I really liked this book! It was my first of Emma Shortt's and my first in a while on *geeky* type romances so it was fun and quirky! My favorite parts were how the nerdy-ness popped out once in a while with Meg and how Jack fell in love with her because of all her quirks! Her character also made it very relatable because it wasn't so *perfect* as other MCs are in romance novels. I highly recommend this!

A Game of Chance by Emma Shortt is the story of Meg Marlowe and Jack Richards.
Meg is a nerdy computer genius who is sure that the high tech company has stolen her work. Meg sneaks into the building to follow up with doing something about it when she meets Jack. Jack is the owner of the company but stays in the shadows but when he thinks something is going on with the company he looks to find out what is truly going on. Meg and Jack start working together to uncover what is really going on. Meg is in the dark about who he really is so that adds to the drama.
I enjoyed reading their story and will look for more books from this author.

This is my first time reading a book by this author and I enjoyed it. It was a little hard for me to get into the story at the beginning. There were just a few things that were a little too quirky for me but that's just me.

Wow, what a wild ride with this book! When Meg attempts to reach Jack Richards and find out who in his company stole her research, she meets Chance.
Little did Meg know that Jack Chance was Jack Richards which really complicates things when they start their investigation together. Even worse, Meg falls for Chance which is going to lead to problems when she finds out who he really is!
Watching them as they grow to like each other and try to find their leak in the company is so much fun. The answer to the stolen data is not expected but fits when you see the whole picture.
Loved the ending and their HEA.

A little mystery, a little romance, and a whole lot of fun. Meg and Chance are very likeable fun characters, each a little geeky in their own oddball way. They team up to find out who is stealing work from small independent developers like Meg all the while Chance has a secret.
The story had a little too much tech talk for me but the characters kept the story interesting and me turning the pages. The story is cute, and oddly sexy considering the characters. Definitely an entertaining read that I would recommend.

Ohhh I loved Jack!
This is my first book by this author. The story line was great and kept me wanting more.

3.5 Stars A Game of Chance was my first read by this author and overall an enjoyable read. I liked the characters and although the storyline was a bit silly at times it didn’t deter from the enjoyment of the story.

Four stars!
An interesting story of romance and intrigue.

A Game of Chance by Emma Shortt a five-star read you need to take a chance on. This was my first read by this author, but it won’t be the last, this was a great story that the nerd in me rejoiced over. My love of Blue and Jack just made this a brilliant story, the chemistry and comedy between them was sublime. The descriptions were some of the best I’ve read in a long while, I felt like I could be sat at the top of X-Tech, feel the colours reflecting off my skin. I also couldn’t help myself I had to have a slice of Lemon cake just because it was less drastic than dying my hair Blue, that was ow much I adored this story.

An uproariously funny story. Meg aka “Blue” and Chance are just adorable. There first meeting will be a story to be told to the grandkids; “hey when I first met your grandpa I kneed him in the groin”. That was a master tactic. Aside from the blossoming love story there was also the mystery to solve which also led to some awkward moments. Overall a wonderful book.

A Game of Chance was my first book by this author and a pretty fun introduction to her writing. It was full of sweet moments with those hints of drama and also some mystery that kept me intrigued. Both characters were likable and I didn't have any big issues with them.
The three star rating came more from the pace of the book and the fact that sometimes it was a little silly. The way it started off with Meg hiding behind a building with her friend just came off a little weird for me. And then as I read on there were more of those things that would come up every now and then where it was hard for me to connect with Meg and made her seem a little immature.
But those issues aside i did enjoy her romance with Jack and I loved them together as a couple. They were both that perfect blend of nerdy but also really down to earth and together they just worked very well together. I would certainly recommend their story and I'll for sure be reading more of this author in the future.

3.75⭐
A Game of Chance was a good story, that I liked the idea of. I just didn't really connect with it and I found some of the tech talk a little boring and so at times it made me lose interest.
Yet, the characters involved were likable, interesting and different. And they are what kept me reading. Not to mention the story was well paced and packed full of references to Dr Who and many other Sci-fi gems.
But unfortunately as much as I liked the characters, references and enjoyed the story. It never grabbed hold of me. Yet, it has got me interested in a new author and that is never a bad thing.

We have two geeky nerds who have evolved and are perfect for each other. We meet Meg as she goes on a search to who stole her idea, and while on this mission she meet Jack and I have to say I loved them. This was the first time that I have read from this author and I did enjoy the book, it was nice to read the romance building between Meg and Jack..Enjoy!

I received an ARC of this book, through Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.
The genre of this book is what I most often read, however the story or subject matter is not, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to discover an author I hadn’t read before as well as challenge myself to step out of my “norm”. This also gave me a chance to really be objective about the book. Not knowing much about the subject matter gave me an outsiders view of if the author could hold my attention or wrote about something that seemed over my head.
Although the book didn’t 100% grab me the same as some other subject matters do, nothing else fell short for me. The attraction and eventual coming together of the characters was definitely there, as was the HOT factor once they did. I never felt as if the author was speaking about something over my head with the tech talk, nor did she ever go off on a long techy discussion that made me loose interest. There is talk about being “nerds” and touches on what it would be like to grow up with that level of intelligence or lack the same interests as most of your peers, but overall the characters are just normal everyday people who excel at the technology that keeps our world moving forward.
The author’s writing style was nice and the story flowed well. I would definitely recommend this book and Ms. Shortt in the future as well as enjoying more books of hers for myself.
The three stars as opposed to four or five, is simply because the subject matter of the storyline wasn’t one that grabbed me personally and has no reflection on the quality of writing!

This is my first time reading this author and after reading this novel it won't be my last. I actually love nerdy romance novels. There's something about a nerdy guy turned hunk that makes the story enticing. The story is basically about a girl who discovers that a tech company she had interviewed with had stolen her research. In the process of breaking in and retrieving her research she comes across an attractive man with mysterious reasons of being there. She develops feelings for him and he struggles with the guilt of lying about his true identity.
What I found so cute about this couple is how relatable they are. Both smart and geekyly ackward, they find common ground and their connection is combustible.

This was my first experience reading this author's work and I have NetGalley to thank for giving me the opportunity to read and review this ARC. The blurb caught my attention immediately because it sounded different than most of the contemporary romances I've read lately. I liked Meg's character as soon as she was introduced, along with her friend Katie (and I'm thinking I might need to read Katie and Will's story--sounds interesting!) I liked their sisterly/best friend banter throughout the book which was quite amusing. But I think Jack Chance/Jack Richard's character is what sold the book for me--who doesn't like a good-looking, hot nerd? I loved how humble he was considering that he was a CEO of a billion dollar tech company and intelligent beyond belief! Really interesting plot with fun, relatable characters.

I loved this book. I was invested in Meg from the first page and absolutely loved Jake. A really great book!

3 stars- Sometimes being so smart is Not the way to go. Genus is hard. It can separate you from others. Chance seems to have had that happen to him and his personal interaction skills. Our gal is also a smartie but is more sure of herself.
Has a mystery element.

***ARC was provided to me for a fair and honest review***
Overall rating: 4/5 It was a romance novel framed by an amateur detective type story with a CEO.
Heroine (Meg Marlowe PhD): 5/5 Meg has blue hair, a love of sci-fi and all things nerdy (except Star Wars) and while actively trying to solve one of the many unsolved Golden Problems when her work for it is stolen. She wants to get that work back.
Hero (Jack “Chance” Richards): 4/5 Chance was a scrawny geek with unparalleled genius until he gave up his spot as CEO in all but name and went out to find himself across the world all the while building muscle.
Plot: 3/5 Meg and Chance strike out to find who is stealing data from small time developers and giving that information to X Tech, a major technology company.
Personal Review: I liked Meg, but as smart as she is she never figures out who Chance is. It’s essentially told to her. With as many slip ups in character that Chance does she should have at least assumed Chance worked with computers to some extent. But ignoring that, she’s a good character and her story is cute.
What Chance lacks in confidence, Meg makes up for in spades. It was odd (and a clear choice) to have their personalities like that but given their backgrounds one would think that Chance would have gained the confidence needed to navigate the world of the opposite sex while Meg fresh off of having her research stolen should be a little less confident in her abilities, no?

A Game of Chance was such a fun read! The novel follows the story of Meg and Jack Richards/Chance as they try and discover who from the X-Tech company stole Meg’s groundbreaking research.
Ever since his popularity and status as a genius took off, Jack has taken great pains to distance himself from that image. The Jack that Meg meets in Jack Chance, a buffer, bearded, and more emotionally intelligent version of Jack Richards. It is with this name that Chance meets Megan.
The main drive of the story comes from Jack’s introduction to Meg as Chance. That is, instead of revealing that he is in fact Jack Richards, the nerdy genius she is looking for, he introduces himself as Jack Chance, Private Investigator.
I really enjoyed Jack as a character, he was a strange blend of charming and shy. Charming in how he romanced and treated Meg and shy in how he would often think back to his research into romantic desire and interactions. Normally I wouldn’t usually enjoy a romance based so much on deception but the chapters written in Jacks POV, really endeared him to me.
In addition to having two ‘nerdy’ characters A Game of Chance features so many popular culture references. You can’t finish a chapter without stumbling upon a reference to a film, book, or game – I loved it! Seeing two characters share a love of Sci-fi and seeing their internal monologues about their feelings towards the others fandoms was so fun. The fretting by Jack about his light-sabre collection after Meg said she didn’t enjoy the Star Wars series made me smile.
While the math part of the story was way over my head, the part it played in the story was very well done. At no stage did I feel like I was missing out on anything through my lack of knowledge about the more technical sides of the story.
A Game of Chance was an incredibly fun romance which had me smiling throughout the novel. I found that I genuinely liked the characters and was emotionally invested in seeing their story play out. I would really recommend A Game of Chance for anyone looking for a romance story filled with pop culture, deception, and playing til the boss level.
Please note: I received a copy of A Game of Chance from NetGalley.
