I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

After leaving his Kansas hometown for New York City, Kris is shocked to find his plans for a job and apartment have fallen through. Refusing to return to his stifling hometown, he decides to stay at a hostel and try his hand at busking. Fortunately, he then meets a frontman in need of a new guitarist. Rayne Bakshi is the lead vocalist for the glam-rock band, The Chokecherries, and seems to think Kris will be the perfect addition to their upcoming tour. Kris soon finds himself amongst a diverse group of musicians and artists who help him flourish and gain the confidence to be the man he always wanted to be.

I'm always pretty wary of "rock star romances". Way too often they're the same concept rehashed over and over again, and, nine times out of ten, bore me to death. That being said, the synopsis for A Summer Soundtrack for Falling in Love was just too crazy to resist, and I am oh-so happy to have requested an ARC. A Summer Soundtrack was far from cliche. This novel was full of heart, with wonderful, three dimensional characters of all different races, sexual identities, and sexualities. Powell managed to capture the perfect balance of light-heartedness and seriousness, and kept me interested throughout the whole book. I'm not even a little ashamed to say I read this book in one sitting.

The romance between Kris and Rayne was so well-developed, and the pacing was perfect. I loved the plethora of secondary characters, and especially loved the friendship between Angel and Kris. Additionally, I adored how supportive Kris and Cassie's parents were, and how willing they were to learn more about sexual identities in order the understand their children's lives better.

Overall, if you can't tell from my gushing, I really loved this novel, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, sweet read. I truly hope to read more from Arden Powell in the near future!
