While parts of the story are quite intriguing and gripping I did find the book could be quite repetitive at times repeating the same thing over and over. I know part of this was due to the main characters mental state but felt there may have been better ways to indicate her state.

The other thing that I found a little difficult with the book was despite the book being placed in Portland USA, it was obvious the Author was from Australia. Some of the language was clearly not American, such as calling the doctor's office a surgery.

That being said despite thinking I knew what what was happening throughout the book and it dragging a bit, I did find a few surprising twists at the end and was happy at the ending.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinions and review.

"Tell Me No Lies" by Alex Sinclair starts as a love story but quickly becomes a psychological thriller that questions how well we really know those around us, especially those close to us. How well do you know your husband, wife, or significant other?

Leaving a dinner celebrating their 5th anniversary, John Dalton is a victim of a hit and run. He dies in the arms of his wife, Grace.

Desperate and grief stricken, Grace vows to figure out the meaning of John's last words to her. In doing so, she learns she did not know her husband at all. How much of her marriage was true?

I enjoyed the premise and much of the story. However, Grace's many of her actions were unbelievable and far fetched. The story did include an interesting and surprising twist which made the story worth finishing.

In the beginning of the novel, I sympathized with Grace. However, her actions made me stop rooting for her and just wanted to finish the book. I am glad I finished it and would read a different book by the author and have added one of his three other works to my "want to read" list on Goodreads.

This book started with a bang and then fizzled out like a damp squib.

I am sorry to say that I found this book tedious and I found myself skim reading to get through it. I had no empathy for the characters at all, they were just annoying. The plot was weak and very repetitive. I found it predictable and not the gripping psychological thriller I was expecting.

Sorry but not my cup of tea this time.

I was really looking forward into digging into this thriller. It had all the main fixings of a great story. An unreliable protagonist, unanswered questions that only the dead would know the answers to, and a really great pace. That is, until about 2/3 into the book. It was almost like the author didn't know how to end the book. I was really disappointed with the ending and felt that it was really unrealistic. The main character, Grace, was also such a weakling and would call her friend Jennifer over everytime she heard a noise. She would cower like a little mouse. And then towards the end of the book all of a sudden she gets a backbone and decides to find out what her husband's secret was and goes into a seedy part of town in a bar looking for a guy whose number she finds on a business card. This book started out great but was a flop in the end.

Thank you to Netgalley, Alex Sinclair, and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Tell Me No Lies is a fantastic hang on to your seat page turning thriller that will not leave you disappointed.
I read this in one sitting, frantically turning the pages. The end will leave you breathless!

It starts and ends fast-paced, but it does drag in the middle. It's an interesting story, and if you love mysteries/suspense, it may be your cup of tea. I love this type of book, but this one fell a little short for me. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best I have read. That being said, it doesn't mean another would find it to be the best. I think it is going to be a matter of what you love and have read before that will genuinely make the difference in if you love this book or not.

The writer is a good writer and is good at the faced paced mystery/thriller/suspense genres but this book spent too much time setting up the is she insane/is she not, etc.. for me to love it. The writing quality is top shelf though, and I'd definitely pick up another book from Alex Sinclair.

This is our 3rd Alex Sinclair book. We were hooked with "The Last Thing I Saw" and then again with "The Day I Lost You". All three of these books are nail biting, edge-of-your-seat thrillers that have you screaming aloud at the characters (I don't suggest you read it in quiet public places). I finished each of these books in 2 sittings the most.
Alex Sinclair has a huge talent for hooking you from page one and not allowing you to breathe... at. all... until the final twist knocks you off your feet! The "holy cow did that just happen" feeling will grip you every time you read an Alex Sinclair book and this one is no different!
The best thing about this book is how believable yet unbelievable the plot seems. Grace and John out celebrating their anniversary like any other couple might, when BAM... the unthinkable happens and Grace's life is turned upside down. Well the plot will certainly thicken and just when you think it can't get any more crazy, BAM... twist of the century! 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ so far Sinclair is 3 for 3 in the awesomeness category as far as "Two Girls and a Book Obsession" are concerned! Love, Love, Love! Go buy it!

I have been a fan of Alex Sinclair’s since I picked up his debut novel ‘The Last Thing I Saw’ in April 2018. Since then he has released another two novels ‘The Day I Lost You’ and the second of which ‘Tell Me No Lies’ was released on 25th October 2018. I absolutely loved reading ‘Tell Me No Lies’ but more about that in a bit.
The two main characters in this book are Grace and her husband John. Grace is married to John and it’s on their fifth wedding anniversary that John is knocked over and killed by a hit and run driver. Now Grace has double the reason to remember the date. It’s fair to say that the date will be forever etched on her brain. John is a bit of a mystery in a way because it appears that he has been keeping the odd secret or two from Grace. Grace suffers terribly after John has been killed as she desperately tries to make sense of what happened. She sinks further and further into depression, which is understandable. Grace begins to see things but is she really seeing them or is her mind playing tricks on her? Just what is it that John has been up to behind his wife’s back? Is everything as it seems? Well for the answers to those questions and more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out as I am not going to tell you.
‘Tell Me No Lies’ is well written. After the Prologue, the chapters change between the time of the accident and six weeks after the accident. The chapters interlink really well and the story flows seamlessly as a result. The author’s writing style is such that he grabs your attention from the first word on the first page and he keeps your attention until the last word on the last page. It’s almost as if he casts a spell over you- well that’s what happened to me anyway. I soon became addicted reading this book and I had to keep reading to see how the story panned out and if everything really was as it seemed. The more I read, the more I wanted to read and the more intrigued I was by the book. The pages seemed to fly past at speed and before I knew what was happening I had finished the book, which I was so disappointed about. Don’t get me wrong, I was pleased to finish the book because I knew how the story ended but I was enjoying the author’s writing style, the storylines and the characters so much that I just wanted the book to continue. Reading this book was a bit like being on a very unpredictable rollercoaster ride with no idea of who or what to believe and no idea of which direction the story is going to take you next.
In short, I really did enjoy reading ‘Tell Me No Lies’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I can’t wait to read what Alex comes up with next. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.

It should have been the best night of their lives. Grace and John Dalton are out celebrating their fifth anniversary. After dinner, while walking back to their car, John receives a phone call and steps away from Grace. Surprisingly, he is hit by a speeding car and suddenly dies. Grace becomes overwhelmed with grief and depression. She struggles to accept the loss of her husband after just five years of marriage. When she finally decided to bury him and try to move on she starts to get very strange messages.

After his funeral Grace sees a lawyer who tells her that John had a one million dollar policy out on them and had a secret bank account. Grace is shocked because this is not the John she knew. They did not keep secrets from one another. At least that is what she thought.

While Grace seeps deeper into depression, she reluctantly begins to rely on her good friend, Jennifer. Before her husband’s death, Jennifer and Grace were inseparable. Now their relationship is quite strained. However, Jennifer does her best try to help Grace.

During most of the story, Grace is seen as a broken, depressed woman. I began to wonder more than once whether or not the story would change directions. As the story progressed, there were things about John that Grace was learning and, sadly, she realized that he definitely was not the man that she thought he was.

Tell Me No Lies was written from Grace’s first-person point of view. The story fluctuates between Then and Now, adding to the intrigue. This is because clues about John were slowly being delivered.

It was at this point in the story where it picked up to the degree that the suspense increased on several levels. It ceased to be just the story of Grace grieving. It is really hard to say more at this point in the review without giving spoilers so that others will not be able to enjoy this story. This book had a slow-boiling plot and believable characters, especially when Grace is forced to explore her own sanity. At some point the story started to reveal itself. But don’t be fooled, be prepared for a shocking conclusion. This is definitely a compelling read.

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

An amazing psychological thriller

This is the first book that I have read by this author, but I will certainly search out more of his other ones. I absolutely loved this and was gripped from the beginning to the totally unexpected ending.

Grace has been married to John for 5 years. They both have jobs at the local hospital; Grace is a nurse and John is working hard to become a physician. Due to their intense jobs, they have begun to drift apart, but Grace is determined to change this. They are having dinner for their anniversary and her special present is a baby’s pacifier telling her husband that she is finally ready to start a family. Grace knows John will be happy but finds it very hard to find the right time to tell him. They are outside the restaurant where John is answering a phone call when a pick-up truck smashes into him, killing him instantly right in front of Grace.

We are taken through the intense shock and grief that Grace is suffering, but we then begin to learn more about their life together and discover that maybe their marriage was not as perfect as it originally seemed. The author builds up their life together bit by bit and we realise that all was not well in particular with John.

After the hit and run Grace is plunged into depression, leaning heavily on her best friend, Jennifer. However Grace is convinced that she has seen John watching her in the street, She finds an entry on Facebook made after John has died. She receives strange texts and discovers that unbeknown to her, John has taken out a life insurance policy and she will now inherit half a million dollars but the payments were made from an account that Grace knew nothing about. Everything conspires to make Grace think that she is losing her mind and Jennifer becomes so worried about her that she insists that Grace sees a psychiatrist. This only makes Grace feel worse as she starts to wonder if she is hallucinating.

The more she discovers, the worse everything becomes especially when Grace discovers that John had taken a day off work on their anniversary without telling her. She begins to feel that she has never really known her husband at all.

For me, this was one of those books which I just could not put down, I really tried to work out what was happening but didn’t even get close. An amazing ending; read it and see what you think.

Perfect psychological thriller! It moved at a fast pace with twists and turns throughout! I couldn’t put it down! Highly recommend!

I wasn’t going to read this book, and I should have stuck with my initial plan.

This book just dragged on and on without a whole lot of plot, and the small amount of story it DID have was very predictable and not exciting at all.
Another annoying thing was that it kept mentioning how the main character, Grace, had family and a mom who loved her and would support her, but not once did it have any interaction with said family. You would think when one was going through such a difficult time that there would be at least a phone call? Anything? Nope.

I enjoyed this thriller and it kept me wanting to read on. A good ending too. I think this is the second book I have read by this author and both were good.

Headline: Gripping Psychological Thriller!

The prologue starts out with a bang! I am hooked at this beginning and and ready for my reading journey.

The story revolves around a young couple planning on celebrating their 5th wedding anniversary. John is an intern in the ICU unit and Grace is a registered nurse working at the same hospital where they work so many hours that there isn't much time leftover to enjoy themselves as they had in the early years of their relationship, but they seem to be looking forward to making some changes and starting a family in the near future.
Sometimes though, life made it's own changes while they were busy making other plans.
The mystery is centered around reality vs hallucinations or possible delusions which may have the power to shatter a fragile mind. So the story continues and continues and .................

I was excited to read this book, unfortunately the suspense and mystery took way too long to come upon. I should have read this book in a day or two, but I found the suspense very tedious and slow going and I would lose interest and not want to pick the book up again.
I felt the book could have been shortened due to so many repetitive statements of the character's thoughts and internal dialogue about everything that would occur each day.

The real suspense and action took place in the last 25 pages or so, then it became more interesting though predictable. I found too many situations implausible for a marriage of 5 years and the couple seemed very disconnected, if they really were in love with one another. With that said, these are my personal opinions and I still recommend this book since many other readers have enjoyed this book. This just was not my cup of tea.

I want to thank Netgally and bookouture for allowing me to read this
ARC for my own and unbiased opinion!

I have given this book a rating of 2 1/2 🌟🌟✴ stars!

This was the second novel I have read by Alex Sinclair and I was not disappointed. Sinclair has a wonderful way of writing that keeps the reader’s interest and has you hooked from the very first page!

Three words to describe Tell Me No Lies – Betrayal, Lies and Deception! This book was amazing and oh the lies! There were lies, lies and more lies! The sweet man Grace thought she was married to turned out to have so many shocking secrets and hidden truths it is hard to believe what is real and what is imagined.

The story is told in alternating timelines. Some chapters are written in the present and some chapters are written 6 weeks ago on the night of their 5th Wedding Anniversary.

Do we ever truly know the person we are in love with? Can we always believe everything we see and are told? This book will have you sitting on the edge of your seat as you read along. A gripping psychological thriller that will leave you gasping and open mouthed as you read along.

I felt sorry for Grace and all the turmoil she goes through after the death of her husband John. She struggles with her mental health and dealing with his sudden loss of his life. She finds it difficult to carry on with her routine day to day tasks and struggles with telling the difference between reality and her imagination. Is Grace going crazy or is someone playing mind games with her? She really does not know!

I felt so bad for Grace and reading about her struggles. She is clearly going through a very difficult time and it was nice to read about how her good friend Jennifer was there for her in so many ways and helping her through her grieving process.

I enjoyed the many twists and turns in this book. There were several moments in the book where I was shocked with what I was learning and reading and many things I did not see coming at all. And the ending! Oh so very good!

All the stars for this book! If you haven’t read this book yet be sure to add it to your TBR list. My second time reading Alex Sinclair, still no regrets. I loved The Day I Lost You and wanted to read more! I knew I would enjoy Tell Me No Lies.

4 stars. Captivating from page one.
Life can change in a second. Grace loses her husband John, tries to grieve, then finds out what he left behind... But he wasn't the only one with secrets...
You don't want to put it down, gripping until the last page!

Tell Me No Lies, by Alex Sinclair

Short Take: When Hell overflows, the dead shall walk the earth. Or maybe there’s a simpler explanation.

(*Note: I received an advance copy of this book for review.*)

It’s beyond a cliche to say that life can change in an instant, but it’s also very true. Every major event has that one pivotal second: the plus sign appearing on a pregnancy test, the mugger pulling out a gun, a gurgling sound from the lower abdomen.. We can all point to that one moment in our own lives just before everything takes a drastic turn and there’s no going back.

For Grace Dalton, that one moment comes when she and her beloved husband John are walking to their car after a lovely dinner celebrating their fifth anniversary. A pickup truck comes flying out of nowhere, and in seconds, John is dead in her arms.

The following weeks are a blur of grief, but eventually, Grace begins to return to her world, and that’s when things start getting weird. She sees John watching her, she passes out at inconvenient times, and sometimes does things that she has no memory of doing.

It also becomes increasingly obvious that John was involved in Something Shady.

Now, this all sounds like a really cool setup for a supernatural horror novel, in which John was a member of a Satanic cult and is currently screwing with Grace from the afterlife. However, this is not that book.

Tell Me No Lies is a paint-by-numbers thriller. The one major revelation is pretty easy to guess, and the rest of them aren’t really consequential.

Twisty plots are difficult to pull off. I love them, but I’m the first to say that I’m not a writer, and the main reason is that I can’t think of any good ones myself. A swing-and-a-miss plotwise isn’t the worst sin an author can commit, but unfortunately, once Mr. Sinclair takes a turn to BadBookTown, he floors it.

One of the biggest issues I had was the barely-sketched characters. Grace is pretty meh, passive and dull through most of the book. Her best friend Jennifer is, quite simply The Worst. She swings wildly between “Let me be your friend and be there for you and do whatever you need me to do” and “You’re not grieving like I think you should, I’m going to take my metaphorical toys and flounce dramatically out of your life”, back and forth, sometimes in a matter of hours or even minutes. John is a cypher, of course, since he dies in the first chapter, but as information is dribbled out about his life, there are still a lot of major pieces left out of the picture.

There’s also another issue I had that I am hesitant to post, because it would probably be construed as a major spoiler. So I will just say that [spoiler] a crucial scene just doesn’t work. It’s too drastic of a change in tone, and doesn’t fit with anything that’s been shown to that point.

The Nerd’s Rating: TWO HAPPY NEURONS (and a coffee and a BLT, because after hearing them mentioned so many times, I am craving them.)

I was really excited to read this book, it is not as fast paced as his previous book. This is a really slow burner and it definitely needs to be because you have so much information, and doubt to be formed in your mind for this to play out. Following the weeks after Grace loses her husband John, and dealing with her loss, whilst at the same time learning of the last day they spent together.

We open to the happy couple walking home from the dinner, Grace with a takeaway coffee, John slightly distracted on the phone and BAM he is knocked down by a hit and run! Well hello, that was quite a devasting way to start a book!

Life as Grace knows it unravels. Secrets unravelled but not just John’s, we learn that Grace to has secrets that she had been keeping from us, the happy little life we thought she had was not necessarily true.

And then BAM again! That ending! Before I had a chance to get my head around it, it was over! Seriously! What are you doing to me!! How did we get to A – B? I was blind sighted and it was over so quickly. I still can’t get my head round A-B?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!? The actions and reasonings, I mean MAN!!!!! I had my own theories going on, but I didn’t come close this time with this time!

Again, Alex somehow has got into a woman’s psyche and depicted her in a way where I thought I would probably act! Ok, some of her actions annoyed the hell out of me in the “then” chapters as I don’t think I would have acted like it, I think I would questioning everything not playing the happy dutiful wife, but then I don’t know when to stop! But in the “now” chapters, I probably would act as she had, maybe with the same amount of crazy town.

I don’t think this book is as strong as The Day I lost you, (that was one intense OMFG journey!) but I still found myself flitting through the pages at such speed to find out what was going on and whether Grace was really just crazy! I still loved reading this book, because I love Alex’s writing! I could lose myself in his books and never get bored.

Grace watches as her husband, John Dalton, is the victim of a hit and run. They had been out celebrating their 5th wedding anniversary when he's hit and killed in the middle of the street. Grace sinks into despondency and depression with only her friend, Jennifer, sticking by to try to help her through the funeral and the visit to the lawyer about John's estate. They'd barely been making ends meet as Grace was working as a nurse and John in residency at the hospital. So, it's a total shock when she's given the news that John had bought a life insurance policy with money he'd kept in a secret bank account. And then, other strange things begging to happen as Grace tries to figure out what is going on and who John Dalton really was.

Well. I read this in a couple of hours and must say it wasn't very thrilling or suspenseful. The very predictable psychological drama has been told before and was mostly a cliche in terms of the setup, the action and the conclusion. No surprises here. I actually detested Grace and couldn't for the life of me understand where her parents were throughout all this affair. I just wanted to shake her until her teeth rattled -- oops, that's not very nice of me with her being a new widow and all. Lots of repetition and internal stream of consciousness angst while the other stereotypical characters played out their roles. In all honesty, I was very disappointed as I've read other books by this author that I've enjoyed so much more. I'll just chalk this as a one off miss.

I'd like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for providing the e-book ARC for me to read and review and look forward to Mr. Sinclair's next book.
