I love Neil Gaiman, and Death is one of my favorite characters. I think this collection is great addition to any comic collection or those looking to find out more about The Sandman series or just more about Death.

This is a great compilation of what vertigo has done for the comic world in the past 25 years. A guaranteed need for any fan that wants an absolutely gorgeous coffee table book with insight into the artists we have grown to love.

As someone who loved the overall aesthetic of the Vertigo imprint, this is a good way to have a reference for all their titles without actually having to go buy everything.

This book is a collection of comments by authors, artists, and editors who sometimes worked on Vertigo titles but also other creators in the industry. It has great reprints of covers, unique art, and interior pages. Arranged in chronological order, the treatment is even across time despite some of the “best year” being in the early time. Great inside industry stories, but not enough history independent of the quotes.

It's difficult to quantify the influence that Vertigo Comics had on the comics industry, but from the very beginnings in the still-DC-pre-Vertigo-imprint days, these comics were already moving mainstream comics into all sorts of new and weird directions.

Sandman, Doom Patrol, Hellblazer, Swamp Thing. These are some of the titles that began a revolution in comics that is still being felt today.

This book is pretty darn good. It contains a lot of great illustrations and details from the dozens and dozens of comics Vertigo has published over the years and is a great update to the Vertigo Encyclopedia from about a decade ago.

I would say that I thought there would be more input from Neil Gaiman as one of the integral creators behind the establishment of the Vertigo imprint, but there's so much other content that I missed his input only slightly.

I think this book is good for both longtime Vertigo fans and those who are just acquainting themselves with the imprint. Definitely pick it up to round out your comics reference collection!
