This was a great romance read. Light and fluffy yet with some serious undercurrents and some beautiful genuine moments.
With highs and lows, this was a beautifully entertaining read. I became quickly attached to the characters especially Carlos who I have encountered before in Jasmine Guillory's first book; The Wedding Date.

A wonderful beach read!

I thought that this was a good story that flowed very well.

The story was entertaining and very well written.

I thought that it had a good mix of characters that gelled together and I loved their interaction.

Five stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!!

I really enjoyed this book. Nik is dating an actor, she is a bit bored with him but he proposes to her live on tv at a baseball game. She gets rescued by the humiliation by Carlos and his sister who are also at the game.

Nik and Carlos being a no strings attached affair, but it ends in hurt like it always does, but can they put aside their pride and admit what is really going on?

A really good read.

I was given this book to read and review via Netgalley.

When Nikole goes to a baseball game with her boyfriend of five months she doesn't expect him to propose using the scoreboard at the match. When she says No in front of all the audience at the televised game she is pilloried by him, his friends and all of the fans. She is saved from the camera crew by a doctor and his sister and as the story unfolds they get to spend more time with each other although neither of them want a serious relationship.
A fun and heartwarming story.

Any book that starts with a proposal on a jumbotron at a baseball game, that is turned down that leads to the meeting of a news gorgeous guy, is a good book for me.

Nik is not a fan of "I love yous" or commitment, but she is a very loyal friend, feisty heroine and all around fabulous main character.

Alongside her two best friends there is plenty of fun, cupcakes and with the new man good food and drama too.

I loved the chemistry between Nik and Carlos and generally enjoyed the whole book a lot.

It may be the first book I've read from the author but I'm positive it won't be the last.

Thank you to Netgalley and Headline Eternal for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily,.

This is going to be a story you either like or dislike.
When feisty Nik receives a very public proposal, shes shocked to say the least helped out by the sexy Carlos what follows is a rollercoaster of family and emotion as they embark on a rebound that will impact their laugh.
Whilst some romance fans will find this a bit slow, and sometimes boring other romance fans will love the humor that comes from a story hitting the right note of realism.
I found myself a bit in between, at times i enjoyed the humor and slow to build whilst other times found myself frustrated with the slow build.

Nikole, or Nik to her friends, is at a Dodgers game with her boyfriend of 5 months for his birthday when he proposes to her out of the blue. On the Jumbotron. He's never said I love you before, never broached this subject before and he's also misspelled her name on the proposal. After turning him down in front of thousands of people, handsome doctor Carlos and his sister Angela swoop in to save further humiliation and usher her out of the stadium. After that, Carlos and Nik start to hang out together and agree to keep it casual but can they keep it that way or will feelings start to creep in?

The book was a lovely romantic read, just like the previous Guillory novel The Wedding Date. One of the best things about the book is the diversity, the cast of characters range from a black main character, her latino love interest, a black lesbian friend with a bi love interest and a plus sized Korean best friend. Having been to LA before, the book does fit the setting very well and just like The Wedding Date, there's lots of food involved! I didn't like it as much as The Wedding Date, I felt it fell a bit flat compared to it and the ending a bit rushed but I still enjoyed it and thought it was engaging and fun and I did like that the book focused on other things than just the romance like grief, feeling insecure after a past relationship and self defence, it added depth to the story and made it seem more real.

I’d seen other bloggers review and although I hadn’t seen any 5-star reviews I had seen positive ones. Sure, people’s small criticisms did raise a few red flags for me, but just to go in wary. Sadly, I think my opinions may have been coloured by those other bloggers… or I am just less willing to put up with books I’m not behind 100%. Whatever happened I ended up not clicking with this book.

Carlos, we met in The Wedding Date and I was interested to see his story and so when we’re introduced to Nik I was excited. Nik seemed like she would be sassy and fun… but I just didn’t feel a spark between the two when I was reading. The chemistry wasn’t there for me so I didn’t feel invested in the path of them getting together. I mean, this is a term normally reserved for several YA books I've read, but it felt a little insta-lovey. I in no way believed the spark that apparently existed. I know in romance characters go on about how good looking the other is and about how they've kept thinking about them but although Carlos's rescue was kind I could not see Nik pursuing more from that alone. Both of them were apparently interested but I didn’t get why when reading. And when you were in Carlos’s head and he was thinking things like ‘is that a hint’ or ‘is she giving me signals’ and all that crap just made me like him. Yeah, folks probably do have those thoughts but it was so jarring to read them!
There were characters I was interested to learn more about (I loved Nik’s friends) but that was not enough to keep me reading.

After devouring Jasmine Guillory's debut novel, The Wedding Date, in one evening, I was so excited to pick up The Proposal!

Similar to The Wedding Date, I loved the diversity of the characters and the variety of issues explored in The Proposal. However, it wasn't quite as addicting as The Wedding Date. I know this is a standalone novel (though it references The Wedding Date at multiple points), so I shouldn't be comparing the two, but it's nearly impossible to talk about one without talking about the other!

In The Proposal, a proposal goes very, very wrong when Nik's boyfriend pops the question in public at a Dodger's game. And so ensues a knight in shining armor moment when Carlos and his sister step in to save her, followed by a friendship and the inevitable intimacy between the damsel in distress and the knight who saved her. Except Nik isn't a damsel in distress - she is a strong female character that is incredibly easy to like.

I enjoyed watching Carlos and Nik's relationship grow, and completely understood the ups and downs along the way. This isn't a super surface level romance read - it dives into personal histories and you get to know the characters very well beyond their bodies. I also loved the addition of Nik's two friends - Dana and Courtney - who have fantastic personalities of their own. Jasmine Guillory did characters very well in The Wedding Date, and she's done it again in The Proposal.

Overall, this was a really enjoyable read. I just can't give it the full 5* since I enjoyed The Wedding Date that much more. But I will 100% be reading Guillory's next book the moment I can get my hands on it!

A fun and flirty novel from Jasmine Guillory, author of The Wedding Date, one of Cosmopolitan’s 33 Books to Get Excited About in 2018.

After reading The Wedding Date and not getting the hype, I was sceptical about this book, however I am so glad I requested to give this a read now. A great story with characters that just work, I feel this book is so much better than The Wedding Date, which for many I know is saying something.

Nikole and Carlos and built really well and their backgrounds and lives are built so brilliantly throughout this book with great female friendships and connections to family that I think anyone could understand and relate to. The blossoming of the relationship and the ups and downs are written so well with an ending that is so heartwarming but real.

I also really like how this book and The Wedding Date are connected, with Carlos keeping in touch with Drew and Alexa and keeping the series connected - I don’t know if Guillory plans to keep continuing with the series, but I really hope she does as she really builds brilliant characters - personally, I’d like to find out how Jessie and Justin met or how one of Nikole’s friends, especially Courtney gets a spell of romance.

A great read that will get you hooked from the beginning.

2.5 stars

THE PROPOSAL has a pretty strong start with a quippy tale to tell but unfortunately from there, I struggled to stay engaged with the main characters and the storyline. It is defintely a light, shortish read.

Nik is on the receiving end of an unwanted and unexpected proposal on a jumbatron, it’s embarassing and she just needs out of the stadium. Two people come to her rescue and one of her saviours, Carlos keeps in contact with Nik from there. These two felt awkward to me, not geeky-awkward, but not-connecting awkward and I struggled from there on in. When the chemistry between the MCs was written, I could not see the connection, I hated the getting-it-on scenes, they made me squirm. I think in general, the writing style wasn’t my bag.

I did like the female friendships in this book, I thought they were realistic, positive and empowering.

I’m sorry I don’t have better opinions to affirm about THE PROPOSAL, maybe it just wasn’t for me. As I haven’t read this author before, I cannot compare to her previous work, although I have heard good things.

I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

Bit slow to start off with, not sure where the story was going to be honest. I enjoyed the girl friends relationship and the humour surrounding them. Story picked up and I'm pleased I stuck with it. A nice read.

I recieved a digital arc in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this but it was super cliché... Which I mean I was totally in the mood for but still... It's typical that it's a rebound but they both fall for each other...

I really loved the beginning... The set up was pretty awesome and I respect the girl for not caving to the massive pressure on her at that moment and I appreciate the strong woman aspect but it kind of goes out the window immediately.... Which sucked...

Carlos was a typical alpha dude who needs to be in charge... Honestly he was a little too bossy and annoying and kinda the kind of guy I'd like to punch.... Repeatedly... I didn't like him overly much...

I'd definitely check out this author again

Ok, I enjoyed the book a bit less then Wedding Date, but it was still very enjoyable read - from multiracial relationships and queer secondary characters, to important themes of emotional abuse, safety, self worth and recovery. I loved the humour in this book and consent present in main character's behaviour, I liked it tackled racism and was full of strong female characters. It is great to be able to read some modern contemporary romance with feminist themes, Jasmine Guillory is definitely rewriting the genre and I'm in for more of her books definitely!

If you read an enjoyed The Wedding Date you'll love this fun, fluffy read.
Guillory's writing is great and she has an ability to create interesting, relateable characters that you can't help but root for.
Great progression of the romance too, didn't feel really rushed which i liked.

A great read, well written and keeps you interested throughout.

Nik meets Carlos when he comes to her rescue following a public proposal gone wrong. They start to spend more time together and she thinks he would be a perfect rebound, as he's not looking for anything serious either. But the more time they spend together the more she falls for him.

First book I have read by this author and I can't wait to read more!

Guillory's writing is such a comforting place to spend time. Her characters are all so lovely and real, and her romances aren't filled with the kind of angsty misunderstandings which are often used to create tension, and drive me nuts. Instead there's just honest, genuine progression of relationships.
