If Buffy and Supernatural ever merge, I think Demons Lie would be their rebellious teenage love child.

No one is more surprised than I am at how much I enjoyed this book. I was skeptical at the beginning because, let’s face it, Supernatural Young Adult books are a dime a dozen and making one stand out is a difficult task. I think Sherry D. Ficklin managed this by creating characters that are not only relatable but also incredibly likeable. With a quick witted and sarcastic demon hunter witch, a loyal-to-the-end best friend and a super adorable half demon how can you really go wrong?

I found that the book started out very rushed and was initially concerned that the whole thing would be riding this incredibly high speed wave but the more into the story we get, the more the pace eases up until we get this perfect flow for the remainder of the book.

Something that really stood out to me is that the author seemed to focus a lot more on character building and relationships than the actual killing of demons, which I think is pretty smart for the first in a series. I mean, there was still some action and a lot of witchy/demon things going on, but building the friendships of these main characters would be an integral part to the series and I feel like not enough authors put enough effort into building that up right off the hop so big round of applause for that!

I honestly absolutely loved this book. Witches, demons, revenge, high school….what more could you really ask for? Demons Lie was the perfect palette cleanser for me and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something that’s comfortably familiar but still incredibly different. It is such a quick read and I will be looking forward to the next installment in the series.

I was provided a copy of this book by NetGalley and the publisher to read and provide my honest opinion.

I actually really enjoyed this book, at first I thought it was going to be a predictable, girl meets boy, boy is a demon has to kill said boy, so was pleasantly surprised to find that wasn’t the case, and I look forward to seeing how their story grows.

I have read a few books by Sherry Ficklin and loved them all, the most recent being The Canary Club. When I saw Demons Lie on Netgalley I knew I wanted a copy and didn’t hesitate to request it once I saw the author. Although it is a different genre than the previous novels I have read by Sherry Ficklin, it is still an incredible read and her story telling skills are showcased expertly once again.

The novel takes off pretty quickly and maintains a good, steady pace the whole way through. Demons Lie is an urban fantasy with a compelling plot, filled with interesting characters who fight demons. This book pulled me right out of my reading slump as I happily immersed myself into another of Sherry Ficklin’s stories.

I found the characters to be really interesting and I would love to follow them through the series. Aria is bad-ass witch who hunts demons and I immediately liked here. When she met Maddie I was afraid that Maddie might have a vanilla preppy girl persona, but she wasn’t like that and I actually loved her personality. All of the characters were witty and fun to follow.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well done the romance was. I am typically not a huge fan of romances in novels like this, but it was one of my favorite aspects of this read. The relationship between Ben and Aria was so perfectly written for the YA genre. It was a ridiculously adorable and sweet, yet it didn’t feel over dramatic or stupidly sappy. Their flirting and banter was so cute that it melted my heart a bit. Sherry Ficklin balanced this book well, as the romance didn’t subtract from the plot, but rather it added to it.

The other thing I loved about this novel was the world building and the logistics of magic. In this urban fantasy world magic required balance. I find it so much cooler that way rather than in some other novels where it appears that magic has no restraints or limits. Some of the spells were really cool as well, but I don’t want to give away some cool parts of the story.

I will always suggest that you check out Sherry Ficklin’s books. She can bring any setting or story to life and fill them with vivid characters and love stories that are actually about love, not lust. I was pleased to see her venture into the paranormal romance genre as I love her young adult books.

I’d like to start off by saying that I really did thoroughly enjoy this book. However there are a few things that I didn’t enjoy.

The main thing is all the cliché characters and the obvious plot. The girl who hasn’t let anyone in sense her parents died. And the boy who hasn’t let anyone in sense his girlfriend died. And the way she falls for him despite the fact that she knows he is a demon.I have read this book too many times to count. Nothing new or.interesting.

On the other hand, there are parts of this book that were amazing. I loved all the witty remarks that passed between Ben and Aria,I do wish there were more of them though. I also loved Maddie, she was my favourite character by far. A truly good friend. She was the supporting character that this book needed.

Overall your average YA book with a basic plot and simple ending. A nice enough read that just needs something to shake it up a bit.

This was an interesting read and a likable protagonist. Those who like Supernatural or Buffy the Vampire slayer will probably like this book. The protagonist felt pretty Buffy like, with her constant quipping and quick assembly of scoobie like friends. The action is fairly well paced, and I liked the LGBT representation and how naturally it fit into the story. The romance is not too overwhelming and felt a little generic. Aside from a ton of characters also finding the protagonist attractive, and all but lining up to date her, I have no real issue with the story. I would definitely continue this series and look forward to the next one.

Interesting take on old tropes (girl monster hunter, Buffy-ish adventures, the misery of normal high school) saved by creative twists regarding sexuality and badass female friendships. The end goal may also be what draws readers in -- the possible end of all things magic -- as they explore with the characters about what it means to have a destiny. Further installments shall cement a steady following if pervasive typos and continuity errors are fixed, but nevertheless enjoy the adventures of a demon-hunting witch with vengeance on her mind.

I enjoyed this book. It's an interesting story line, a little different that the standard. It felt like there should be more demon fighting but I liked the characters. I'd be interested in seeing what happens on their trip to New York. #DemonsLie #NetGalley

Starting with personal item I am not a huge fan of YA novel I find them cheese, overly predictable, and down right whine at times. Throw in the typical witch and demon hunting and I was ready to close the book and call it your typical YA novel. There is romance do not get me wrong but the author knew what she was doing and I was impressed.

Sherry D. Ficklin was able to bring High school life into a book with the emotions we all remember mix in witchs, demons and everything else and your find a really good YA novel that is emotional at times, heart breaking as well as down right action packed. This is one adventures readers of YA novels are not going to want to miss.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of Sherry D. Ficklin Demons Lie.

Stop whatever you do and pick up this book because this is a series you are going to want to follow.
