I usually enjoy books by Roberta Kray but this left me disappointed. Not the usual standard of writing and just a bit slow in parts. I have the impression the book was rushed to the publisher and I just felt a bit bored reading this one until the last few chapters. Thank you Net Galley for my ARC.Reviews on Goodreads and Facebook.

Thankyou to NetGalley, Little Brown Book Group UK, Sphere and the author, Roberta Kray, for the opportunity to read an advanced readers copy of Deceived in exchange for an honest, unbiased opinion.
I love reading this author's novels which is why I jumped at the chance to read this offering.
I loved the storyline of this book. It was well written and thoroughly engrossing. The characters were engaging and realistic. I was on edge until the end as you just don't know what to expect.
Well worth a read.

Deceived by Roberta Kray is another good read set in the east end of London and follows Judith in her quest to find her husband who she presumed had been killed in the war.She is thrown in to the murky underworld of gangster life as she uncovers secrets and lies and murder, you usually know what you are getting with a book by Roberta Kray and this one is no different,a well written stand alone book which although never gripped me from the first page was still a good 4 star read if you enjoy this genre.

Deceived is the first Roberta Kray book that I've read and I was really quite impressed.
In the aftermath of WW2 war widow Judith Jonson is trying to get on with her life in her small northern town while missing her husband Dan. When she picks up a newspaper with a photograph him seemingly alive and well in London she sets out to find the truth. What follows is a quite convoluted tale of villainy, murder ,false identity and past misdeeds set mostly in the bomb wrecked and polluted East End of London and the sleazy environs of post-war Soho.
Roberta Kray has a fluid and easy to read style concentrating more on "telling the story" than florid prose. She expertly creates the atmosphere of the 40's London crime scene with believable characters and settings. Her characters are believable and often complicated and there are some neat twists.,not least the ending. All in all a very good story and I'l certainly read more of Roberta Kray's books.

One of the best books I have read for long time, very well written with gripping, excellent fast pace storyline. Kept me up until late at night. Will be hunting for more books written by Roberta Kray.

Enjoyed this new book from roberta kray although the ending felt a little sudden and rushed and after such a build up i thought it could of been given more detail.

This was a very enjoyable read, transporting you to an atmospheric post-war London, crime families and an undercover detective waging his own war on their activities. Insert the character of an apparently naïve young woman in search of her once-believed-dead husband and, quite frankly chaos rains down on them all. The storyline is well thought-out, the book well-written and contains twists and turns and really unexpected surprises. I particularly liked the epilogue which tied up loose-ends nicely.
A gripping crime thriller.

As one can expect from Roberta Kraya good old fashioned East end crime story. Real life villains and a surprising end. A great read!
