pictures. The illustrations were beautiful, and very engaging to look at. My only complaint is that some of the pages are a vertical format, while some are horizontal (which is needed for the set of opposite words). Overall, my son & I enjoyed this!

As a lover of literature, I've been intrigued by the BabyLit series of board books that uses aspects of classic novels to introduce young children to concepts like counting, colors, opposites, etc., as well as books in other series such as Anne's Colors. So I was excited to see that something similar had been done with Bible stories.

Let There Be Light is an "opposites primer" focusing on the creation story in Genesis. Each double page contains an opposite word on each side, and a Bible verse associated with that particular contrast. One thing I liked was that not every verse was from the Genesis story. By also using verses from books like Psalms and Jeremiah, the book takes on a grander scope, and emphasizes the creation from more than one point of view. Occasionally "primers" can become a bit contrived when they reach a bit too far to make a story fit a concept, but I didn't get that feeling from this one.

I also love the illustrations, especially the use of contrasting colors, and the way that even the concepts that are used a bit abstractly in this story (quiet/loud, work/rest) are portrayed in simple, colorful ways that make sense. This would make a great gift for a baby or toddler!

I have to confess I had high expectations for this book before reading it, but was a little disappointed when I read it with my preschooler and he didn't love it! (maybe he just wasn't in the right mood?)
This book is full of bright and colorful pictures, with attractive fonts but what appeals to me the most is the Scripture quotations that fill the book. It uses the Creation Story to introduce opposites and is a fun way to teach little ones basic opposites as well as introduce the Creation Story.

Another concept of bringing biblical verses to create a story for children.
In this book the purpose is to teach opposites. Compared to the animals primer. The quotes are not as implicit but again I welcome the christian desire to have a nurtured scriptural base for the book.
I also accept that the words are not always in the verse and that the suggestion of the subjects comprises the sentiments being addressed. This is a more realistic aspiration and perhaps enhances the subject matter.
The illustrations are again well crafted. The opposites are well chosen and some are integral to the gospel message which I believe is the central purpose for this series.
I would happily read this to a child; I believe that using the word of God is powerful and can be spoken as it is the only writing in these books.

What a fantastic way of teaching your small ones the opposites in creation. Learning about what God has done in contrasting words brings the gospel to the heart of your toddler. I have purchased these books for my grandchildren and will continue to do so as they are a great tool to know who God is and what he has done.

A great book to share with your children.

A Special Thank you to Harvest House Publishers and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

The illustrations in this board book are gorgeous. This book has binary, opposing words on each page with an accompanying Bible passage. I like the concept, as learning opposites without context is pretty fruitless, but I don't know if those Bible passages are the best choices for the pairs. Perhaps a kid-language explanation and then the passage would have been more effective. As it is now, it is just a good way to read the Bible to your child in bite-sized pieces. The two opposites on the page are there in case you can work in the language development during the book reading.

I received this book for free from NetGalley and Harvest House Publishers in exchange for a fair review.

This is one of the best board books for children that I’ve had the pleasure to read. Each page has a bold word on it, and the facing page has its opposite. The concepts on both pages are clarified with a Bible verse about God’s creation of the world. The illustrations are bold and help clarify the concepts very well. They are not overly detailed, but instead, are very striking.
I really liked the idea of teaching children the Biblical truth of Creation while simultaneously teaching them opposites. This book draws those two concepts together so naturally that as you read each page the verse is brought alive.
I would recommend this book to every child.
I received this as a free ARC through NetGalley and Harvest House Publishers. No favorable review was required. It was my pleasure to express my honest opinions.

This is such a beautiful children’s book! I could not get enough of the beautiful illustrations. I know my daughter will love it as well! The author does a great job of breaking down the creation story for young children.

A gorgeous look at the creation story with stunning illustrations to compliment Bible passages.
It’s perfect for children to grasp a concept that belwilders adults far and wide.
