Challenging, but not overwhelmingly so. A cute book with cute patterns for many skill levels.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this ARC

Knitting for Little Sweethearts is a collection of attractive practical and ever-so-slightly whimsical knitwear for small people. Written by Klompelompe designers Hanna Andreassen Hjelmås and Torunn Steinsland, it was released 28th Oct 2018, it's 168 pages and available in hardcover format.

I live and work much of the year in Norway. There's been a huge resurgence of classic handknitting here especially in the last decade. Norway is a lovely country very far north and very full of mountains. And sheep. And many many Norwegians who spend (to my American sensibilities) an insane amount of time on skis running around in the snow. This leads, not unnaturally, to an appreciation for wool clothing which can absorb a pretty stunning amount of water without feeling wet to the touch and insulates very very well when one is running around in the snow.

This book is chock full of really pretty and sensible designs. They're classic and are honestly heirloom quality. You could use these patterns now and 25 years from now. They're not going to go out of date.

The book itself is translated for North American audiences. I'm not 100% sure about the availability of the yarns. Most of the yarns in the book are Norwegian or at least European suppliers, for example Sandnes Garn (one of the major Norwegian wool manufacturers and widely available here in Norway). There are certainly universally available substitute yarns available worldwide, but there is no 'built in' converter in the book. Needle sizes are converted to US measurements, but the gauge swatch measurements are in metric.

The patterns themselves run the gamut from very simple to more complex. Most of the designs are knitted, but there are a few crochet pieces. There are hats, mittens and other accessories as well as larger pieces such as jackets and pullovers.

This is not a learn-to-knit book. There are no stitch or shaping diagrams. Those can be found elsewhere or as the authors suggested, at your local yarn shop.

I loved that the authors gave a shout out to local yarn shops. Yarn shops are a golden resource for people learning to knit and are full of people who are invested in helping their customers become the best knitters they can become.

This is a lovely book and will become a standard go-to for anyone needing gifts for expectant friends or future family members. I've knitted several of these as gifts for expectant colleagues and have found the patterns mistake free and easy to follow.

Five stars. Very very good knitting book for the small humans in your life.

Note: I received an Advance Reading Copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review.

I love knitting, and knitting something that is useful. Knitting for the kids is nice, because it’s done quickly and they just look even cuter. The only thing is, the line between cute and old-fashioned with knitting is really thin. I found Knitting for Little Sweethearts by Hanne Andreassen Hjelmås and Torunn Steinsland from KlompeLOMPE and couldn’t resist.

The book contains a lot of patterns for kids from baby to early teens. There are hats, mittens, scarves, coats, tops, shorts, blankets and more. And they are all so cute. The designs are Scandinavian with lovely structures, pastel colors, and just general coziness. The patterns are well described in several sizes, with lots of information about yarn suggestions, gauge and notions. For some of the techniques there are video instructions on the site itself.

All in all this is a lovely book with patterns for kids, well described, well photographed and well designed.

Very nice set of patterns in the book. They are stylish and cozy.. Most of the pattern are for wide range of sizes, and some have instructions for adults, too, like for mittens or hats. The patters are fairly easy to follow, with some special stitches like basketweave and with some simple lace and cables, but most of them are pretty simple. There rompers, pants and dresses along with the usual fare of hats and socks. I like that they put an index at the end with patterns listed by type, so you can find all the pants patterns, for example. Patterns list specific yarns, but also the type and yardage so it would be easier to substitute. Mostly wools, of course, but some other fibers in the mix. From fingering to bulky. Everything looks so warm and cozy. The photos are gorgeous - kids are having so much fun wearing the garments. And you can actually see what is it they are wearing, so it is not just pretty pictures, but shows a lot about the item and its construction.
I received a free digital copy of the book from NetGalley

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. Knitting For Little Sweethearts By Hanna Andreassen Hjelmas and Torunn Steinsland is a great collection of knits for the entire family. There are patterns for items from head to toe for both children and adults. The patterns are clearly written and the photographs are beautiful. I would have liked to see schematic illustrations for some of the patterns. A good addition to your pattern library as the patterns are timeless. #KnittingForLittleSweethearts #NetGalley

This book is an absolutely amazing book, not only are ALL the patterns fabulous but the photography and instructions are excellent.
I would like to make all the items in this book, there are patterns for babies, children both boys and girls and adults and all stunning. Very simple and classical with a twist.
If you are going to buy one knitting book this year, let it be this one. You won't be disappointed.

This is probably a bit a marmite book. It wasn’t really my cup of tea as the style is quite old fashioned, which the lack of any bright colour yarn reinforces. But there were also some items I thought looked good so overall an ok book for some ideas. I’m sure others would love this book if the style is more to their taste.

Lovely patterns. Though I haven’t yet had a chance to make any of the items in the book, there is a wonderful variety of items. Anyone knitting a gift for a little one in their life is sure to find many items that appeal. Nicely photographed.

Such cute children's knitting pattern have not been seen since Jil Eaton published pattern books in the late 90s and early 2000s. I will be hunting down some kids to knit for as my daughter is 22 and too big for many of the patterns in the book. There are a couple of patterns for adults but mostly the patterns are for babies and toddlers.

This books would be great for the beginning knitter. The clothing is classic in styling and they are made to be handed down. Pants are knit with long cuffs to be let down as the kids grow. Mittens, hats and Cowls for all ages. Sweaters and dresses, leg warmers oh my. Everything is adorable and is a must knit for every child you know.

I can not wait to see what Hanne and Torunn have in store for their next book.

One of my favorite hobbies is knitting and this book makes me wish my teenagers were younger! Beautiful, well-written patterns with gorgeous photos. I will be knitting some of these patterns for gifts, along with maybe a hat or two (adult) for me. This would be a great book to be added to any knitter's library.

Knitting for Little Sweethearts by Hanne Andreassen Hjelmås and Torunn Steinsland
What I liked right from the start are the darling pictures of the kids with outfits they have on.
I do charity knitting for youngsters and others and appreciate the time it takes to make patterns.
Starts out with a table of contents where the outfits are not cateogirzed in any way.
Such beautiful color photos. Introduction about how the book came to be and the authors.
Each pattern starts with a title, summary of the item, difficulty level, sizes and material needed. Row by row instructions.
Like how they combine knitting and crocheting to finish the item. Love tips along the way.
Some items are charted with color schemes and other charts tell you what sittiches to use rather than written words .
Diagrams are also shown for some stitch explanations during the pattern.
Love that there are patterns for adults as well-to match the youngsters creations.
Love leg warmers best and think most of the patterns could be used for it.
Index and resource listing is availabe at the end along with acknowledgements.
Will definitely buy a copy of this book-so much to offer, and variety available.
Received this review copy from Schiffer Publishing Ltd. via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.

The patterns in here are so sweet for children. There are even a couple crochet patterns, if you like both in a book. Definitely patterns I'd consider more on the "delicate" side of things .

This is a knitting book with instructions for adults to create children's clothing. The book opens with a great page "Grandmother's Knitting Tips" and explanations of abbreviations, making it fairly accessible for new knitters. The photos are beautiful, and the instructions are thorough.

This beautifully photographed collection of patterns offers lovely, classically designed garments for babies, toddlers, and small children. The authors are two moms, and their collection features a huge number of garments children actually wear - rompers for babies, sweat pants for toddlers, and lots and lots of caps. The authors say in their introduction that they put a lot of time and work on making sure the garments actually fit. They specialize in caps and hats, and it shows. A couple of hat patterns for mom are thrown in for good measure.

The designs in this book are both charming and practical. This will be your go-to book if you often knit for small children or like to give handmade baby gifts. Highly recommended.

As the title indicates, this knitting book specializes in patterns for children's clothing. There are dozens of hats, mittens, scarves, headbands, coats, sweaters, leg warmers, pants, skirts, dresses, vests and blankets. There is something for all skill levels, in most sizes for kids' wear. The patterns are well-explained and detailed. Get this knitting guide for the patterns and love it for the beautiful photographs. This is a simply gorgeous volume that fills a slot in knitting that is often overlooked. Thank you to Schiffer Publishing Ltd. and NetGalley for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
