Many of us begin each new year by making resolutions and setting goals—but, somewhere along the way, we often find ourselves giving up on our goals because they seem too big or too crazy. But in her book Be Fearless: 5 Principles for a Life of Breakthroughs and Purpose, author and investor Jean Case encourages readers to dream bigger and make those dreams come true.

Review published on NightsAndWeekends.com and aired on Shelf Discovery.

A nice, brisk, easy read of doable steps -- make a big bet/dream big and then go make it happen, and if you fail on the attempt, try again and learn to create success. Filled with mostly familiar stories to motivate you -- if normal humans like Steve Jobs and the author herself can take one step forward, so can you.

BE FEARLESS by Jean Case outlines "5 Principles for a Life of Breakthroughs and Purpose:" make a "big bet," take bold risks, learn from failures, reach beyond your bubbles, and let urgency conquer fear. Splitting the book into those 5 parts, Case relates numerous examples in chapters with titles like "Be Audacious," "Get Uncomfortable," and "Fail in the Footsteps of Giants." Business teachers and students, particularly those curious about social impact investing, will be drawn to this text and will appreciate its ties to our school motto: "to commit minds to inquiry, hearts to compassion, and lives to the service of humanity." BE FEARLESS has received positive reviews from Melinda Gates, Adam Grant, Eric Schmidt and many other philanthropists and business professionals.

I enjoyed this book a lot! It was easy to read and very uplifting. I'm a note taker with self=help books, and I took a decent amount of notes throughout this book.

This book is a call to action for those seeking to live extraordinary lives and bring about transformational change.

When National Geographic Chairman Jean Case set out to investigate the core qualities of great change makers, past and present, from inventors to revolutionaries, she found five surprising traits all had in common. They weren’t wealth, privilege, or even genius. It was that all of these exceptional men and women made a big bet, took risks, learned from their failures, reached beyond their bubble, and let urgency conquer fear.

Be Fearless mixes storytelling and strategy, practical tips and inspiration, to teach individuals and organizations how to put these five principles to work so that they too can spark the sorts of remarkable breakthroughs that change the world.

This self-help book is more than just another stop being afraid to do something narrative. It’s an encouraging, up-lifting, positive affirmation we all needed that we can make a difference.

The set up of the book was nice. Each chapter is also broken up into small sections that are also just as powerful as the overall story.

There is a strong voice in this book that makes it seem more like a narrative and less like a self-help book.

I also really liked the sectioned quotes between large paragraphs that are from successful people like Jeff Bezos, current Amazon CEO.

This needs to be distributed and pushed heavily. Simon & Schuster did a great job with this title and I hope it succeeds.
