This book was good but I feel I struggled with it for some reason. Chance is a genius and because of it his life is really sort of in limbo. Being smart isnt easy and being a nerd too well every woman wants him and nerds want to he him. When his company shows advances not possible he will have to investigate what's happening. He has it all planned out.... but best laid plans and all.

Meg is a nerd, but one with a PhD. Shes close to solving her lifes work but realizes xtech stole it. When a PI comes calling asking her questions and then for help... who is she to turn it down?

It was good and interesting and watching the story unfold was okay. Jack's awkwardness towards meg was sweet and meg was a great character. I liked it just took me a while to read.

***ARC was provided to me for a fair and honest review***

Overall rating: 4/5 It was a romance novel framed by an amateur detective type story with a CEO.

Heroine (Meg Marlowe PhD): 5/5 Meg has blue hair, a love of sci-fi and all things nerdy (except Star Wars) and while actively trying to solve one of the many unsolved Golden Problems when her work for it is stolen. She wants to get that work back.

Hero (Jack “Chance” Richards): 4/5 Chance was a scrawny geek with unparalleled genius until he gave up his spot as CEO in all but name and went out to find himself across the world all the while building muscle.

Plot: 3/5 Meg and Chance strike out to find who is stealing data from small time developers and giving that information to X Tech, a major technology company.

Personal Review: I liked Meg, but as smart as she is she never figures out who Chance is. It’s essentially told to her. With as many slip ups in character that Chance does she should have at least assumed Chance worked with computers to some extent. But ignoring that, she’s a good character and her story is cute.

What Chance lacks in confidence, Meg makes up for in spades. It was odd (and a clear choice) to have their personalities like that but given their backgrounds one would think that Chance would have gained the confidence needed to navigate the world of the opposite sex while Meg fresh off of having her research stolen should be a little less confident in her abilities, no?

I enjoyed A Game of Chance by Emma Shortt. This is my first book of hers and won’t be the last. I liked Meg and Chance and enjoyed reading their story.

A Game of Chance was such a fun read! The novel follows the story of Meg and Jack Richards/Chance as they try and discover who from the X-Tech company stole Meg’s groundbreaking research.

Ever since his popularity and status as a genius took off, Jack has taken great pains to distance himself from that image. The Jack that Meg meets in Jack Chance, a buffer, bearded, and more emotionally intelligent version of Jack Richards. It is with this name that Chance meets Megan.

The main drive of the story comes from Jack’s introduction to Meg as Chance. That is, instead of revealing that he is in fact Jack Richards, the nerdy genius she is looking for, he introduces himself as Jack Chance, Private Investigator.

I really enjoyed Jack as a character, he was a strange blend of charming and shy. Charming in how he romanced and treated Meg and shy in how he would often think back to his research into romantic desire and interactions. Normally I wouldn’t usually enjoy a romance based so much on deception but the chapters written in Jacks POV, really endeared him to me.

In addition to having two ‘nerdy’ characters A Game of Chance features so many popular culture references. You can’t finish a chapter without stumbling upon a reference to a film, book, or game – I loved it! Seeing two characters share a love of Sci-fi and seeing their internal monologues about their feelings towards the others fandoms was so fun. The fretting by Jack about his light-sabre collection after Meg said she didn’t enjoy the Star Wars series made me smile.

While the math part of the story was way over my head, the part it played in the story was very well done. At no stage did I feel like I was missing out on anything through my lack of knowledge about the more technical sides of the story.

A Game of Chance was an incredibly fun romance which had me smiling throughout the novel. I found that I genuinely liked the characters and was emotionally invested in seeing their story play out. I would really recommend A Game of Chance for anyone looking for a romance story filled with pop culture, deception, and playing til the boss level.

This was 2 1\2 stars for me. I am not sure what exactly it was about this read that I just didn't like? It has a good story line, but somehow I was unable to connect with these characters. Jack is not a bad guy and he is crazy smart! Meg is the same as Jack, but just a girl version! I knew where everything was headed. It seemed no surprise to me how this ended up and who ended up being the culprit. It kind of lagged for me and I found myself skipping paragraphs. I needed to feel the connection not just read it. I really don't know what could have been done different. It just seemed a little bit long winded.

I received this ARC from the publisher via Net Galley at my request for an honest review. All the opinions written are my own. Thank you Net Galley!

If you can accept the premise that there is a super-genius, hot billionaire computer programmer who has solved every unsolvable math problem out there, but now wants to hide away those solutions until the world is ready for them, you will enjoy this book. Meg is almost as smart as Jack, whose company she invades late at night because she realizes that they stole the program she had been working on for years. She meets Jack, but doesn’t realize that he’s the owner of the company because he’s gone and become a totally hunky dreamboat instead of the skinny nerdy-looking guy he used to be.

They’re immediately attracted to each other, but he hides his real identity while asking her help in tracking down who is stealing people’s programs and giving them to his own company. You know where this is going. They’re two nerds who are also hot-looking and deeply attracted to each other. Can their attraction override his lies? Well, it’s a romance novel so you know it can. I enjoyed that both characters were a bit different from your standard couple in a billionaire romance.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

I had a rough time with this one, the book didn't work for me in several ways. The plot was a good solid plot, the characters didn't work for me. The lead female Meg and her friend acted more like teenagers than the adults they were supposed to be. I had to remind myself they were indeed adults and same goes for Chance/Jack. He at times sounded dumbed down. In fact all three were dumbed down. That doesn't work well for me. The plot had a couple of holes, but for the combined intelligence between these two IT characters, the dialogue didn't fit. I think it was a great plot that just got lost in translation.

Jack Chance, CEO of a billion dollar tech company, is on a mission to find out how his company seems to have stolen work on its main frame. Meg Marlowe is a computer genius who's work has been high jacked. This couple team up to find answers and along the way a bit of romance. Chance sometimes just points out the obvious, “and you’re wearing the tightest jeans I’ve ever seen.” blue is jist always surprising her man, even if she doesn't mean to, "...***k hardened. Was she planning to go out dressed like that? “Blue…” I liked this book, I liked how Blue and Chance balanced each other out.

This was my first time reading an Emma Shortt book, and I really enjoyed it. The computer-geek nerd character type is one of my absolute favorites, and Ms. Shortt does an excellent job of developing both Meg and Chance into funny, quirky nerds that we can't help but love. And Meg is a strong, independent, sexy and strange nerd, which was a pleasant twist on the typical female nerd type. I also found the dramatic irony of knowing Chance's identity while Meg didn't a lot of fun; I was anxiously awaiting the big reveal throughout, and it did not disappoint. I didn't see the twist on the thief's identity coming either, so that too was well done. I must admit that the overuse of exclamation points drove me nuts, but aside from that, I gobbled up this fun story. I hope Gabe gets a story next; I would love to read it.

A sincere thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for providing an ARC for review.

I thought this story was really cute. Who doesn't want the hot bumbling nerd guy and Meg's confidence has me wanting to dye my hair pink again. I will be on the look out for more from this author.

Loved this book!
Fast paced and entertaining. I hadn't read the first book in this series and it didn't matter but now I really want to go back and read it, just because I enjoyed this one so much.

This is book 2 in a series. The first book is about the heroes friends Kate and Will, but I had not read the other story. This story stands alone. It is very dramatic and thriller type of romance. The heroine is Meg and she is a computer hacker/programmer. Months before she entered a contest with this tech company and has discovered she didnt win but the company stole her work. Which is why she breaks into the company to confront the owner when she finds a hacker and runs away.

The next day said hacker finds her and gives her a song and dance that he is a PI investigating the thefts with the company and thats how they start working together. What she doesn't know is that he actually is the companies owner and so I did not like this aspect where he lies to her. Not a way to inspire me to trust him.

This was a very well written and enjoyable story. It is a nailbiter and is more about the thriller aspect of who is stealing other people's work but it also features a romance. If you like a little mystery and dramatic story then you will love it. I tend to go more for flirty and fun stories.

This is a fun romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. Meg is a computer wiz whose work was stolen by a big tech firm, which has her breaking in to try to talk with its CEO one night. While there, she encounters Chance, who is also snooping where he doesn't belong.

When Chance tracks Meg down the next day, they begin an uneasy partnership filled with lies and half truths. However, despite that, there is an incredible pull between them. The hidden identity was well done and entertaining, and the investigation had a twist I never saw coming.

If you are a fan of the genre, you will love this book. While this is the first book I've read by this author, it won't be the last as I'm looking forward to reading more of her work. Put this one at the top of your TBR list as it is a must read.

This is Jack\chance and meg book, they are both brilliant genius computer programmers, Meg goes after Jack cuz she thinks he stole her programs she gets Chance instead! It'll make more sense if you read the book lol it was an ok read not really my type of book, it was mild steam funny here and there a good story line but just eh for me I would suggest reading of you like PlayStation or Xbox type stuff it fell along the lines of that! Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!

I did not expect the twist in this book. Just wow! Chance is a genius but Jack is scary genius. I can see why he needs the two personas. It would be exhausting being Jack 24/7. Meg does a pretty good job of keeping him on his toes. I can't wait to read Shortt's future books.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. First time reading this author. I truly enjoyed this book. Is it a formula type book? Probably-do I care? No. I enjoyed the characters, the hint of mystery, the knowing that she is just about to figure it out. Then reading as all help breaks out. Do I understand the math? No, so I need to? No. Is the book plausible? I have no idea, I am not a techie. I read it for the emotion, caring, and the vibe between the main characters. I think this may be part of a series but I am not sure. It seemed to make sense that Kate/Will would have had a story. I would recommend this to all romance readers. I doubt everyone will like it as I did, but it was for me a refreshing fun read. I rate it a 5!!
