April goes to Jonah Wolfe who is a Private investigator asking for help after waking up in bed with a dead person. She has no memory of who she got there or what had happened so she needs help. She and Jonah also have a history which adds to the story. She is also a worker for the mayor’s campaign so all of these things just add to the story. A very good mystery suspense that will keep you going as to what happened and is very much worth the read.

A fast read filled with chemistry between the characters. The ending wasn't as strong as the rest of the book.

Great short story by Kat Martin. A woman wakes up to police breaking in a door. She’s covered in blood in a place she doesn’t recognize and lying on the floor is one of her coworkers with a bullet hole in his chest. Her gun is laying on the floor next to her purse. She remembers absolutely nothing. How she go there. What happened. It’s all a blur.

April Vale doesn’t believe she killed anyone so she hires Jonah Wolfe to investigate what really happened that night. Little does she know she’s now become a target because she just can’t let the story the police are telling is what really happened. In the meantime, the heat between April and Jonah is building but April’s a client and you don’t mix business with pleasure.

This may be a short story but it carries plenty of twists and heat for an entire novel. Well done Kat Martin.

April Vale is being framed for the murder of a co-worker and she seeks the help of private investigator Jonah Wolfe. The story is well written and contains many exciting twists and turns. The banter between the two main characters is wonderful and the humor throughout the story makes it even more interesting. Some of the story seems rushed so it might have been better as a full length story instead of a novella, but all in all, a great introduction to a new series.

"Wait Until Dark" is a rather short prequel. It's a rather interesting mystery story where April wakes up to find herself beside a dead colleague and her attempts to figure out what really happened. Definitely worth the read.

Jonah Wolfe must help April Vale find the answers to a murder, prove her innocence , and keeps both of them alive. New series for this author that is off to excellent start.
Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own

Waking up to a dead body is not only shocking but when there is no memory of how you ended up the bed, this is truly terrifying. April's day starts out poorly as she realizes she is probably going to be charged with murder. Luckily for her, she is finds Private Investigator, Jonah Wolfe to help her reconstruct her past 48 hours. A fan of Ms. Martin's, I knew I would be in for a fun suspenseful ride. This novella kicks off a new series of "who done it".
The flow of this book was quick and concise as it is a novella. The world building gives the reader a little insight into how the Security firm fits into this world. We also learn a bit about the characters. I liked April and she's one of those proverbial nice girls who finish last. I say finish last because she's been stepped on and this latest development has all the hallmarks of petty jealousy and taking advantage of the "nice" one. Fortunately for April, Jonah is in her court and will be going to bat for her.

The dynamic between the two is just okay for me. There isn't much relationship development because it is a short time period. It does help set up for the first book in the series. This book can be read before or after the first book. Both will work. This romantic suspense is recommended for everyone.

Jonah Wolfe was an undercover policeman but now works for Maximum Security. He is intrigued by April Vale when she first walks in the door. Jonah believes April when she tells her story as some of the aspects had been careless mistakes by the killer.
April is working with the Mayor on his electoral campaign. She is found in a co-worker’s home with him beside her, dead. April doesn’t remember how she got there. She knows she didn’t do it, but needs to find out who did, and if she is the real target. When there are further attempts on her life, Jonah and April know that she is the real target and they really need to find the reason why.
This is a short story from the Maximum Security series. The story is not long, but it will have you turning the pages to find out who the killer is and the reason why. I was a little disappointed when I got the end as I wanted the story to last longer!

Kurt Layton has been forced to fire his gun, in a church, on the gunman. Fortunately for him there is only one man down and the woman is safe. He has been in the church as protection as they have been receiving threats. Kurt doesn’t want to be known as the hero of St Andrews but that is how the media are portraying him.
Erin McCallum is the woman who Kurt saved. She turns up at his place to thank him. There seems to be no reason for the attack on the church, but when there is another attempt on Erin, Kurt and Maximum Security need to find the reason why Erin is a target.
The chemistry between Kurt and Erin is evident from the beginning and they find that living together as he protects her, the sexual tension between them explodes.
This is a really good short story to start the new series. The reader will keep turning the pages until the end.

Kat Martin is pretty dependable when it comes to writing thrillers, but this one felt like I read it somewhere before. Despite the feeling of deja vu, I enjoyed the story.

April woke up in the bed, covered with blood, and (of course) did not kill her coworker. Jonah Wolfe is the PI who will help her to clear her name and find out who really did it.

I would have liked something more in-depth, but that is difficult to do with a novella. Still, I give this story 4 stars because it IS good!

A short and steamy, action-packed novella to introduce the new series and the characters that are part of the Maximum Security company.
The suspense is rather straightforward and even built so, that the reader can guess the possible culprits from the start, just finding their motives is a puzzle to be figured out.
The attraction between Jonah Wolfe and April Vale is lust at first sight. There's not much depth to it, the appeal is not complicated, the desire overpowers everything else, as they work together to catch the culprits.
Surprisingly superficial and light story from the author, yet entertaining tale that did its job to whet the appetite for the book one in the new series.

This was a really good story. I read the whole thing in just a few hours. The only complaint I have is that it was too short! I would have liked for it to be a longer book. I liked the instant attraction the main characters felt for each other, but their deep feelings came on too fast.

I adore this author and all of her previous works but I was disappointed with this novel.

Thank you for the chance to read it.

Perfectly crafted foundation to what promises to be a “hold on and ride” series. Truly relatable characters and realistic premise, with the perfect amount of suspense and action to keep you turning the pages. This is one story...and series to follow...that will not disappoint.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Wait Until Dark is the prequel novella to the new Martin series Maximum Security. April Vale is woken up by the police banging on the door. She finds herself in bed with a dead colleague and no recollection of how she got there and finds herself accused of his murder. She knows she could not have killed him and is being framed and turns to private investigator Jonah Wolfe at Maximum Security for help. This is a novella that moves ahead quickly but still manages to bring in several characters and a good story within the limitations of a novella. Will be looking forward to the series starting!

This was a quick, exciting prequel that's got me totally engaged for the forthcoming books. I love the setup of April Vale waking up, drenched in the blood of her coworker and no knowledge of what happened!

Private investigator Jonah Wolfe knows there is trouble when his warning bells go off when April Vale storms into his office at Maximum Security, all his warning signs flash red. As the campaign manager for the mayor, April’s job and life are on the line if she doesn’t figure out who’s trying to frame her. But time is running out on finding the real murderer before April becomes the next victim.

This is a wonderful Kat Martin novella. The main character, April Vale, wakes up to the police knocking down her bedroom door. April is naked, covered in blood, lying next to a murdered coworker, and does not remember how it happened. April decides to Maximum Security where she hires Jonah Wolfe to find out what actually happened. Despite the fact that the duo are searching for answers, they cannot escape that they are attracted to each other . The novella moves quickly to find the answers and Kat Martin gives us some characters that we hope to see again.
