'Gillbert the Little Merman #1' with story and art by Art Baltazar is a graphic novel for young readers about a group of fun creatures living under the sea.

One day, Gillbert was swimming along under the sea when he finds a note in a bottle. before he can look at the note, he is drawn in to another part of the ocean by a mermaid. Meanwhile, there is a possible invasion from outer space as sentient meteorites start heating the ocean. What will Gillbert do?

There is a lot of plot laid out here, and fortunately, it's an ongoing series. The art is classic Baltazar, meaning it's lots of fun. The story will hopefully tighten up over time.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Papercutz and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

I love the simple, rounded aesthetic of Baltazar's illustrations. He has a great visual sensibility, a solid approach to construction. This is a fun book just t flip through without even reading. It's a great choice for a prereader. Bright, fun, and playful. THe plot is pretty simple and jumps around without much concern for logic. Simple entertainment for young readers.

Gillbert: The Little Merman by Art Baltazar is the first issue in a children's graphic novel series. A message in a bottle? A fiery asteroid from space? A sea of magical mystical mermaids? This is the world of Gillbert. In the deepest part of the ocean, unexplored by man and too deep for humans to swim, lives a little sea creature named Gillbert. He is the son of King Nauticus, king of all the oceans. One day, Gillbert will be king. But in the meantime, his playful curiosity takes him away from the kingdom on a journey of discovery. Gillbert meets an amphibious mermaid and follows her into unknown parts of the ocean. Where he meets many unknown and undiscovered species of underwater creatures. He didn’t know these things existed so close to home. Gillbert’s world just got a whole lot bigger!

Gillbert: The Little Merman is an adventure that takes a little merman and has him exploring new places and making new friends, while the adults also get to learn something and make a new acquaintance of their own. I like that new and strange is shown to be interesting and important to learn about rather than being something worthy of fear or judgement. Learning new languages and skills is shown to be work, but well worth the effort. The art is bright and colorful, added extra emotion and humor to the story that might otherwise get missed. I liked the combination of text and art, and think it will capture and hold the interest of readers. It was a cute, entertaining story.

Gillbert: The Little Merman is another great, kid friendly graphic novel from the team at Papercutz. The style and quality is consistent, and a makes for a fun and engaging read for young and emerging readers while not boring older or more proficient readers that might pick it up.

Fun story about a little sea creature having numerous adventures in the ocean. Who would have thought you could have outers pace and deep sea ocean creatures meet in one story? It will have broad appeal and could get little ones caught up in the Aquaman buzz this December. Great for all ages.

I had a great time reading Gillbert the Little Merman. It starts with an introduction to this world, and some of the characters inside it. Gillbert meets someone new and they take him on an impressive journey. He gets to see all kinds of breath taking things and explore many new places. Along the way a threat comes to Nauticus, but his new friends find a way to help them all out. I can see many readers really having a blast reading this story.

Hippyish, weird nonsense. But brightly drawn with a fresh design for the young – only, if you've taught them the basics of narrative they will realise this is all over the shop.

This is an interesting tale about Gilbert who is merboy. He receives a strange letter and makes some new friends. It is refreshing reading a comic where there is a happy family life. Gilbert meets mermaid, who is a different type of mer person then he is and there are aliens. It’s a fun little adventure tale. The artwork is a nice cartoon style that meshes perfectly with the story.

Gilbert is a curious, merman prince living in the undersea kingdom of Atlanticus. In this graphic novel, we are introduced to Gilbert, his family, and friends. Sure to be a hit with the elementary school crowd! The fast-pace of this introduction feels a bit rushed, but it is still a delightful and fun story. The colorful, playful artwork is outstanding. Looking forward to the next novel!

I loved the illustrations of this book. I also really liked the basic plot of the story. At first the events in the story were a little simplistic, but it did pick up toward the main conflict. Overall, it was a cute little story.

The art was good, nice and colorful. The story was random and a bit weird. I thought it had a weird flow. I didn't really enjoy it. It was short and felt rushed.

Gillbert is the story of a baby sea creature that discovers something from the human world, a message in a bottle, and wants to know what it says. Before he has a chance to, things start happening. He meets a mermaid who shows him the wonders of the ocean deep below anywhere he has ever traveled before, and introduces him to new friends.

While Gillbert is having new adventures, his parents are having new experiences of their own, and try to figure out how to deal with the changes happening to their world.

The story was cute and the drawings were cute, but one question remains, what was written on the letter?

I give two stars because I thought that the art was cute and Gilbert was adorable. However, the story itself was chaotic. I wouldn't continue the series. #Gilbert1 #netgalley

Gilbert is a merman. He is also the prince of Atlanticus. One day Gilbert finds a bottle with a message in it. He can't read so he takes it to his parents the King and Queen. While waiting for his Mother to translate the message for him he sees a strange looking girl and follows her. In the meantime Mom shows up and asks his friend the turtle Sherbert to follow Gilbert. Gilbert goes through a stream of bubbles with the girl who is Anne and comes upon a submarine with music. Meanwhile an asteroid falls into the ocean and cracks open with a baby inside in Atlanticus. The story goes on from there but I feel the story is saying just because you are different. you are actually the same. I really liked the illustrations in this comic book form book. I think children will fall in love with the characters and the storyline will hold their interest. I really hope to see more adventures of Gilbert in the future. I recommend this book for 6+.
