This one had a unique premise and an oddball charm, but the whimsical style didn’t quite work for me. I had trouble settling into the rhythm of the story and eventually lost interest. Could be great for readers who enjoy surreal, Southern gothic tales with a touch of magical realism.
Appreciate the ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, even though I didn’t finish.

Delightful. Just delightful. I loved this world, the strange things that the residents of Auraria treat as commonplace, and the wonderful characters. I never read Big Fish, but I did see the film, and this book had that same kind of feel.

And the ending was extremely satisfying. This just might be my favorite read yet this year.

Twelve years later: I still think about this book, the characters, the place, and the feelings it evoked. It might be time for a re-read.
