Although I have not yet read the first book in this series, I didn't really feel like I was missing anything or that anything was left out. Robert has a way of giving enough back story that you know what's happened previously, without it becoming an info dump.

What I liked about this book was Journey's transformation and Frank's unwavering support. Sensitive subjects were handled with respect and sensitivity. (Kudos to Robert for writing a POC character and their experiences without getting preachy.)

What I didn't like was some of the clothing choices. It's a little thing, but when a person is traumatised or about to confess a long held secret I would expect them to wear layers as protection/comfort, as had happened earlier in the book.

I also wasn't a fan of how Anderson was spoken about like an all-powerful protector, but then he seemed to flail helplessly when danger appeared.

Overall, Robert has delivered another incredible read. She knows how to weave an interesting tale, liberally sprinkled with steamy hot scenes. I can hardly wait for the next in the series, and I'm eager to grab a copy of Beckett's story!

Robert blends suspense with erotic romance with a delicious enemies to lovers tale.

The Fearless King is my first Robert’s novel. Call me ‘pleasantly surprised’, as I dove into this story and found myself lost in the pages. For the second book in the series, this one stands alone very well and with enemies to lover’s trope, the fake boyfriend trope, and possible corporate espionage I got sucked in fast.

When I first saw the cover and the blurb, I believed this book centered on the hero, Frank, but come to find out the heroine, Journey is the King specified. I can’t go into details without ruining the story, but let’s just say the heroine had a lot of demons to overcome. The hero merely provides her with the chance to face them and come out stronger in the end.

The internal conflict of this story involves those darker elements; I was surprised by them, but not overwhelmed. Fans who enjoy characters with dark backstories will like what their heroine and hero bring to the table. The dark pasts don’t stop Journey or Frank from connecting with each other in the present, if anything those demons lingering help them connect to one another.

Dialogue and interactions are on point. With the tension thicker than a New York style cheesecake. How the pair fall for each is equally enjoyable. And though they come together a little fast, this doesn’t constitute as insta-lust since the two characters have had business dealings in the past.

There are secondary plot elements that help set up future books, and create a sense of loyalty to Journey and her siblings. I’m interested to see that every single one of the King’s gets their HEA. If Roberts other books are anything like this one, I’ll definitely keep reading. Her stories have a hint of suspense and play out similar to a psychological thriller with plenty of high heat and erotic elements.

If you’ve enjoyed Beth Kery in the past you’ll like Roberts. Personally, I am going to mine her backlist.

Katee Roberts does it again. The Fearless King is a gripping, nail-biting thriller and a prickly romance. There's no doubt Frank Evans is focus and ruthless when it comes to business and business is his entire life. He's always been attracted to Journey King. Their competing businesses and a potential for a deal between the two companies has kept Frank from pursuing anything with Journey. Now this strong, capable woman needs help, help she's not good at asking for, and Frank is there for her. Though he acts as if it's strictly to get a business advantage, he's soon in far over his head with his growing attachment to Journey.

Journey's hard on herself. Her father, a horrible man, can change this strong woman back into a scared child far too quickly. Frank's support helps tremendously and the best thing he does is point out how strong Journey is even when she thinks she's not.

I enjoyed watching Journey and Frank get in their own ways on their road to a happily ever after. When I say "prickly" I mean it. These two do everything to push each other away. It's a hard fought battle to get anywhere close to a relationship started.

I think every strong woman deals with some of what Journey does doubting her strength. It's not easy to find a man who can handle both sides - strong and not so strong. Frank is that man.

The characters are relatable, the plot is INTENSE and the book was a great read.

the kings series continues with the fearless king, and honestly, the only fearless person in this whole novel is frank evans. the king siblings are running scared, terrified by the reappearance of their deadbeat, abusive jerk of a father.

the trauma of that abuse is a real, living thing in journey. when she seeks frank out, it's because the moments she's in his arms, those are the only moments she feels safe from the minute she is aware of her father's inglorious return to her life.

some of that pain is absolutely visceral to read. and the effects of that trauma on the individual king siblings is something that will reverberate throughout the series, i think. i want to keep reading, i'm so compelled by this family. much like the o'malleys i want them to find their way to some sort of peace.

**the fearless king will publish on february 5, 2019. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/grand central publishing (forever) in exchange for my honest review.

I would definitely recommend reading the first book in the Kings series before starting this one. This book jumps right in from the get go. It took me a minute to catch up. I still felt a touch out of pocket for most of the book.

I loved Frank. Who doesn’t love a sexy, chocolate man that protects his own fiercely? I liked Journey as a heroine. She went through so much, but came out a strong woman. The secondary characters were well done. I’m excited for more to come.

Thank you Forever Romance for providing me an early copy.

3.5 Stars. I had completely forgot about this series until I saw this book on NetGalley. I was ready to continue the story that started in Book 1. The family drama continues in this one. Journey's father is back and whew boy is he an evil, evil man. Great chemistry between Frank and Journey lends to a wonderful book. Story lines get wrapped up and new questions/possible storylines are developed. It'll be interesting to see how the next book in these series plays out.

This was a nerve wrecking read and I cursed every time I had to put the book down. I feel like the plot thickens and I can’t wait for the next King book.

I love how I was kept wondering what is going to happen next. And the romance build between Frank and Journey is sizzling with feelings and chemistry.

All the characters is well written and I want to know what happens to them all. Robert manages to build a world that intrigues me and makes me want more.

There’s no unnecessary descriptions of surroundings and plenty of dialogues to keep the story going forward in a steady pace.

There’s also some steamy love scenes that’s tasteful but makes me blush.

If you like a book that keeps your interest and makes you don’t want to stop reading I recommend you jump on this one. 5 🌟

The Fearless King is the second book in Katee Robert’s latest series The Kings. The book can be read as a standalone although it follows events in the first book. Here the story continues with Journey King and Frank Evans as the main leads and like the previous book The Fearless King is extremely sexy and hot. Journey and Frank’s chemistry is undeniable and therefore each interaction drips sexual tension. But this book also deals with a lot of childhood trauma, more so in Journey’s case. Because this is a series there are a lot of subplots going on and as I said in the previous book, The Kings as a series definitely gives out a Dynasty/Dallas vibe but with more action, heaps of betrayal and yes violence. I do like how the series is shaping up and will definitely continue reading the series.

4.5 Stars Katee Robert is such a master at family drama and suspense. In The Fearless King, the continuation of the King family drama starts off with another family member. The branches to their family tree proves that even some family can’t be trusted. A fact Journey King and her siblings are far to aware of. In The Last King, cousin Beckett King, defeated his aunt and her attempts to rid him from the family. Now that she’s basically banished, there is a void that the worst of the worst shows up to fill. Journey King was an incredible characters. Even in her weakest moments she showed incredible strength. Which also becomes more apparent when someone she cares about is in danger. She finds it hard to defend herself at times, but ALWAYS rises to the occasion to pretext someone she loves. Even when she was at her lowest, she didn’t like Frank Evans being her knight in shining armor. She didn’t want to be a damsel to be saved. She wanted help to gather the strength to save herself. It was incredible. Frank Evans is one of the most powerful men in the city and can hold his own against a family as formidable as the Kings, so he has no hesitation when Journey comes to him for help. Both characters shared incredible chemistry that started out as a fire fueled “frenemy” type relationship. They’d always had a strong friction between them during occasional business dealings but once they both let their guards down, falling was inevitable for them both. This story was suspenseful from beginning to end and I’m looking forward to more adventures with the King family.

Last year when I finished THE LAST KING I couldn't wait to get my hands on Frank's book. He was an enigmatic man who, when in the same room with Journey King, did nothing but argue with her. They had quite the dynamic so I was giddy to see how they would work out.

While I got to know Journey I realized how broken she really is. There are two people in this world who are supposed to protect you and love you unconditionally. While her mother wasn't the warmest person and a monster in her own right, she did protect Journey. Her father was the kind of man nightmares were made of - cruel and abusive with his kids, punishing them in horrific ways and it left marks on his children's souls. Now Elliott is back and he is the same monster he was when he was chased out of the city by Journey's mom.

***Victim yet again. I had a chance to fight, and all I did was collapse in a ball and wait for him to hurt me. Pathetic. Worthless. Coward.***

It was amazing and beautiful to watch Journey grow stronger under Frank's watchful and protective eyes. He gave her strength and guided her to see what a force she was. With that weight of her father threatening her pressing down on her she was completely stressed out which led to a lot of bristling and straining against Frank's protectiveness and good intentions but the more comfortable she grew in her relationship him, the funnier and more natural, the more fearless and courageous she became. I wouldn't call her sweet but I admired the shit out of her and I loved her fire, sass, cleverness and attitude.

“Dang, Frank, I’m going to have to be careful. At this point, I actually like you, and you fuck like a dream. You aren’t a secret duke or something, are you? Because the only way you could be more perfect was if there was a title involved."

Frank lost both his parents. His dad to criminal injustice in prison and his mom to cancer which she denied to be treated for. And Frank had to watch helplessly, incapable of saving either of them. He swore then that he'd always take care of the people he loved.

“You don’t have to protect me, Duchess.”
She didn’t blink. “If I don’t, who will?”
Frank didn’t have an answer for that. He didn’t know if there was an answer for that. People didn’t protect him. He protected his people.

Like Journey Frank fights her when Journey's own protectiveness shows but he also learns that it's not a sign of weakness to let her take care of him. He has to tone down his instincts but he learns to give Journey free reign to become the strong woman that he knows is inside her. Frank was hella sexy and charismatic. I loved his protectiveness but also that he was able to give in. Frank earned Journey's trust, every day a little bit more. He knew she was broken but he saw the beauty in that because it made her the strong woman he was falling hard for.

***The mix of bristling hurt and sweetness never failed to surprise him, though she didn’t seem to realize that there was a molten strength beneath it all.***

The suspense aspect was well executed and had me holding my breath on and off. Elliott King was creepy, as in CREEPY and personally, I think he got away too easy. There is a mini-cliffy that concerns the King siblings baby sister and I'm looking forward to see how that pans out. I have a theory and I'm looking forward to seeing if I'm correct.

The Fearless King was a super enjoyable installment in this series. It had a lot of steam and sexual tension, complex characters who had an intense connection that made sense despite their complicated relationship. I hope Katee Robert won't leave us waiting too long for the next book.

The Fearless King is the second book in The Kings series and is not a complete stand-alone book. The main plot is the continuation of book one and you need to have fresh the events of The Last King if you don't want to feel like a fish out of the water. I wonder how much I will remember once book 3 is released because a lot of things are going on in this book and I am certain I won't remember them all. The most important thing is that Journey and Frank got their happy end.

I need to be completely honest here and say that the book could have been better. I don't know if I am at fault for not remembering everything or it was the book, but I wasn't satisfied with this story. It was lacking something for me. After revisiting my review of The last king, I am starting to think that the series is not for me 100% since neither book blew my mind and it's sad since I like Katee Robert's books. I love the model on the cover though. Whoever picked him up did a good job.

Is Eliza's point of view an indication that the next book will be hers? I hope so. She got dealt a bad hand and she has to play with it. Usually, I am up for a third point of view, but most of the time I felt like it wasn't needed.

Overall, I can say that I have mixed feelings for this book. One part of me didn't like it much and the other kept on reading so I know that it wasn't awful. A 3-star rating can fairly reflect my feelings for this book since in my world, 3.5 stars are the average and this one was slightly below from that.

I have a minor obsession with the King family and a major obsession with Frank Evans. This book was totally addicting and edge of your seat. There is nothing that will hook me quicker than a fake relationship that turns real and that is exactly what Journey and Frank’s relationship is. But there is more to it than that and that is what I ended up truly loving about this book. This isn’t just a typical romance. There are some darker themes in this book, heavy things that each character deals with like abuse and the past. Between those themes and the romance this book was an amazing balance. Sure there were a few questionable moments for me, but that didn’t take away from the fact that this was an A+ reading experience. The King family is one you need to meet and Frank Evans needs to be in your life for sure! Check this series out.

The Story in 4 Sentences or Less: Journey King can handle anyone and anything. Except her cruel father, he makes her revert to the helpless child she once was and when he comes back to Houston with more than just a company take over in mind, Journey turns to Frank Evans for help. Frank’s ability to get information on anyone is what makes him such a good ally but it also puts him in a position to learn more about Journey than she’s comfortable with but she has no choice and something about him draws her and makes her start thinking that maybe it isn’t a bad thing to let someone in.

Like It? Hate it? Love it? Why? The Fearless King couldn’t have been more enjoyable if it was wrapped up in unicorn sparkles and served with Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake (My newest food obsession).

Journey King fascinated me as a character. On the surface it looks like she’s got everything anyone could want: looks, riches, power, and control. She’s running a powerful empire alongside her eldest brother and she appears to be the very definition of a BOSS. But underneath that very thin surface is another Journey King: An insecure, terrified woman trying to run from her demons and that made her more than just another character in a book. As a victim of physical, mental, and emotional abuse, Journey had been conditioned to react certain ways in certain situations and I could relate to her perfectly on that level.

Frank on the other hand remained a bit of an enigma to me throughout most of the story. He was definitely an alpha male with his take charge, take-no-prisoners attitude when it came to business but as he started learning more and more about Journey and her childhood it was like a flip switched and he started to show a softer side of himself, kind of a modern day knight in (tarnished) armor. I say modern day because while Frank was all about making sure Journey was safe, he learned that it was important for Journey to prove she could save herself to some degree. Frank was all about standing by Journey while she slayed her own dragons and if she needed help? All she had to do was ask and he was there. Can you say super hot? I love a man who can be an alpha but knows the importance and value of an independent, slay-your-own-demons woman. That’s part of what made their chemistry so addictive.

The Kings are a broken family with tons of issues and some surprising secrets. They’re far from perfect and this book reminds readers of that with the cat-and-mouse game that Journey’s father plays. The tension and suspense definitely made The Fearless King one of those can’t put it down because I have to see what happens next books. I’m definitely invested in this family and their rapidly shifting dynamics. At this point I’m eager for all of the remaining Kings to have their stories told. But I am surprised that with all that happened with Journey’s parents that there isn’t at least one illegitimate child running around. Now wouldn’t that be something?

Click It or Skip It? Click it. I’m not usually one for family drama but Katee Robert makes sure that the drama is just as addictive as the romance.

Book two in Katee Robert’s Kings Series, The Fearless King is set in Houston Texas and centers around the eldest King daughter, Journey, and the family’s oil company. As one of the oldest King siblings, Journey clearly remembers the abuse suffered at the hand of her estranged father, so when he arrives at the company she runs in tandem with her brother Anderson she knows it can’t be good. Her father’s plan to have her psychologically assessed by a psychologist on his payroll and deemed unfit to be COO is even worse than she thought. The years of abuse her father inflicted on her have taken their toll, and Journey often feels a hair’s breadth away from dissolving into a useless heap of fear and nerves. This is how Journey finds herself asking for help from the last person she should ask for help, Frank Evans.

Frank Evans, entrepreneur and collector of information, never expected to be approached by Journey King. As the best friend to her estranged cousin and business rival and the reason her mother is no longer welcome in Houston, to say that Frank and Journey have differences is putting it mildly. The thing Journey doesn’t know about Frank though is that he’s a fixer, a veritable white knight who can’t help but step up when he sees a person struggling, especially a woman and especially a woman that pushes all of his sexual buttons like Journey.

In a story that gets more suspenseful as more secrets are revealed, Frank and Journey learn to trust each other and trust the emotions growing between them while discovering that sometimes the knight in shining armour is needed more support than defending, because sometimes the King had it in her all along.

I really enjoyed The Fearless King! Katee Robert does a really great job of balancing all the elements of the story. There’s elements of drama, suspense, romance and plain out sexiness and all of them work together in a really organic way; no element seemed forced or over used. Now, I didn’t realize that this is the second book in Robert’s Kings series, so there were a couple times that I felt having that extra history would have been helpful. Overall though, this can easily be read as a stand-alone.

The main characters, Frank and Journey were a real treat to read. Each character had a well defined backstory and clear motivations. The two fit well together as a couple, were easy to relate to and invest in emotionally. I particularly liked watching Journey come to realize her own potential and overcome her horrible past. Side characters were also well written and generously fleshed out. I’m looking forward to reading about the other King siblings.

Katee Robert does romance with dark secrets and intense family drama really well.I highly recommend The Fearless King and look forward to reading more from the King series.

What a man...
What a man...
What a mighty good man."
Salt & Peppa

Journey King has been through a lot lately. (See Kings #1)
As acting head of Kingdom Corp., in the absence of her mother. Journey now finds herself on the frontline of a new fight.
Against an old foe.
Her father.

Elliott Bancroft has it all. He is rich, poised, charming, and...
A monster!
And with his wife no longer acting as head of the company she founded. He and those who aid him; are out for blood.
At any cost.
Just when you thought that the scheming, plotting, and backbiting of the King empire couldn't get any more devious.
Along comes book two in the series.
And this time it's more personal than ever.

Enter Frank Evans...
Frank is known among the King's as a man who can get things done. As well as one of the few people that can be trusted to keep secrets.
As we found out in a big way via book one.
But what we didn't know was that Journey and Frank have an attraction.
So it brooks no question that when things go south for our leading lady. Her knight of choice is one of the darker persuasion.
Pun intended...

Journey and Frank's story is a great deal more intense than that of Beckett and Samara. This is due to the fact that the horrors of their respective pasts loom very large on the horizon of their futures. And have the very real possibility of destroying everything and everyone that they hold dear.
For Journey...
Her father has always been a very real danger to both her and her siblings. Abusing them all both physically and mentally for a large part of their childhoods.
For Frank...
The mere fact that he is a black man of power and means in the heart of the "good ole boy" network that is Texas. Should be enough.
But no...
He is still reeling from both the wrongful conviction of his father for murder. And his subsequent murder in prison.
And the way in which said murder contributed to his mother's death from cancer.

Because the pain of their pasts rides so close to the surface. The need to protect that they bring out in each other makes the back and forth fight for control that Beckett and Samara had to give voice to completely unnecessary.
It was just a given. No matter the situation.

And speaking of situations...
There are so many.
That involve so many other people.
And do far more than sex ever could to draw these two together.

Not that the sex isn't AWESOME!
It is...
The sex in Journey and Frank's story is also a great deal more raw. Mirroring their psyches and general states of being.
And the fact that it comes with just the right amount of ph-so-alpha S&M.
Ohhhhhh yeah!

In short.
This story is about the coming together of two knights working together to slay some very REAL dragons. Both in business and in life.

Katee Robert is a favorite author for a number of reasons, and all of them are present in her latest release, “The Fearless King.” There is passion, intensity, romance, wit, charm and excitement. She manages to tick all the boxes for me, plus a few I didn’t even know I had!
The second book in her “Kings” series, we get to follow Frank and Journey as they navigate their way to a happily ever after. Both characters were introduced in the first book, “The Last King,” and I was thrilled that their story was next.
Frank and Journey are both dealing with their own demons. Journey is living with a painful and devastating past. She finds herself not only asking for Frank’s help, but confiding in him, letting him into her tortured past when she had always hidden it from others. And Frank finds himself becoming more and more invested in Journey and their relationship than he ever thought he could be with someone.
For all the pain and struggles they both face, it’s clear that Frank and Journey are both strong, passionate people. And what makes them so compelling is that they not only realize that they are better as a team, but embrace their relationship. They save each other, in ways big and small.
Katee has a way of writing that just makes the story flow so effortlessly. You get sucked into a rich world full of interesting characters and situations. That was certainly the case with “The Fearless King.” And I’m already eagerly and impatiently awaiting the next story in the King saga.

Note: I received an advanced copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

With her mother gone it is up to Journey and her siblings to not only manage company but to protect it from the biggest threat to them all, her estranged father Elliott. They know firsthand the kind of man their father is, and they have managed to distance themselves from him but now he is back with a vengeance. All the feelings that he raised in her are back so she goes to Frank, the one man she thinks can help.

Frank is a successful and powerful man who is best friend’s with Journey’s cousin Beckett but there is no love lost between him and the rest of the Kings. When Journey approaches him for help he knows that he should say no but there is something about her that won’t let him.

Working together to uncover the reason behind her father’s reappearance brings them closer and there is no doubting the chemistry between them, but will they be able to open up and trust each other?

I really enjoyed these two together. Journey shows her strength as she faces her past while even though Frank only wants to protect her, he realizes that helping her face her past is what she really needs. I am looking forward to more of the King family. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

4 1/2 STARS FOR THE FEARLESS KING!! This story is a page Turner with lots of drama, sexiness and fantastic characters. Journey and Frank have a story they need to tell you. This author knows how to suck us readers into the story land. I can't wait for the next book.

This is a captivating read that had me hooked from the beginning. I did not read the first book in the series and did not feel I missed a beat in this dysfunctional family. Journey King is running this business and doing a splendid job until her father decides to come back and try to take over. Yea, not if she has any say over it. Journey turns to the only person she can think of, Frank Evans. He is the only one who can dig up enough dirt to keep her father out of the business and it is going to take a lot of dirt and the dirtier the better. Will Frank and Journey be able to work together and keep it business or will it become more? Oh, this one was so good! I definitely recommend it!

I've devoured the last several Katee Robert books. I like that they have that dark edge to them and not every one is good. They're not all bad, but not good either. The Fearless King is no exception.

Journey and Frank's relationship start off fast, though they've been circling around each other for awhile. Trying to avoid the inevitable. I loved them as a couple, especially since Frank (mostly) respected that Journey need a partner, not a caretaker. The sexytimes were hot (as expected). I wouldn't say no to a Frank in my life. *Fans*

Journey's father is a manipulative piece of shit and I've never wanted a person to go down more than him. Journey and Frank were fighting the good fight to protect the company and their lives. Several other family members also make their appearance, I can't wait to see who the next book is about.
