I enjoyed an earlier novel by Anna Pitoniak so I was delighted to read this book. I was quite disappointed in this novel. I found the characters quite predictable and stereotypical. The book revolves around the wealthy Stella and the poor, mousey Violet.

What seems at first to be a friendship between the women actually is a deeply conflicted relationship, filled with jealousy and rivalry. Stella, with her wealth seems extremely generous, yet that is filled with manipulation. Violet, rather that gratitude develops a deep hatred for Stella and her family.

The women ultimately become rivals and the mousey Violet becomes, in fact, a strong aggressor who stops at nothing to eliminate her rival and plow forward with her career.

I honestly found the stereotypes disappointing and unrealistic. The author provides closure, but it was too unbelievable for me to feel satisfied.
