A welcome return to the world of the Comfort Food Cafe. It's great to meet favourite charactes again, as well as being introduced to new ones. The setting is warmly conveyed, and Johnson really makes us care about the characters and their fates.

Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!

This is the fifth book in the Comfort Food Cafè series and there’s only one more book left to read.
This book is an easy to read, warm and fuzzy, feel good book, that although it’s set at Christmas, is perfect to read all year round!!
This book concentrates on Katie and her three year old son, Saul and her blossoming friendship with the wonderful Van!! Katie is trying to juggle work, college and family life, all while dealing with her arguing parents who have decided to separate.
All the old characters make a very welcome appearance - a few with surprises of their own!!
Another wonderful story from the amazing residents of Budbury!!!

I didn't have an opportunity to read the first 4 books in this series, but surprisingly it was not necessary. This is such a cute book and I can't wait to read the others.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This is my first read from the Comfort Food Cafe books and it was the perfect Christmas read that was easy to read and I didn't need tho think hard about it.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a perfect festive romance which I read in one sitting. Centred around the Comfort Food Cafe and the community of Budbury, this book has several storylines running side by side. It's a cosy, feel-good book but it doesn't give the characters an easy ride throughout; there's some angst along the way.

This would work well as a standalone, there are appearances by characters from previous Comfort Food Cafe books but it is easy to follow without knowing their backstory.

I was sent this book for an honest review. Unfortunately I didn’t get to read it as I had a baby and didn’t have time. :(
Then I found it on Amazon Kindle once it had been published. Boy am I glad I did.

A lovely read with likeable characters.
I love losing myself in books and this story definitely did that.

Debbie is a fantastic author, I have read it a bit backwards, as I haven’t read any other books in the series, but I am pleased in a way because now I get to experience all of the other books in the series and I cannot wait!

A humorous book with lots of personality and leaves you with a glowing feeling.

I will be recommending this book via goodreads and Amazon.

Thank you so much.

Took me a bit of time to get used to the first person narrative and oddly it was also a bit longer before I felt the character of Katie. I suspect it's because we started off with her voice describing her past and then quickly jumped to the present. I found the leap a bit brusque. However I loved Katie so much that this was quickly forgotten as I embraced her loving nature as well as her vacillation.

It's no wonder at all that she has a hard time letting people in and she's trying to protect her little boy from the chaos she grew up in. She's in full mama bear mode which only served to show that you can make your life what you wish, despite how you were raised. Saul is adorably three and his enthusiasm would many anyone's heart open up. The lovely lovely people in the village and cafe are also warmers of the soul and made my spirit happy. There's also the very appealing Van who sends Katie into confusion- he was ideal and perfectly appropriate also.

There isn't really a character out of place in this novel- except Katie's parents. Much as I wanted to accept them the way they were I just couldn't make myself see their side. Especially on Christmas Eve. That entire scenario made me really angry. I admired that Katie was a bigger person than I am.

Overall this novel will spark your hope in humanity and the triumph of the human spirit.

Thank you to Harper Impulse for our review copy. All opinions are our own.

I love reading the Comfort food Cafe books. The never disappoint and I love reading about all of the different characters. You can read these individually but it's better reading them in order. I'm glad Katie didn't run and she stayed. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next instalment of the Comfort food cafe. Wonder who it will be about next...? Thank you for letting me read and review this book, look forward to the next one.

Another great read from Debbie Johnson and really enjoyed the Christmas setting. Wonderful, believable characters, especially Kate. She is such a well developed character.

The Comfort Food Cafe has fast become one of my favorite series out there, and quite frankly Budbury Village is a village I would like to move to right now! I would fit in perfectly as the crazy cat lady!

But let us get on with the story. Kate Seddon moved to Budbury Village to get away from all the toxicity in her and her young sons' life, and she finds that peace and acceptance at the Comfort Food Cafe and all the other people in the village.

As we flash back in time, we live through the hell that poor Kate lived through as a child with parents who turn homelife into a battleground and resorted to emotional blackmail and abuse to keep control of the home. it was bonds that tired her in place, and even when Kate, became an adult and into her own bad relationship, she knew that's not what she wanted for her son! and just as things are going well, the bad penny strikes again.

Even though this is a Christmas book, I'm reading it in the middle of a February snowstorm and I'm loving it! and I'm sure I will read it in the middle of the summer too! it is such a perfect book. The author's talent shines from the first page of this book and that is just how you get sucked into this magical place! The characters are outstanding, and I will say that I totally prefer Kates Dad to her Mum (boy what a nasty piece of work).

I can guarantee you this much, when you read A Gift from the Comfort Cafe you will laugh, you will cry, you will get angry, but you will love this book!

Kate lives with her young son Saul in Budbury and feels that she has finally found somewhere that she can call home, somewhere that she doesn't want to run away from, and she wants to make a safe happy home for Saul unlike her own childhood with constantly warring parents! This year she feels that she should try to interact more with locals as they have all been so kind and welcoming to her but what about Van, he is so good with Saul but she is scared to get too close and worried that Saul might become too attached

A lovely book, you really feel for for Kate with the trauma she has been through with her parents but you are really rooting for her to take a chance with Van as they are so perfect for each other. Lovely to be back with all of the old friends from the cafe as well.

Great book with a great storyline. Not what I was expecting at all so was a nice surprise. Easy to read and good characters in there too.

I must read all of Debbie's books! This one is a cracker!
We meet a mum who has a troubled past and Christmas is a time of you she would much rather forget about but she has friends in the village who help her to find out things about herself and to grow as a person and also to celebrate Christmas. A emotional, touch and uplifting read.
Debbie has a way with words that she is able to create a world that the read feels completely apart of. A must read.

It took me a bit longer to actually read this book as I realized that it was a part of a series and I am one of those completely OCD people who must read a series in order especially if I start a book and realize that I am going to love the author's writing. I stopped reading this book and went back to the first in the series and started there and while you absolutely do not need to read the entire series to enjoy the book, you are seriously missing out if you skip this series. The author is amazing. She tackles very real and seriously emotional issues that effect people every day in a manner that is infused with wit and humor to keep the stories addictingly enjoyable. I can honestly say that I will read every book that this author writes in this series and will now go find others that she has written and this series is not even in my preferred reading genre. This book in particular deals with the very real issue of dysfunctional and borderline to full on abusive relationships. It will make you sad, angry, happy, relieved and so many more emotions that you absolutely must read this book to feel yourself. However, I do strongly recommend that you do yourself the reading pleasure of reading the entire series.

I received a digital ARC of #AgiftFromTheComfortFoodCafÉ from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third book in the comfort food cafe series that I have read and I have loved each and every one. I was thrilled to have been accepted for this book as I had loved the previous two so much. This one didn't disappoint. It had been months since I had last read part of this series but I immediately fell back in love with the place and the characters that Debbie Johnson creates.

I felt sorry for Katie and all that she has experienced in life. I was really hoping she would settle in Budbury and allow herself to be part of the community. I won't spoil it for you by telling you what happens - you'll have to read it for yourself.

This is part of a series but enough detail is given that you would be able to read it if you've not previously read the rest of the series. However I do recommend reading the whole series as you will just fall in love with the place and characters. It put a smile on my face and I had a warm feeling inside. It's like putting on a comfy pair of slippers! I look forward to reading more in this series please Debbie Johnson!
